Goldie, Jubei & Submotive - "Game Of The Gods" (6:44)
Submotive, Lenzman & Jubei - "Members Only" (4:50)
Review: Releases like this demonstrate the utter vanguard of British drum & bass. It's as if this were a G20 summit for some of the genre's most eminent lords, as we hear Goldie, Jubei, Submotive and Lenzman all team up for a four-way rampage. Both tunes on this lethal weapon, through well-placed Reeses and complex metallic snare rebounds, convey the mood of utter dark fantasy. The mood is that of being graced by the presence of monstrously regal higher sonic powers.

More Than I Can Take
Silhouette
Review: Some truly original and pleasantly soulful drum and bass from Dutchman Lenzman. "More Than I Can Take" keeps to a rigid half-pace but doesn't suffer from any loss of excitement thanks to some brilliant drum sequences. The mood is kept intense with some ominous synth pads and chopped female vocals. The appropriately named "Silhouette" features on the flipside and Lenzman lets loose with the drums a little more, whilst still preserving a uniquely soulful and - dare we say - IDM flavour. Definitely a must-hear tune if you like your D&B with a progressive edge.

My Tearz (feat Steo - Ulterior Motive remix) (6:00)
Just Can't Take (feat DRS - DBridge remix) (4:04)
Review: One of the many premiere league D&B artists to have emerged from The Netherlands, Lenzman galvanised seven years of production kudos with his stunning debut album last year on Metalheadz. Now comes the all-essential, star-studded remix EP as we're treated to rubs from some of the finest names in the game: Ivy Lab strip "Paper Places" right back to its soulful bones, man-of-the-moment LSB gets his Calibre on with velvet pads and unrelenting drums, Ulterior Motive flip "Tearz" into a brutal stepper with an array of bass wheezes and groans that sound like they've got a 40-a-day habit, while the legendary dBridge adds a sharp two-step to the perennial soul/jazz roller "Just Can't Take". Each one of them representing the true essence of remix, Metalheadz have put together something very special here.

Broken Dreams (Makoto remix)
Review: Metalheadz are on fire this year! Hot on the heels of Ulterior Motive's genre-busting elephantine EP comes this astonishingly beautiful roller from Lenzman. With big splashing cymbals on the breakbeats, taught string rises and a breathy vocal sample, it's Lenzman at his very best: vibrant but carefully underplayed. For extra soul flourishes, head for Makoto's remix of "Broken Dreams". Close your eyes and you could well be in-tune to an Innerground release. Big salute to all players involved.

My Tearz
My Tearz (12")
Cat: METALP 003S. Rel: 30 May 14
My Tearz (feat Steo)
Paper Faces (feat Martyna Baker)
Review: The first sampler to be taken from his forthcoming debut album Looking At The Stars, Dutch dynamo Lenzman delivers "My Tearz" and "Paper Faces". Both acting as a cool antidote to the dominant, chart-hugging vocal D&B tracks that are big currency right now, Lenzman reminds us how vocal treatments can be cool, deep and understated. "My Tearz" juxtaposes a filthy Metalheadz-ready bassline and sharp pneumatic beats with the golden tones of AI-compadre Steo with perfection. "Paper Faces", meanwhile, is quintessential liquid. A softly subverted jazz sample, Martyna's delicate vocals and a well weighted bass presence; it's the perfect summer seduction joint. Bring on the album!

Lazy Dub
Review: There really has been a wealth of releases from Metalheadz themed around Lenzman's triumphant and long awaited album Looking At The Stars, and it seems like they are in no mood to stop now that the LP is finally out. The latest 12" from the label sees them grant Jubei's remix of the sublime roller "Empty Promise" a much needed vinyl issue, after it first emerged digitally earlier this month and ended the CD edition of Looking At The Stars. In the hands of the Metalheadz regular, "Empty Promise" is given a stunning revision, all washes of sound and big, swooning basslines, whilst "Lazy Dub" is a big, delicious slice of sparkling Lenzman atmos with huge bass and tickety-boo percussion.

Never Enough (with Forren) (5:16)
Homie Don't Play That (4:55)
Review: Longstanding Metalheadz stalwart Lenzman references drum & bass's formative sample-savvy soulful era with a collection of cuts that take root in the past but stretch far into the future thanks to his now signature crisp, toned production. From the linger pianos and processed vocal texture of "Got My Mind Made Up" to the twinkling arpeggio and sopping wet guitar tones of "Never Enough" by way of Steo's consistently showstopping vocals on the title track, it's yet another gold star for the Dutch don.

In My Mind (feat IAMDDB) (5:14)
Tender Love (feat Steo) (4:57)
Park Hill (feat Jubei) (5:16)
Bayview (feat Submorphics) (5:22)
Review: Back in the autumn, sometime Metalheadz regular Lenzman launched his own label, The North Quarter. Here he returns for a second outing, bringing with him a quartet of tasty tracks. IAMDDB lends a hand on the sweet, skittish and soulful opener "In My Mind" - all fizzing D&B breakbeats, tumbling piano lines and evocative vocals - before soul man Steo unfurls a heartfelt vocal on the similarly breezy "Tender Love". On the flip, you'll find the moody, urban-sounding D&B-rap roller "Park Hill" (which may or may not be a tribute to the infamously bleak Sheffield housing estate of the same name), and the jazzy D&B warmth of Subphonics' collaboration "Bayview".

Lenzman - "Don't Let Go" (feat Redeyes) (6:02)
Review: Having launched his new label The North Quarter late September with a rampant 10 track EP, Lenzman ensures the vinyl lovers are appeased with four of the strongest cuts on wax. Each cut shudders with the soul weight you'd expect from the dapper Dutchman: "African Dream" is all twinkles and shivers, "Grateful" slaps and tickles with some light jazz touches and DRS's distinct sermonisms while "Don't Go" is a total whirlwind of emotion with it evocative vocal sample and turbo drums. Naturally his unavoidable summer smashing remix of Children Of Zeus has also been included too. He really couldn't have squeezed more gold onto this 12" if he tried!

Kasper - "Departure" (Technimatic remix) (5:05)
Review: A jewel in the Dutch D&B crown, Fokuz look back and dig deep through the vaults for their current Fokuz All Stars series. First up is Lenzman with one of his earliest cuts 'String City' getting a rainbow reboot by Artificial Intelligence, Humanature's 'Whisper' gets a heavyweight murk-over by Bert H while Technimatic's star-gazing take on Kasper's 'Departure' remains one of their most powerful reboots of all time. Watch out of those bassline variations. Damagement!

Ever So Slightly (Artificial Intelligence remix)
Clouded Judgement
Review: Cuts from Lenzman and Phil Tangent feature on this sampler that heralds the highly anticipated, long-awaited return of Integral Records. Absent since late 2012, Artificial Intelligence's label are on the cusp of reclaiming their place at the forefront of the D&B scene with a new compilation and whilst fans eagerly await further details on the exact make up of Integral Select, these two tracks should have you excited. Leading the way is an Artificial Intelligence remix of Lenzman's "Ever So Slightly", a classic in Integral's 25 release strong canon, with Glenn Herweijer and Zula Warner reinforcing their reputation for powerful and uplifting rollers. Complementing this, the label welcomes UK soldier of the deep, Phil Tangent to the camp, with the super smooth but deadly 'Clouded Judgement'.

Review: .Lenzman and Redeyes. A true Dutch/Franco partnership to behold. With a variety of collabs behind them over the years, the Headz alumni level up with four understated jams that range from the shimmering jazzy Creative Source style 'Wet Like Water' to the more dancefloor focused, subby rumbler 'Busters' (which wouldn't have gone amiss on Soul:r back in the day) Already massive tracks since their release digitally last year, this new vinyl outing adds a whole new lease of life. Wonder-full (not sorry)

Review: After many years in the game, Spearhead Records knows a thing or two about serving up music that gets dance floors in a spin. As such they use that knowledge now to look back into their back cat and offer up some of the tunes they have found to be the most requested over the years. It reads like a who's who of drum & bass big dawgs frankly and plays out like a killer set in its own right. Seba, LSB, Technimatic, Utah Jazz, Lenzman and Muffler are all called upon for everything from stripped-back and smooth liquid sounds to more roughed-up dancers.

Ulterior Motive & Lenzman - "Catharsis"
Ulterior Motive & Hybris - "Bring Out"
Review: A delicious double banger here from Ulterior Motive as they pair up against other equally notorious players in D&B. First up is "Catharsis", a collabo with Lenzman. Riding with a perfectly processed vocal (think Riya or Diane Charlamagne) and a set of rattling drums, this grumps and grizzles its way through the groove until we get the dreamy drop midway. Elsewhere we find them going head to head with Hybris for a sharper, glitchier workout. With tripped out bass tones and all sorts of headbending processing play, fans of Xtrah or Foreign Concept will instantly find favour right here. Looking forward to Versus EP 2...

Review: Those Integral fans out there who indulged in last months 12" sampler for the Integral Select compilation will be like a kid let loose in a sweet shop at the sight of this vinyl edition, which packs four highlights across two slabs as well as gripping the full CD version. Having recently ended a label hiatus, Integral Select should find Artificial Intelligence pair Glenn Herweijer and Zula Warner reclaiming their place amongst D&B label royalty, effectively demonstrating how broad a hold they have on the genre as a style. The two plates feature three fresh remixes of classics from the Integral archives, with Alix Perez taking on Zero T's legendary "Refusal", and the heat continues with a Calibre tweak of Technicolour, Komatic and LSB's collab "Rotary Motion". Lenzman & Redeyes' 2009 liquid jazz anthem "Thieves In The Night" is reworked by Technimatic on the second plate and shares space with Scar's impressive Integral debut "Something From Nothing", a nasty concoction of heavy breaks and dirty funk basslines.

Review: Dutch drum & bass dynamo Lenzman finally hits album status with this immaculate collection on Metalheadz. You should all be aware of his abilities by now - deep, emotional, delicate yet bolstered with big production, he treads the line between liquid and lava with ease. Highlights can be found by the bus-load across the 17 tracks, but if you were to force us to pick favourites, the jazz-stroked "Just Can't Take" with DRS, the wistful pianos and far-away vocal command of Martyna Baker on "Paper Faces" and the darker, devious roller "Private Eye" would definitely be top of the pile. And that's just three of many, many incredible cuts. To put it simply, Looking At The Stars has drum & bass album of the year written all over it. Essential.

Move & Focus (feat Dan Stezo)
Review: Ever since his emergence back in 2007, Dutch producer Teije van Vliet has been working hard to provide Drum & bass with fresh, sparkling rollers blessed with that all important dark and dirty undercurrent as Lenzman. Given his prolific nature, it's surprising there hasn't been a Lenzman long player before now, so kudos to Metalheadz for ensnaring van Vliet in his Leiden studio long enough for him to lay down Looking At The Stars. This double plated vinyl version only holds four of the 17 tracks you'll find on the CD or digital edition but they are all certified rollers that will certainly pique the fancy of interested parties. The laidback delivery of DRS is the perfect foil for the smooth "Just Can't Take" whilst "Burner" delivers one of those deep basslines Lenzman produces so well. Grip the second plate and the Kevin King featuring Starz is the Dutchman in ascendant form, rubbing up nicely with the moody half stepper "Move & Focus

Review: Lenzman's last project on The North Quarter was four years ago, so his return to the label is welcome indeed. On this super double 12" which was written over the course of three months, the artist tackles the emotions and challenges of a total change of rhythm and routine. Having overcome a void of inspiration he excels here with a mix of old recordings and found sounds, collaborative tunes and fresh new bespoke piano recordings. It is a warm, rolling album full of soul, with hip hop and drum & bass coming together in perfect harmony.

Review: The North Quarter label serves up nine exclusive tracks on this superb double LP which is the culmination of many years friendship of Lenzman & Dan Stezo. The former lays down the seamless flow while the latter delivers perfectly introspective lyrics in a heart aching falsetto and all the tunes are solely from The Northern Quarter associates. The liquid drum & bass grooves are soulful and soaring, with plaintive pianos draped over the silky sequences. It's a warm and emotive listen for days at home as well as once dance floors open up again. Favourites include Zero T & Unitsouled's frictionless 'Slightest Moment' and FD's deep diving closer 'Top2Bottom VIP.'
