Trust Love (original 1999 version)
Trust Love (Orgue Electronique remix)
Trust Love (Patrick Pulsinger remix)
Trust Love (100 Hz 1999 remix)
Review: This tech-house vocal pearl was first heard in a Parisian after-party in the winter of 2000, spun by a then unknown Ivan Smagghe. After years of chasing, Hi-Phen finally secured the rights of "Trustlove". it has never been commercially released until now, while getting a lot of attention/envy from the coolest DJ's. Hi-Phen has commissioned new mixes and magic has happened really. Austria's finest techno originator and all around eclectic studio wizard Patrick Pulsinger has rendered a proper emotive electro-techno version with minimal overtones which is already heavily supported by Damian Lazarus, Rob Mello and D Julz. The other new mix is by Rotterdam's master of the staccato minimal electro sound, Orgue Electronique. Here he has gone for an update of the early Chi-town sound. Support on this mix comes from Serge, The Glimmers and Cyril K. Also included is a harder new mix from 100 Hz himself!

Chuck Nology
Review: 16 Bit Lolitas are back with two more show-stoppers. "Passing Lights", with vocals by Jennifer Hornes, is an emotionally charged rock edged builder with a tastefully hard edge in the same vein as many of Deep Dish's pop rock ventures. "Chuck Nology" is in a tech-house vein, with an electro fused bassline and anthemic building production.

Lift Him Up (Mark's Ol' Skoo mix re-edit)
Lift Him Up (Ian Friday Tea Party instrumental dub)
Review: New mixes of this classic. Latin tinged piano and spiritual male vocal make for a serious gospel house sound. Ian Friday's mixes kick the energy up a bit for those peak hours, and the Mark Mendoza old skool mix will take you back, stripped down to the track's essence - with added vocals. The original is also worth revisiting, it's still quite a track on it's own.

I Never Knew (280 West mix)
I Never Knew (280 West dub)
I Never Knew (280 West reprise)
Review: Jersey's veterans 280 West make a big-time return to Phuture Soul with this powerful three-track EP of soulful, garagey vocal house. "I Never Knew" is classic Jersey, a big-time male vocal with some chunky drums and disco horns blasting away on the hypnotic, catchy soulful groove - the A-side "West" mix is a stormer for the clubs. On the flip you've got a super-fat dub mix and the beatless reprise mix to do some DJing damage with. Fans of DJ Spen and the East Coast sound will be all over this big time release.

Review: The 3 Winans Brothers served up their Foreign Land album, from which this single is taken, in 2014. But it could as well as be from any of the proceeding three decades. It is life-affirming gospel, soul and r&b that makes perfect fodder for a remixer like Louie Vega. The gorgeous backing vocals remind in place, as do the main male voices, but the drums are either drawn out and made all the more soulful or shorted up and energised for the club across these four superb mixes. House music doesn't come more authentic or stirring than this. 838848-01

DJ Hell Presents My Definition Of House (Part 3)
Cat: GIGOLO 186. Rel: 20 Oct 06
33 1/3 Queen - "Searchin'"
Earth People - "Reach Up To Mars"
Review: With this the 3rd instalment of Hell's my definition of house 12" series, two new massive Gigolo old-school tracks are resurrected for the pleasure of a modern listening public. In 1986, three young DJs began making music on a 4-track recorder in a Baltimore basement studio. Little did they know at the time that more than 15 years later they would be viewed as pioneers of American dance music. 33 1/3 Queen (aka Basement Boys aka Jay Ateinhour, Reddy Souglas, and Thommy Davis) took samples of A Guy Called Gerald's classic "Blow Your House Down" (originally released in 1988) and made their single "Searchin'" which quickly turned out to be an underground club favourite. To date, the boys have remixed songs such esteemed acts as Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, The Shamen, Angie Stone, Lenny Kravitz and Paula Abdul. In addition, they continue to expose and nurture new talents on their own label, Basement Boys Records, which was established in 1995. The Basement Boys have been responsible for some of clubland's biggest anthems and their hit "Searchin'" is as relevant today as it was ten years ago. Earth People's (aka Pal Joey) house masterpiece reach up to mars originally released in 1990 on Underworld Records finally gets a re-issue on Gigolo Records. The original with its monster drums shuffling guitars synth stabs great use of vocal samples and incredible production skills still withstands the test of time sounding like it could have been made yesterday. This is classic material here that will destroy any dancefloor!! House maestro Pal Joey released this tune, a funky cross-pollination of garage classics from Toney Lee ("Reach Up") and Dexter Wansel ("Life On Mars"), in 1990, and you have to thank Hell for making it available now once again to a 2006 audience. There's a fine line between classic and dated. Hell knows this well and selects only for his 12" series "My Definition Of House" those which were groundbreaking when they first appeared and still sound hot to 21st century ears. So keep your mind and ears open, for you never know what Hell will dig up from the basement next. Stay tuned for "My Definition Of House part 4"!

Label boss Brian Tappert is all over this one, with a tasty Latin bump and synths galore on his remix of 4 Siders "Sol Y Mas", a vibetastic dancefloor cut. 4 You
Review: Marc Kinchen is kinda worshipped here at Juno - "Given", released in 1993 on his Area label (and soon to get re-released on Omar S's FXHE), is a classic example of the US garage sound that was taken on by Todd Edwards et al in later years. "4You", which appeared on the same 12" as the aforementioned "Given", is here treated to a repress on Defected with a brace of contemporary remixes from Maya Jane Coles and 2000 And One. Coles - who owes a great deal of her sound to the likes of MK - serves up a driving tech house retweak, while 2000 And One brings the brass to the fore on his version, indulging those late night keys. As good as they are, nothing beats the original cut. That bassline, that clipped vocal, it all still works ... brilliantly.

Come Together
Review: Not any orchestral live band can create a feeling that translates so fluidly on the dancefloor. When they redid "Jaguar", A Hundred Birds took DJ Rolando's Detroit techno classic "Knights Of The Jaguar" and recreated it. Released by Wave in 2003, this tune made a big moment when Francois K dropped it at his Deep Space party, bringing the celebration to emotional new heights. The band also recorded a cover version of Angelique Kidjo's "Batonga" in 2001. With two covers and an original song, "Georgia", A Hundred Birds have gone on to receive international acclaim. A Hundred Birds return with yet another classic remake: "Black Water". It was the summer of 2000 and Kevin Saunderson's project Octave One conjured the original, a big club hit. You might remember its nostalgic melody and sweet harmony, reprised here in "Black Water". A Hundred Birds give this song new life, with their authentic acoustic treatment covering a whole new ground for the dancefloor.

Review: The third in Prescription's From the Vaults series is perhaps the most crucial to date, delivering a clutch of veritable classics from the label's archives. Proceeding kick off with the timeless Latin house swing of the Mericana remix of A Man Called Adam's "Que Tal America" from all the way back in 96 - check that sax! Abacus - "My Brazilian Love"
Last Session - "Sometimes I Feel Like"
Ron Trent - "Morning Fever"
Ani - "Love Is The Message"
Review: US label Prescription Classics serve up the fourth part in the From The Vaults series. Taking timeless beauties from the archives, Ron Trent's label is now re-issuing these deep dance gems. Part 4 kicks off with Abacus's "My Brazilian Love". Raw chords, delicate swinging hi-hats and perfectly executed percussive sections give it pure soul and groove. Last Session's "Sometimes I Feel" is fuelled by a strong kick that's kept in check by a bassline to die for and sultry vocal snippets. Label boss Ron Trent is up on the flip with "Morning Fever"; its epic guitar riff and chord patterns get as deep and funky as they come, garnished with tinny percussion and low slung momentum. Lastly, "Love Is The Message" from Ani is the "For Those Who Didn't Hear It The First Time" version from 1994. Riding off its tribal percussion and sharp drum taps, the sexy vocals ooze with allure over the constantly driving groove. Essential.

Review: There is very little info out there about the Milkcrate Mondays label but we do know that their only other release last year was well hyped and quickly sold out. This second one is likely to follow suit. It comes from Able and is a dusty house cut with an old school feel thanks to the gentle breaks that power it along as a signature smoky soul vocal from Amy Winehouse brings plenty of emotion to a-side cut 'Winehouse Magic'. On the flip is 'Drake Punk' which pairs Daft Punk filter house loops with auto-tuned vocals all sure to bring some fun to the 'floor.

Something New
Review: Shlomi Aber has over the years managed to create himself an honourable place and became one of the leading DJs and producers in the Israeli night life scene. He also runs his own show on the famous Israeli radio station -"South Radio". Shlomi Aber's sets are full with warm and unique sounds that makes you feel like you are going back to the better days of house music, you can just feel the magic in the air. Shlomi's musical inspirations can't be defined by one genre, taken from jazz to funk, disco, deep-house, electro, progressive, acid and techno but the main fact remains that he manages to create his own musical niche that makes him stand out from a lot of DJs out there. "Absolutely love Something New !!! Really fucking good shit!" - Jody Wisternoff, "Both sides are cool - Good buzz about it in 3 Beat - and doing well for me - very tasty" - Steve Parry (Juice FM/3Beat), "More peak-time chunky house from alternative route" - Jerry Bouthier, "Massive release from Shlomi - it's really cool. Both tracks do what they have to do in fine style" - Lewis Dene, "A big summertime piano track that works on many different levels. I'll be hammering this one for some time to come and played on the radio show. Thanks AR" - Paul Hamill (ATL Dance BBC Radio Ulster), "Really feeling the Inspiration track .Funky as hell with another killer piano hook from Alternative Route. In Your Face
Review: The Crime City label come through with their third release, calling on Acidicted's Adalberto to drop some raw and nasty ghetto house ripplers on the Dance Maniac 12" - strictly for club use only! Recent advocates of Delroy Edwards material should seriously consider this incendiary triplet of productions from the German producer as they are every bit as unhinged as those LIES releases. Jack hammering into action with "Work This Out" Adalberto maintains an energy, rawness and gritty dirt comparable to the nascent ghetto house of early 90s Chicago throughout. Adalberto clearly knows his way round the TR-909 but what's really impressive is how he instils some rough shod melodic textures amidst the unrelenting gut punch of drums and bassline.

These are lush tunes with gorgeous backing vocals, fine sax sounds and irresistible drums. Review: Adonis' debut drop "No Way Back" must surely rank high in the stakes for the most repressed, bootlegged, re-edited and remixed entrants into the Trax arsenal. Kevin Starke's fledgling KStarke are the latest to revisit the track, uncovering a previously unheard 24 Track version that retains all the raw power of this seminal slice of Chicago house. This is matched on the flip by an equally exclusive remix from the elusive Trxmnn which tightens up the groove - though retains the roughness that permeates the original as well as twisting that distinct melody inside. Opting to snake between several rhythmic directions it's one of the more unhinged takes on "No Way Back" out there and definitely worthy of further investigation.

Trax 25 vs DJ History Vol 3: Trax Re Edited
Cat: HURTLP 098-3. Rel: 04 Feb 11
Adonis - "Down The House" (Toby Tobias & Hardway Bros remix)
Willie Wonka - "What Is House" (Andy Blake edit)
Ron Hardy - "Sensation" (Richard Sen edit)
Mr Lee - "Pump Up Chicago" (JD Twitch edit)
Review: Whilst all the vinyl samplers for this DJ History curated Trax Re-edit compilation are worth investigating, it's perhaps this third volume that screams essential the most by virtue of the presence of JD Twitch, Andy Blake, Richard Sen, Toby Tobias and Hardway Bros as the resident re-editors. Nor do they disappoint either as Hardway Bros team up with Rekids type Tobias and introduce some driving energetic synth patterns into Adonis' "We're Rocking Down This House" as well as embellishing the bottom end for a modern day warehouse thumper. Equally good is Cave Painter Andy Blake teasing out the rubbery off kilter undertones to Willy Wonka's spoken word drum machine thriller "What Is House" whilst retaining the raw, stuttering core. On the flip, Richard Sen goes deep on the signature synth stabs to Ron Hardy's "Sensation" which will destroy the more discerning dancefloors out there. Finally JD Twitch strips Mr. Lee's "Pump Up Chicago" of its really quite silly overtones and twists the track into a brilliantly hypnotic and menacing acid tinged late night jacker
