Byron The Aquarius - "Sun Gods" (5:37)
Review: People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. This one is only for the real heads.

Meet Me Halfway (feat Brothers’ Vibe) (6:03)
Come On Now (6:20)
Review: B2 Recordings rolls out more of its quality-assured deep house here with Label head Bengoa stepping up next for a new three-tracker that comes with featured guests Kristina Berger and Brothers' Vibe. 'Idyot' kicks off with deep and pulsing synths and clacking hits that bring an early Chicago vibe next to the libidinous and erotic vocals which really tease. 'Meet Me Halfway' sinks into a super silky groove that is deep as you like and driven by stylish drum hits under a muttered vocal. 'Come On Now' then sinks into a more acid-laced atmosphere with sustained chords keeping you on edge next to loose and jumbled percussion. It's a stylistically diverse EP, this one.

Review: Rebirth kicks off its 2024 with a remix EP that serves as "a tribute to the Brescian music scene in its many facets and declinations." The full original project is a complete 12-track album that brings together many different sounds, scenes and generations, with the best bits now assembled on this new 12". The revered deep house master Fred P opens up with some texture spiritual synth depths, K-Lone brings some nice house swing to his version of 'Paline' and edit maestro Rahsaan also keeps it paired back and late night on his soulful take on 'Scent Of An Old Life'. A great reimagining of some moving musical adventures, then.

Review: Short Attention has more than grabbed ours with its first two EPs and this third one keeps up that good early form. It's a heavy-hitting mix of pivotal house talents starting off with prolific Windy City player Boo Williams. The big man's 'Transformation' is a smooth and chord-laced house roller that has a more reflective vibe than his usual party-starting offerings. Atlanta don Kai Alce's 'Love Exists' is a heartfelt house romance then the long-time partnership of Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana douse us in star-gazing chords on 'Soul Expression' that leave you feeling refreshed. Meji Meji (Folamour remix) (4:27)
Sonayon (Disco dub) (5:11)
Review: Bosq and Kaleta's most recent single, an inspired Afro-disco two-tracker featuring 'Meji Meji' and 'Sonayon', has been given the remix treatment. On side A, Folamour successfully re-imagines 'Meji Meji' as a joyous, sun-bright slab of cheery deep house/colourful nu-disco fusion, wisely making the most of Kaleta's infectious vocals, the original disco bassline, and the pair's chirpy horns. Over on side B, Bosq takes over and delivers a delicious 'disco dub' of 'Sonayon'. A little more stripped-back and groove-based than the original nix with breakdowns and special effects aplenty, Bosq makes merry with horns, highlife guitars and more Afrobeat style bass guitar pressure.

Review: Heist Recordings' tenth anniversary celebrations are drawing to a close, but the Dutch label is not done with showcasing the dancefloor gold nestled in its bulging back catalogue. Here they offer up a second 'Heist Classics' EP featuring five more tried-and-tested treats originally released at different points over the last decade. On side A, Crackazat's rolling, summery and ultra-positive 'Alfa' is followed by the jazzy, musically detailed, disco-flecked and sun-splashed 'Espilon Girls' by Andy Hart and the re-born disco-funk shuffle of Makez's 'Different Planets'. Over on side B, Kassian's deep, gorgeous and lusciously loose-limbed '8th Movement' comes accompanied by Nachtbraker's highlife-sampling 'Hamdi', a blast of pure dancefloor joy.

Ventt & Keparys - "Saltwater" (8:40)
Review: This is the fourth compilation installment in Peace Symphonies' series that features multiple artists they are working with. Since starting up two years ago, this Moscow label is fast becoming one of the top avenues for house music in the country. DSF offers us 'Yes, Of Course' and 'Zorbas' for the A-side. The first one is a melodic builder that is equally beautiful as it is driving, giving us some soft trance vibes. The latter is a grooving techno jam that is spacey and ideal for stargazing on the dancefloor. For the second side, 'Ashwaganda' by Ventt & Keparys has a more tribal and African flavor to it. The EP closes out with the pair doing a fast-paced tech house gem in 'Saltwater', tinged with some superlative Balearic sounds.

Review: Sometime Wisdom Teeth and Idle Hands contributor K-Lone has been digging drums of late, so he's decided to gather a load of percussionists, record some rhythms and serve up a six-track selection of 'Drum Tools' for discerning DJs. The key cut is lead track 'Drumz', a fine combination of drum circle style rhythms, trippy effects and dreamy synth washes. Fittingly, this is given an even heavier, pitched-up edit courtesy of Leod to round off the EP. In between these two sweat-soaked peaks, K-Lone cycles through sub-bass-enhanced Latin drums ('Cinco', the infectious 'Timbales'), weighty and tribalistic rhythms ('Bombo'), and handclap-propelled percussive deepness (the deliciously dreamy 'Clapper').

State Of Play (7:28)
Review: London-based beat smith K15 is a UK answer to the likes of Kyle Hall - his house music is steeped in jazz, soul and funk. His drums are dusty and loose - and louche - and his moods are deeply meaningful. His latest EP is another case in point with three more sublime and seductive sounds. 'Still Devoted' is a downtempo cut with analogue drums and gorgeous female vocals soaring up top with the elegance of a church choir. 'State Of Play' has a fantastically cosmic outlook and a nimble bassline that rides its own ride as the synths soar and 'Time Reveals' then closes down with a more melancholic but no less beautiful vibe.

Ya Dig (Kaytronik Revision) (5:29)
Feeling Rite (8:17)
Review: For his latest trick, Karizma has decided to revisit 'Ya Dig', a killer cut from his 2013 album Wall Of Sound. Donning his Kaytronik guise, an alias often used for more tech-tinged (but no less soulful) productions, he delivers a remake rich in woozy, staccato synth sounds, lo-fi electronics, looped vocal snippets, flashes of soulfulness and beats as rubbery and righteous as you'd expect from the master of infectious rhythms. Over on the flip we get the previously unheard 'Feelin' Rite', where pal Osunlade's delay-laden vocals ride a crunchy, loose-limbed Afro-house beat and woozy, warming chords. It's the kind of track that you can get lost in, sonically, but is infectious and dancefloor-friendly enough to encourage proper heads-down dancing.

Transposed Sky (feat Paul Brenning) (5:34)
Review: Jonathan Kaspar returns to Damien Lazarus' Crosstown Rebels for another round of captivating and melodic techno by way of his latest EP 'We Come'. Already having graced the discographic annals of Cocoon and Kompakt, Kaspar's sound is now well established; his pushes and pulls adeptly between big room, dubby trance and broken-down electro and house, never quite placeable in the intermediary spaces between them. One could call it progressive house, but that would be underselling it; 'Flash Point' is the highlight here and the case in point, making masterful use of ducking and distortion to really flesh out the central syncopated stab as a focal point of the track. Nor should Paul Brenning's version of 'Transposed Sky' be missed for a second.

One More Round (86 House mix By Frankie Knuckles)
Walkman (86 House mix By Brett Wilcots)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Best turn their attention to that sweet mid 80s spot when the petri dish of party music was shaken up between disco, boogie, Italo and the emergent house sound from Chicago. Claudio Simonetti was a titan of the Italian groove, but his monster jam as Kasso, "One More Round", reached the stratosphere when Windy City godfather Frankie Knuckles gave the track his Midas touch. No more justification is needed for this pressing, but don't overlook the flip which finds 80s remix supremo Brett Wilcots taking on "Walkman" and whipping up a boogie frenzy of the highest order.

Review: Matt 'Radio Slave' Smith's Rekids label is always good value when it comes to useful and contemporary club cuts. Katerina provides more great evidence of that with this fresh 12", One. The title cut managed to be both dynamic and driving yet also nice and heady with well-crafted ambient synths floating round up top. Aleksi Perala remixes with a more trippy sense of melody and faster drums, then 'Papu' ups the ante as B-side jams tend to do. Last of all is the majestic 'Look Into My Eyes' with its wispy celestial chords and stripped-back minimal rhythms.

Review: Telomere Plastic asks you to Remember Your Days with a new six-track various artists EP full of delightfully designed club sounds. The melodies on Hiroyuki Kato are impossibly pure and delicate as they rain down the face of the shuffling drums of 'Black' while Six Dreams offers a complete vibe flip - the crisp and kinetic electro of 'Static Es.' Ty Senrna gets into a twitchy mutant tech house groove on 'Going Out Of Business' and Sherman C's 'Once U Pop' is an acid-laced breakbeat gem with a brilliantly tongue-in-cheek vocal sample that runs right through it, and Konerytmi shuts down with the silky drum breaks and sci-fi piste of 'Aikapiste'.

Since then he's perfected his craft in working with strong vocalists to create a chart-ready, crossover kind of house music that speaks to sunny days, and that's explicitly spelt out on this latest hit-in-the-making. Review: US house music producer Dana Kelley's 'Beta' was originally released in a 1999 and became a late era tech house classic just ahead of electronic music moving towards big trance and prog sounds. It is an expensive original to find nowadays so this Chiwax reissue is welcome indeed. 'Beta' exudes a hypnotic energy that is driven by pulsating rhythms and intricate layers of synthesizers to make for a fine fusion of techno, house and ambient elements that will still captivate the dancefloor today. 'Left With Nothing' is a deeper opener, then things get more raw on 'Nastiness' and 'Armageddon' is drenched din soulful pad work. The late US house heavyweight has a huge legacy behind his various aliases, and now Chiwax are looking at the Beta 12" from 1999. Opening cut 'Left With Nothing' is a powerful dose of deep house with a vocal turn from David Walker, while 'Nastiness' shows how gnarly and experimental Kelley could make his productions when he wanted to. 'Armageddon' is a hot and heavy worked with pumping compression creating the kind of locked in, sweaty atmosphere basement raves are made for.

Kemetic Just are always worthy of more shine, not least when it comes to their 2004 album The Peace Between Us. It was a bold take on future jazz and deep house with a raw edge, and 'Romance With You' was a standout track which now gets a full side of vinyl to bump out on. He has done that mostly on his own Dream Machine label but now lands on the Canadian outlet Pacific Rhythm with three more of his somnambulant sonics. 'Asleep' is all dusty drums and smeared shrouds that encourage the mind to wander, then the Space Ghost remix flips it somewhat into a more potent proposition. 'Deep Mind' is indeed deep but it's fulsome too - warm pads rush through the air waves as the drums and kicks establish the groove below. '4 PM' is more stripped back to the thudding kicks and lo-fi synth leads but diffuse chords bring plenty of late night soul. Originally released on the cult label Robs records in 1995, Kilowatt's 'The Last EP' is finally getting the much deserved repress. Included is the wicked acid banger 'Loose End' which is a diamond of the mid-90s bleep house sound. It is a collaborative project from music curator DProsper and resident DJ Natasha Diggs that is now back with another party-ready 12", this time from Knevrmind. It kicks off with a rugged house cut that chops up some big Kendrick samples to make for something of an anthemic opener. Review: Fool's Paradise is the exciting new label from Toolroom Records' Mark Knight. Coming straight from the heart, it's a natural progression from his hugely acclaimed 2021 album release, 'Untold Business', which saw Mark go back to his roots, paying homage to the more funky, soulful, and vocal house from the 1990s from where he came. With a focus on real instrumentation and production, coupled with great songwriting, this new Toolroom sublabel will be a platform for high quality house music designed to stand the test of time. Launching the new label with a mighty bang and delivering the first in our exciting new vinyl sampler series is head honcho Mark Knight, who joins forces with his Australian Toolroom labelmate, Sgt Slick, and British Soul sensation, Beverley Knight, on a dynamite cover of Prince's 1979 classic, 'I Wanna Be Your Lover'. Respectfully transporting the song onto today's dancefloors, Mark & Sgt Slick deliver a classy uplifting soulful house production, loaded with funky guitars, warm pads and sublime key performances. Adding the icing on the cake and putting her own stamp on things, Beverley belts out one of her signature spine-tingling vocals, garnished with lush harmonies and BV's that would indeed make The Purple One proud. Completing the vinyl package is dance music stalwart, Opolopo, and British soul icon, Jaki Graham, whom together bring the dancefloor heat with their new single, 'Fire'. Powered by a potent soulful house groove from Opolopo, loaded with warm piano hooks, emotive synth melodies and a sublime popping bass hook, 'Fire' see's Jaki flaunt her electrifying vocal talents with a show-stopping performance on this irresistibly catchy song.

This time out Hilit Kole makes a debut with 'Hot Mess,' a raw and jacking house cut with rugged drum loops and a sleazy vocal that turns into an epic wail. Beginning with an impossible-missioned eponymous A-sider, before moving into flat beat electro house of 'This Is It' and the cascading metro-synths of 'Feel', before finally concluding on the retro trance rejoinder, 'I'm Fine, Thanks!', there's really something here for everyone.

Up In The Sky (Cinthie remix) (5:59)
Review: Kolter has been busy, as always, and has a couple of fine outings dropping at similar times. This one on Bristol's always-wealthy Shall Not Fade is on nice orange vinyl. It opens with the feel-good synth chords of 'DX7 Together' which also has something of an early Chicago house feel to the cowbells, but plenty of future-facing tech vibes too. The pace picks up for the warm and breezy 'Please Come To My Show' (feat Leo Pol) then it's more chord-laced joy that comes to the fore on 'Up In The Sky'. Berlin fav Cynthia makes those chords have a distinctly old-school feel with her remix.

Dixie Queen (with Madaline Collins - Dripped version) (6:05)
Review: Michael Kuntzman presents a uniquely odd but compelling EP for Alleviated Records, following up his split EP 'The Underground Files 1' from 2016. From opener 'Dixie Queen' to its closing 'Dripped Version', we hear four ultra-hazy, muddy wallops in Memphis house, as if to evoke the feeling of attending a local squat rave while pranged off your nut on sizzurp. Vocal elements pop out of the mix like shared, up-close-and-personal conversational slurrings with new acquaintances you've just met, but the tracks all nonetheless command a beautifully driving surrealism, the star example of which has to be 'Mystery For Leo'.

Review: Electronica production duo Arnau Obiols and Kayyak, who've laid down a name for themselves for their distinct blend of cultural influences and captivating soundscapes, here present two new tracks that seamlessly fuse Afro-inspired rhythms with groovy organic beats. Barely letting us clock for a second that these are in any way electronically programmed or sequenced, this fresh Compost Records 12" hears its two new cuts, 'Faith' and 'San Diago', abound in the ambered, sandy interim of a clear-skied evening, in which cocktails flow and smiles widen. Remixes by Prins Thomas and Medle & Dele Sosimi do just as well to complement the mood.

Roach Motel - "The Night" (Philippa extended remix) (6:35)
Terry Farley, Wade Teo & Kameelah Waheed - "Dancing After Dark" (TDK 90 Dope mix) (6:08)
Review: A follow-up to last year's successful compilation 'Faith Presents: Ain't That A Groove', is given to us by the London-based label Faith ran by DJs Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson and Dave Jarvis. The high energy house party sound kicks off with Nolan who features the legendary house voice of Sir. Robert Owens. Hilit Kolet isn't shy with the extended remix of 'POV Siren'. This sound is synonymous with Feller and Heller DJ sets of the mid 90s. Philippa's extended remix of 'The Night' by Roach Motel backs that one up with another prime floor filler with hardly any let up. Lastly, Terry Farley, Wade Teo & Kameelah Waheed brings he deep groover "Dancing After Dark" to the party. These tracks will have you and the nightclub crowd out dancing all night.

Klement Bonelli - "Pesna" (7:08)
Fahlberg - "The Light" (8:28)
Review: One of Italy's premier deep house labels, MoBlack is back with their ninth volume of their gold series. This edition features four different producers that each take their turn pushing boundaries within the sound of their culture. Rancido & AfroTura & Bun Xapa's 'Kibe' has a driving beat to it with a strong vocal performance by Aziz. This track sets the tone for the album. Frankie Lluc's 'Burlan' is deep and tribal, riding an organic free flowing tech house to great success. For the second side, Klement Bonelli presents 'Pesna', a unique euro house sound rooted in early Italian disco. We can't help but think it reminds us of 'Rhythm is Dancer' by Snap. Fahlberg's 'The Light' ends things on an uplifting note with a dreamy piano builder that delivers. We think this is a great example of different regional producers making house music.

Kieran Jandu - "From My Soul" (6:15)
Review: London wax institution Phonica continue to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a label in deep-digging, highly eclectic style. This fourth sampler continues to hint at a much larger VA album with a wide range of sounds across the techno/jungle axis. Tim Reaper & Comfort Zone get us in the groove with the savage drum funk of 'Subterranean' while Toby Tobias eases down the tempo and takes us to some mystical places on the Balearic-on-Mars funk of 'On My Mind'. Meanwhile on the flip Shy One goes full-on Co-Op / Bugz vibes with its sparse broken beat jazziness while Orphic's Kieran Jandu closes the EP on a bumping early 90s-inspired techno roll-out. Happy anniversary Phonica.

Phasing You Out (David Holmes remix) (8:02)
Review: X Press 2 have long been bastions of the UK underground but despite their venerated veteran status they are also still knocking out proper good house music. They have a new album on the way that proves that, and this is one of the singles from it featuring Kele from Bloc Party. 'Phasing You Out' is everything Rocky and Diesel from this outfit have always championed - sweaty grooves, no frills, effective synths. It's perfect for amping up a dancefloor with its subtle vocal hooks and then it gets remixed by the legendary David Holmes into something a little more lavish and melodic but no less effective.

Review: Peruvian artist in Berlin Sofia Kourtesis has been on an unstoppable rise since she first emerged with a pair of EPs on Studio Barnhus. Brought into the Ninja Tune fold back in 2021, she's developed her debut album in the whirlwind of a rapidly growing profile and the personal struggle of her mother's terminal cancer diagnosis. Through her tenacity, she found a gifted doctor who was able to treat her mother and give her a life expectancy no-one would have thought possible, and so Madres doubles as a tribute to her mother and to the medical professionals who achieved what was thought impossible - as such, it's a powerful, sincere listening experience which fuses deep house with melancholic pop in mesmerising fashion.

Review: Having already released a career-spanning retrospective, Twenty, Kraak and Smaak have decided to offer up this partner compilation - a collection of 'new and classic' remixes. As you'd expect given the depth and variety at the heart of their party-starting sound, the collected remixes touch on many sounds, styles and moods, from the head-nodding dancefloor soul of Moods remix of 'Squeeze Me', the revivalist P-funk-meets-neo-boogie colour of Jafunk's rub of 'UR Freak' and the horn-toting, Latin funk flex of the Allergies revision of 'Money in the Bag', to the dubby downtempo loveliness of Richard Dorfmeister's rework of 'Stumble', the woozy deep house lushness of Girls of the Internet's remix of 'Forgot About You', Psychemagik's deliciously cosmic re-wire of 'Corsica '80' and the acid house tweakery of Joe Goddard's interpretation of Romanthony hook-up 'Let's Go Back'
