Homesick #3 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: HMSK 003.
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Run Run Run (Borrowed Identity edit) (9:21)
  2. Sweet Love (Borrowed Identity edit) (6:55)
  3. Musique (Borrowed Identity edit) (9:24)
  4. You Can't Change A Man (Borrowed Identity edit) (5:55)
Review: Since launching in early 2014, the Hong Kong-based Homesick series - an offshoot of Cliche Records - has provided disco DJs with some of the strongest edits of recent times; reverential but floor-friendly reworks that get the right balance between re-mastered original parts and house-friendly additional beats. This third volume comes from Borrowed Identity, a house producer whose edits and productions have appeared on an impressive list of labels. These four reworks are predictably tidy, soulful and groovy, with familiar disco and soul staples being given loose but heavy rearrangements. Picking highlights is tough given the high quality threshold, but we're particularly taken with the vibraphone-laden party shuffle of "Run Run Run" and low-slung Afro-disco strut of "You Can't Change A Man".

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Jazz Carnival (General Ludd edit)
  2. Can't Hold The Feeling (General Ludd edit)
  3. I (General Ludd edit)
Review: Homesick #5 is the unplanned result of a tremendously funky DJ set by General Ludd (Mister Saturday Night / Rubadub) in Hong Kong. Three tracks have been chosen by the Homesick team to reflect the intense disco inferno atmosphere we all felt on that unforgettable night.

  2. Why (Jonathan Kusuma rework)
Review: The Hong Kong based Homesick team are back with their yearly release of quality reworks that has made the label sought after since their first release back in 2014. For the 7th opus they've worked with Indonesian artist Jonathan Kusuma (Previously on Cocktail D'Amore and I'm a Cliche) for two reworks that have been thoroughly tried on Asia's dance floors for the past two years.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Apocalypse Now (edit)
  2. African Temperament (SSR edit)
  3. Summer Madness (SSR edit 4YR)
  4. Gik Gwong Zung (MH edit)
Review: Helmed by a crew of ex-pats in Hong Kong craving the musical stimulation of their birthplaces, Homesick is a celebration of the nostalgia and passion at the root of all musical experience, as channeled through seriously on-point disco edits. After choice turns from General Ludd, Marquis Hawkes and others, this various artists 12" brings back former guests in an implied fashion for more of that worldly, adventurous boogie business. "Apocalypse Now" simmers with unresolved tension, tart drums and gnarled synth lines, while "African Temperament" lets the percussion tumble in a cavernous space. "Summer Madness" is a simmering, drum led version of KC Flightt's classic, and then "Gik Gwong Zung" pings the record off into cosmic synth disco territory for a perfect finishing move.
