Deep House
  1. Where Is My Soul Now
  2. Where Is My Soul Now (Minilogue Guqin mix)
Review: So, Dutch producer Pitto is working on his upcoming album. If the rest of the tracks run along the lines of "Sexvibe", "Feelin" and "Sea Lion Woman" - we here at Juno can't wait! A sneak preview from Green Holland has arrived with "Where My Soul Is Now", featuring vocals from Leonie Muller and remix from micro/minimal duo Minilogue. Muller's voice feels much like warm, smooth silk and is effortlessly crooned; when placed over Pitto's elegant and expertly produced deep house, the coupling is pretty damn close to perfection. Soft and muted keys, crunchy and reversed samples, plucked orchestral strings ... simply put, it's delicious. Flip over and Minilogues "Guqin" remix flings us directly into Arabian nights and Middle Eastern eclecticism - plucking violins dance in hazy forms over a beguiling backdrop.

Review: Some artists suit the album format more than others. Dutch producer Pitto is a good example. While he has quietly impressed with a handful of 12" singles over the past few years, his brand of uneasy techno-pop - featuring prominent vocals, field noises and glistening, glassy melodies - suits the humble long-player. This debut full-length gives him an opportunity to showcase this sound over the course of a pleasing hour, shoehorning in a few ambient moments (complete with oddball spoken word vocals) to help the flow. There are dancefloor moments - see the grandiose piano jazz exploits of "every Second Of You" and "Where My Soul Is Now" - but these are merely upbeat flourishes in a sea of mellow introspection.

Review: A Little Part Of Shade is the second album from Swiss producer Ripperton, arriving some three years on from his decidedly luscious debut long player Niwa. As was the case with that debut, A Little Part Of Shade sees release via Joris Voorn and Edwin Oosterwal's Green label, and this collaboration heavy album arrives with Ripperton having made moves to establish his own outlet via the fledgling Tamed Musiq label. This thirteen track set is a mature one from Ripperton, demonstrating all new levels of mood setting in an effort to deliver that most elusive of goals; a cohesive electronic artist album. Ripperton's talent for fluidly written, playful melodies is highlighted and the choice of vocalists really makes matters work - see Hemlock Smith's breezy turn on standout track "Tape Hiss".

Review: It's been a long time between drinks for Dutch techno legend Joris Voorn, whose last full-length, From A Deep Place, landed way back in 2007. Of course, there have been plenty of singles in that time, but Voorn's albums tend to be more esoteric, open-minded affairs. Certainly, Nobody Knows, his third LP, is a melodious, sometimes dreamy affair, with touching vocal cuts and sun-kissed collaborations (Matthew Dear, Kid A and his dad - on the superb "MoMo" - all lend a hand) nestling side by side with the kind of unflinchingly positive fare that sits somewhere between deep house, Detroit techno and an organic re-invention of classic tech-house.

  1. Esquape (7:13)
  2. Orange (6:24)
Review: The Dutch techno hero Joris Voorn returns with another fine escapade on his always reliable Green: the imprint which he's run with Edwin Oosterwal since 2005. Expect quality hi-tech soul as always by the master producer on "Esquape" displayed in exemplary fashion on this ultra uplifting journey and its numerous peaks and flows: all allowing for a euphoric dancefloor journey. On the flip, he offers up "Orange" which is a much mellower affair, jam packed with rich melodies, lush pads/sound design and immaculately programmed beats to keep your feet moving while it allows your mind to wander, far away.

  1. Dawn (Green mix) (5:45)
  2. Looks Fake Obviously (6:32)
Review: Joris Voorn's and Edwin Oosterwal's Green imprint has brought us some great music over the last several years and it just keeps going courtesy of the former's new release. This Story Until Now features two emotive and uplifting journeys through high tech soul that even the Motor City forefathers would even tip their hat to, such as on the breathtaking Adrenalin trip "Dawn (Green Mix)" with its rich strings, power pianos and energetic groove that ticks all the right boxes. On the flip "Looks Fake Obviously" is great title when you consider that Voorn creates the most perfect journey track filled with the most epic dancefloor drama that'll make all the copycats of the moment bow their heads in shame. Epic stuff!
