Tomorrow People (main mix) (8:02)
Tomorrow People (bonus beats) (2:56)
Tomorrow People (Teflon dub) (6:29)
Tomorrow People (6:34)
Review: Second time around for Teflon Dons' legendary 1999 collaboration with soul sensation Gregory Porter, who at the time was a virtually unknown artist whose greatest commercial successes were still some years off. The EP begins with the 'Main Mix', a blend of Kenny Dope style broken deep house beats, sumptuous chords, garage-house bass and slick lead vocals from Porter, before we're treated to a 'Bonus Beats' version that wraps spacey synths around the Dons' hot-stepping drums. Over on the flip, the Teflon Dons reach for weighty sub bass, reverb-laden vocal snippets and oceans-deep chords on a superb dancefloor dub, before the 'Original Mix' - a warmer, sunnier and more soulful vocal deep house excursion - rounds off a must-have reissue.

FV555 (Arkanoid Dusk mix) (6:33)
FV555 (Suenotechno reprise) (2:43)
Review: European Carryall hits release number five with more superbly stylish techno. This time out they get a call from boss man Mr Telephones, who markedly ups the pace compared to his usual antics across a couple of fierce new weapons. 'Blue-Tek' (Raw Mix) opens up and despite the name is a mega slick and smooth, high speed fusion of Detroit and Balearic styles into something utterly breezy and compelling. The Dream Reprise is a little more airy and then 'FV555' (Arkanoid Dusk mix) gets more deep and heady on the flip. A Suenotechno reprise then heads off into the cosmos for late night dreaming.

Eliphino - "It's Hard To Say" (5:52)
Review: Charitable acts carry more significance than ever right now, and Needs are on hand with another instalment in their brilliantly curated series to give something to those in need while also presenting some wonderful, exclusive music. This one leads in with a truly uplifting blast of sunshine from Telephones before dropping into the edgy, swinging tech-funk of Ciel's "Faye Wong Plays The Strings". Al Wootton is on point with another of his fresh and dynamic twists on the soundsystem blueprint, with a dubby, percussive vibe that should appeal to those who miss proper dubstep. Eliphino completes the set with a squashed and feverish garage thumper that sounds like it has an iconic vocalist chopped up somewhere in the signal chain.

Review: Edinburgh resident Telfort hits release number five on his own label here with a classy sense of party. 'Phantasmata' kicks off with some brilliantly squelchy bass and icy hi hats over a big house beat. 'Instruction Through Metaphor' manages to be both superbly musical with its jazzy key Rolland dancing chords, but also well driven by the rough edged house beats below. This most colourful and vivid of EPs is rounded out by possibly the best of the lot - 'Basic Trajectory' which again marries busy keys and chords with effortlessly slinky house drums and a fat bassline. perfect.

Watchmen (4:17)

Person To Person (4:47)
Review: Berlin record label System Error's sub-label Fresh Tunez lays out the mission statement for its newest FRESH series with the vinyl debut of Parisian producer and DJ Paul Tellimerg with a fresh four-track EP. The opening track 'Alpha Synthesis' is a midtempo tech house groove that evokes the sound of his acid techno contemporaries like Manami's liquid 'Lizard Den'. The retro-futuristic progressions are dualistic on the two sides, Side A being the forward-thinking tech-raver counterpart to Side B's more retro-feeling tunes. 'Watchmen' has proven itself as a fan favourite, the industrial influence giving it a dark undertone that feels right at home in a dark club with its thumping technological rhythms. In stark contrast, 'Person to Person' is a more zany vocal number featuring some tongue-in-cheek percussion stings (think Dragon Ball Z aligned), the vocal itself being framed as The B-52's more reserved sibling.

The Tetrah (8:40)
Review: Temple Musiq kicks off with a new EP from label head Temple. The opener 'Who You Are' has already achieved anthem status thanks to getting plenty of plays during Temple's own sets while he has opened for the likes of Rick Wilhite, Osunlande and Trus'me. It's got a nice drum machine drive, subtle acid lines and hooky choruses. The Prins Thomas remix is as you would expect a little more suspensory and cosmic, while Temple's 'Wait For Love' brings you back down to the dancefloor with a taught, twisted, tech house rawness that is offset by a sultry sax line. 'The Tetrah' then winds down with more elastic and dubbed-out, slow-motion house sounds.

It begins with the celestial acid of 'Spell' followed by the deep and tunnelling chugger 'Enter The Temple' (Outstanding Invoice mix). Be Free (Dimitri From Paris remix - dubstrumental) (7:28)
Review: Dimitri From Paris has previously reworked classic Ten City cuts - most notably 'That's The Way Love Is' - so it's fitting that he's been given the chance to rework one of the legendary house outfit's most recent tunes, 2021 revivalist disco gem 'Be Free'. His extended A-side remix is terrific: a hybrid jazz-funk/disco/boogie-soul gem that builds brilliantly via layered acapella and groove-focused sections before introducing the vocals and reaching for the lasers. Over on the flip, the French veteran delivers a 'Dubstrumental' take that brilliantly showcases different aspects of the track's superb, organic instrumentation whilst keeping both eyes firmly on the dancefloor. A contemporary disco classic in waiting!

Move That Body (with Cevin Fisher - instrumental) (6:52)
Review: A year after it slipped out digitally, Danny Tenaglia's superb 'The Brooklyn Gypsy' finally lands on wax. It's perhaps deeper and groovier than some of his vintage productions, which tended towards the muscular, dark and percussive, but the bassline is fabulous, the Frankie Knuckles-esque chords and textures inspired, and the piano solo that stretches out across the track nothing short of superb. Over on the flip, Tenaglia joins forces with fellow house legend Cevin Fisher on vocal and instrumental takes of 'Move Your Body', a more energetic, thickset and piano-powered affair that sits somewhere between the sun-soaked A-side and the long, Twilo-inspired workouts that marked out Tenaglia's turn-of-the-millennium creative peak.

First to go is a former hip-hop beatsmith turned deep house don Byron The Aquarius. He smooths out the grooves of 'Bamboo Fighter' and layers in dusty chords and diffuse melodies that are heartwarming and hypnotic. 'Takusambient' then gets a fine treatment from Alex Attias who brings bubbly chords and bass to a lively deep house cut that is full of subtle party vibes.

Box Jam (4:45)
Review: Hardcore followers of deep and jazzy house might well know the name Terry Tester already. He has dropped some fine cuts on labels like Brownswood and BBE and now he cooks up some gritty but glorious new grooves for Creak Inc. His loose-limbed rhythmic style is laid bare on the opener 'Walkin' while 'Wansel' brings some bright and jazzy melodies that light up the ramshackle drums with future soul. Things get nice and trippy on 'Chance' which is wried up with pixelated stabs, acid mumbles and off-grid hits. The best of the lot might be the final cut 'Seven' with its seductive female vocal coos, wispy pads and Detroit drums. Innovative stuff for sure.

Review: Terry Tester hails from Copenhagen and has already impressed with some Detroit-inspired house heat on labels like Brownswood and BBE. He has also dropped a fine solo EP on Creak Inc this month but at the same time the label has enlisted two artists to remix two of his tunes on this new 12". Up first is 'Grace' (Buscrates Reflip), an early evening and boogie-fried deep house cut with hip-swinging claps and conversational leads that bring the funk. The B-side is more business-like - 'Space Million' (Ian Wallace remix) has dev, dynamic drums and heart-aching vocal hooks for late-night dancing.

Tee's Groove (4:07)
Review: A warm welcome back to TNT Records, a Freeze Records offshoot initially established in 1992 as a vehicle for boss Todd Terry's 'Unreleased' series EPs. Like that series, 'Cuttin' Grooves' is packed with club-focused box jams from the producer's archives, with most - if not all - of the material on show being recorded in the late '80s and early '90s. Opener 'Don't Stop' is a bustling, freestyle-meets-hip-house workout rich in cyber-kinetic synth stabs, bubbly bass and tight scratches, while 'Jammin' Just Understand' is reminiscent of the NYC legend's hip-house-era late '80s club cuts. 'Feel It (Instrumental Mix)' is a sub-heavy workout that sounds like it was inspired by early UK bleep and bass records, 'Tee's In Feel' is a house re-shape of Donna Summer, and 'Tee's Groove' is the missing link between hip-house and early UK house classic 'Koro-Koro'.

Review: Cuttin' Grooves Vol. 2 is a tribute to the classic house sound of Todd Terry, one of the pioneers of the genre. The four tracks on this vinyl are all samples of his signature style: raw, funky and energetic. The dub mix of 'Happy' is a catchy and uplifting tune with a soulful vocal sample and a bouncy bassline. 'J.C. Damage' is a darker and harder track with a distorted synth and a hypnotic groove, while 'Jungle Pussy' is a tribal and percussive track with a wild and exotic vibe. Over on the flip, there's the classic 'Just Wanna Bang' which is a fun and playful number with a cheeky vocal sample and a funky guitar riff, while The L.D.F. Bang Edit adds some extra spice to the original with some crisp drums and effects. This vinyl is a must-have for any house lover who appreciates the legacy of this New York City legend.

Leap In Space (7:11)
Review: To date the vinyl wing of Afterme have carried releases from the likes of Ki.Mi, Son Kota, Lorik and Suave amongst others, and now they welcome Teskera with a set of sublime minimal house workouts which bring personality and flair to the genre. 'It's Not Here' toys with what sounds like a theremin - an incongruous element which stands out amongst the swirl of smoky synths and slinky drums. Superlounge then remix the track and make it into a smoother, warmer confection for precisely the kind of executive suite they've dedicated their project to. 'Redemption' features a reflective sound palette replete with bell chimes and melancholic vocal-like treatments, and 'Leap In Space' rounds the record out in a brooding, detailed excursion into minimal electro.

Review: Singapore label Darker Than Wax have been doing a sterling job in carrying crucial, headsy cuts from contemporary funk artists, and now they're providing a handy overview for all those curious about the past, present and future vibe of the label. Teymori brings a woozy mood to "Running For You" with some sweet and sassy leads and a stunning vocal turn from Jace XL. Malik Hendricks brings a dreamy kind of jack to "Umore", while Ricky Razu ups the house pressure with a pumping beat fit for the likes of Chez Damier on "Soul Slide". Kaye gets heavier and freakier with the bass on tribal roller "So Much Soul", and then Halal Soul finishes the EP off with the subtly red-lining thrust and swing of "Contusion".

Freerange label boss and deep house don Jimpster opens up with a shimming and warm remix of Thakzin & Ray T's 'Don't Let Me See.' Review: Theoretical Speed is an alias of Ryan Crosson, the long time Detroit underground mainstay who runs this label and has always operated at the vanguard. This EP again finds him joining the dots between Detroit and Berlin with opener 'Take Me to Bed and Mix Me Forever' featuring a trademark Visionquest vocal with deep roaming sub bass. 'Dusty Rugs' is rich with cascading keys played by John Camp as the drums bump and hints of Thomas Melchior shine through. Review: Thomas Xu tends not to release much music, but when he does it tends to be musically rich, rhythmically complex and very, very good. That's certainly the case with "Places In Time", his second EP on Steady Flight following an inspired 2017 debut on Theo Parrish's Sound Signature imprint. There's much to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the heavily analogue, synthesizer-powered, intergalactic jazz-funk looseness of "Easin", and the slipped 21st century instrumental space-jazz of "Tired A Being Tired (What Are We Here For)", to the densely layered, piano-driven ambience of "Promise 2", and the hard-to-pigeonhole eccentricity of closing cut "Let's Go See Roy".

Here he launches his own label, Steady Flight Circle, via a first full solo EP of his own. It's really rather good, with Xu combining spacey jazz-funk synths, emotive chord progressions and rich musicality with beats that tend towards the jazzy, broken and off-kilter. All three tracks feel loose, warm and immediate, as if they were jammed-out in one take. While they clearly weren't, this improvised feel is hugely endearing. From the sounds of "Different Widsoms", Xu will clearly be a producer to watch in the months and years ahead.

The respected local DJ and some time Back to basics regular has had outings on the likes of Butter Side Up and aways brings the electronic funk, as he does again on 'Middle of The Road.' Review: There was a time when Atlantic was one of the foremost house labels in the game, and that was back in the 1990s when artists like Kerri Chandler were defining the deep New Jersey sound. If you didn't know, Three Generations is actually one of his aliases - one that only ever spawned one tune, and this is it, featuring Chevell. It's an absolute classic of the time with the garage swing, the emotive vocals and the silky synths over a nice taught bassline as well as the sound of a needle scratching across the track which was to convey the pain Kerri was feeling at the time after the murder of his then-girlfriend. A true bit of house history.

The Diaper Bag EP features four timeless house cuts, all capturing Parker's idiosyncratic style. From the uplifting dancefloor energy of 'Tighten Up Your Thang', not to mention that life-affirming chord progression on the emotive power of 'Act A Fool Tonight'. On the flip, we have the EP's most poignant moment, where he produced the track 'A Song 4 Tatiana' for his daughter. Review: As part of PIAS' 40th Anniversary celebratory series - which compiles reissues by the arch-label's proudest artist-retainers - comes this TIGA EP. A fixture of both the label and the Montreal rave scene at large, TIGA is also a renowned electro-house remix artist and afterparty promoter and owing to that legacy, he's already had his enduring track 'Mind Dimension 2' released via the series. So we're more than excited to hear his 2004 anthem 'Pleasure From The Bass', and seven others, resuscitated for another edition, most of these tracks came from TIGA's Sexor era, an LP which came to be seen as one of the foremost reference points for electronic music at the time.

Waiheke (Tiger Sunset rework) (6:43)
Review: Tigerbalm is the solo project from Nicola Rose Robinson, and it has impressed over the last couple of years with music on Peng and Ubiquity. Now she returns to the latter for a new single packed with great remixes. The original is 'Waiheke', a loose-limbed rhythm with bubbling drums, rich percussion and tribal vocals that will work any dance floor into a lather. The Alma Negra remix brings more funky bass, while the Bananas For Breakfast remix slows things down to a languid crawl. On the flip, the Demi Riquisimo mix is more minimal and deep and Quartz and Tiger Sunset then offer two different perspectives to close this vital EP.

Review: London's Rose Robinson aka Tigerbalm delivers a stunning debut EP on New York's Razor-N-Tape, showcasing her versatile and soulful sound. 'Nina' arrives in three different mixes, all infused with her smooth vocals and lush keys. The original is a low slung affair (feat Farafi) that provides ample mood music, while the thumping Elado mix sets its eyes on the main room, and finally the Voilaaa remix is definitely our favourite - which infuses Afro boogie elements for one seriously infectious version.

Lost Language (7:57)
Keep The Peace (7:08)
Fable (7:05)
Review: Rawax lock in a new one from TIJN that adds three more functional but fresh house tracks to their already estimable catalogue. This one kicks off with the silky and seductive, bendy and elastic neon synth sounds of 'Lost Language' which has rock solid drums bringing the drive. 'Keep The Peace' is a fresh one with upright drums that bring a militant march as molten melodic colours are dripped in from above. 'Fable' then spins out on trippy synths and wispy motifs that are perfect for the more intimate afters out there.

20 Years Of Phonica: Sampler 4
Cat: PHONICA 038. Rel: 29 Nov 23
Tim Reaper & Comfort Zone - "Subterranean" (5:25)
Toby Tobias - "On My Mind" (Freak mix) (5:27)
Shy One - "Uncle G" (4:33)
Kieran Jandu - "From My Soul" (6:15)
Review: London wax institution Phonica continue to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a label in deep-digging, highly eclectic style. This fourth sampler continues to hint at a much larger VA album with a wide range of sounds across the techno/jungle axis. Tim Reaper & Comfort Zone get us in the groove with the savage drum funk of 'Subterranean' while Toby Tobias eases down the tempo and takes us to some mystical places on the Balearic-on-Mars funk of 'On My Mind'. Meanwhile on the flip Shy One goes full-on Co-Op / Bugz vibes with its sparse broken beat jazziness while Orphic's Kieran Jandu closes the EP on a bumping early 90s-inspired techno roll-out. Happy anniversary Phonica.
