Review: The DDS label, short for Distort Decay Sustain, has given artists like Demdike Stare a platform on which to express themselves through over the years, but it was really Equiknoxx's LP from 2016, Bird Sound Power, which opened their doors to a whole new category of listener. In fact, it was that LP, with all its stunning, dub-wise experimentation, which has led to Mark Ernestus being called up for a pair of remixes. As you probably know, this is a rare case, so this 12" is sort of a special piece - "Congo Get Slap" is given the pure Ernestus rundown, with a charging, minimalistic percussion being swallowed whole by the raucous dub stabs caving in from all angles; the remix of "Flagged Up" is a much slower, more brooding affair in the same vein as the mythical cuts residing on imprints like Basic Channel and Chain Reaction - nothing but deep, meditative dub flexing for the mind. Review: This new 45rpm single on Humble Action includes the original version of 'Musical Healers' by Hummingbird as well as a remix by Aryeh Yah. The a-side version is a nice twisted dancehall cut with some hot stepping rhythms that sound like they could well have been sampled by The Streets at some time. It's a future sounding cut even now with its sleek synth leads. It's a real trip too at over eight minutes long, and the remix is no less adventurous but has a more heavy low end.

Review: Quite when Record Store Day starts and ends amidst all the vinyl delays we're all suffering from is anyone's guess these days. But this is a record set for that celebration of all things waxy and it is a limited 10" with tracks by Edi Fitzroy and DATC Dubcrew which were all produced by Mikey Dread. It comes on hand numbered copies on solid red, solid green and solid gold coloured vinyl. 'The Gun' kicks off with withering synth work and fat rolling rhythms before 'Invasion' sinks into a much slower, deeper dub. Flipside versions offer more rib rattling bass and pillowy drum

Review: Easy Star All Stars are known for their dub versions of the pinnacle of classic rock albums out there - think Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. Their latest project, though, is Ziggy Stardub, which you could probably guess is a tribute to the late David Bowie and his alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Produced by Michael Goldwasser, the All Stars reinterpret some of Bowie's most renowned songs in a highly effected dub style, remaining respectful to the original while producing a slew of homages: the likes of 'Five Years', 'All The Young Dudes' and 'Starman', as well as non-hits such as 'Suffragette City', not to mention four new dub versions. The All Stars make evident their love and admiration for Bowie's music, to the extent that we think you couldn't have made this LP without a genuine Bowiemania held in your heart.

Review: Jackie Edwards is like catnip for reggae lovers and the good news is that two of his albums are being reissued. Original Mr Cool Ruler has never been reissued on vinyl before and is a classic from 1983 that was recorded by Scientist and produced by Bunny Lee - two serious heavyweights of the scene. Musicians featured on the album include some of Jamaica's best - Sly & Robbie, Jackie Mittoo, Winston Wright and Earl Chinna Smith. As well as his solo work, Edwards - who had chart-topping singles in Jamaica in the 60s - also worked with The Aggravators and recorded duets with Millie Small.

Review: Prince Istari's earliest memories are of his mother playing the tranquil melodies of Erik Satie's pieces on the piano. Skipping school, he'd bask in the sun, absorbed by the serene tunes and years later in 2024, rediscovering his mother's sheet music sparked a creative resurgence. He transformed them into dub versions, crafting a tapestry of sound, and each piece's form dictated its direction, evolving from heavy dub to delicate piano and synthesiser blends. The finale, a relic from his past as Istari Lasterfahrer, features a distorted recording of his mother playing Satie to complete the circle. This special record comes in limited quantities of just 200 copies.
