DSR House EP 2

Alfonso Bottone - "How 2 Love Me" (6:41)
Alfonso Bottone - "Give It To Me" (6:50)
DiscoJuice - "Rhythm Sun" (7:22)
DiscoJuice - "Flowers" (6:47)
Review: Napoli's Alfonso Bottone brings plenty of lush Italian dream-house vibes to the two tunes he offers up on this new Dailysession EP. 'How 2 Love Me' is perfectly misty and lo-fi with mellifluous pads and wispy chords drifting over muddled beats. There is a little more bite and drive to 'Give It To Me,' the wooden kicks shuffle along beneath soulful vocal stabs and glistening perc. The vibes stay just as rich, warm and musical on the flip with DiscoJuice in charge. 'Rhythm Sun' has a tropical glow and shimmering steel drum sounds that bring a carnival atmosphere and 'Flowers' then closes out with irresistible house swing and melodies Roy Ayres would be proud of.

This Sound (feat E-Man) (5:43)

You Make Me Happy (Monchan extended edit) (7:20)
Let It Play (Monchan instrumental mix) (6:50)
Review: Bradford James and DJ Monchan return to the workshop for four delicious deep house dispatches. Each groove riding with its own dreamy narrative, "This Sound" cascades with woozy pads and a little plucked arpeggio giving E-Man more than enough space to harmonise with gravitas while "Sparks" offers more of an introspective daydream. A sunset roadtrip of a vibe that touches on both blues and Balearic; once again there's bags of roomy for vocalist Bonita Oliver. Flip for two instant uplifts as "You Make Me Happy" pays homage to the source and "Let It Play" is all about the street-strutting groove so tight it would make Alan Kendall blush. Get to work.

Everybody Rocking On Your Dime (6:55)
Deeper Than 17 (5:26)
So Hot (Monchan 64 St Marks edit) (7:39)
Review: Boston meets Brooklyn as two long-standing contributors to their city's deep disco scenes unite to form Cedar Sound Workshop. Combining their love for the restrained groove Bradford James and Dailysessions-founder DJ Monchan crack open the filtered abyss on "Everybody Rocking On Your Dime" while "Deeper Than 17" fluctuates with a lighter, airier array of atmospheres and heartbeat-style synth bass. For added pops and crackles, Monchan also throws down a heavier guitar-crunching, bass-slapping disco version of "So Hot". Keep working it.

Dreamin' (5:57)
Dreamin' (vocal) (6:02)
Dreamin' (CedarSoundWorkshop remix) (5:18)
Dreamin' (Monchan remix) (6:04)
Review: Stay Current stalwart D Briggs pitches up on DJ Monchan's Dailysession Records for the very first time, bringing with him a melodious and positive trademark sound that should appeal to both nu-disco DJs and confirmed house heads. 'Dreamin', which he's presented in instrumental and vocal mix forms, is fundamentally a summery deep house record, but many of its cheery musical elements (bubbly synth sounds, happy-go-lucky melodies and a D-Train style bassline) are more often heard in retro-futurist boogie and proto-house inspired nu-disco records. Those who want a hazier deep house interpretation should check Cedar Sound Workshop's wonderfully warm flipside remix, while label boss Monchan's take is a spacey, two-step electro delight.

Life (7:16)
Time (6:09)
Review: The opening salvo on DailySessions's new one for their own label manages to be both musically deep and subtle, as well as widely appealing thanks to the iconic vocal sample. It's left to soar over late night chords and nice organic beats that are filled with jazz cool and lounge lushness. On the flip is 'Time' which has possibly and even more famous vocal. This one gets a slightly punchier groove to carry it along, with all manner of Balearic guitar riffs layered in. Both are guaranteed fun-time floor fliers.

Ride On Time (8:49)
Brooklyn For You (7:13)
Riverside Hotel (5:32)
Review: A deep-thinking EP to curb your preexisting ideas of what Tokyo dance music is or consists of. Made by an unknown artist working with the label Dailysession, the tracks here subvert the emotional underpinning of Japanese city pop and Shibuya-kei into a house framework. On 'Ride On Time', a lo-fi, mournful voice lifed from some rather obscure classic 80s city pop track (Tatsuro Yamashita's 'Ride On Time', to be exact) gets a thorough sonic relayering, with piano glissandos signalling beat drops (as you do). The B contains two further gems; 'Brooklyn For You' goes mad on the 808s in a beguiling, detouring hip-hop remix of Masta Ace's 'Take A Look Around', while a third and rather haunting house remix of one classic unknown 'Riverside Hotel' completes things.

Wrecked Train Disco (4:58)
Review: Dailysessions Monchan lets rip with a second volume in his "East Village Edits" series. Once again and it's a full spectrum adventure that will leave you puzzling over what to drop first. Will it be the lolloping bass and vibraphone jam that's "Groove Go Around" or the tightly plucked, siren-soaked percussive disco bubbler "All U Need"? Perhaps you'll go for the big string dynamite of "You Are My Superwoman" first? Or maybe, just maybe you'll freak out with the block-rocking b-boy jam "Wrecked Train Disco"? One thing is definite: this EP really is the bee's knees.

Can't Lose The Feeling (6:08)
Review: It's been a while since we had a sesh with DJ Monchan, since late 2017 to be precise, but he's making up for lost time with this super smooth four track floor burner. Deeply dug, cleverly layered and rearranged and tailored for the dance, each cut tickles a different corner of the soul; "Heart Breaks" brings serious dollops of slimy, sleazy bass under sultry lyrics, "Feel The Groove" is all about those heavenly cascading scat vocals, "Party Down" whirls and stuns with a fiery freestyle jazz funk swoon while "Can't Lose The Feeling" brings us back home on the most chic of touches. Time to glide away on those strings.

You (5:49)
Review: Dailysessions has been rolling out its East Village Edits series for seven superb volumes up to now. The eighth keeps up the label's fine tradition and is another red hot four tracker from DJ Monchan that packs a big punch each and every time. 'Heat Body' opens up with the sort of lung-busting vocals that no one can ignore as well as a nice funky bass riff. 'Believe' then steps it up with some sixties strings and jazz-funk breaks that heat you right though and 'Dancing Love' then glistens and glows with a deeper and more seductive sound.

90 Exclusive (7:15)
Review: Seven years after he inaugurated the series, Dailysession Records founder DJ Monchan (AKA Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and scalpel fiend Toshihiro Moriguchi) presents a ninth volume of East Village Edits. There's plenty of confirmed dancefloor heat to be found across the EP, from the heavyweight underground disco-funk hedonism of 'Changes' (whose spacey, 70s style synth sounds add a deliciously cosmic after-taste) and the piano-laden, everything-but the kitchen sink disco madness of 'Triple Eching' (check the extended, percussion-laden drum breaks), to the breezy, gently housed-up, slap bass-propelled bounce of 'Feel Sweet Love' and the squelchy, slow motion, hard-to-pigeonhole, Wackies-esque reggae-boogie of '90 Exclusive'.

Steal Away (4:33)
Trouble Man (6:33)
Review: This popular series of edits from Dailysession reaches the milestone of a tenth volume here and of course it does so in fine style. DJ Monchan is the man with the goods and he soon makes a mark with opener 'Precious Love' which is a soul gem that will swell the heart. 'Feel It' is a rousing and gospel laced tune with belting vocals and 'Steal Away' then brings some funky disco ass-shaking. 'Trouble Man' close down with an epic soul vocal that sends shivers down the spine. It's a magnificently stirring tune to close a solid EP.

DJ Monchan - "M To M" (DJ Monchan Wet Guitar edit) (7:18)
Review: Monchan's Dailysessions dispatches don't come regularly. But when they do, you know you need to act fast. Packed with four precision cuts, the label's seventh outing is no less essential; Monchan's "This Sound" is a loose late night groove that softly thumps with an Innervisions-style groove while Bradford's "Deep Dance" is a beautiful dubby house shaker that's rooted in early Yoshitoshi soul. Flip for two supreme disco/funk edits as Monchan plays out our deepest fantasies before taking a trip Planet O'Jay. Finesse.

Review: After some releases on stillove4music and Razor N tape, Brooklyn's Toshihiro Moriguchi aka Monchan is back (with DRUG) on his own DS Records imprint to bring you East Village Edits 7 - packed with four major dancefloor bombs. There's the low slung and spiritual guitar virtuoso action of 'Slinky Band' (DRUG edit), followed by a nifty edit of a certain English new wave pop classic on 'Faith Hope & Dub' (DRUG edit). On the flip, there's an underground goodie you're sure to know of by a certain legend (hint: a well-known Latin soul musician from New York) on the infectious 'Clap Song' (Monchan edit).

Review: Chicago OG Fields has gone next level so many times he's now on the "17th Level" courtesy of Monchan's hot-to-trot Dailysessions stable. Two originals, two remixes, four stunning stripped-back gems in total; "17th Level" is a perky jazz party piece with a sprightly off-beat riff while "Surely It Will" lowers its head and gets wavy in the rippling synth washes. Monchan provides the remixes with added chunk and shuffle. Sublime.

Review: Longstanding house innovator/crafter Jordan Fields returns with another deep study. This time the fine art of dancing is analysed through jacking machine and sopping wet android bass while Dailysessions' founder Monchan and Bradford James apply a little cosmic soul to the vibe with their edit. Flip for two divine disco flavoured edits from rising Brooklyn editor Son Of Lee; "G Thang" kisses us goodbye with some delicious strings and shiny guitar breakdowns while "Spit Take" covers us in a big ol' coat of dusty soul for the finale. Artful.

On Our Way Home (Prince Klassen edit) (6:26)
Feeling's Gone Dub (Monchan edit) (6:11)
Dub Is Now (Monchan 2 Sugar edit) (6:12)
Review: NYC's DJ Monchan is a true house believer, and his Dailysession label continues to fly the flag for the truest, most soulful iteration of deep house. Just listen to this latest VA release, which leads in with the soul-stirring power of Javonntte singing over Gastek & LDF's smouldering 'Heaven'. Meanwhile Rich H channels a little of that Mr Fingers magic for his instrumental meditation, 'Taking Direction'. On the flip, we slip into the edit side of Dailysession as Prince Klassen does some funky magic with 'On Our Way Home' and Monchan himself has fun dubbing out the heavy percussive throwdown of 'Feeling's Gone Dub'. He also gets into a vintage Levan-esque mode on 'Dub Is Now (Monchan 2 Sugar edit)', coming on like it's a Friday night in 1983.

The blueprint setter who remains as relevant and resonant now as he did in 86 makes an appearance on Daily Session in dub and edit form. Mesmerising, simple but shining with soul "Heaven" has Heards' fingerprints all over it (sorry) Flip for treatment from fellow pioneer Jordan Fields (slick synths and jacking) and Daily Session's Monchan (New Jersey organs and a dreamy swing) Heaven sent.

Review: Monchan and D Briggs are two US house producers whose involvement in the New York scene has seen to many a dazzling EP release lately. Their latest for Dailysession here is a dizzying yet loose affair, with its four tracks inspired by every sound from space disco to trance to nu-jazz. Impressive textures immerse tracks like 'Eagle Eyes' in grit, while edits from Monchan and visitor Prince Klassen revisit the formerly released 'Midnight Luv Bee' and 'Ibiza' respectively. Both make for convincingly retro, night driving disco and pop versions of two very well known songs - we'll leave the guesswork to you.

Please Come Home (Joey M DJ Heaven edit) (9:40)
Review: Stone cold edit gold from the man like Danny Krivit. Tagged up with Joey Madonia, the pair deliver two blisteringly soulful versions. "Give It Up" hits us smack dab in the heart with its gutsy instrumentation, floating harmonies and raw sense of funk. Meanwhile on the flip Joey switches up "Please Come Home" with a very neat instrumental transformation that retains the big backing vocals. Don't sleep on this.

Review: New York City via Japan based imprint Dailysession returns this week with a 12' featuring two of house music's ascendant producers. On the first side of DSR House EP3, you've got Nicola Loporchio aka Nico Lahs, a Southern Italian DJ who's released on Metamorphic Recordings, Adeen and Ovum among others. His two contributions are 'Interstellar Ride' which channels the celestial vibes of early Larry Heard or Hieroglyphic Being, and remaining on a Windy City vibe with the following deep house jam 'Changes'. Over on the flip, Neapolitan Alfonso Bottone aka Wearing Shoes really delivers the goods on his absolutely spiritual 'Amor Divino' followed by the soulful mood music of 'Make It Better'.

7th Power Of Dance (Monchan Luv A dub mix) (6:24)
Review: We're not sure what the first six are but the 7th Power of Dance is a strong one, if this EP from Chachi Romero is anything to go by on the Japanese-US label Dailysession. It kicks off with the majestic original - a future Body & Soul classic, surely, with its funky guitar riffs, gloriously spiritual chords and jazzy keys all topped off with a properly steamy vocal. After that comes a series of versions starting with a Pablo Cruz Midnight Drive mix that is more smooth and traditional in its deep house approach. Monchan 90's Saturday Night In Village mix is all about the funky riffs and soft focus bells that glow bright and then his Monchan Luv A dub mix brings jumped percussion and extra layers of drums.
