House Girl (Serge & Tyrell edit)
Review: "House Girl" is a very obscure house track by Rodney Bakerr (aka Mystic). Released almost 20 years ago, it has a classic house bassline and amazing 303. This Clone Classic Cuts release comes with the original version, a Mike Dunn Mix and a new edit made for modern club use by Serge & Tyrell.

Review: Clone Classic Cuts once again bring the vintage dancefloor fire with this oft overlooked NYC vocal house gem from gospel crooner Joe Church. Produced by Yvonne Turner and Tommy Musto at Underworld Records in 1987, "Don't You Wanna Be Mine" is dripping with the soul and raw emotion that characterised all the best New York house from this era. Dub mix and acapella included for good measure! A serious must.

Review: Great hands in the air italo disco tune. Very obscure Italian act from the mid- 80s with a crazy song about being a plastic doll or something. As far as we know this was the only release Dharma did... Probably the plastic she was made of wasn't the strongest quality... Unfortunately that is because this release did definitely stand the test of time! Great record and we are happy to be able to offer this again!

Review: Back in 1988, Chicagoan DJ Joe Lewis delivered Lost In Tracks, an early acid onslaught that has since become a must-have for serious house collectors. Some 28 years on, it finally gets a reissue on Clone's Classic Cuts series. All six of Lewis's tracks from the original release are present (David Whiting's short percussion track, tagged on to the '88 12" as a bonus, has been omitted), and are here presented in newly re-mastered form. As you might expect, the material sits somewhere between sweaty jack-tracks and handclap-heavy box-jams, with "Just Hold Back The Feelin" - with its' sampled diva vocal lines and classic Chi-town bassline - and wild, ragging "One On One" amongst the many highlights. Given that original copies are "almost unobtainable", this should be on your shopping list.

Review: **REPRESS** Another album from the amazing mind of Heinrich Mueller (aka Gerald Donald). Originally released on DJ Hell's Gigolo label and apparently only licensed after Gerald crashed Hell's BMW and had to come up with a means of paying him back. All the tracks first appeared on the very obscure Dataphysix imprint from Detroit, with some releases only reaching the 500 copy mark. Now brought back to life for 2007, "Gesamtkunstwerk" could be one of the best electro albums ever made. Yes that's right, I said it...the best ever! This is almost as important for the techno generation as Kraftwerk's "Computerworld" and "Autobahn" were for many in the 80s. The tracks are all pretty simple, made up of only two or three analogue instruments each, but they seem to hold these timeless melodies that you can never tire of. Other moments are eerie, menacing and downright strange, but still pure genius. You know how a lot of the time when you buy a new record it becomes your favourite for a while, and then it starts to lose a little life? (Of course it's still good, but just not as fresh as the first couple of weeks when you listened to it on repeat). Well guess what? That doesn't happen with this record. I must have listened to some of the tracks on here over a 1000 times and they still send shivers down my spine. It's one of those special albums that just don't seem to age.

Review: Following the first installment of Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller, Clone delve back into Drexciya's archives for the follow-up. Review: Clone calls time on their Drexciya retrospective series with this fourth and final installment of the Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller. Commencing back at the tail end of 2011, the series has cast its net over the vast Drexciya archives in seemingly chronological fashion, with Clone enlisting Alden Tyrell to undertake extensive remastering of the material recorded by Gerald Donald and the sadly departed James Stinson. Just over a year since Journey III was issued, this final installment draws from a pool of Donald and Stinson's "rarest and most astonishing" tracks that covers the breath of their output during the 1990s. Drexciya completists will no doubt be most excited by the inclusion of five previously unreleased productions on the 16 track set - "Unknown Journey VI" to "Unknown Journey X".

Review: It's been a while since Clone last mined the undersea vaults of peerless Detroit electro/techno legends Drexciya. You'd expect the quality to dip a little on this fourth and final volume in the series, but Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller IV is every bit as essential as its predecessors. It's packed with far-sighted, next-level moments, from the bleak drum machine rhythms and gnarled electronics of "Hydro Cubes" and intense acid funk of "Aquatic Bata Particles", to the spine-tingling techno futurism of "Black Sea", the pure melodic joy of the rush-inducing "Sighting In The Abyss" and "Unknown Journey VII". A fitting finale to this excellent series from Clone.

Review: Few electronic acts could easily sustain three expansive 'best of' compilations, but then Detroit techno-electro fusionists Drexciya weren't your average electronic artists. In the space of little more than 12 EPs and a handful of albums, released in a ten-year burst between 1992 and 2002, James Stinson and Gerald Donald did more to push electronic music forwards than many of their Motor City peers. This third retrospective in Clone's excellent Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller series expands on the first two volumes, swimming between atmospheric IDM ("Aqua Worm Hole", "Vampire Island"), balls-deep techno workouts ("Nautilus", "Intensified Magnetron") and shimmering future electro (the futuristic Kraftwerk vibes of "Aquabahn").

Review: Last year's excellent Drexciya retrospective, Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller, was rightly heralded as a must-buy for anyone with even the smallest interest in the history of underground dance music. This second volume offers more of the same, conclusively proving - though few would argue otherwise - that Drexciya remain one of the most forthright, intriguing and forward-thinking acts ever to emerge from Detroit. The material here largely centres around their own peculiar take on proper electro, from the liquid synths and bouncing grooves of "Anti Vapour Waves" and "Journey Home", to the excitable, steel-hard rhythms and naked funk of "Positron Island".

Review: One of the best ever house records. Yes that is a big word...best house record ever. But for us this is definitely one of the best house releases ever. Originally released on Underground Records from Chicago, we managed to get the rights for this classic. 4 tracks of vocal acid house, with such power and energy and totally rocking. Can you imagine what happened when we heard these tracks for the first time 15 years ago?? We couldn't stop jumping around. This was completely from another world. Acid was music from another planet and Mike Dunn was an alien who came with irresistible beats and basslines. Mike Dunn and Tyree Cooper also wrote the lyrics which are still relevant for everybody who has some hassle with relationships now and then (isn't that all of us ;-). This is all about the basics of good innovative music. Essential!

Review: Since its initial release on Warp Records in 1995, the Elecktroids sole album has become one of the most sought-after electro sets around, with original vinyl copies changing hands for vast sums online. This is with good reason, of course: not only is "Elektroworld" a brilliant album, but also the (un-credited) work of the late, great Drexciya member James Stimson. The set itself is a tribute to Kraftwerk, with Stimson and his mysterious associates delivering ear-catching blends of punchy, "Computerworld" style electro beats, funky basslines, spacey sounds, ear-catching melodies and, on some of the eleven tracks, vocals. It's much more "pop" than your average Drexciya-related project - in terms of its' richness, warmth and accessibility, at least - but still weighty enough to sound suitably heavy on club soundsystems.

Review: Two absolutely amazing Chicago house classics produced by the masters of the masters... and out of print since 1987 (almost 20 years!!!). House To House (featuring Kim Mazelle) is actually Marshall Jefferson with one of the greatest tracks he ever made! A deep driving vocal house track that couldn't be better. The soulful vocals are performed by a young Kim Mazelle and make you shiver!! On the flip there is another masterpiece by no one else then Farley Jackmaster Funk (joined by Reggie The Movemaker). He produced a jacking house track for Reggie (but we are not really sure if this Reggie really exists). This track still creates a stir on the dance floors and makes the hands go in the air when the bassline kicks in! A piece of forgotten music history. Must have!

Review: For an all too brief period between 1991 and 1994, Jovonn's Brooklyn-based Goldtones imprint was a shining light for a particularly positive brand of underground US house. Musically expansive but focused on the dancefloor, many of the label's releases occupied the middle ground between Nu Groove style New York deep house (think Bobby Konders and the Burrell Brothers, in particular) and the kind of shuffling, organ and synth vibraphone-laden material popular with acolytes of New Jersey legend Tony Humphries. This surprise retrospective on Clone Classic Cuts showcases many of Jovonn's productions for the imprint, joining the dots between the supple grooves and heady melodies of "Flutes (185th Street Mix)", and the intense percussion and tribal yelps of "Back To House (Jovonn's Classic Goldhouse Mix)".

D'Rail
Review: A big forgotten Chicago club hit from 1984! A pre-house release from Knight Action which came out at the very beginning of electronic dance music. Before house was house, before techno was born and when club music was just called disco. "Single Girl" was a big hit in Chicago clubs like the Music Box and was played by Ron Hardy and all the Hotmix 5 guys (Farley, Mickey Oliver etc.) and its still a big collectors item. Made with the first electronic instruments and without any pretensions - just made for the fun of making music. "D-Rail" is one of the very first steps to jacking house music. Another (almost) forgotten piece of the dance music legacy!

Review: Some two years on from the second instalment of Clone's killer series of Unit Moebius reissues via Classic Cuts, Part 3 of The Golden Years arrives and it's been totally worth the wait, not least for the inclusion of The Hague icons' seminal slice of subaqueous techno "Dolfinarium". Alongside this, Clone present three further excursions into raw, emotive techno with the final "Monoman" a particularly gleeful acid dripper. The realisation that these four tracks still sound crucial several generations on demonstrates the quartet's importance in electronic music. Finally, any criticism for Clone belatedly rounding off this series of I-F and Co would be seriously tempered by the sheer amount of quality music that emanates from the lowlands based emporium.
