  1. Mimis (5:15)
  2. Helfand (5:31)
  3. Adax_PCP (6:06)
  4. Scalex (4:42)
Review: The Axces label began last year with a split 12" from Kasper Marott and Alfredo92, and now the latter returns to the label he founded to present a full EP of interlocking electronics with an experimental, home-listening slant. "Mimis" centres around some wonderfully sculpted rhythms and a tasteful dose of dub processing, while "Helfand" takes things further out with dislocated machine chatter and bongo triggering that moves like electro without the 808 backbone. "Adax_PCP" is a crafty slice of crooked techno that plays out with a live, jammed vibe and a jazzy key refrain that brings some noticeable humanity into the track, and then "Scalex" completes the set with further synthetic wobbles around fractured rhythms that look beyond genre conventions to create something truly fresh.

  4. Arvo's Sound Speech (Carl Finlow Slinky Deep remix) (6:14)
Review: Some proper UK electro here courtesy of ARA-U, a Venezuelan producer based in London. With a previous release coming out on Keith Tenniswood's AFT (on which he collaborated with him under his legendary Radioactive Man alias), it's a sound characterised by pure machine funk, with his inaugural release coming out on his new label No Static. From the raw voltage of haunting downtempo journey "Black Hole' to the breakneck acid electro funk of "Disintegration" the A side definitely does the business. On the flip, "Arvo's Sound Speech" is a total boomer on its own merit, but next up receives a "Slinky Deep Remix" by the ever reliable Carl Finlow - whose idiosyncratic style of dystopia takes it to another level.

Review: London-based Specimen Records presents a limited edition vinyl release, showcasing some distinct and refined electro producers. Belgium's Arsonist Recorder (ZwaarteKracht) serves up some dark electro bass in the most fierce and futuristic style on opener "React", while the daunting dystopia of Sound Synthesis' "60 Minute Bleeps" will now doubt bear comparisons to Offenbach legend Anthony Rother. On the flip, Francois Dillinger goes for a more off-kilter and experimental vibe on his fascinating contribution "Humans Among Us" and the ever impressive Gaetan V. aka Datawave lunges straight for the jugular on the nefarious beats of "Genotype 1".

Review: Following releases from Marquis Hawkes, Francis Harris and Hamatsuki, Georgia's Horoom label showcases some local talent. Gacha Bakradze is a rising talent on an international level, having recently appeared on Fever AM, but here he channels a sound that should find favour with fans of fellow Georgian talent HVL. Dubby atmospheres and snaking percussive rollers abound, with a hint of UK hardcore and jungle influence lurking in the middle distance but deployed with care. Subtlety is key here, as Bakradze unfurls immersive cuts with a restrained power to take the dancefloor to some truly transcendental places.

Review: Black Cadmium first came to our attention last year thanks to their rather good collaboration with Kevin Ney on Afro Deep ("The Nasty"). Here the Rotterdam duo offers up their first full EP, which also doubles as the debut release on Dutch imprint Vault Wax. There's plenty to tingle the senses from the word go, with opener "Muted Chaos" offering a clandestine mixture of chunky electro beats, buzzing riffs, intergalactic electronic pulses and winding acid lines. The fun doesn't stop there though, with the acid-fired ghetto-house bounce of "Get That Booty" and the deep techno dreaminess of closing cut "Stairway" also hitting impressive heights.

  1. Flutta (5:32)
  2. Rashaba (5:54)
  3. Runnin' (6:03)
  4. Narroways (5:34)
Review: The latest drop on Constant Sound's electro branch, Infiltrate, comes from wild-card Bristolian chameleon Borai. When he's not dropping tuff, jungle-hewed rave wreckers for Hotline and Higher Level he's collaborating with October on refined house bumpers or dread-filled noise excursions in Spiritflesh. As if that wasn't enough, here he is turning his hand to genuinely fresh twists on the electro formula - a breath of fresh air in a crowded marketplace. "Flutta" keeps things snappy and decidedly pacey, but the overall mood is really quite light, while on "Rashaba" things get much darker, to an almost theatrical degree. Some of that breakbeat ruffness sneaks in on "Runnin" and then a little garage swing offsets the dubbed out showers of melody and cheeky rave stabs on EP closer "Narroways". Stunning stuff.

Review: Since first landing on earth three years ago, Distant Worlds has offered up a slew of suitably intergalactic techno and electro EPs from the likes of John Shima, Derek Carr, Perseus Traxx and Mihail P. Here they add a new name to the roster via a rock solid EP from sometime Lunar Disko regular Cignol. The producer's ability to wrest maximum emotion from his machines is exemplified by opener "Guidance Release", where melancholic pads and twisted, razor-sharp acid lines envelop a deep electro groove. It's there too in the warmer and more positive-sounding melodiousness of "Galactic Neighbourhood" and "Modularity", which sounds like the Junior Boys and Morgan Giest jamming with Gerard Hanson.

Review: Texas-based electro stalwart Cygnus first appeared on Craigie Knowes back in 2018 via a contribution to the Scottish label's third annual "War Child Fundraiser" release. Here he returns to the imprint for a label debut proper that also marks the prolific producer's first outing of 2020. There's much to enjoy amongst the five tracks, from the rumbling bass, 1990 style bleeps and gentle electro beats of "Ebony Starlight", to the sludgy experimental analogue wonkiness of "Metroid C64" and the bustling sci-fi funk of "Votoms". Arguably best of all though is "Connection Error", a delightfully positive, melodious and emotive club electro jam that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

  3. He Told Me Bullshit (Arno & He Was Right remix) (8:01)
Review: DB Jam is a mysterious new project that kicks off Half Baked's 2020 in style with an EP of reduced, refined grooves in keeping with the London institution's firmly established identity. "I Met A Leprechaun In A Russian Forest" is a psychotropic trip marked out by tunneling synth lines and heavy washes of reverbed voices - the perfect dissociative anthem. "He Told Me Bullshit" keeps things simmering under the surface with a crisp, pattering beat and plenty of intricacy kinked into the bassline. Arno's remix of "He Told Me Bullshit" refigures the original into an electro-tinted broken techno workout that maintains the trippy vibe but adds swathes more texture into the mix for a wholly different kind of transcendence.

Review: The latest release on Orson welcomes a true electro stalwart - the mighty DeFeKT. Matthew Flanagan's commitment to the sound has been mightily impressive, and so it continues on this frankly stunning EP. Flanagan is sounding more upbeat than ever on "Flow To It", a joyous summertime electro funk freakout which Transparent Sound ably twist up into a more mechanised dancefloor weapon. "Double Tap" keeps the resplendent melodies front and centre, while also providing ample space for the DeFeKT brand of rave firepower, and then "Hour Zero" ups the ante with some strafing arps that don't let up for the duration.

Review: It has been two years since Jupiter4 put out the first part of their The Sapcy Saga series, but the follow up doesn't disappoint. Across six blistering tracks, a top notch selection of producers from around the globe turn out no nonsense electro tracks. The punk spirited Drvg Cvltvre goes for an industrial banger to open up while elsewhere Aquatronics - "Hydrosaurus" is all slippery hi hats, metallic hits and hi speed bass. Datawave goes dark to start off the flip side with some sludgy electronics, Jack Rowland stays slow and low with his paranoid and dubby trip and Psynote showcases some bumpy drum programming to get you in the groove.

This release is her first for Violet's Lisbon-based imprint Naive, and follows her 2019 release "emo_ecstasy_everything" on their experimental sub-label Naivety. Eloquently described as "a melodic ode to melancholy moments spent in clubs and broken romances captured in the snapshots of a strobe", UK club sounds of various eras definitely permeate these tracks. From the intoxicating slo-mo bass of "Gotchu" to the cheeky 2-stepper "Put On Our Classics" or the classic house throwback sounds of "End Of The Nite". All life-affirming vocals and hands in the air pianos that hark back to the namesake of the EP's title.

Review: Under the E.R.P. alias, Gerard Hanson has been making some of the finest intergalactic electro known to humankind since the tail end of the 1990s. His catalogue is meaty and some of his older, out-of-press records are now frustratingly hard to find - hence this tidy double-pack from Frustrated Funk. It includes all three tracks from Hanson's 2007 label debut, "Vox Automaton" - the body-popping brilliance of the title track, the Drexciya style underwater trip of "Nerve Play" and the deep electro lusciousness of "Parfume Persuasion" - as well as the trio of cuts originally released on the "Alsoran" from the same years. These are arguably even better, with the melodious, cinematic and futuristic title track, and wonderfully poignant "Irma" standing out. Exceptional.

Review: After first emerging in 2018, hitherto unknown London name The Forgotten Man returns for a second EP on their own noctu recordings, delving into the arcane language of intricate machine soul spanning the deeper end of techno and electro. The EP opens up with "Pulser", an uplifting, acid tinged 4/4 jam with resplendent synth work spilling out of every pore. "Sky Birds Of Ki" takes a more broken rhythm template, but keeps the effervescent melodic content squarely in the foreground. "Beyond Sector 9" takes things cool and intricate, capturing a little of the magic you'd expect from classic Metamatics in the process.

"Lotus Turbo" is a squelchy electro workout with kick drums to die for. CCL and Flora FM then come together for "Iridescent Lake", an utterly wild drum workout that will blow your socks off. London based brothers Ed and Rob work together as Paper on the old school bleep techno cut "Beaman" before Silene rounds things out with "Jiro", the most experimental of the lot thanks to its hall of mirror feel, slithering synths and jerking rhythms. Recent appearances for the likes of FireScope and Rawax have equally affirmed his position at the forefront of his field nearly 30 years after first emerging. The standard is no lower on this new release for Subconscious Algorithms, which kicks off with the Detroit-styled delights of "Photoa" before melting into the mellow brain food of "End Of Doubt". "Dromedary" brings some luscious acid sounds into the melodic mix, and "16 Hours" completes the set with an elegant trip through pin-prick electro for the after-hours set.

Review: Given that Gnork contributed a track to Earth Plates' debut release - a multi-artist EP that didn't take long to sell out - it's little surprise to see him flying solo on the label's delayed second 12". Title track "Lost In X" is typical of his dreamy, bustling, breakbeat-driven retro-futurist sound, with stabbing electro bass, fluttering synthesizer sounds and swelling chords clustering around a snappy groove. He flips the script on deep, sugary and melodious electro cut "Ur So Fkn Good", before fusing vintage Orbital, LFO and Joey Beltram style sounds on "Tears & Bleeps". Arguably best of all though is "Rays", which sounds like Larry Heard jamming with the Irresistible Force at sunrise.

This comes just ahead of further outings on Blkmarket and after split EPs on this label in cahoots with Brighton-based Furthur Electronix. Opener "Without You" is an old school gem with deadpan vocal delivery and cold, stark chord sequences. Things get more unhinged on the freewheeling "The Key Holder" and acid laced "The Above" before an all out intergalactic assault on the kinetic drum programming of "Enter You." Cosmic influences take hold later on and mark this out as an accomplished package indeed.

Review: New York's Blkmarket has long been one of the city's finest underground parties. headed up by Taimur, it is now a fledgling label that is proving just as essential. The sixth outing is a new collaboration between electro producer Gosub and the boss himself. Up first is a tunnelling bit of deep, late night techno that is all about getting you lost in the groove and tripped out by the busy synth squiggles.
