Cat: WORMO 21. Rel: 31 Oct 19
  1. Diode - "06Funk" (5:41)
  2. Diode - "Waterhole" (6:50)
  3. Grumptronix - "The Witching Hour" (9:04)
Review: Wormhole Wisdom's next three outings are reissues of Diode material that has become hugely sought after, as well as including Grumptronix's previously unheard tune "The Witching Hour": it is a brilliantly haunting electro tune with an eerie baseline echoing out into an empty sky while busy drums shuffle and wiggle in the foreground. As for Diode, "06Funk" is an elastic electro track with whip-snapping hits and sci-fi pads that tie you in knots, while "Waterhole" is a more thoughtful and insular track thanks to the gentle undulations of acid and melancholic chords that dampen down the icy hi hats.

  3. Coming Up For Air (5:07)
  4. Mechanistic Control Fantasies (3:28)
  5. Terminal Phase (3:02)
Review: Following fine releases on Shipwrec, Natural Sciences and Return To Disorder, masked electro/techno misfit Galaxian (real name Mark Kastner) makes his first appearance on Ilian Tape. The Glasgow-based producer starts in suitably big fashion via "External Observer", where what sounds like an orchestra of synthesizers gets to work over a skittish, bass-heavy electro beat, before exploring more dystopian dancefloor pastures on the moody, alien-sounding and otherworldly "Fuzzy Clouds Of Potential Existence". On side B he gives his out-there interpretation of early jungle ("Coming Up For Air"), batters a broken computer into submission and makes electro gold out of it (the slightly melancholic "Mechanistic Control Fantasies") and soundtracks the end of days (or possibly Brexit) on weirdo closing cut "Terminal Phase".

  1. Automatic Illusion (6:17)
  2. No Way Out (4:58)
  3. Bad Intel (5:37)
  4. Fata M (6:22)
Review: Rotterdam based DJ Gamma Intel returns to Brokntoys with his third EP. The ascendant producer claims to be a composer of electronic beauty: form, harmony and expression of emotion - a very self-assuring call but we're definitely feeling it across the four tracks on offer here. From the deeper shades of dystopia as heard on the brooding title track, main room tackle on "Bad Intel" with its booming (and bass-heavy) sci-fi vibe, to the hypnotic and minimal breaks of "Fata M" rounding out a killer EP. He claims that this is a good moment to reflect on where he came from and where he is now - we concur!
