What I Want (5:55)

Lucid State (6:56)
Review: Is there anyone in the game that has been turning out such essential club sounds in so many different styles for such a long and consistent run as Burnski? Whatever he has on his cornflakes, we want some, because he's done it again here, this time with pal Kelper. 'What I Want' takes up the whole of the a-side and is mix of everything from deep house to minimal to Chicago jack. It's a busy, restless tune with a hooky vocal that keeps you locked. 'This' is a more tripped-out 5AM groove with warped deep space sound designs and airy drums that float. 'Lucid State' taps into a dreamy 90s tech house vibe that is utterly compelling.

What We Going To Do?

Want It
Colour
Review: Constant Sound is back in business with a collaborative EP from label founder Burnski and mainstay Kepler. As you should know by now, this means tech house is the order of the day, but equally these two don't rest on their laurels. 'What We Going To Do?' is a particularly fruity kind of tech house bumper with a garage bent, full-fat low end and a plethora of playful sample tweaks running throughout. 'Free' keeps the skip up, ramps up the bass and drops some classy dub touches into the blender. 'Want It' is on a similar tip, but here Burnski and Kepler take it deeper with some tasteful chords and dreamy FX processing. 'Colour' completes the set with mellow mood to balance out the uptempo thrust of the rhythm section, making for something like a sundown essential for the up all day crowd.

Max Casebolt - "Kate" (7:03)
Liou - "Catnip" (7:41)
Kepler - "Fusion" (6:35)
The Willers Brothers - "Move Back" (6:30)
Review: To date, the Daydream France imprint has largely specialized in multi-artist, compilation style EPs that showcase tracks from a range of rising stars. This fourth label release predictably takes a similar approach, serving up a quartet of tracks that blend the chunky, bassline-driven warmth and rhythmic swing of deep house with the spacey, far-sighted ethos of original Motor City futurism. This is most evident on the opening and closing tracks, where Max Casebolt and the Willers Brothers respectively fix deep space riffs and intergalactic chords to dextrous, two-step influenced broken house grooves. Yet it can also be heard on Kepler's luscious and bouncy "Fusion", where held-note chords and shuffling, tech-house style beats catch the ear, and within the gentle sunrise breeziness of Liou's "Catnip".

Noiro - "11 Reasons To" (6:18)
Review: Much loved UK underground stalwart Truly Madly kicks off his new label with a trip to the outer edges of the dancefloor. It's a various artist affair drawing on some of the most interesting producers round right now. It's the much hyped Gene On Earth who kicks off with a cosmic tech workout for mind, body and soul, and Kepler keeps the uplifting vibes alive with his high speed and slick acid cracker. The flip side is taken care of firstly by Jhobei with his deeper, more spacious 'Grande Sultry' which erupts on fanatical sci-fi synths and Noiro cloys out with a gritty head-wrecker.

Review: Leeds-based producer Kepler has been equally busy dishing out garage heat as 0113 in recent times, but he comes to Constant Sound with a supercharged tech house sound steeped in 90s punch. Just listen to the lately bass and tough beat driving 'Contact' and you'll know exactly what we mean. There's a melodic consistency that comes through on follow-up track 'Afterglow', but here the beats fall lighter and the synths get more space to sparkle. On the B side, 'Movement' reaches for the peak time once again, but with a gloriously melodic sensibility at its core, and then 'Pulse' rounds the EP off with another uptempo workout offset by illustrious lead lines and pads.

Pickled (6:21)

Groove Breakfast (4:55)
In The Loft (5:53)
Review: Hot on the heels of his first outing on Constant Sound, rising star Kepler (real name Matthew Farrow) makes his first appearance on Sukhumvit. The Retro Future EP is well named, because you'll find plenty of vintage influences and good, old-fashioned inspirations amongst the four tracks on show. Bustling opener 'Pickled' adds mid-90s Korg M1 organ sounds, saucer-eyed ambient house chords and Orbital style melodies to an energetic, non-stop groove, while 'Out of Time' offers a similar blend of 1990s house sounds and contemporary club weight. Over on the reverse, 'Groove Breakfast' joins the dots between Italian piano house and mid-90s NYC house, before Kepler rounds things off with the sub-heavy snap and celestial synthesizer riffs of US garage-influenced roller 'In The Loft'.

Review: Matthew Farrow brings his Kepler project back to Aesthetic following sterling turns on Silencio, Pathway Traxx and Pleasure Zone. The vibe is infectiously bouncy on opening track "Us01", while "Heads Down" stays true to its title as it favours a subtle approach for meditative immersion in the tech house tradition. "Dream State" finds Farrow exploring his jazzy tendencies once more with some ace, ear-catching chords that skip around a shuffling beat. "Locker" rounds the EP out with a mellow, dubby groover shaped out by gaseous pads and underpinned by a subtle, wriggling synth line.

Self Hypnosis (7:01)
Review: There's something brilliantly unfussy and matter-or-fact about Matthew Farrow's latest outing as Kepler, which marks his first appearance on no nonsense Mulen sub-label Hoarder. The four collected cuts are subtly varied and all aimed squarely at the dancefloor, with Farrow striking a near perfect balance between rolling dancefloor hypnotism, funk-fuelled glitch-house and bottom-heavy peak-time intent. We're particularly enjoying the spacey and ultra-deep swing of "Self Hypnosis" and the weighty, stripped-back pump of opener "Few Days' - a track built around little more than fluid sub-bass, crunchy drums and metallic electronic riffs - but the organ-powered, U.S garage-influenced tech-house bump of "French Lessons" is not far behind.

A solid selection of retro techno cuts are featured on Freedom Mills, and all for maximum dance floor impact. Drifter (6:31)
Tunnel Vision (5:16)
Review: Kepler steps up to the ever reliable RAND Muzik label with four of his famously functional yet stylish house cuts. Up first is 'End Light,' a quick and slick tune with cosmic feels and a lovely bassline. 'Bloom' then gets a little more direct and physical with hurried drums and more spaced out intergalactic chords. 'Drifter' then gets leggy, with a nice drum and bass combo that pumps the good time feels. 'Tunnel Vision' is the most sleek of the lot. The shuffling drums are tight, the synths warped and the whole thing just perfectly designed for dancing.

Confusion (5:53)
Feeling Hazy (Chugging mix) (5:06)
Breathe (5:01)
Review: Sometime Constant Sound regular Kepler has released some terrific music over the last few years, not least last year's debut album 'Freedom Mills' (a set named after a venue in his home city of Leeds). He continues this fine run of form on 'Sense', his first outing on Breakfree. The title track is suspenseful, forthright and pleasingly psychedelic, offering an energetic, sub-heavy take on tech-house, while 'Confusion' pairs the swing and low-end pressure of UK garage with the glassy-eyed sonics of contemporary UK tech-house. Elsewhere, 'Feeling Hazy (Chugging Mix)' cannily combines crunchy drums with bleeping electronics, dubby bass and ghostly aural textures, and closing cut 'Breathe' doffs a cap to ambient techno and hip-hop influenced mid-90s IDM.

Review: Kepler is one of those studio wizards who has a fine grasp of his tools and coaxes maximum feeling out of them no matter the vibe he goes for. This outing on X-Kalay is a fusion of his mini, tech and garage credentials that hooks you in from the first beat. 'Lowlife' is both deep and spaced out but superbly dynamic with fantastic sound designs bringing it to life. 'Control' is pure dance floor goodness, a kinetic grover that is smooth as silk, and 'Stranded' (feat Wickham) brings some house bounce and naught bass. 'Need' is the ice cold cosmic house closer with a serene sense of tech house energy.

Review: The cultured underground outlet that is Brouquade squeezes out one last release of 2023, this time from the enduring man of the moment, Kepler. He brings his usual cosmic touch and mastery of celestial melody to a trio of tasty tech house cuts. The first is a busy one with clacking drums and snappy snares on 'Enter The Void' that takes you through the cosmos at a great pace. 'MRF' then rides a nice bumpy low end and has delightfully deft astral melodies peeling off the beats before 'Event Horizon' shuts down with a hurried and snappy rhythm and more dark and unsettling synth explorations.

Dana Ruh - "Free Game" (extended live take)
Review: Kepler and Dana Run are two top producers from different ends of the house spectrum. Kepler looks to the future with his cosmic synths and neon melodies, pumping electronic grooves and driving sense of energy, whereas Ruh has always operated more in smoky basements, with dusty drums and moody heads-down atmospheres. And so it proves here with 'Moments' taking you on a slick trip to the stars, and 'Free Game' (extended live take) a delightfully analogue and melancholic exploration of the deep for the wee small hours.

Review: The first release on the freshly minted MASS label is a smorgasbord of nostalgic, retri-futurist delights that showcases cuts from a quartet of artists old and new. Kelper kicks things off by adding warming chords, squelchy synth bass and far-sighted electronic motifs to a punchy electro beat, before Midge Thompson joins the dots between spacey, early '90s deep house and the sub-heavy sound of bleep techno. Nikol's 'Leon' is a fine tribute to early '90s UK techno full of clattering drum machine beats, moody motifs and stabbing 'LFO' bass, while Keefy G's 'Tools For Le Car' sounds like an unlikely collaboration between Kraftwerk, Sweet Excorcist, the Nathaniel X Project and a restless scratch DJ. As label debuts go, it's an impressive first outing.

Review: Kepler sure is on a roll at the moment; the Leeds-based producer and DJ continues on with his prolific output for his very own Perspective label's third release, with two tracks by Frenchman Noiro. We're really digging A1 cut "Night Run", a ravey, breaks-driven number awash in mesmerising FM synth pads, which is followed by the bleepy tech funk of "Operate". Over on the flip, he hands proceedings over to Frenchman Noiro, who takes things down more of a minimal route with the dubby and hypnotic redux of "Data" being his standout track - tip!

Review: Planet Orange are making their name with bright and bouncy VA releases, and on their third excursion, the crew behind the fast-rising Planet Orange imprint has decidedly to take us on an interplanetary expedition beyond the stars. Kelper straps into his spacesuit and steps up first, peppering a chunky, retro-futurist deep house groove with synth-marimba stabs and suitably spacey chords, before T Jacques reaches for a Korg K1 organ bassline, shuffling breakbeat blasts, sci-fi bleeps and rubbery bass on 'Spruce Caboose'. Elsewhere, Pete Melba wraps psychedelic acid motifs and star-fall electronics around a bustling house beat on 'El Hombre', before Accented Measures sets us 'Adrift in Space' in the company of starry-eyed bleeps, effects-laden vocal snippets, dubbed-out motifs, chunky drums and elastic synth-bass.
