Opacity (HVL mix) (limited 12" in embossed sleeve)
Cat: TESUJI 4. Rel: 05 Apr 19
  1. Opacity (7:52)
  2. Opacity (HVL Reinterpretation) (7:30)
Review: Dead Fader jumps from Kimochi Sound over to Tesuji with a rolling, dreamy, euphoric rendition of future electro. Essential, optimistic, forward-thinking. On the other side, Bassiani's HVL flips the beat on its head for more ominous perspective, complete with klaxon acid line and sinewy breakbeats.

Mind Of The Master II: Clone EP
  1. Mind Of The Master (4:49)
  2. Clones (4:24)
  3. Mind Of The Master II (4:44)
  4. 7 Inteference (2:19)
Review: DJ Di'jital is Detroit legend Lamont Norwood, who originally joined local legends Aux 88 as their DJ in the early '90s before releasing his own jams for their esteemed Direct Beat imprint, DJ Godfather's Twilight 76 and his own Di'jital Axcess. Rawax Motor City Edition re-issue his 2013 release The Mind Of The Master II - Clone EP, originally made available in digital format but now seeing the day on vinyl. For anyone with a new found interest in the electro sound; this guy's the real deal and you need to check this out! Starting out with the breakneck aquatic electro-funk of the title tracks on the A side, the B side offerings are "Mind Of The Master II" (sounds reminiscent of early Cybotron and with clever sampling of the film Hellraiser) while "7 Interference" is for the most part a raw drum machine workout and great DJ tool.

Androidika
Androidika (coloured vinyl 12")
Cat: DA 009. Rel: 29 Aug 17
  1. DJ Dijital - "Androidika" (4:25)
  2. DJ Dijital - "Detroit Conspiracy Beats" (11:07)
  3. Will Web - "Humanity Nill" (8:51)
Review: DJ Di'jital's Digital Axcess imprint is as singular as it is single-minded. The US producer has been pushing hard, mind-bending electro since 2012, and he's clearly not going to be stopping that anytime soon. This new three-tracker is a nifty slice of metallic dance slaughter for fans of the classic Detroit sound, kicking off with the aggressive kick-snare patters of "Androidika", a tune that slices its way across the room with malevolence and which falls neatly into the equally pumped-up bass stabs of the weightier "Detroit Conspiracy Beats". Will Webb makes an appearance on the flip, coming through with a more broken beat loop that has something veritably UK at its core - pure industrial evil.

Harnessed The Storm
Cat: TRESOR 10181LP. Rel: 20 Oct 10
  1. Digital Tsunami
  2. Soul Of The Sea
  3. Dr Blowfins Black Storm Stabilizing Spheres
  4. Song Of The Green Whale
  5. Lake Haze
  6. Mission To Ociya Syndor & Back
  7. Under Sea Disturbances
Review: A big Juno bear hug goes to the folks from Tresor for releasing a string of sublime re-issues this year. The latest is Drexciya's seminal Harnessed The Storm long player, generally a much darker affair than Neptune's Lair, which itself was reissued earlier this year. It is hallmarked by longer, more exploratory tracks, full of sinister twists and turns. The stormy electro thunder of "Digital Tsunami" is perhaps the standout moment here, closely followed by the subterranean squelch of "Soul Of The Sea". "Dr Blowfins Black Storm Stabilizing Spheres" has an eerie crackle that predates the current vogue for dark atmospheric techno by nearly a decade, while the robotic key melody on "Song Of The Green Whale" marks it as the LP's most playful moment. Highly recommended for electro and techno purists alike.

MOON EP
MOON EP (12")
Cat: WRONGISLAND 1. Rel: 10 Jul 13
  1. Paris
  2. Crystals
  3. Hydrogen
  4. Release
Review: Formed out of the Glasgow club night of the near same name, Wrong Island Communications launches in wonderful fashion with this eponymously titled record from M O O N. The awkward to type on a keyboard M O O N is the artist name of 18 year old Bostonian Stephen Gilarde who counts as his uncle the grizzly head of all things DFA Mr James Murphy! Having self released this four track EP digitally last year, Wrong Island subsequently licensed the material to launch their label as well as snaring two further EPs from Gilarde that are due for release over the next twelve months. Recorded on some brand new second hand material gifted to him by the Juan Maclean, Gilarde's compositional talent is obvious from the Syclops in anti gravity mode stylings of opening track "Paris". The deranged punk funk of "Hydrogen" is as good as anything his uncle signed to DFA in their pomp. Limited to 100 copies, this debut Wrong Island transmission is made all the more special by a picture sleeve designed by Madison McKenna and an A4 insert detailing the label's future plans.

The Sentient City Awakens
Cat: SEM 054. Rel: 04 Jul 19
  1. Inward Stream (6:29)
  2. Twilight Sequence (6:17)
  3. Hydro Subway (5:48)
  4. Bioluminiscent Trees (5:28)
  5. Frond Of Stars (3:10)
Review: Although Emile Facey has been producing as Plant 43 for roughly six years, the UK producer appears to be in a rich vein of form right now. Having debuted in impressive fashion on Dutch label Frustrated funk earlier this year, Plant 43 resurfaces on Semantica with this equally worthy five track 12" The Sentient City Awakens. No stranger to Svreca's label having first graced Semantica last year, this record will please Plant 43 fans no end, with "Inward Stream" and "Hydro Subway" showing equal reverence to melody and booming percussion that few other current electro practitioners can match. Concluding production "Frond Of Stars" is beautifully epic.

Poly Schematic EP
Cat: RMCE 009. Rel: 30 Apr 18
  1. Polyflux (9:27)
  2. Polytics (4:35)
  3. Polyfanatic (7:42)
  4. Poly Schematic (5:59)
Review: Rawax Motor City Edition is just one more great move to have come from the parent label, Rawax, as it offers us new and exclusive house and techno from the best emerging talents out there; the reissue game can get a little political at times, so we always prefer to hear the goods from the source direct. Polyfan Polyphenix comes through with a certain confidence that has been lacking form the recent elector onslaught, touching down with plenty of thick beats, dusty breaks and, of course, an unlimited supply of rumbling bass lines that recall the likes of Drexciya and anything Gerald Simpson-related. However, tunes like "Polyfanatic" or "Polytics" are very much grounded in their own mystique, blending up German tech with all sorts of elastic electro aesthetics from both the US and EU spectrum. BOMBS.

Figuration EP
  1. R&S - "Figuration" (11:43)
  2. B&S - "Another State Of Mind" (9:35)
  3. R&S - "Yellow Rug" (4:05)
Review: The latest missive on Rawax's Motor City Edition offshoot doesn't come from Detroit, but rather experienced German trio Patrick Raddatz, Robin Scholz and Philipp Boss. The latter joins forces with Scholz as B&S on the wonderfully meandering "Another State of Mind", a 10-minute exploration of deep electro bristling with fluid ambient synths, spacey electro melodies and languid lines. It's reminiscent of some of Convextion's more ambient-leaning escapades, which is rich praise. The other two tracks come from Raddatz and Scholz. They too, explore undulating, intelligent techno-era ambience on "Yellow Rug", but it's the epic acid/electro fusion of Drexciya style shuffler "Figuration" that stands out.
