Mind Control EP

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Mind Control (7:45)
  2. The New Dominion (6:56)
  3. Wide Open (7:45)
  4. Fatal Crusher (6:38)
Review: Colin Chiddle's Art Of Dark is back with more tripped-out retro techno, following up some great releases of late by the likes of Alec Falconer, Z@P and Santiago Uribe. The 'Mind Control' EP comes from Berlin-based Matthias, who runs Superluminal and co-runs Foundation with Modex. On the A side, we have the bleepy and futuristic banger that is the title track, followed by the strobe-lit energy flash of "The New Dominion". On the flip, the party vibes continue with "Wide Open" hailing 'all aboard the Hoppetosse!', while the acid flashback of "Fatal Crusher" will surely help to get on your tunnel vision. All killer, no filler - tip!

Techno
  1. Omar - "Zum" (6:06)
  2. Omar - "Adheuz" (7:12)
  3. Unai Trotti - "Thisorden" (6:08)
  4. Unai Trotti - "Pirupipi" (7:35)
Review: For the second outing on their offshoot label, London's Art of Dark crew has handed over the reigns to Uruguayan artist Omar Chibbaro (best known for his outings on CABARET and My Own Jupiter) and Cartulis Music co-owner Unai Trotti. Chibbaro handles side A, first offering up the rubbery bleep techno/Drexciyan electro-funk fusion of "Zum" before slamming down the blackened beats, hypnotizing bleeps and twisted acid lines of "Adheuz". Over on side B, Trotti offers two tasty peak-time workouts: the snappy, bleeping retro-futurism of "Thisorden" and "Pirupipi", where deep space chords and angular electronics cluster around a weighty, forthright groove.

Techno
  1. Santiago Uribe - "This Is Only A Test" (6:07)
  2. Santiago Uribe - "Momento Tenso" (5:37)
  3. Z@p - "Volca Routes" (6:20)
  4. Z@p - "Phenomenology" (7:50)
Review: This new one on Art Of Dark comes from two sureshot producers with oodles of idiosyncratic flair folded into their sound. First up is Santiago Uribe, whose "This Is Only A Test" works some cheeky samples in amongst a massive rubbery bassline and some acidic stabs. "Momento Tenso" switches things up with a crisp break and some more melancholic synth work. Z@p then presides over the B side with some freaky, sharply executed techno spiced up with a melodic twist. "Phenomenology" brings the kind of weirdo groove Z@p is best known for, all wonky bleep lines and erratic synth wriggles over a solid rhythm section.
