Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. Review: Kyle Hall makes another entry into the already fine discography of his Forget The Clock label with another fine four tracker. His usual raw style pervades from the off with the well swung drums and bumping kicks of the title track soon to get you in the groove. His signature diffuse synth work is what brings warmth and soul to the dusty drums of 'Track 2' while 'Sarabi' ups the pace with a more hurried groove and pent up sense of party joy. A second bonus track closes proceedings, with 'Track 4' layering up low slung drums and meandering cosmic leads to heady effect.

Review: Kyle Hall treats us to a new and special pressing of his standout Equanimity EP which was last reissued back in 2020. This one comes on limited edition translucent teal vinyl and was initially put out to mark the ten-year anniversary of Detroit native Hall's own Wild Oats label. In that decade he has established it as one of his hometown's finest for dusty deep house explorations. The four tracks on it are just that with a whimsical melody over bumpy beats on the opener, then more zoned-out beats on '4wrd Motion' and glitchy kicks and hits on 'No More Moon'. Last of all is the star-gazing cosmic house of 'Ghosten 4 A 2nd X'. A timeless EP for sure.

Review: "Dubb Me Some'tin Fresh" first appeared on wax way back in 2001, as part of Halo, Hipp-E and Tony's first outing for YoshiToshi under the 6400 Crew alias. It remains one of their strongest cuts; a dark, sweaty and trippy fusion of tribal drums, acid bass and dub-house sensibilities. This reissue contains the freshly re-mastered original version, plus a trio of tasty new reworks. Deep Dish man Sharam steps up first, emphasizing the dub-influenced elements on a big room version that strips back the original's dense tribal drums without sacrificing any energy. In contrast, Sinisa Tamamovic's remix is loose and more tribal-minded, while Hector opts for more acid lines and heavier sub-bass on his big room-friendly interpretation.

Review: Halvtrak is hardly prolific - this EP is just his fourth solo vinyl outing in a decade - but what he does release is invariably excellent. The Finnish producer's trademark sound is rooted in the past, referencing British breakbeats, ambient techno, bleep, Motor City futurism and Chicago house, but always sounds fresh, pleasingly melodic and analogue rich. Opener 'X-Pressed' is probably the most peak-time ready of the strong bunch of tracks on show, with glassy-eyed chords and spacey melodies riding a thrusting bassline and sweaty breakbeats, though the house-tempo melodic techno strut of 'Rhythm Overture' pushes it close. Elsewhere, 'Phase Distorshun' is a more angular, deeper and lo-fi techno excursion, while 'Doubt' sounds like a cross between deep bleep minimalism and hypnotic, mid-90s Detroit techno.

Review: Moscow Records boss Archie Hamilton appears this time on Enzo Siragusa's Fuse London imprint with these slices of rolling, Latin-infused tech-house for the beach party. This is the kind of stuff that lovers of Mindshake and Rawthentic will be all over. First up "Mind Blank" brings the tough yet sultry attitude that you could imagine playing peak time at Amnesia. "Works On Sunday" takes the tempo down a notch or two for something more suited to the afterhours, but just as sexy. There's also a remix of this on the flip by none other than label boss Siragusa with Seb Zito keeping the afterhours vibe intact but with a druggier, minimal take on things.

Review: Lol Hammond is a former member of Spiral Tribe and early live techno act The Drum Club who now makes music on his own as Wah Wah Planet. Back in 1990 is when he penned this fantastic five track Balearic house EP alongside Russell Crone and with female vocal contributions from Lucy Sian. It very much lay out an early blueprint for UK street soul and the opener on the A-side 'Jewel' explores a romantic theme with hooky pop lyrics. Review: Mysticisms continues its global search for amazing music, hitting gold again with an EP of four previously unreleased house meets IDM with a dreamy edges by Romania's HAN aka Dan Handrabur, culled from early studio recordings between 1991-95. After getting into record store culture he began building a studio and eventually gave up studying in favour of production, relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where his debut release (as X Drone with Adham Shaikh in 1993) began to establish Handrabur's role as an integral part its electronic scene. Appearances with Harthouse, Exist Dance, Eye Q Records and many more followed, plus collaborations with the legendary Phil Western. The four tracks here haven't aged at all, with nimble beats, action-packed arrangements and dreamy atmospheres, 'Give In & Resist' coming on like Rising High-era Mixmaster Morris crossed with the playfulness of Air Liquide, and 'Phantasme' revelling in the same cross-rhythmic fun that informed The Black Dog's classics.

Review: Hanna is a somehow rather overlooked or under-appreciated (or both) producer from the states. He had some cult classic outings on some key labels first time round then seemed to disappear only to come back again a few years ago with his superbly fresh and musical house sound more than in tact. He is a master instrumentalist and keys player who brings the jazz, the funk, the class to every tune. That is certainly the case on the warm, glowing grooves of 'Another Flannel Afternoon' with its neat synths and subtle vocals. 'Afraid Of Breakfast' is a more textured track with wet clasp and loopy synth motifs over a rugged house beat. 'In Yo Head' features 90s hip-hop maestro Jeru Tha Damaja on the vocals and gets a remix that is a perfect bit of hip-house.

Review: Hamburg-based duo Hard Drive Library return to do what they do best on the fourth edition of their eponymous imprint: hooky filter house tunes, extremely raw and unforgiving. On the A-side you've got the bumpin' dancefloor heater 'Keep It Groovin' and its hypnotic vocal refrain that'll have the crowd grooving 'til the break of dawn, plus two more rough and ready jams over on the flip. There's the quirky and low slung bounce of 'Donkey Damage' as well as the funked-up disco loop action on 'Dancin Heat' reminiscent of classic DJ Sneak.

The Hardway Bros version is a pneumatic, boxy workout swathed in dub and rolling slow and steady for the warm-up crowd, while Dell's Masonic Noodles interpretation takes a sparser approach sprinkled with mystical synth motifs to send a chill through the dance.

Review: The deep house maestro that is Ron Trent has been tapped up for some of his remix expertise by the good folk at Leng. He is charged with tackling Harks & Mudd's 'Susta' and turns out two versions. His opening remix is all grown up Balearic sounds. Gentle percussion is scattered over the leggy house drums, noodling Rhodes chords bring colour and a breathy female vocal layers in the sun kissed soul. It's an immediate classic. On the flip comes his dub, which is more fleshy and elastic, but with just as much soul and warmth.

Review: Second time around for Harlem Hustlers' surging disco-house anthem, which first appeared in stores way back in 2005. This time round, the Italian duo have reworked it considerably, placing underground boogie legend Orlando Johnson's lead vocal front and centre while opting for some more organic-sounding instrumentation (the original was more sample-heavy). On their '2023 Rework' they channel the sound of Groove Culture label bosses Mickey More and Andy Tee, wrapping Johnson's vocal, tidy horns, flanged guitars and classic-sounding piano riffs around a warming bass guitar part and crunchy house drums. It's a very classy and far more authentically 'disco'-sounding track than their 2005 original. Their flip-side 'Get On The Floor' mix, meanwhile, has a smoother, more synth-heavy disco-house sound, less vocal and even more of the excellent horn sounds.

Review: Chiwax continue their exploration of US house music history with a reissue of this 1995 joint from Chicago's Tim Harper. Originally released on Relief, it's back on wax for the first time in 28 years and not a moment too soon. 'I Know You Gonna Dig This' is an addictive, bouncing slice of off-kilter deep house with the power to set a dance ablaze, while 'Slammin All Night' is an experimental jacker which tips towards techno in wild synth lines and tricky drum machine flex. 'Candyman' is a spring-loaded joint which shows Harper to be up there with Gemini in terms of innovative approaches to house music, while 'Return Of The Dragon' focuses on powerful synth patterns for energy, pushing the distorted percussion to the back of the mix and creating something special in the process.
