Review: Pauline Oliveros' approach to experimental music-making has been described by many as 'egalitarian', ensuring that every aspect of the music was accessibly playable by an ensemble of artists, with the idea that the pieces remain as interactive as possible. The Well & The Gentle is testament to this approach, collecting unusual and oftentimes naive motifs and riffs for a honking, almost uncouth, yet almost undeniably brilliant body of long-form pieces. Mass-communal inclusion is the aim of the game here, and we can really hear it this album's the quivering, chamber-reverbed orange glow.

Review: Duane Pitre's Omniscient Voices is another excellent one from the acclaim pianist and composer. It is his first since the highs of 2015's 'Bayou Electric' and finds Pitre composing short piano motifs and feeding them into a generative computer program which then in real time convert them into microtonal electronic sounds. It results in an album of minimalism, with blurry chords and more detuned sounding notes that cut through the ambiance. Sounds decay and evolve, smudge and melt into one another as this warm and enveloping album unfolds with hints of sadness, loneliness and bitterness all found within.

Review: Wanderwelle's All Hands Bury The Cliffs At Sea album comes on the esteemed Important Records! and consists of "electro-acoustic threnodies for an environment at risk due to the effects caused by receding coastlines around the globe." The Amsterdam-based duo tells the story of the catastrophic activity of eroding waves and winds shaping the land that is enhanced by the climate crisis with the music. They have had some real-world and direct experiences of this and have had meetings with local maritime experts who have told their tales and in turn, inspired the pair to compose this moving and poignant music.
