Deep House

Contour Lines
Someday
It’s A Sign
Review: 2DeepSoul are the core crew behind Inner Shift music, so as you might expect they've got a keen instinct for the finest strains of pure deep house as you'd happily dig from the likes of Patrice Scott or Fred P. They open up the Windows EP with the dreamy haze of "Clarity" before "Contour Lines" brings a pulsing, techy lead into the mixture of sweeping pads and snappy beats. "Someday" is a rich, harmonious ambient excursion, and then "It's A Sign" finishes the EP off with a truly meditative trip for the smoothest deep house cruisers to lock onto.

Light Years
Slow Walker
Take U There
Whale Cry
Review: With his legacy on Moods & Grooves rekindled, Brad Peterson is well and truly back in the swing of things, and he returns one more to Inner Shift with his full-bodied deep house sound in all its emotive glory. "Light Years" is a masterclass is languid reverb echoing from poignant keys, while a dutiful deep house beat simply carries the melodic majesty into the ether. "Slow Walker" gets into a slower, dreamier reverie where the beats fall low and slow, leaving the keys to swirl about in a blissful arrangement. "Take U There" gets the energy back up again, even keeping a little tension in the mix with some pointed chord stabs, but it's back into a more somnambulant procedure on "Whale Cry" to round a classy EP off.

Expansion (7:04)
Star Traveller (6:44)
Machine Logic (7:51)
Sun Garden (5:33)
Review: It's five years since we last heard from Brad Peterson, but now the former Moods & Grooves regular is back with a new astral traveller for the deep house crew. 'Expansion' opens the Plant Life EP up in style with a sturdy groove carrying illustrious brushstrokes of percussion and keys, all bathed in a hazy glow that could sound transcendental in the morning light. 'Star Traveller' takes a more deep-rooted, mellow path for lounge-ready scenarios where it's the head that wants to be moved by the music. 'Machine Logic' lays down a tougher kind of beat, but offsets it with swooping pads and chords and then 'Sun Garden' closes the EP out in a gorgeous reverie of tumbling drums and lilting flute.

Alpha Transmissions (feat Brad P/Man-Drake edit/Rai Scott remix)

Transmission #1 (with Brad P) (6:42)
In The Space (Song For Joey) (5:29)
Transmission #2 (Man-Drake edit) (5:51)
Transmission #2 (Rai Scott remix) (7:35)
Review: The Alpha Transmissions EP is a new project from Dubbyman that has been long in the making. The always classy producer brings his trademark deep house sound to Inner Shift Music with label owners Brad P and Rai Scott getting in on the action. 'Transmission #1' is smooth, serene and dubbed out deep house with cosmic energy, while 'In The Space (Song For Joey)' is a more loose-limbed groove peppered with gentle percussion.'Transmission #2' first comes as a Man-Drake edit that is widescreen and drenched in prog rock guitar licks and as a Rai Scott remix that is more rolling and heady. A typically versatile package from Dubbyman.

Mark Hand - "Take Some Chances" (7:34)
Platform 001 - "The Last Letter" (7:13)
G-Prod - "Horizon" (7:18)
Leo Gunn - "Aheeoo" (4:57)
Review: You can always trust in the quality of house music carried by Inner Shift. As a long standing label pursuing a sincere and emotive strain of 4/4, they've carried the work of a huge number of high grade artists since 2012, and the trend continues with their second Collective Continents VA release. Opening things up, Mark Hand unfurls more of his exquisite, Rhodes-licked vibes, while Platform 001 offers up a more subliminal, stripped and bumping groove. G-Prod takes things into the distance with the pad-soaked dreamstate of 'Horizon', and Leo Gunn digs into something dusty and lounge-geared with the outstanding warm-up cut 'Aheeoo'.

Forever On
Review: Gene Hunt is a prolific producer with an un-mistakable sound of his own. And although an originator of the acid house sound from Chicago, he certainly didn't stop there. His music has naturally evolved over the years, often incorporating more mature melody and rhythm structures, but always in time with a proper underground style dance track. These tracks are a perfect fit for the direction and vision of the Inner Shift Music label as well, and for this reason we are pleased to present you with "Planted Seeds" by Gene Hunt.

Distant Voyage
Open Up Your Eyes
Review: Gene Hunt is one of the few producers from the original wave of Trax Records signees that still flies the flag for Chicago house with as much gusto as when he started. This is his second trip out on Inner Shift Music, and it finds the US house veteran on impeccable form. "Kayla Dream" is a light, airy jacker defined by amorphous synth washes that match the mellow mood of the label. "Distant Voyage" is a truly standout track though, dealing in crooked rhythmic structures and channelling the techno side of Hunt's muse. "Open Up Your Eyes" maintains the introspective mood, but this time welcomes some soulful vocal turns into the adventurous, machine-powered landscape.

Seberg
Every Single Word
Review: Inner Shift Music presents Jacksonville aka Chris Lyth who was featured on their Collective Continents EP with 'The City Sleeps'. Jacksonville has had releases on several labels including Atmospheric Existence, Thug Records, and on his own rather excellent imprint Doppler Records.

The EP kicks off with Fragment One which is sure to be a dancefloor favourite with it's driving kick and bassline, warm pads and a hypnotic acid line that crescendos throughout the track keeping you hooked from start to finish. Fragment Two is on a much deeper tip with a lovely bassline and lush melodic synths that interweave doing a delicious dance with each other throughout. Seberg is classic deep house with driving percussion and a funky bassline mixed with rich pads and melodic lines. Last but certainly not least we get Every Single Word, a more harmonic track that finishes off the EP perfectly.

Machines Of Loving Grace (5:42)
Neptune 4 (7:28)
Sebastopol Rd (6:16)
Fragment 7 (6:58)
Review: Jacksonville has skirted around deeper corners of the electronic music landscape for over 10 years, landing on labels as varied as Thug, Hizou Deep Rooted Music and Inner Shift. He returns to the latter with some of his most refined work to date, leading in with the snaking programming of broken beat immersion heater "Machines Of Loving Grace" before turning up the intensity with the spiritual uplift of hi-tech soul joint "Neptune 4". "Sebastopol Rd" takes things in a more explicitly house oriented direction, before "Fragment 7" beams back skywards for one more celestial trip around the sun.

Night Hiker (Boost 'N Time edit)
Review: For their sixth release, Inner Shift Music are proud to present their second various artists compilation. It features four different tracks from different producers, each bringing their own unique yet interconnected sound to the EP.
You may have heard of Jacksonville already, from his superb track (Tokyo) for Atmospheric Existence, as well as releases on his own imprint Doppler records. Following him is the very talented Jose Lau of Deepselect Records from California, bringing with him his signature, warm, intelligent sound, who not surprisingly had a recent release on Pulp. Next is the mysterious duo Gauss, who you probably know about from their imprint of the same name. Their rather excellent track brings a more techy edge to the EP. To finalise the deal, we get a stunning, lush, melodic track from Marco Nega, who has also been seen on labels such as Bumako, UQ and AMR.

Docking Lane (6:48)
Bulkhead (6:29)
Deceleration (6:52)
Perspex (6:36)
Review: Having recently resurfaced via his Red Ember label and a further run of essential releases on Going Good, Hardworksoftdrink and many more, Ewan Jansen is in fine fettle now as he shores up to Inner Shift with some high class house music for the heads. "Docking Lane" is as deep as they get, but that doesn't come at the cost of the beat which strides forth with purpose underneath the hum of the pads. "Bulkhead" gets a classic Latin drum machine vibe going, "Deceleration" takes things lighter and sparser, and then "Perspex" finishes the EP off with some warm, funky fare. Throughout the EP, Jansen's link to the formative years of deep house shine through - this is the sound of someone who knows what they're doing.

Red & Blue (5:11)
Red & Blue (Deep Explorer remix) (7:33)
Behind The Scene (5:39)
Mind Games (6:52)
Review: There are nimble, rolling grooves aplenty to be enjoyed on the second drop from Mahal for Inner Shift. Of course, these grooves are framed within the context of moody, meditative soundscapes where you're as likely to hear some squalling guitar as you are spooky keys - that's certainly the case on stunning opener "Red & Blue". Deep Explorer comes on board for a remix that feeds some loose and limber breaks into the mix, which match the dusty feel of the track perfectly. "Behind The Scene" weighs in with a powerful bass presence and some classic box beats, capturing some serious Detroit-inspired energy in the process. "Mind Games" completes the record with a dreamy excursion into airy pads and submerged arpeggios to get you floating skywards.

Cats & Water
Sky In The Clouds
Review: With this new four-track EP by Rai Scott the slowly emerging producer moves away from being the enigma that appeared on a split 12" with Brad Peterson that launched the Inner Shift imprint in 2012. And by the sounds on this EP, she's someone to be noticed. Preceding her forthcoming debut on Ornate, Scott provides another four-track called Reason to Smile for Inner Shift Music. It's the fifth release for the label this year and "We Love You" certainly earns its place as the record's A1; sweet and meaningful deep house. "Keep On" is a dubbed out, bassline driven tribal journey of drums and low-end rhythm completed by emotional chords that eventually takeover, while "Cats and Water" is on a funky, stripped-back and loopy '90s techno tip. And for some ambient fun that then turns house: "Sky In The Clouds" is a perfect B2. An exciting producer house communities worldwide should be talking about in the second half of this year.

Mick Welch - "Cephid Variable"
Rai Scott - "Beyond Earth's Atmosphere"
Miles Sagnia - "Tears Of Saturn"
Brad Peterson - "Ice Planets"
Review: The second release for the Inner Shift music group comes as four track various artists EP. First up is Mick Welch with his second outing, supplying some deep and Chicago rhythmic house, eloquently introducing an acid bass line later on the piece, which he then breaks down further with jacking drum patterns of the John Heckle variety. It's also Rai Scott's second outing and he opts for movie soundtrack horns, synths, and subtle tribal percussions that give "Beyon Earth's Atmosphere" that little extra push. Miles Sagnia adds some distinguished weight to the EP alongside Brad Peterson, with Sagnia flirting with trancey elements in "Tears of Saturn", while Peterson strips his mix back with raw kicks, softened by hollow tribal drums and spacey synths.
