Review: You can always count on Public Possession to put out quirky, ear-catching gear for switched on dancefloors. On this occasion they've tapped up Wolfram and Josh Ludlow for this tongue-in-cheek acidic stomper which is roundly defined by the robotic narrator demanding we go back and forth to the club ad infinitum. It's cheeky and a tonne of fun, with a deadly 707-toting beat to back it up, presented in snappy edited form on the A-side and stretched out in extended form on the flip. If you want to get the party popping off with a glint in your eye, this is just the record you need.

Review: Fresh from an appearance on the excellent Rush Hour Amsterdam All Stars compilation, Simon Weiss breaks free with a debut solo release on the Hometaping imprint. A label that has provided a boost to many a producer's profile, Weiss is likely to countenance a few remix and booking requests off the back of the sumptuous sounds here, not least the title track "Yesterday Is Around". Very much influenced by the likes of Parrish and Dixon Jnr, there is an undeniable warmth to the expertly looped strings and delicate vocal sample that will turn many an ear, whilst the rhythms and textures are delightfully fuzzy. Alongside it Weiss flexes his percussive muscle on the expertly poised beatdown of "Bird Movement" which is notable for some excellent pitch shifted melodics, whilst "Body Signature" is delightfully sloppy. Best Hometaping release in ages!

Review: Waage is a firm favourite amongst dub techno fans. The Icelandic producer has long been turning out icy and atmospheric rollers for the heads and here he works alongside a fresh name, Quantal, who is sure to go on to big things. Here they land on Thule Records, a legendary label in its own right with roots going back to 1995. They kick off with the textured dub of 'WQ1' which has glitchy sounds paying over the rolling drums. 'WQ2' is much more smooth and streamlined, with an underwater current that sweeps you off your feet, then 'WQ3' leans into the wind with hypnotic techno drums and vamping chords that melt the mind. Last of all comes 'WQ4', a timeless dub with infinite horizons and the most frictionless drum loops.

Review: Chiwax are back this week with a more than welcome reissue of Wax Fruit's one-and-only release Whispers from 1994. This was one of many aliases sussed by Toronto-based producer Ron Allen, who some of you may know for his seminal work as one half of Psyance (with Hayden Andre Brown) who released on Plus 8, as well as his work under the names Aztech, The Apache Project and The R.A.S.E. The late night mood music of the title track is a true zeitgeist from the period in which it was released, while the looped-up disco sampling deep house of 'Just A Party' or 'Mindgames' over on the flip were equally as trendsetting as anything fellow Torontonians like Nick Holder or DJ Sneak were making at the time.

Review: All we really know about this one is that The Wolf is an artist based in Berlin. He has started his own label here to serve up his latest studio concoctions and this first one is all about slamming minimal cuts. All of them are untitled in true underground minimal fashion, of course and the first one pairs rickety lines with under-lapping bass and dreamy chords. The second one heads to the stars with Detroit style pads smeared about the mix over punchy but stripped back rubber kick patterns and last of all is a more thumping deep house groove with more liquid pad work and a sense of serenity.

Review: On the latest missive from his energy packed Power House imprint, Rene Pawlowitz - he of Shed and Head High fame - has chosen to showcase tracks from two of his lesser-celebrated alter egos, WK7 and Zigg Gonsalezz. As befits the peak-time ready, party-starting nature of the label, A-side 'Wait' offers an addictive blend of bustling, beefed-up house drums, glassy-eyed female vocal samples and sleazy, rave-igniting riffs. Over on the flip we get two distinctive takes on 'Sunday': the classic New Jersey garage meets Nu Groove style deep house warmth of the '3pm' version, and a stomping late night revision (entitled 'Work It') that peppers a chunky, extra-percussive beat with tight electric piano stabs and booming bass.

Review: The mysterious Waffles series, rumoured to be the work of Belgian legends Soulwax, has been one of the success stories of 2016. It has succeeded, in part, due to the eccentricity of much of the source material. There's plenty more madness on this fifth volume in the series, with A-side "Aqua Dolphin", offering a skewed fusion of razor-sharp, acid-style electronics, mind-altering new beat rhythms, and plenty of weird, chopped-up vocal samples. Flipside "Computer" boasts similarly psychedelic acid lines, alongside gravelly, end-of-days vocals, synth riffs seemingly inspired by the original 1988 version of The KLF's "What Time Is Love", and a head nodding, toe-tapping breakbeat rhythm. We have no idea what the original source material is, but it's a deliciously weird and wonderful re-edit.

Review: Ten years deep, Visionquest continues to be a potent force in field of minimal tech house thanks to releases like these. The latest split release from their VQ X series opens up with the spellbinding, micro dub meditation 'The Serpent & The Jaguar' from Deadbeat before swerving into the equally tender folds of Triptease & Yonatan Levi's 'Amniotic Jive'. Tuccillo opens up the B-side with some crisp, immersive broken beat rhythmic incantations, and then Wareika round the record off with a smouldering piece of hi-tech jazz from the outer rim. This is subtle, elegant minimal at its warmest, make no mistake.

Review: Oh how we all miss Andrew Weatherall. Not only was he a masterful DJ who could lock you down for hours on end, but he was a producer who could bring his own brand of sleaze and filth to disco and techno. On top of that, he was always a voice of reason, of humour, of realism. Sad as his passing is, it's nice to hear from him again via this previously unreleased track on DISDAT. 'YW Eleven' is all distorted synths riffs alternated with beautiful chord progressions that make for another standout bit of apoco-disco. On the flip, Rhadoo reworks it into a superb bit of snaking and brain melting minimal tech house.

Review: Parisian producer Jeff The Fool often leans towards the jazzy deep house sounds his city has long been known for. Here he links with Wilt for a new EP on The Chaud that does just that. 'I Said No' is a heavy house cut steeped in US traditional styles, with a libidinous vocal and fat bassline. 'Body & Soul' is a well swung deep house groove with a carefree attitude and 'Vol 334' has more lively drum programming but still a nice warm, scuffed up and intimate feel. The don DJ Deep remixes 'I Said No' into yet another lovely deep house grove.

Review: Church co-head Seb Wildblood presents his latest release titled 'Vitara 3000', boasting three masterfully crafted tracks that effortlessly blend a nostalgic sound with broken beats and dreamy melodies. Wills has been building up a name for himself across a slew of releases on labels like Holding Hands, 2X, Lemak and Subsequent, and his sound is accomplished and engaging on this fresh batch of tracks. 'Waiting For Rob' is a warm and shimmering track that splits the difference between sharp tech house and fluttering melodic electro, which Tim Schlockermann then remixes into a low slung, broken beat mood that leans on the bass. 'Vimto Paradox' takes things into moodier territory with a broad sweep of keys spelling out an eerie mood around a minimal beat. 'Cap Snatching' finishes the EP off with a more overtly electro construction marked out with snappy acid flecks and a crisp 808-esque beat.

Review: John Wilcox has been slowly disseminating crusty hardware jams for some six years now, in which time he's appeared as Cyclonix on Horn Wax, and now he nips over to Tusk Wax for more robo-charged antics in the curious corner of grubby, electro tinged house music the label orbits. "Telemachus" is a dreamy opening number that keeps the spook level up to maximum and the reverb voluminous throughout. "Synth Run" has a bit more bite, but not at the expense of atmosphere. Whatever/Whatever get hold of "Telemachus" and strip it down to a sparse skeleton of a track, and then Wilcox rounds the record off with the steppy ambient excursion "Ronin Love (dub)".

Review: Toolroom is now one of those house labels that sits at the top table wit the likes of Nervous and Spinnin. It has turned out big room sounds for many years and made label founder Mark Knight a star in the process. Here he has put together an eighth volume of the sampler series that showcases what the imprint is all about and his own track with Green Velvet and Rene Amesz is a highlight with its dark, sleazy grind and tech house funk sure to lock in the club. Elsewhere Danny Howard offers up an extended re-edit of Adrian Hour's 'Hear What They Hear' and on the flip is the bulky 'Out of My Head' by Watermat & Raumakustik and a tense trip courtesy of Deeper Purpose's 'The Stutter.'

Review: Toolroom sits at the top of the tree when it comes to big room house music. Mark Knight's label has mastered the art of maximal sounds and this eighth volume of the Tooroom Sampler series is another one that will do plenty of damage. Essel's 'Sweat' is a rigid tech cut with stiff synths and libidinous vocals, then Shiba San and Ayarez get direct with shuffling tech house cut 'Twist It' complete with big skewed synths. Friend Within's 'Pilka' keeps the energy levels high with fizzing synth loops over textured drums and a fat bassline. Maur x Westend and Cami Bear close out with some brighter melodies to get hands in the air on 'Over.'

Review: Westcoast Goddess is an enigmatic producer who betrays a love of 90s house and tech and golden-era r&b on this fresh new EP for Intrinsic Rhythm. It is a perfect mix of quality electronic production and good-time vibes: the loose, tumbling drums of 'Fallin' come with wispy synths and heart-aching vocal samples. 'Time 4 Change' is more deep and meditative and 'Change Is Comin'' picks up the pace with some snappier drums and snares under a gospel-style vocal chorus. Review: When it was initially released nine years ago, The Stalwart marked Detroit house legend Rick Wade's first appearance on Rawax offshoot Housewax. Wade's standards are high - he seems incapable of releasing mediocre music - but even then, The Stalwart is extra special. For proof, check out the classic deep house warmth and shuffle of opener 'The Hawk' - all languid electric piano motifs, sturdy drums, spacey stabs and toasty bass - and the marginally funkier and more spacey sounding lusciousness of 'Dream Flute'. Elsewhere, 'Just Want' sees Wade smother a hypnotic, analogue-rich groove in sustained chords, drowsy Rhodes licks and yearning trumpet solos, while 'Proving Ground' achieves a perfect balance between immersive deepness and driving dancefloor energy.

Review: Philly native Josh Wink is still as relevant as ever, partially because he didn't just spend the decades after his breakout hit 'Higher State of Consciousness' trying to recreate the same thing. He has landed on several well-regarded labels, though mostly on his own 30-year-old Ovum, and here heads to House of eFunk for a new EP that taps into his nostalgic feelings of house from years gone by. Review: Entrepot Records label boss UC Beatz is back on his home imprint with a fine new joint EP. For this one he links up with Wldbtch for a record that was first mooted a decade ago. Back in 2020 the pari finally hooked up in the studio and cooked up a mix of influences and material including French spoken words, Turkish vocals, big bass and Latin flutes. They are fresh sources for a house record and lend the EP a unique vibe over heavy beats, more loopy French tough grooves and in the case of 'Lillio Scratch' twitchy tech house.

Review: Todmorden quartet Working Men's Club have long held a soft spot for Sheffield, with much of their music being recorded in the city under the watchful eye of producer Ross Orton. It makes perfect sense, then, that they'd commission an EP full of reworks from Steel City producers. Toddla T kicks things off in fine fashion via a rave-igniting, dancehall-tinged SoYo bass rendition of 'Money Is Mine' tailor-made for the city's Kabal parties, while bleep & bass godfathers Forgemasters deliver a drowsy, atmospheric, post-industrial deep house tweak of 'The Last One'. Elsewhere, Diseasa opts for an angular, industrial electro flex on a fuzzy re-wire of 'Rapture', Orton squelches his way through a tough-as-steel acid house remake of 'Plays', and Charla Green gives 'Fear Fear' a dystopian post-jungle makeover.

Review: Mitch Wellings is the founder of Space Tours Records and The Sound Kitchen studios and he's been impressing us with his 12"s for a while so we're glad to hear an album from him. This new conceptual release says it was "created to honour the brave passengers on the first ever Space Tours flight." It's a cosmic trip made using "real interview footage" and has some very lovely artwork to help heighten the illusion. The music itself is futurities and melodic tech with wispy electro rhythms and celestial chord sequences. It's an expansive mind movie, a deeply immersive and escapist soundtrack that makes great use of the long-player format while also offering up plenty of great moments for the dance floor. A real triumph.

Review: Jayson Wynters is one of the UK's more underrated producers. He hails from Birmingham, has mastered Kung Fu and is no slouch in the studio. This outing on Spanish label Pulp - written back during the lockdowns - is one of his best yet - a deep look into the cosmos, with star-gazing synth lines and analogue drum sounds that are frayed around the edges. Misty-eyed chords define many tracks, with the loosely jumbled drums and rasping basslines all interlocking perfectly. 'Corns Funk' has twanging bass riffs that remind of Prince, while 'Night Drive' is a Dam-Funk style late-night street cruise during sunset.
