The pair channel glossy, post-internet trap, early 00s Coki-esque dubstep skwelch and all the best parts of contemporary d&b. 'VSN 122' comes with all the rushy euphoria of the best pop-adjacent, accessible dance music records, but maintains its edge with shards of unorthodox sound design and texture- take the wild bowed cymbal-sounding wubs in 'Novaform' or the unhinged FM action and distant vocal hollering on 'Luminae' for instance. Over the course of a mere six tracks, Machinedrum & Holly weave a complex tapestry of club affect, from the languid spa-hop of 'Blueshift' to the overtly poppy rush of 'Hide Sun'. Forward!

Review: Holsten makes a fine impression here with his debut EP on Rupture LDN. It's a drum & bass excursion that operates at the darker and menacing end of the spectrum and opens with the eerie bell hits of 'All Talk' (feat Overlook). Thrilling breaks soon take over as the turbulence synths grow ever more wild and 'Stallion' then mixes up fizzing synth chaos with tight, kinetic drum programming. On the B-side, 'Understand' is another tough drum workout with haunting pads, and 'One Step Closer' shuts down with withering sci-fi motifs and a seriously wobbly low end.

Review: German techno DJ and producer Rene Pawlowitz has kept up their experimental Hoover series going for a solid three years now. A fascinating take on jungle from the frame of reference that is techno, it serves as a pretty perfect example of one genre being 'looked in on' by another. Review: To celebrate the 25th birthday of their celebrated debut album, A New Sound Spectacular, the Belgian band has decided to offer-up this selection of long-forgotten remixes of two tracks from the set, '2Wicky' and 'Inhaler', both of which were originally released on now delated 12" singles. The A-side highlight is undoubtedly DJ Pulse's terrifically spacey drum & bass revision of '2Wicky', though the heavy trip-hop psychedelia of the 'Not So Extended Hoovering' version is also surprisingly good. Over on the flip, you'll find two more D&B-inspired takes on 'Inhaler': a wonderfully deep and jazzy 'Mr Pink' revision courtesy of Pierre Job AKA Hector Zazou, and the band's own string-laden 'Drum & Orch' revision.

Review: Man like J Majik dusts off the old Innervisions alias for these two straight-up jungle primetimers. 'Ain't Ready' takes a classic vocal sample and whips it up a gear so it playfully teases those pitched up hardcore flavours without ever getting too OTT. 'Adams Rib', meanwhile, rains down the breaks on a biblical level while ice cold pads stir up the sinister flavours in the background. You ain't ready for these ones.

Review: Eight years after their ground-breaking "Resolution 653" full length, pioneering duo Instra:mental make a welcome return with their new album Timelines, and this first selection of tunes from it gives you a good idea why. "Pacific Heights" is a jumble of minimal drum beats and futuristic synth smears that is atmospheric, while "Sakura" is more sparse and zoned out thanks to forlorn chords which speak of romantic pain. Things slow down into deep rubbery rhythms on the lush "Photograph" while "End Credits" has an unexpected Balearic vibe to it, with breezy chords making for a mood that feels akin to gazing out to sea.

Review: Big up to Sonic Force for hitting release number ten and for doing it in fine style to boot. Islay is charged with soundtracking the mini milestone and does so with a limited and hand-stamped 12" featuring four deep and heady cuts. 'Trip To Arran' pairs delightful ambient pads with gently breaking synth waves and blissed out but wordless vocals. 'You'll Be Mine' ups the pace slightly but still deals in horizontal dub and heavenly pads and vocals and 'Pebbles' notches sit up one further with some slinky jungle breaks and melancholic pads. 'Castlehill (Victoria Street)' is another beautifully mournful cut with distant seagulls calls closing down an immersive EP.

'Zegafunk' locks in four new heaters for Metalheadz (it's his debut for the legendary drum n' bass label), establishing a no-nonsense throwback to the earliest incarnations of jump-up and techstep, only repackaged for the present day. In the words of Metalheadz, there's a real classic feel to it, with the unendingly dystopian and robotic sound of late 90s drum n' bass shining through; 'Tiger Moth' and 'Kalibrate' are cases in point, with conveying moods of unswung menace and malicious awe.

Review: J Majik is of course a drum & bass don who not only knocked out killer DJ sets and productions but also headed up his own Infrared Records and made it into one the bastions of the scene from the mid-90s onwards. Thelatest from the label finds the man born James Spratling serving up the crushing breaks and doom laded synths of 'In The City', all designed meticulously and sure to make a massive impact. He then goes long on the 11-minute B-side epic 'Fantazia/Thanks & Praise' (feat Salva) which is a dark and hard hitting flurry of amen breaks and rave vocals.

Review: Reloading back to 2019 to an album that reloaded us back to the mid 90s... J Majik's Full Circle album marked a major league return for one of the jungle foundation's youngest mavericks. Having risen to fame at the age of 15 on labels like Reinforced and Headz during jungle d&b's most seminal eras, Majik had taken a break but reminded us who's boss with Full Circle and now these remixes echo the same sentiment. Kid Lib goes in on 'The Crow' with its ice cold mentasms and ghostly stretched samples while Msymiakos brings heavy waves of feeling to 'Red Moon'. Once again paying full respect Majik's original but maintaining his own timeless signature, it's another exceptional remix of an exceptional rave weapon. The circles keep spinning...

Review: There's just no stopping Vibez '93 at the moment - the Dutch jungle label is swimming in legit gear and sharing it with the world. We're still reeling from the anonymous Punkrocker and Self Aware EPs. This time around there are names on the plates, as four artists throw down in maximum style. Janaway is up first with the ragga jungle badness of 'Reaching Out', while InnaSelf brings some more introspective pads and synth touches to their amen trickery. Evasion weaves a plush tapestry of ragged breaks, dreamy vocal licks and atmospheric flourishes for a curly advanced slice of jungle perfection and then Cheetah rounds the record off with the truly snare-rushing 'Bunnin' Up'.

His opener 'Kings Town' is a bubbly, reagge-laced rhythm with blasts of rapping bass and tumbling drums that demand you dance. He then offers 'Parts Of Me,' a harder edge stepper with big and icy hi hats. The Jazzassins for their part seduce with 'Evolution' and then get more edgy and artsy with the hopping 'Bawrley.'

Review: ASC's Spatial imprint looks west for inspiration this month as they welcome a certified Reinforced OG who made a return last September after a 25 year break from this particular project (and many years from the game): New Jersey's JLM Productions. Also operating under aliases such as Sky City and P.E.P during the 90s, the JLM name was synonymous with the deeper, atmospheric sounds of jungle. And that's exactly what we have here. Review: A fresh run of a release that first came out in 1996, 'Chopper' hears a collision of worlds between two drum n' bass stalwarts, Ray Keith and Dark Soldier (pro-tip: they're the same person). Dread Recordings, the label founded by Keith in 1994, houses this monster. It features two tracks: 'Chopper' and 'Back To Me' - the former is a classic jungle tune, and has been remixed many times by a plethora of heatbringers such as Shy FX, Bladerunner and Critical Impact. The latter, however, is brand new, and showcases Keith's signature darkness and heaviness with crushing flair.

Review: Good For You Records labelled Kenny Summit is back on his own label. The veteran of 30 plus years is in fine form with this single, which is a feel good and super soulful house track for warmer days. A muffled, muted vocal brings a tinge of melancholy, but the funky bass riffs and disco-fried drums raise you up. It comes with some beefy remixes, not least from the late, great Chicago veteran Paul Johnson whose Jack Nation remix is hard edged and raw. DJ Spinna does his soulful thing on a fine remix and DJ Aphrodite take stings into d&b territory to close.

Review: Keppel was last on this label with a contribution to a various artist collection but now steps up with a full solo EP of his own. His unique take on techno is exhibited from the off on 'Stanley Knife' with its scurrying synths, drunken synth loops and drums that go nowhere fast but still draw you in. '194' is awash with kinetic synth sequences and distant dub chords that bring colour and 'Life Takes Rise' rides on another inventive and alluring rhythm pattern while the warming synth work gets you lost in thought. Closer 'Diesel', meanwhile, is tough, frosty, and more techno-leaning.
