LONEWOLF 003 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LONEWOLF 003. Rel: 17 Feb 20
  1. Aton (6:09)
  2. Innosense (5:01)
  3. Utility Shift (4:39)
  4. Cirrus Clouds (5:09)
Review: The EYA Records crew continues their trip into a new musical direction with the Lonewolf series, this time offering up a split 12" between two distinctive techno producers. Bladymore Galaxy, otherwise known as Riccardo Buccirossi, brings some effervescent synthscapes to bear on his side of the record. There's an old-skool sensibility to the production - all uptempo drums and layer upon layer of sparkling sci-fi melodics - but there's equally a welcome fresh energy and emotional honesty embedded in Buccirossi's style that makes it so joyous to listen to. Belgian producer Innershades brings a punchier style informed by electro and trance - the perfect sound to lose yourself to as the dry ice creeps around and the sun starts rising over the dancefloor.

  1. Bernard Horn - "Ticket 2 Tomar" (6:23)
  2. Alec Falconer - "Hiero" (6:25)
  3. Baby Rollen - "Swimming With Dolphins" (7:22)
  4. Tito Mazzetta & Isai - "Red Bali Tunnel" (8:58)
Review: Banoffee Pies' popular "Black Label" series continues with another multi-artist missive packed to the rafters with tech-tinged fare rich in dubby sub-bass and crunchy two-step beats. As you'd expect for the almost-too-cool-for-school Bristol imprint, all four tracks are undeniably on trend. That's not a criticism though, because there's much to admire throughout. We're particularly enjoying the bleeping melodies, echoing, reggae-style chords, dreamy pads and tough two-step beats of Alex Falconer's "Hiero", though the body-popping acid electro brilliance of Baby Rollen's "Swimming With Dolphins" is not far behind. Tito Mazzetta and Isai's collaborative closing cut, a sublimely bass-heavy chunk of early morning dub techno/tech-house fusion, is also impressive.

Ingi Visionair EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SLPFNK 023. Rel: 17 Feb 20
  1. Samuel Deep - "SlapTrax" (5:09)
  2. Ingi Visions - "Visionair Wan" (5:14)
  3. Julian Alexander - "Macrodyn" (5:06)
  4. Ingi Visions - "Visionair Tu" (5:06)
Review: The latest drop on SlapFunk finds a three-strong cast bringing their A-game to the label that knows how to balance the chunkiest house with the tightest minimal funk. Samuel Deep is sounding fierce on "SlapTrax", an uptempo workout peppered with zippy FX and playful sound design. Ingi Visions then gets into a wriggling mood with the tracky, tremendous "Visionair Wan", while Julian Alexander brings a punchy strain of tech-house to the table for "Macrodyn". Ingi returns again for "Visionair Tu", another hopped-up hoedown full of twitchy percussion and a cheeky bassline to get bodies wiggling with approval.

Aqueduct (limited double 12" + postcard)
Cat: PRESS 11. Rel: 21 Feb 20
  1. 697 (11:35)
  2. 463 (7:33)
  3. 548 (10:12)
  4. 653 (11:47)
  5. 414 (6:51)
  6. 410 (7:53)
Review: While some of the hype surrounding Acting Press may have cooled in recent times, the Berlin-based label remains in rude health. That much is proved by this album-length double vinyl excursion from Intera, an all-star collaboration between PLO Man, Hashman Deejay, C3D-E. The trio starts in stunning fashion with the spaced-out, far-sighted dub techno/ambient fusion of "697", before brilliantly wrapping huggable, ultra-deep chords around a skittish techno beat on "463". They pay tribute to the glory years of Detroit techno on the all-action bustle of "548", while "653" sees them place bouncy, glassy-eyed riffs and Modem-style electronic sounds atop another retro-futurist techno groove. "414" is techno-funk after an extra-strong dose of shrooms and "410" is a superb ambient techno excursion.

Just The Way I Like It (1-sided 12")
Cat: NSRVINYL 012. Rel: 05 Mar 20
  1. Isoul8 - "Just The Way I Like It" (feat Diamondancer - 12" mix) (6:44)
  2. June Jazzin - "Unfriendly Guests" (7:02)
Review: Now this is proper house music from the Noble Square label. Crate-digging veteran Volcon aka Isoul8 has linked with Diamond Dancer and enlisted the lush guitar of Piranahead to cook up a fantastically deep and effusive track that overflows with soul and spirituality, while the gentle vocals add another layer of cool. On the flip side, June Jazzin comes just as correct with a timeless broken beat track that glows thanks to the jazzy keys and bendy chords that light it up. Loungey yet heady, it's as good as it gets, frankly, and will swell your heart in two different but equally impactful ways.

  3. Danielle Baldelli & Dionigi - "Prepare To Energize" (5:55)
  4. Mateo & Matos - "Vibe" (feat Sammy Zone - Jorge Savoretti remix) (7:31)
Review: 1 Life returns to its "Keep It Deep" series with another sizzling slab of feel good party wares designed to blow the clouds away. First up, Vincent Inc remixes Julian Sanza's "Starduster" with the slickest kind of '80s funk - like a Level 42 deep cut on steroids. Rune Lindbaek and Frisvold get deep in the mangroves with their swampy version of "Sunset On Punta Paloma" by Incarnations. Cosmic master Danielle Baldelli and Dionigi bring some slick Italo vibes and subtly psychedelic flourishes to their original production "Prepare To Energize", while Jorge Savoretti shakes up Mateo & Matos' "Vibe" and turns it into a snapping, clacking deep house workout par excellence.

  1. Rites & Rituals (remix) (9:26)
  2. Rites & Rituals (Remaster 1) (6:47)
  3. Rites & Rituals (Remaster 2) (6:02)
Review: This is the first in what is said to be a new series of special Prescription reissues, remasters and retakes. It kicks off in bold fashion with label head Ron Trent's remixes of Indigo Tracks' "Rites & Rituals" which laid down an early blueprint for Afro house that has never really been bettered. It is alive with congas, hand drums and toms that bubble and boil over a deep, tribal groove. Two different remasters take the tracks in deeper, then more soulful and spiritual directions that are utterly hypnotic and enchanting. Looks like this could well become a vital series.

  4. Keith Lorraine - "Wild Flower" (5:50)
  5. Mathew Ferness - "Dreams" (5:45)
Review: Now onto its fifth release, Lorca's Live Ones returns with some deep and sultry cuts. Dutch wunderkind Windows (formally DJ Windows XP) delivers the Iush and dusty emotions of "I Wanted To Share My Feelings But You Kept Talking", Intr0beatz goes ultra deep and gets his swing on with the evocative "For The Love", while on the flip London-based Keith Lorraine (also known as Baby Rollen) delivers the hypnotic jazz bar loops of "Wild Flower". Finally, Canadian upstart Mathew Ferness follows in the tradition of local legend Nick Holder on the bittersweet "Dreams".
