Inflorescence Pt 2
Inflorescence Pt 2 (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: WRX 11. Rel: 05 Aug 20
  1. ZBlossom (5:20)
  2. Away With The Fairies (8:04)
  3. On Me (5:48)
  4. Wiara (8:44)
Review: The big FS on Warehouse Rave to dark up the dance with the second part of his "Inflorescence" release. As always, it's a heavyweight affair... "ZBlossom" sets the agenda with a proper old school 93 type of feel. Big humming subs and twisted pitches on the breaks. It's backed by three more bumpy trips; "Away With The Fairies" is all about those early Krome & Time vibes, "On Me" is fast lane jazz that nods at the early 2000s Sao Paulo sound and shades of Soul:r while "Wiara" shuts us down on a straight up butt-wriggling jungle breakbeat vibe. Your mother warned you it's a Fiesta Soundsystem banger.

Two Twelve Tens EP
Cat: SCR 013. Rel: 21 Jul 20
  1. Hold It Together (6:20)
  2. Shake It (5:44)
  3. Let's Rave Together (6:41)
  4. Feel So Real (5:51)
Review: Sometimes all you need are "Two Twelve Tens". Obviously a mixer would be necessary to complete the party set but we're going to assume Hyperkinetic has already got one of them. They've already got the tunes, clearly... Four gigantic slabs of classic old school energy laced with classic samples galore, this one is a bulging bag of pure rave energy that would appeal to ravers aged both 50 and 15. Highlights include the RAF pitched up vocal and epic pianos of "We've Got To Rave Together" and the sweet positivity of "Hold It Together". Come together.

Knightsdale
Knightsdale (blue marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: MEDITATOR 022. Rel: 05 Aug 20
  1. Knightsdale (7:12)
  2. Smokers Mix (5:14)
Review: Who Dem Sound smash it again as J Robinson dons his Meditator alias to link with the mighty Ink. The result needs to be heard to be understood. A nod to the Goodlooking and early Creative Source influence, everything about "Kinghtsdale" twinkles and shimmers in that silky, rolling way that's half way between jazz school and Jupiter. Need a little more celestial oomph? Flip for the Smokers remix. Trust us, this is every bit as beautiful as the marbled vinyl suggests.

Play It Deejay Dub Mix
  1. Persian & DJ Texsta - "Play It Deejay" (dub mix) (5:23)
  2. Persian - "Questions" (edit 5) (4:02)
  3. Lone Wolf Persian (5:50)
  4. Lone Wolf Persian (dub) (5:21)
Review: Feeling full to bursting with nostalgia and an overwhelming desire to get dancefloors moving, Existence is Resistance main man Peter Riley AKA Person returns to action with more bass-heavy heaters. He begins by joining forces with DJ Texta on the weighty, skippy and organ-flecked speed garage revivalism of "Play It Deejay (Dub Mix)", before wrapping cymbal-heavy hardcore breakbeats in psychedelic acid lines, trippy vocal samples and deep space chords on "Questions (Edit 5)". Over on side B, he delivers a deliciously eccentric blend of infant spoken word vocals, bustling breakbeats, moody noises and ear-pleasing melodic elements on "Lone Wolf Persian". A slightly more spaced-out, vocal-free Dub mix completes a tasteful and tidy package.

Memories
Memories (1-sided 12")
Cat: RSTURBO 001. Rel: 21 Jul 20
  1. Memories (6:20)
Review: Anonymous artist on white label business; "Memories" is a powerful flashback to that magic crossover between 92 and 94 when rave music took some of its most dark and twisted turns. Hurricane breaks, treacle sub bass and paranoid pads, softened ever-so-slightly by a classic breathy vocal, this bangs with future promise now just like its earlier incarnations would have done almost 30 years ago. This should bring back some memories for you...

Cat: INT 059. Rel: 03 Aug 20
  1. 4Lyfe (4:52)
  2. Don't Rush (feat Artificial Intelligence) (4:35)
  3. So Much Better (4:52)
  4. Yin (4:31)
Review: Poland's finest D&B export Satl returns to Artificial Intelligence's Integral with this outstanding EP. As always, it spans a broad terrain from introspective soul ("Don't Rush") to heft chop-slapping, system tunes ("Yin") and all vibes in between, including the sunset gem "So Much Better" and a glacial title tune. All taken from the eight track digital release, these tunes will burn for a long time to come. Satl is "4Lyfe", not just for summer...

LORELTD 005
Cat: LORELTD 005. Rel: 03 Aug 20
  1. Television (5:28)
  2. The Kingdom (7:14)
  3. Deep Within There Is Nothing (5:09)
  4. Awkward Demise (6:34)
Review: Some folk are widow makers. Other folk are widow made. Bad to bone types who dish out breaks so brutal they should come with a medical health warning. Not that you'd pay much attention to it; beats like these are too good to miss out, regardless of health. Courtesy of Dead Man's Chest's Western Lore, it's four tracks of total rave annihilation; the bubble gun basslines of "Television", the icy unforgiveness of "The Kingdom", the prangy hardcore steps and swampy weirdness of "Deep Within There Is Nothing" and the dark finale "Awkward Demise". Some records are party starters. Other records are party made. Badness.

Pump Up The Feeling
Pump Up The Feeling (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: WRX 12. Rel: 05 Aug 20
  1. Concussion (4:49)
  2. Coordinated Love (5:31)
  3. Fatigue (7:08)
  4. It Was Us Or Them (7:48)
Review: Thuggy's up to his ravey tricks again. A man just as capable of pushing you off a cliff with his deadly hardcore bangers as he is flipping ATB's "Till I Come" into a breakbeat monster, anything is possible when this man's in town. Just like this killer EP on Warehouse Rave. From the deep, emotional, almost Orbitalesque intro track "Concussion" we're then hit by bouncy rave bubbles on "Coordinated Love", aquatic bewilderment on "Fatigue" and the pensive flighty finale "It Was Us Or Them". Thug life, Thug love.

The Wettening EP

  2. Eat Shit Bezos (6:12)
  3. Ride Snoop (8:17)
  4. Lagoon Dub (3:55)
  5. Liberating Music (3:50)
Review: The God of Discogs returns to Vivid... And this time it's soggy. As always with the Wetster, there's a handsome collection of sounds across the 12" as we run through some of jungle's finest ingredients. Highlights include the immense breakcraft and dubby washes of "Ride Snoop", the Detroit influences and shimmering depths of "Focus Is" and the immense space and delicious weirdness of "Lagoon Dub". All proceeds go to NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Former Self EP
Cat: NQ 017. Rel: 21 Jul 20
  1. Mango & MathMan - "Lonely Night" (feat Loah - Zero T vocal mix) (5:13)
  2. Zero T - "Moments Fade" (feat Steo) (4:31)
  3. Zero T - "I Want More" (4:32)
  4. Zero T & Myth - "Clash" (4:12)
Review: 2020 has been a toilet for us all but the sounds of Zero T on labels like Sofa Sound and Metalheadz has been a much needed silver lining. Upping his consistency even more than usual, every release is pure gold... Especially this new one on Lenzman's The North Quarter. "Lonely Night" sets the tone as he remixes Mango & Mathman with soulful style before linking up with old friend Steo for the piano-tickling "Moments Fade". Meanwhile on the B things get much darker and dancefloor-focused; "I Want More" is Zero T is total gully mode while "Clash" is the dubby roller of the set. All flavours, all vibes, one essential 12".
