Day One (8:02)
Day One (Telephones club dub) (7:13)
Review: The notion of Jose Padilla releasing an album on International Feel makes perfect sense, the two go together like Bogart and Bacall. Last year the Cafe Del Mar legend appeared on Mark Barrott's label with Solito and this set the wheels in motion for an album by Padilla that remains under wraps for now. A taste of what is to come arrives in the shape of Day One, a 12" that sees Padilla working with Norwegian producer Telephones (a man who has his own LP due on Running Back) and it has set opener written indeliably into it's DNA. Few other tracks this week pack as much vivid detail and colour into them as the eight minutes of "Day One" do and Telephones achieves similar levels of magic on his accompanying Club Dub.

Solito (Wolf Muller Water mix)
Solito (Wolf Muller Water dance)
Review: Under his Wolf Muller alias, Jan Schulte has proved adept at delivering atmospheric but off-kilter blends of musical styles for the Balearic-focused Themes From Great Cities imprint. He's a good choice, then, to remix Jose Padilla's surprise single on International Feel. Schulte offers up two interpretations, both of which rely far more heavily on live instrumentation - particularly bells and percussion - than Padilla's original. The "Water Mix" sounds a little like classic Dunkelziffer - no bad thing in our book - while the "Water Dance" version ups the tempo slightly, adding a live bassline that gives the track a horizontal dub disco feel.

Solito (Bubble Club In Loving Memory mix)
Review: Given the Balearic nature of International Feel's releases - not to mention the fact that label boss Mark Barrott is now a resident of Ibiza - it seems fitting that the imprint's latest missive comes from White Isle legend Jose Padilla. Those who have fond memories of Padilla's evocative downtempo recordings of the 1990s will enjoy "Solito", which winds twittering flutes and dreamy chords around sparse percussion before morphing into a deliciously deep analogue house chugger. Bubble Club's accompanying remix retains the track's innate beauty, while offering a more melancholic interpretation. It borders on the stunning, thanks largely to liberal use of sparse, cascading synth melodies and a deliciously dubbed-out groove.

Deep House
Blitz Magic (Deetron remix) (7:50)
Blitz Magic (Tambien Jil Thunder Light mix) (8:45)
Review: The legendary Jose Padilla of Ibiza institution Cafe Del Mar is back on Mark Barrott's International Feel. The track "Blitz Magic" from his last album, So Many Colours, is the latest to be given the high profile remix treatment. Deetron's version is first and transforms the Balearic beauty of the original into a soulful house epic like you'd expect from the Swiss genius. Mesmerising Rhodes keys, hypnotic bleeps and heavenly church organs all collide over a steady beat. On the flip is Munich's Tambien; they of Public Possession, who deliver the "Jill Thunder Light Mix" returning the track to the Balearic vibe but on a darker, '80s flavoured tip with angelic vocals, rich pads and syncopated rhythm and it's totally awesome!

Review: There was a sense of inevitability when Mark Barrott's International Feel label revealed plans to issue a new album from Ibizan legend Jose Padilla, the pair go together like Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. What makes So Many Colours particularly special is the fact Padilla got the chance to work with Barrott, Running Back affiliate Telephones, Australian producer Tornado Wallace and Jan 'Wolf Muller' Schulte, a list of artists that share a common approach to the idea and concept of being Balearic. As you would expect, copious amounts of fluttering beats, Spanish guitar strumming and deep throbbing arpeggiated basslines feature throughout So Many Colours and it's really a pleasure from beginning to end!

Review: What a 12"! Given their stature, International Feel could probably pull in a DJ Harvey or a Theo Parrish to remix cuts from the Jose Padilla LP (maybe they will ooh!) but they've indulged their more esoteric urges here. Chicago house originator Ben Cenac comes through with a truly rare Dream 2 Science remix, turning "Lollipop" into a brisk, star gazing production rich in the musicality that characterised his (now) cult 1990 album. Complementing this are two fine remixes from Versatile's genius I:Cube with his marauding Balearic rave remix a real pearler of a production! International Feel include Padilla's OG version too!
