Review: Some six years after debuting via a deliciously angular and energetic EP from Jaquarius and Mono-Enzyme 307, the Acid Avengers imprint notches up release number 20. Like most of the label's EPs, it's a multi-artist affair. Sometime Balkan Vinyl and Bass Assault artist Acidulant handles side A, bouncing between rushing, piano-sporting 1992 hardcore revivalism ('Super Rave'), sub-heavy deep electro haziness ('Save The Last Rave') and throbbing, arpeggio driven trance/breakbeat techno fusion ('Hauz Trax'). Voiron, who last graced the label back in 2016, takes over on the flip. The Paris-based producer first fuses glistening, spacey melodies, twisted acid lines, post-electro beats and dirty bass on 'Bon Kick Voiron', before opting for deep acid house on 'Digital Voiron Workstation' and atmospheric, Orbital-meets-'90s tech-house on 'Sugar Voiron'.

Review: Human Behind Pluto, johnfaustus and VSO all contuse to this new split red vinyl from Zodiak Communte. Human Behind Pluto goes first with a warp speed, electro-tinged techno track that has a knack-snapping beat and brilliantly mangled acid line. Johnfaustus's 'Red Sonjia' is dark and twisted electro from the underworld and VSO offers two sick jams: 'Sinking' is a bumping and coruscated bit of electro-crunk and 'Complacency' is a dense full flavour cosmic assault with fearless drum programming and plenty of suspenseful synths. This one takes no prisoners and comes with its own unique insert.

Review: Jersey City-based Jorge Velez has long been one of the US underground's most revered figures to those in the know. Largely predating the current fascination with lo-fi analogue productions, something shown on the excellent MMT Tape Series compilation which delved into his early archives, his work as Professor Genuis on Italians Do It Better and Thisisnotanexit was followed by the conceptual Hassan LP on L.I.E.S. which provided a soundtrack to an imaginary film based on a shadowy Middle Eastern cult formed in the 11th century. Here Velez return to Ron Morelli's stable with Territories, a six-track LP that passes through "menacing drones to EBM influenced floor tracks to Sakamoto-esque melodic experiments," with a "distinct atmosphere suitable for home listening or adventurous club play." Even for those who are familiar with the odd structures Velez creates with his hardware, this is a wild trip worthy of much closer inspection.

Review: Nuances De Nuit hits the mini-milestone of release number 10 here and does it in a standout fashion. Velvet Velour is behind the music and the opener 'Can You Feel It' is a superbly colourful house cut with futuristic neon lines and serene grooves. 'First Filter' keeps up the freshness with more vivid synth colours, balmy cosmic chords and silky drum programming and 'Cloud Beats' then gets more off-grid with its drums. This most delicious and vibrant EP closes with another cosmic surfer in 'A New Leaf.' Lovely stuff.

'Copepods' opens up with far-sighted and sustained chords that speak of a future metropolis and 'Ultraviolet' then rides a lush broken rhythm and has melodies that glow like fireflies. Review: A year on from the first installment, French electro stable Partout are back with a second volume of Everywhere, introducing the world to more of their deep cover operators working their studios in pursuit of machine funk perfection. AV1 leads with some trippy acid goodness, while Binh Baggs has a techier intention. The Trots bring something ghoulish and nasty to the table with 'Pelusa', while Yate plays around with trancey tropes in a gnarly rave context. There's bags of personality spilling out of these tracks, confirming Partout as a reliable destination for refreshing approaches to the electro-techno tradition.

Review: Byakku: Tai Braindance is a welcome collaboration between two retro-futurist imprints, '90s IDM revivalists Childhood Intelligence (an organization run from Berlin and Tokyo) and London-based bleep, acid, rave and hardcore specialists Tone Dropout. In-keeping with the label's ethos, the eight tracks on show offer an excellent exploration of the electro spectrum. Highlights arrive thick and fast throughout, from the bleeping melodies, moody chords, squiggly acid motifs and electro-not-electro beats of 'Bufo Bufo' by Steelworks, and the bustling electro-bleep revivalism of Unai Trotti's 'Tuesday Jam', to the clanking IDM-with-bells-on bustle of Rei Loci's 'Worlds Collide' and the star-fall, hardware-driven deep house-meets-deep electro wonder of Stinkworx's quietly brilliant 'Thimble of Dew'. Review: It was a while ago now that Spanish label Frigio dropped the fourth instalment of this series - back in October 2021, in fact. But as big time breakbeat lovers we're glad they have cooked us up another serving. This fifth edition doesn't muck about either with the crashing jungle intensity of Starhawk & Friends's 'X-22' opening up. There is French rap over more crunchy analogue drums on Rambal Cochet's 'Metacortex' manic industrial electro noise on Jack Carel's contribution and an ice cold sense of cold wave funk to Neud Photo's standout 'Spark Knock.' Review: Music Pour La Danse co-founders Olivier Ducret and Eric 'Bunkerheadz' Hart are both massive fans of turn of the 90s bleep & bass and early breakbeat hardcore, so it's little surprise that they've put together an impressive, two-volume showcase of some of their favourites. The collection was mastered by Forgemasters man Rob Gordon, boasts design from Trevor Jackson and sleeve notes from Matt Anniss (author of bleep bible 'Join The Future'), but it's the quality of the track list that impresses most. Highlights include the sub-heavy electro/bleep/breaks fusion of R-Solution's ludicrously rare 'Blowing My Mind', Unique 3's brilliant - and oten overlooked - 'Digicality', a surprise deep bleep shuffler from A Man Called Adam, and Biosphere's incredible 'Baby Satellite'.

Review: Barcelona's Nebulae label continues its ongoing exploration of all things ambient, IDM, electro and techno with another mindful album of sublime sonics, this time from a selection of heady musical cosmonauts. There is nice deep and bendy acid to open with then some silky smooth cosmic jungle from Black Rings Under My Eyes that really is top-notch. Zeta Reticula brings some texture to the party as well as crunchy breaks on 'The Planetoid' and then comes lithe electro, supple deep space techno, some intergalactic turbulence from Adhesive and two more rich astral soundscapes married to inventive rhythms. Review: Aside from the founding fathers of acid house - DJ Pierre in particular - few producers can make a Roland TB-303 sing quite like Luke Vibert. That much has been obvious for decades but should further proof of Vibert's '303' mastery be needed, 'Machine Funk' provides it. An exemplary exploration of 'acid' as an art-form that puts the distinctively twisted, mind-altering sounds of the legendary bass synthesiser front and centre, the 11-track set skips between breathless, sub-heavy, bongo-laced monsters ('Taming of the View'), slo-mo IDM ('Lucon Acid'), dreamy mid-tempo house ('Nonce Tarter'), acid-disco of the sort associated with Vibert's Kerrier District project ('Juxtafication'), and plenty of punchy, suitably psychedelic electro jams.
