Review: The Way Things Fall sees the enduring Detroit electro pair Adult return with their fifth studio album and their first in some six years. Fans of their output will be thankful this album even exists as Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus apparently had little intention to add another long player to their discography when they entered a studio in Detroit last year to record the two track Cover(s) 12" for Ghostly International. Finding their creative batteries recharged, Adult was fully reborn and Miller and Kuperus are on fine form here. Tracks like "Heartbreak" and "At The End Of It All" will have Fil Ok and JoJo De Freq considering a Nag Nag Nag revival, whilst "Tonight We Fall" agitates with post punk menace yet intermittently dovetails into joyous fuzzy synth territory. Extending their range further "New Frustration" and "Love Lies" could be mistaken for Das Ding collaborating with Desire and overall Adult fans will find it hard to resist the album's charms.

Review: Beacon's debut album, 2013's The Ways We Separate, was something of an overlooked gem. Here, the duo returns to Ghostly International with a belated follow-up that's every bit as magical, dreamy and intoxicating. As with that album, Escapements sees them blend their own fragile, evocative vocals with icy synthesizer refrains, glacial chords, intricate melodies, and beat patterns that variously reference post-dubstep bass music, hip-hop, synth-pop, outsider house and straight-up downtempo grooves. In other words, it's a hugely atmospheric and intoxicating set, heavy on yearning emotion and woozy, electronic bliss.

Review: Brijean is the combination of percussionist and singer Brijean Murphy and multi-instrumentalist and producer Doug Stuart channelling their collective experiences into fresh rhythms. They debuted their first Ghostly album back in 2021 and since then have left the Bay Area. This new EP finds the pair at their most intimate, working through grief and exploring a new range of moods and styles across effervescent rhythms and colourful chords that bring rich and vibrant feelings to the fore. It's a captivating and creative record that might be their best yet.

Review: Bullion continues to perfect his endlessly charming strain of modernist synth pop with this new album for Ghostly International. The lead single from the album sets the tone beautifully, as the mighty Carly Rae Jepsen lends her voice to 'Rare' for a blissful, woozy ride through exquisite song craft that calls back to AOR and soft rock as much as synthwave. Further guest spots arrive from Panda Bear and Charlotte Adigery, but as ever Bullion's own charisma remains the driving force on this latest dose of honey-coated audio pleasure from a master of the art.

Review: Bullion (Nathan Jenkins) returns with a surprise full-length album, Affection. Breaking from his irreverent electro-shanties for a minute, Affection reminds us of Jenkins' far-reaching capacities as a producer and songwriter, with each song on this expansive new LP centring on the titular theme of affection and intimacy. Avowing the sound advice that is not to take others' advice, Bullion's M.O. going into the record was to follow his instincts and treat the studio as a site of adventure; this is reflected as much in the album's roomy, deep and detuned pop ditties, which veer away from banger science and more into the slow dreams of warm synths, subtle progressions and emergent horizons. Carly Rae Jepsen's feature is the bait highlight on 'Rare', though star cuts like 'World_train' and 'Cinch' also catch us off guard.

Review: It is one of the most successful and domineering computer games of all times, which is completely baffling to anyone over a certain age. But whether or not you understand Minecraft doesn't matter, it has global appeal and a unique soundtrack. It is that which is paid tribute to here with Ghostly International dropping the Minecraft Volume Alpha as composed by Rosenfeld under his C418 alias. It's a record of vibrant sound design that echos the work of Pete Namlook and Brian Eno and is sure to become a cult classic in its own right.

Review: While the appeal of Minecraft may be lost on some, there's no doubting the cultural significance of the immersive, user-built game. One of the title's most attractive features has always been its' music, which was composed, played and produced by a hitherto unknown German producer called Daniel Rosenfeld, under the C418 alias. Here, in the first of two volumes, Ghostly International showcases the best of Rosenfeld's work for the series. Sitting somewhere between the spacious ambience of Pete Namlook and Brian Eno, the heart-aching piano motifs of Eric Satie, and the sweeping orchestral pulse of a movie soundtrack, the 24 pieces here stand up with anything released by seasoned ambient producers in recent times.

Review: Following 2012's stellar album In Decay, vintage analogue explorer Com Truise returns to Ghostly with the Wave 1 EP, which sees the US-based producer experiment with a range of tempos to great effect, with New Order and Prince cited as influences. This is most obvious on the Joel Ford-featuring "Declination", which combines '80s electrofunk production with silky vocal delivery, and tracks like "Mind" and "Vallis Called (Control)" where the frenetic rhythms of footwork seem to be an influence. Despite this, the producer's vintage tendencies still loom large - especially on the sublime opener "Wasat", a melancholic slice of emotive techno.

Review: It's surely a mark of the quality of his music that focus doesn't dwell too long on Com Truise's somewhat risible name. Due to the critical acclaim afforded to his bottom heavy slant on vintage 80s electrofunk across debut LP Galactic Melt, Ghostly revisit his previously digital only Fairlight EP and grant it the vinyl release the Upstate New Yorker's music so richly deserves. Along with the glistening bass gurgle of the title track and the scratchier, smacked out robotic psychedelia of "Beta Eyes", Ghostly finally unleash the Com Truise jam "Colourvision". The track has been teasing arrivals at the Com Truise Soundcloud page for far too long - it's possibly the producer's most concise attempt at dancefloor dynamism and really packs an emotive punch once the synths hook in place.

Review: Ghostly International are back on the ante-up with Com Truise aka Seth Haley, a Brooklyn-based synth maverick who has made a name for himself this year. From the melancholic timbres of "Sundripped" to the Italo-disco chimes of "Slow Peels", this is a record with a one size fits all banner. "Norkuy" is also a stunner, showing off Haley's synthesiser skills but "5891" is one of those special moments, sending you swimming in a distant but reassuring world of smooth chords and spwaning cowbells.

Review: Ghostly International has picked up a lot as of late, and it's high time that this excellent label started to bring us new and exciting talent again. Here we have Com Truise - Tom Cruise's alias when he hangs around the scientology meets (just kidding!) - and five masterful slices of synth-heavy dance music. "Sunspot" is a delicate scorcher boasting a beautiful pattern of melodies, "Forgive" goes for the new age look and feel, "Diffraction" sits somewhere between disco and balearic, the title track "Silicon Tare" is the kind of beat-heavy tune you'd be listening to on a beach in LA, and "Du Zirconia" stutters its beats over a grainy bassline that recalls 1980's boogie. Sick.

Review: Seth Haley begun has career as Com Truise with a bang, releasing two superb albums on Ghostly International in as many years. Curiously, it's taken him five years to conjur up album number three, the typically spacey, melodious and intergalactic Iteration. As you'd expect, his usual musical reference points - Vangelis's Blade Runner soundtrack, early synth-wave, skewed lo-fi boogie, late night radio instrumentals - are all still much in evidence, as his is passion for dusty old synthesizers, cheap drum machines and ear-pleasing melodies. In effect, it's business as usual, though when the music is this cheery, tuneful and atmospheric, it would be churlish to complain.

Now presented on rather fetching black and orange "swirl" vinyl housed in a similarly deluxe sleeve (there's spot-varnish aplenty), the remastered album has never looked and sounded so good. It always sounded great, of course, with the American producer effectively defining his now trademark sound - all eight-bit synthesizer sounds, sun-bright melodies, dusty drum machines, arcade-ready electronic motifs and feelgood aural references to 1980s musical culture. Highlights include 'VHS Sex', 'Aircal', 'Hyperlips', 'Glawio' and pulsating closing cut 'Futureworld'.

Review: Following the release of his last album of synthesizer-driven imagined sci-fi themes, 2017's "Iteration", Seth Haley AKA Com Truise set about rebuilding his studio, refreshing his palette of sounds and developing a new approach. The result is "Persuasion System", a set of unsurprisingly synthesizer-driven tracks that feels warmer and more human than much of the producer's previous work. Of course, Haley's seemingly inherent melodiousness and obsession with bold aural colours remains at the forefront throughout, meaning that even more bittersweet moments - see "Ultrafiche Of You", "Privilege Escalation" and opaque ambient moments "Gaussian" and "Departure" - will leave listeners feeling suitably warm and fuzzy inside.

Review: Ghostly International come through with belated double LP vinyl edition of In Decay, the second LP from Seth Haley, better known as Com Truise, which was originally issued digitally back in 2012. Here you have thirteen diverse tracks ranging from funky, boogie-inspired drum machine soul to more watery soundscapes and creative little collages. The opener itself, "Open", is a majestic ride into the sun. The successive track, "84 Dreamin", is just as good if not better, and this process repeats itself another eleven times, until the end of this epic journey into sound.

Review: Ghostly International founder Matthew Dear lays down the foundations of expectation for his forthcoming LP Beams with the elasticated delights of "Her Fantasy". Typical production idiosyncrasies from Dear are evident throughout, as the track quickly fills the stereo expanses with a multi-layered backing for the producer's distinctive vocal swagger and endlessly twisting synth arpeggio to bounce over. A jubilant accordion line provides the musical ingenuity on "Crimewave", shifting in and out of focus as the track dips and weaves with rhythmic drama, and the entire B Side is dedicated to remix of the title track from Tornado Wallace. The Australian Simpsons expert does a fine job in teasing out the clomping possibilities of the percussion while introducing a searing electronic synth lead that mutates with prowess as the track progresses.

Review: Following on from the teasing single "Her Fantasy", Matthew Dear's latest album fully reveals itself, and provides a natural progression from the promise laid out by that initial track. In many ways the album is a step on from the bizarre synth-pop of Black City, delving into the freaky sound design of Krautrock to provide new textures of a more organic nature in amidst the machines. Tactile bass guitars shear themselves against intricate layers of arpeggio and crisp lashings of guitar, getting ever closer to an authentic band sound which Dear has been slowly edging towards since he flipped his own script with Asa Breed back in 2007.

Review: Matthew Dear returns with his new album, Black City, an epic 10-track journey that takes us through experimental electronica, trip-hoppy influences and almost 80s sounding moments. Playing with more digital sounds than expected, he seems to have taken one step closer to blur the lines into his aliases as Audion and Jabberjaw here, most notably on the title track where soaring synths and a catchy bassline are met with a housier beat. Having grown up in Detroit, the Ghostly International/Spectral Sounds' co-founder along with Samuel Valenti IV, has evidently been influenced by the heavier and darker techno sounds in the scene around him as heard in his other musical projects. However under his own name, he has always maintained a more acoustic and analogue sound with softer vocals and instrumental samples. In comparison to his first three albums Leave Luck to Heaven, Asa Breed and Backstroke, the highly anticipated fourth instalment shows his already highly reputable production skills have improved even more. "Slowdance" off the new album stands out with synthy effects and a slower pace, whilst tracks like "Monkey" are strong and intense, littered with disturbing primate-focused lyrics. Ending on "Gem", an anthemic piano piece with soft vocals, we're left to mull over a genre-defying and ambitious full length. Top release.

Review: The latest single from Matthew Dear's well-received Black City album comes with a pair of inspired remixes from Ed Banger's Breakbot and rising star Nicolas Jaar. It's the former who provides the most radical rework, abandoning the growl of the new wave-influenced original in favour of some soft-focus 80s soul flava. With its twanging slap bass, heartwarming keys and retro synth touches, it sounds like a slo-mo pop version of Dam Funk or Krystal Klear. Jaar, on the other hand, opts for an altogether more atmospheric take, laying down a spine-tingling experimental deep house version that captures the zeitgeist perfectly.

Review: Michigan by way of Texas producer Matthew Dear has had an illustrious career, spanning nearly 20 years producing techno and minimal under such alises as Audion and Jabberjaw. But it's under his birth name that he has created his most thoughtful and innovative work that has resulted in several studio albums - this being his sixth. Bunny is said to have been inspired by an objective view of his career thus far, as well as becoming a father, being inspired by his collaborations and just knowing what works musically - coming from experience. Bunny certainly has its moments: from the low slung Bowie-esque pop of "Calling", the smooth neon-lit noir of "Modafinil Blues" or his collaborations with Canadian duo Tegan & Sara - particularly the irresistible lead single "Bad Ones".

Review: Matthew Dear's "Don & Sherri" is an emotional explosion, a robust and elegant marriage of beats and melody, hinting at the more accomplished lyricism and deft songwriting explored on the universally well-received album "Asa Breed". It's the most dancefloor ready track on the album, fuelled by what seems to be a nagging sense of self-doubt.

Review: Matthew Dear's "Asa Breed" finds the Detroit based electronic artist achieving new artistic heights - it's more robust, more accessible, and yet still undeniably Matthew Dear. Incorporating his uniquely crafted textures alongside rhythmic influences from Brian Eno & David Byrne's classic "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts", plus a lyrical storytelling element from his Texas upbringing, "Asa Breed" is a completely unique musical experience.

Review: It would be fair to say that Drama's debut album is a confident affair, but then they have been quietly developing their sound via self-released singles and EPs since 2016. The Chicago-based duo is now operating on Ghostly International, and "Dance Without Me" feels like a significant release. Musically, it's hugely attractive, delivering a set of songs that effortlessly blur the boundaries between shiny electronic pop, R&B, neo-soul, house, '80s boogie and the hard-to-pigeonhole musical warmth that is most often described as "Balearic". First and foremost it is a pop album, and a grown up one at that. It feels like it has crossover potential, though it's detailed, layered and imaginative enough to excite those who inhabit the musical underground.

Review: Emeralds really are the gift that keeps on giving. And giving. tTe Cleveland, Ohio-trio have around 40 releases out, which landed in rapid succession over a period of about four years. Many are self-facilitated CDs and cassettes, nodding to a 'record everything' mentality that keeps them front of mind, and invites listeners into their development, wrong turns and staggering successes. Within that insanely long oeuvre, formal releases bookend mini eras, each showcasing a slightly refined, retuned and rethought sound. Does It Look Like I'm Here? is no different, offering the most beautiful and crystalline music this outfit has made to date. Up against the epic-dominated preceding outings, where ten minute tunes abound, things are more 'standard album format here', with a couple of exceptions. But the tracks are not bound by uniformity or rules of this or that, and instead feel just as expansive.

Review: Given the saucer-eyed beauty and analogue rich grooves of his 2012 debut album for 100% Silk, Kingdoms, it's perhaps unsurprising that Sam Velenti moved quickly to sign Matt 'Fort Romeau' Green to Ghostly International. A pair of impressive EPs later, Green delivers his second LP. It's another cracker, with breezy, occasionally electrofunk-influenced analogue deep house and leftfield synth-pop grooves being peppered with an enticing range of dreamy chords, curious vocoder vocals and, most notably, deliciously evocative melodies. It makes for hugely enjoyable listening throughout, with highlights including - but not confined to - the new age ambient bliss of "IKB" and humid, chiming "Cloche".

Review: Some seven years after his last full-length excursion, Fort Romeau has finally got around to delivering a new album. Beings of Light is every bit as gorgeous and picturesque affair, with the Chester-born producer adding waves of attractive synthesizer sounds, colourful electronics, cascading guitars, dusty samples and loved-up riffs to sturdy deep house beats. The album's multitude of highlights include bluesy, post jazz-house number 'The Truth', the tech-tinged late-night wonkiness of 'Power of Grace', the sturdy and druggy after-hours chug of 'Ramona' and the dreamy lusciousness of title track 'Beings of Light'.

Review: There's little revolutionary about Galcher Lustwerk's third album in as many years, but it could well be his best collection of work to date. Riffing on the deep, off kilter and pleasingly woozy trademark sound he's developed since making his vinyl debut in 2013, "Information" is the kind of set that sounds equally as good at home or on the bus as it does surging from oversized club soundsystems in a converted Brooklyn loft. It's full to bursting with evocative early morning deep house, of course, but it never slips into "overly polite" territory due to the New York producer's love of dusty, crunchy drum machine hits, and bass guitar parts so warm and toasty you could probably use them to toast waffles.

Review: These days Galcher Lustwerk is well-known for his unique blends of deep house, techno and immersive electronica, but back in 2013, when he recorded the '100% Galcher' mix for Blowing Up The Workshop, he'd yet to release any music. It was therefore a bold decision to create the mix purely from his own stems and unreleased tracks. Nine years on, Ghostly International has decided to turn that mix into an "album proper', presenting the tracks - sequenced, but unmixed - on CD for the very first time. It's a fabulously deep, melodious and immersive collection all told, packed to the rafters with dreamy, effects-laden synth sounds, minimal house and deep house beats, leisurely beatdown grooves, nods to future R&B and tactile, mood-enhancing melodic motifs.

Review: Galcher Lustwerk is one of those artists who has a completely diehard fan base. And for good reason, he is an idiosyncratic producer who collides myriad different sounds. Rap, funk, blues, beatboxing, techno, electro and bass are all fair game to him. His fist ever mixtape was a stream of sonic consciousness that has never before been released on vinyl. But now Ghostly International step up and press it to two 12"s, with both black and coloured green versions as well as a CD version available. It was a fine announcement of his arrival back then and still stands apart today.

Review: Steve Hauschildt's profile has been on a steady rise since he moved from his long time home of Kranky to Ghostly International. It was a logical move to partner up with the Ann Arbor label as it encouraged the emotional side of his regal ambient pieces to shine through in line with the sensitive tones of other Ghostly alumni (Tycho, Telefon Tel Aviv, Shigeto, for example). On his second album for the label, Hauschildt sounds more moving than ever, his winsome compositions reaching towards bigger spaces especially on rhythmically charged tracks like "Subtractive Skies". This is no drastic departure from his established identity, but rather a considered evolution towards a new space in which his muse can reside.

Review: Since Emeralds disbanded earlier in the decade, Steve Hauschildt has impressed with a serious of largely overlooked albums on Kranky that showcased his innate ability to craft distinctly melodic music that sits somewhere between IDM, slowly shifting ambient, droning soundscapes and more ethereal home listening techno. Dissolvi, his first album for Ghostly International, could well be his most accomplished solo work to date. While it explores similar sonic territory to previous full-length releases, the set is bolder, more atmospheric and, at times, intensely beautiful. While undoubtedly fresh, those with long memories will note audible nods to ambient and deep techno greats of the early 1990s, including Jonah Sharp (Spacetime Continuum), Pete Namlook and, most obviously, Boards of Canada. In a word: timeless.
