I Never Knew (280 West mix)
I Never Knew (280 West dub)
I Never Knew (280 West reprise)
Review: Jersey's veterans 280 West make a big-time return to Phuture Soul with this powerful three-track EP of soulful, garagey vocal house. "I Never Knew" is classic Jersey, a big-time male vocal with some chunky drums and disco horns blasting away on the hypnotic, catchy soulful groove - the A-side "West" mix is a stormer for the clubs. On the flip you've got a super-fat dub mix and the beatless reprise mix to do some DJing damage with. Fans of DJ Spen and the East Coast sound will be all over this big time release.

Ceci N'Est Pas Un Cliche (3:47)
Review: Belgian DJ duo 2ManyDJs make their music under the Soulwax alias. Whenever they do, it is arresting, seriously quality stuff. For this one the multi-genre mash up artists look to remix 'Cliche' by Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul for the French label Because Music. Their first version is a typically textured, raw, ravey indie-techno workout with rugged beats and sleazy vocals lit up by bright strobes. After the instrumental comes 'Ceci N'Est Pas Un Cliche' which is a macho disco stomper with sliding hi hats and low-slung bass.

EB - "Honey" (mix)
EB - "Honey" (dub)
Review: Ron Trent comes through with some pristine house refixes of Ms Badu's 2007 classic "Honey" on this heavyweight twelve that's wrapped in equally fine artwork. Fans of Trent's recent Jill Scott tweak will be all over this record, which expands the shimmering bump of the 9th Wonder produced original into two differing ten minute plus jazzy house anthems. The vocal version delights with a percussive snap hugged by Badu's distinctive woozy tones and wrapped in an array of rich organ and piano melodies which really burst into life as the track progresses. The dubbed counterpart provides a sultrier twilight version, the raw bones of opening moments soon surrendering to a procession of glistening chords and melodies.

Sunlight (original mix)
Sunlight (Armand Van Helden remix)
Sunlight (Tie Dye remix)
Review: Acting like the latter excesses of post Justice electro house never happened; former Bang Gang acolytes Bag Raiders used their recent eponymous debut album for Modular to present a Vitamin D infused take on synth heavy electro pop dosed up on disco bliss. "Sunlight" is the second single to be culled from that set with the joyful vocal turn from Dan Black matched by the euphoric thrust of the Bag Raiders musical backing. The accompanying remix from house music heavyweight Armand Van Helden is surprisingly faithful to the source, adding some bump to the beat and embellishing that distinct burning lead melody with a few degrees more heat. This release should really be praised however for enticing the criminally unprolific Tiedye into the studio for a remix which realigns the track to a whole new approach - filled with all manner of new instrumentation which only serves as further notice of the duo's obvious talent.

Review: Two fabulous mixes of Bah Samba's "Morris" coming from Phil Asher and Anthony Nicholson. Anthony Nicholson provides a slightly more jazz/fusion mix again sticking with the original slick pizzicato strings but adding fresh live vibes, bass and guitar along with a slick new Latin groove. Phil Asher goes straight and clean on the beat and cuts the original Latin loop creating a new life! He EQs the pizzicato strings, pitches the lead vocal to the original tempo and takes the beats to a mid house tempo.

We Can't Loose (instrumental)
We Can't Loose (beat)
Review: Foliage Records are an outlet that consistently put out brilliant soulful house and their sophomore release of 2011 is no different. "We Can't Loose" is the striking combination of artist and producer Bandy and the graceful vocals of Adrianne Archie. A flawless partnership, the duo produce contemporary house that drips with soul and tribal essence. Heavy percussion pushes the A Side ever forward, but it's the jazzy keys and deliriously deep bass that give the groove. On the B, Foliage offer an instrumental version, sped up from its original it offers a more rhythmic listening experience. The beat version concentrates on the drums of "We Cant Loose", showing off the percussive patterns on display and again, sails in as a welcome addition.

The original bumps along with Alexander's vocals leading the way over dirty, distorted funk bass and warm chords. Review: Bangana is back with a new slow techno-tracker called "Skrik" . As the nights in Sweden are very short during summer, the night-producing duo has been struggling to get their second release on Heya Hifi together. Maybe some of their anguish can be heard on this track, inspired by Edvard Munch's painting Skriet. Here is what some DJs have to say about it: Rocco: "Very nice release from your label. I like this track for his Deep Spirit and his Detroit Bassline. A dancefloor track to play loud!" DJ Pippi: "I like it very much! So different and in the same time so interesting sounds!! This Is The Future Sound!! I Love it!!" Hardsoul: "Quality material as always! Support from the Hardsoul camp!" Bangana are Combo & Alf Tumble, aka Sumo, when producing at night. Bangana surfaced earlier this year with a major track called "Refresh", which was one of the big tunes during WMC 2006.

Viewpoint
Review: Boston operation Supply Records have proved to be a label to watch, focusing on quality releases from B tracks and Rene Audiard's sublime Pechorin LP, and this new release from 50% of B Tracks and label co-owner John Barera supplies further proof (sorry) The title track to Walk Right In pays obvious homage to Black Box's "Ride On Time" in its vocal, while heroic piano chords and loose, almost out of time drums in "Lying Low" take place alongside similar sounding synths used in Caribou's "Sun". "Get Real" verges on dubby house had it not been for its Legowelt-like musicality. Walking keys and chilled out Rhodes then work in time to cleverly cut up vocals and a funky bassline in "Don't Look". Barera opts for some killer sustained Rhodes deepness on the final cut "Viewpoint", with snare rolls, machine drumming and high pitched strings adding to the melancholia.
