Review: Following the release of his last album of synthesizer-driven imagined sci-fi themes, 2017's "Iteration", Seth Haley AKA Com Truise set about rebuilding his studio, refreshing his palette of sounds and developing a new approach. The result is "Persuasion System", a set of unsurprisingly synthesizer-driven tracks that feels warmer and more human than much of the producer's previous work. Of course, Haley's seemingly inherent melodiousness and obsession with bold aural colours remains at the forefront throughout, meaning that even more bittersweet moments - see "Ultrafiche Of You", "Privilege Escalation" and opaque ambient moments "Gaussian" and "Departure" - will leave listeners feeling suitably warm and fuzzy inside.

Review: It would be fair to say that Drama's debut album is a confident affair, but then they have been quietly developing their sound via self-released singles and EPs since 2016. The Chicago-based duo is now operating on Ghostly International, and "Dance Without Me" feels like a significant release. Musically, it's hugely attractive, delivering a set of songs that effortlessly blur the boundaries between shiny electronic pop, R&B, neo-soul, house, '80s boogie and the hard-to-pigeonhole musical warmth that is most often described as "Balearic". First and foremost it is a pop album, and a grown up one at that. It feels like it has crossover potential, though it's detailed, layered and imaginative enough to excite those who inhabit the musical underground.

Review: There's little revolutionary about Galcher Lustwerk's third album in as many years, but it could well be his best collection of work to date. Riffing on the deep, off kilter and pleasingly woozy trademark sound he's developed since making his vinyl debut in 2013, "Information" is the kind of set that sounds equally as good at home or on the bus as it does surging from oversized club soundsystems in a converted Brooklyn loft. It's full to bursting with evocative early morning deep house, of course, but it never slips into "overly polite" territory due to the New York producer's love of dusty, crunchy drum machine hits, and bass guitar parts so warm and toasty you could probably use them to toast waffles.

Review: Steve Hauschildt's profile has been on a steady rise since he moved from his long time home of Kranky to Ghostly International. It was a logical move to partner up with the Ann Arbor label as it encouraged the emotional side of his regal ambient pieces to shine through in line with the sensitive tones of other Ghostly alumni (Tycho, Telefon Tel Aviv, Shigeto, for example). On his second album for the label, Hauschildt sounds more moving than ever, his winsome compositions reaching towards bigger spaces especially on rhythmically charged tracks like "Subtractive Skies". This is no drastic departure from his established identity, but rather a considered evolution towards a new space in which his muse can reside.

Review: Given that five years has passed since the last HTRK full-length, "Psychic 9-5 Club", it's perhaps not that surprising that the duo's new album, "Venus In Leo" sounds notably different from its predecessors. While the pair's emotionally charged, melancholic approach remains in tact, the dubbed-out downtempo pop that marked out "Psychic 9-5 Club" has been replaced by a drowsier, ethereal sound seemingly inspired by a mixture of the Cocteau Twins, The Durutti Column, Massive Attack's "Mezzanine", David Lynch film soundtracks and sunrise-ready, slow motion dream pop. The results are uniformly inspired, with Jonnine Standish's heart-felt, soft focus vocals sounding particularly emotive and evocative this time round.

Review: Micha Jacaszek's music has always been filmic to varying degrees, but it's only in the last decade that filmmakers have commissioned him to write, record and produce music for their big and small screen projects. His latest album, "Music For Films", riffs on this; while some of it was indeed created with specific cinematic projects in mind, some of it wasn't. Listening through from start to finish, where it comes on like a genuine soundtrack to a melancholic, noir-ish film, it's hard to spot the difference. Combining neo-classical string sounds with field recordings, electro-acoustic textures, ambient style chords and melodies, and nods to music concrete, it's an evocative musical journey that stirs the senses and toys with your emotions. In a word: stunning.

Review: Dwell is Recondite's sixth sumptuous album, and is a return to the Ghostly label that first released him in 2013. Since then his style has remained true to his gliding, delicate, hypnotic techno roots, with only the most subtle sonic evolutions marking each new record. This one takes in wandering and melancholic numbers like the title track as well as darker trips like "Black Letter". Each and every time, tracks are built on frictionless grooves, with the most deft synths layered up and twinkling keys gently sprinkled up top. What Recondite does, he does very well.

Review: When asked to describe the thinking behind her first album for Ghostly International in one sentence, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith told the label that is was an, "expression of love and appreciation for electricity". There are some deeper and more complex concepts at play, too, but it seems a little unnecessary to list them here; after all, Smith's majestic and mesmerising modular movements can be enjoyed regardless of the admirable inspirations behind them. From start to finish "The Mosaic of Transformation" ripples with ear-catching electronics, unfurling melodic refrains, attractive otherworldly sounds, dreamy layered vocals and emotive, meditative motifs. At times, her synthesizer compositions are almost neo-classical in structure and feel, making the album one of Smith's most widescreen works to date.

Review: "Dreams Are Not Enough" is not only the first Telefon Tel Aviv album for a decade, but also the first since the accidental death of founder member Charles Cooper the same year. It's perhaps understandable, then, that the album is bittersweet and melancholic in tone, with surviving member John Eustis offering up a range of drowsy, dream-like songs and instrumentals - think layered ambient, gentle Balearic synth-pop and tear-jerking late night soundscapes - that seem more laden with feeling than anything he or Cooper released during the band's successful early years. It's a genuinely beautiful, poignant and picturesque set capable of stirring emotions in even the most steely of listeners, and a fitting tribute - if, indeed, it was meant to be - to Telefon Tel Aviv's missing member.

Review: Ghostly International always exercise extremely good taste when gathering together material for their compilations, and so it goes on "Thousands Of Eyes In The Dark". As well as label regulars like Tadd Mullinix you can hear the likes of Emily A Sprague, Grand River and Sarah Davachi all imparting their captivating approaches to ambient composition. There's a sense of narrative flow to this record as it moves from one piece to the next, and the relatively compact tracks help facilitate this sense of movement through a calm and captivating space. From charming synth soliloquies to pop-tinged drone, this is a compilation as a meaningful artistic statement in itself.
