Review: Poland-born but now residing in London, sibling duo Kompozyt has pulled off something of a coup by securing the talents of mad-as-a-brush dub legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry to appear on "Hidden Force". His familiar Jamaican drawl naturally comes to the fore, ricocheting above a head-nodding future dub rhythm that should appeal to fans of both dubstep and dub techno as well as full-on dub-heads. Almost as impressive is the slightly more experimental and trippy B-side, "Homesick", where echoing orchestral sweeps and distant trumpet solos bob in and out of a sea of pitched-down dub techno textures. Don't miss out on this one - it really is rather good.

Review: The last album the mighty Lee Scratch Perry recorded before he died was Heaven, freshly released on Burning Sounds and leaving us with a lasting memory of his indelible influence on modern music. Review: The late, great Lee Scratch Perry is sure to love on forever given the vast size of his masterful and genre defining oeuvre. It helped to soundtrack a generation both with his own solo work as well as the production he did for others in his acclaimed studio. Here we find him laying down his trademark vocal mutterings over a rhythm by his famous backing band The Upsetters. It's full of ricocheting hits and snaking hi hats, rumbling bass and loose drums. On the flip, The 18th Parallel rework it into 'Spring Thunderstorm,' a slightly more roomy dub version that still hits hard.

Review: The eclectic Canadian superproject New Age Doom are pretty un-pin-downable, with their contributing band members including Bowie Blackstar bandleader Donny McCaslin, and bassist Tim Lefebvre. While their last album was a drone metal epic known as 'Himalayan Dream Techno', their latest is a dub-inflected curveball, dedicated to the mastery over space and atmospherics commanded by the late producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Remix The Universe is a compilation of new perspectives on their final collaborative album, 'Lee 'Scratch' Perry's Guide to the Universe'. If ever we needed a spiritual guide for space exploration, Perry would be our go-to; it's evident from this short LP that Perry's influence is felt much further and wider than merely dub music, with gross-genre remixes from the likes of Daryl Palumbo, Quicksand, Tuvaband, Nick Reinhart and Andy Morin all in tow.

Review: Given the success of Tales From The Observatory, the first hook-up between Alex Paterson and bonkers dub legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry, it's perhaps unsurprising that they've decided to do it all over again. Predictably, there are more echoes of Paterson's early '90s work (and particularly the excellent Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld) and plenty of nonsensical lyrics from the "Upsetter" himself. There are, though, surprise excursions - see the dreamy, Kompakt-influenced pulse of "Making Love in Dub" and heavy '70s dub style meanderings of "Don't Rush I" - and enough bright ideas to suggest that the project still has legs. This time round, they've also included a bunch of instrumentals, of which the dub techno-influenced "Fussball" stands out.

Review: Lee "Scratch" Perry, a Jamaican record producer, singer, and songwriter, is largely acclaimed for his innovative and experimental production techniques. His Black Ark Studio, established in the mid-1970s, became a renowned hub for reggae music production, fostering the talents of numerous artists. Perry's Black Ark studio was not merely a recording space but an alchemic laboratory where he conjured sonic masterpieces. With his use of tape loops, heavy reverb, and other unorthodox techniques, Perry created a distinct and hypnotic sound that transcended conventional reggae boundaries. Artists such as Bob Marley, the Wailers, and Max Romeo flocked to Black Ark to collaborate with Perry. In his studio, Perry's intuitive approach to music making blurred the lines between producer and artist. He considered himself a "musical doctor" whose role was to guide and inspire the musicians. The Black Ark became a sanctuary for musical experimentation, where artists were encouraged to explore their creativity freely. This vinyl has been out of print and completely unavailable until now.
