Each one is utterly unique to the game and each one comes laden with beautiful soothing atmospheres delicately coloured with ponderous and whimsical melodies that will distract you from whatever you are doing they are so gorgeous. This is music to get lost in and it comes with superbly serene artwork from Andre Rodrigues.

Review: Jackie Ross had a storied career that began when the great Sam Cooke recruited her for his SAR label in 1962. After that, she went on to sing with Syl Johnston's band and sign with the notorious Chess label in 1964. It was there she dropped her biggest hit 'Selfish One', which reached number 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, before many more tunes came on the likes of Brunswick and others. Her 1980 album A New Beginning For was produced by Chicago soul scene mainstay James Van Lear and now gets its first reissue courtesy of P-Vine. It shows the range and depth of emotion Jackie could tap into with a mix of slow motion stirrers and more funky and upbeat numbers.

Review: Miami born Robert Rockwell III is an American jazz saxophonist who has lived in Denmark since the 80s. He's put out several albums but few reach the obscure and spaced out jazz highs as this one, Androids, from 1974. It was his debut record was recorded with Bobby Lyle on piano and electric piano. Each of the tunes has a foundational groove that keeps you locked in while the reeds and melodies take you on all manner of wild adventures. This one comes on nice 180g vinyl so it sounds super sharp.

Review: Ruby & the Mudflaps were a funk group active throughout the seventies. Many of their best tunes have never before been pressed to vinyl and that is what motivates this new collection. Breezy. It is a superb collection of the band's best studio cuts alongside a number of live recordings, all made back in the seventies. These tunes are exclusive to the Cordial Recordings label and are new to vinyl aside from 'Is That Enough?' which the label put out on a 7" in 2018. The glorious title tune is a great one to kick off with and the funk levels do not dip from there.

The sounds flow freely, the pianos are quick and lively as fingers dart about the keys and the constant ticking of the drums and weight of the double bass keep things rooted in the here and now. A sublime sound for sure.

Review: British jazz composer and trumpeter Emma Rawicz names her album title after the Greek word for colour or paint, signifying the fact that she is a synesthete - in other words, she always involuntarily and simultaneously experiences music through a second sensory pathway, colour. The condition of synesthesia is historically a perceptual puzzle that has still yet to be solved, but Rawicz basks in it here with a wonderfully impressive LP of freeform jazz. All of the tracks, with one exception, are named after relatively little-known colours, making for a wide-ranging, tolerant and thus universally harmonious debut.

Review: Sound artist, sax player and composer Matana Roberts continues to explore her family history and African American heritage through experimental music and storytelling, on the fifth instalment of the acclaimed Coin Coin series. As with her prior works, the album is a sonic collage of personal archival recordings, spoken word, and free instrumental improvisations, all adding up to, and erring towards, a truly liberated sonic recollection of her own past. Throughout, snippets of recorded dialogue murmur away in the low background, as a compelling quietude of noir jazz vignettes whirl around in the hazy forefront, exploring the central theme of a particularly traumatic event in her family line.
