Time & Space Remixes EP (feat Steve O'Sullivan, Brawther, Dyed Soundorom & John Thomas remixes)
Nasha's Groove (Steve O'Sullivan remix) (7:20)
Nasha's Groove (Brawther Deeeeep dub) (7:12)
Try To Breathe (Dyed Soundorom remix) (6:56)
Magic Carpet (John Thomas remix) (6:43)
Review: Lisbon's Jorge Caiado is a relentlessly productive figure in the contemporary deep and tech house scene, rolling out grade A material on labels like Balance, Groovement and Carpets & Snares. After dropping his impeccable Time & Space album last year, now Caiado has invited a stellar cast of club cats to step up with a fine spread of remixes. On the A side, 'Nasha's Groove' gets two versions. The first from Steve O'Sullivan keeps things tightly clipped and tracky, with a warm chord pulsing through the centre. Then Brawther's version takes things a little deeper, giving his dub ample space to truly roam free and take you under. Dyed Soundorom brings a slinky, techy vibe to 'Try To Breathe', and then John Thomas rounds things off by making 'Magic Carpet' into a clattering, quirky micro house workout much like you'd expect from the Logistic mainstay.

Nasha's Groove (Brawther Deeeeep dub) (7:12)
Tangram With My Sister (5:08)
Passeio Alegre (5:34)
Review: Hot on the heels of the "Time & Space" album, Jorge Caiado is back on his home turf with a new 12" produced in tribute to his dearly departed dog Nasha. The dedication track is a beautiful slice of jazzy house with nimble key playing throughout, which Brawther takes in a deeper direction for his remix. "Tangram With My Sister" is a snappier affair with crisp drums and slick chords, and "Passeio Alegre" maintains the mellow flow with more plush keys and a tight beat. Even if it came from a sad place, Caiado sounds philosophical and even uplifting on this refined EP, positioning himself as one of the finest contemporary deep house producers in operation right now.

Review: It was the best part of 10 years ago when Jorge Caiado was making some strong early steps on the mighty Balance, and here he is delivering a full-length for Groovement that's been seven years in the making. "Time & Space", as the name might suggest, look beyond the demands of the dance to explore a broader perspective of electronic music. Don't let the swooning ambient opener fool you though, there's plenty of Caiado's signature smooth as silk house to sip on too. "Nasha's Groove" is especially satisfying, while "Magic Carpet" brings a little salsa to the table. With soul, ambience, funk and freshness all rolled into one package, Caiado's long-winded album journey has been entirely worth it.

Soho
Review: The first of two Johnwaynes 12"s to land on the Juno doorstep this week (the other is on Portuguese imprint Groovement) comes courtesy of the excellent Let's Get Lost imprint, which has previously featured material from JD Twitch, Welcome Stranger, Greg Wilson and label boss KZA. As with previous instalments, the visual aesthetic is sparse, with the focus instead turned onto the music. In this area Johnwaynes excels; with acoustic guitar licks and softly chanting vocals riding atop a barely perceptible but insistent 4/4 kick. Flip over for the hypnotic and bewitching Arabic melodies of "1002 Nights" and sultry snake charming anthem that is "1003 Nights".

Deep Detroit Heat Re Edits Vol 2

Stand Up For The Soul (TP 2016 Deeep Detroit Heat re-edit) (8:11)
Play Ah Hate Ah (TP 2016 Bangin' House re-edit) (7:55)
What I Say Goes (TP 1997 unreleased Disco mix) (7:52)
Review: Detroit's finest: Terrence Parker returns with more crucial edits that this veteran of the Motor City only can deliver. First up is a revised work of Soul Man aka Donnie Mark's 1993 underground classic "Stand Up For The Soul". T.P.'s "Explosive Soul Mix" indeed appeared on the B side of the original pressing all those years ago, but this is a wonderfully modern rework. There is also the sleazy disco-funk loops of "Play Ah Hate Ah" (TP 2016 Bangin' House re-edit), the original appearing on Parker's 1997 album Detroit After Dark and "What I Say Goes" (TP 1997 unreleased Disco mix) from 1999's Strong Songs Album.

Flying With You EP

I Don't Mind Flying With You
An Abstract View
Virtual Region
To Be
Review: With previous efforts appearing for labels as highly-regarded as Ornate and Sthlmaudio, Sai is at it once more with a modern deep house sound that burrows into the psyche without compromising the energy required to ignite an expectant dancefloor. "I Don't Mind Flying With You" is awash with luxurious pads and a particularly bold breakdown, but the square wave bass anchors the mix perfectly to keep the groove intact. "An Abstract View" gets positively squelchy in the bottom end while languid horns and breathless vocal snippets drift in the mix, before "Virtual Region" cranks things up with some chunky Detroit moves and a choice line in bongos. "To Be" is equally technoid in its disposition, mixing equal parts mystery and harmony in a cauldron of electronic impulses.

Electro
Stranger In Paradise (5:50)
The Waves Of Hamo Bay (5:52)
Stranger In Paradise (James Shinra remix) (6:15)
The Waves Of Hamo (Jon Gurd remix) (6:06)
Review: The debut EP by Stranger In Paradise, a new solo project of Irish producer Dibby Dougherty, thoroughly impresses us, thanks to its clever use of suspense in melody and sensitive treatment of an often unsensitive genre. Mixed for a subtler breed of listener than your average wiry electro enjoyer, the likes of 'The Waves Of Hamo Bay' and 'Stranger In Paradise' are softly mixed, with pads and synths prioritised before drums, recalling the feeling of soaring over utopian Metropoli in a luxury hovercar - not scouring their desolate post-apocalyptic ruins, as is a more common theme in much electro. Shinra and Gurd's remixes are simpler, but still provide a nice counterpoint to the A-side's subtle cleverness.

It's Time Again
Review: Ecstasy & Release represents the debut album from Lisbon legend Tiago Miranda, arriving under the TNT Subhead name. Warmly regarded in his homeland for the weekly 7 hour plus DJ sets he's been holding down at Lisbon club Lux for some fifteen years, Miranda has enjoyed an equally illustrious, not to mention varied, production career over the past decade. He's perhaps best known for his output as Tiago but beyond this, Miranda's work has covered a broad span of projects and styles, which includes a stint in the krautrock meets Detroit techno of Portuguese group Gala Drop, as well as downtempo fare on ESP Institute as Sea Power and Change. Miranda himself describes the eight track Ecstasy & Release as his "first solo rocket" containing "ghosts of my life transcribing their emotions into techno". Truly compelling listening from one of the most under rated producers working today!
