Tiptop Audio BD808 Analogue Bass Drum Generator Module (light grey)
Cat: 590416 Rel: 09 Nov 15

Analog bass drum snythesizer module - 4HP wide
Notes: Introducing the BD808, part of our new series of drum modules that brings analog percussion into the modular synth world, instantly turning your system into a self-contained music machine. Its small size, minimalist design, and modern production methods have allowed us to bring the world's most famous bass drum sound generator back at a very low cost. The real thing is here again.

The BD808 is the Roland TR-808's Bass Drum circuit adapted for use in Eurorack format and tuned to sound like a machine that comes fresh off the original 80's assembly line. The adaptation to modular format has allowed us to add some special features like independent Accent levels, a high-powered gain stage, dual-input pulse-shaper, and extended decay - all without compromising the signature sound of the TR-808.

A widely used technique with TR-808 machines is to run the drum sounds through outboard amplifiers to add gain and then pass the sound through just about anything to generate additional harmonics caused by clipping and distortion. In the BD808, we have already included this high-powered output gain stage capable of producing signals up to 20Vpp, extending from the original palette of sounds and allowing you to get an assorted array of harmonized bass drums ranging from sharp attacks to crushed tones using this simple yet effective technique! On the inputs, we have also designed a dual pulse-shaper circuit so you can trigger your BD808 with Trigger/Gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This saves you the need to shape the pulses sent to the module and ensuring the same stable sound at its peak power, regardless of differences in your pulse source.

All these little, but unique, features make integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular easy, unleashing the power of real analog drums and making those speaker cones shake.

Tiptop Audio BitROT Bit Manipulation ZDSP Cartridge
Cat: 595779 Rel: 13 Sep 17

Collection of 8 voltage-controlled waveform-combination & bit-manipulation effects
Notes: Bit-Rot is an independent collection of 8 voltage-controlled waveform-combination and bit-manipulation effects written by segoh (Sebastian Gutsfeld) and released by Equinoxoz from Australia.

The algorithms cover a wide range from soft ring modulation with stereo spread to glitchy distortion and harsh digital noise. Particular care was taken to create effects with consistent control parameters which allow the usage of the Z-DSP's sequential program control in a more musical way.

Features:

The bit-rot parameter defines the amount of harshness in the nonlinear combination of both inputs. Increase it to tear the bits apart or leave it at 0 to skip the waveform-combination and send the left input signal directly to the left output.

All 8 effects include a ring modulation of the output signal with the right input (set the amount with the rmod-r parameter). The right output is an inverted and delayed (0ms to 100ms) copy of the left output, controllable by the dly-r parameter (try hard panning each output for nice stereo effects and mix both outputs or add some feedback for strange phase cancellations).

Waveform-combination algorithms:

INTERLEAVE L/R: Interleaved bitwise combination of both inputs. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select input bitmasks with longer word lengths.
XOR: Single bits are xor'ed - "true" means the left input is sent to out, "false" the right input. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select other positions for the bit comparison.
MIX: Both inputs are mixed together. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select the bitmask applied to the output.
MIN: The minimum of both inputs. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select the bitmask applied to the output.
INTERLEAVE MIX/L/R: Interleaved bitwise combination of the mix and both individual inputs. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select input bitmasks with longer word lengths.
C-GATE: A Muller C-gate to compare single bits - "true" means the left input is sent to out, "false" the right input. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select other positions for the bit comparison.
POS/NEG: The positive part of left input is mixed with the negative part of the right input. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select the bitmask applied to the output.
MAX: The maximum of both inputs. Increase the bit-rot parameter to select the bitmask applied to the output.

Weight: 0.005 kg - 0.01 lbs

Tiptop Audio CB808 Analogue Cowbell Drum Generator Module (light grey)
Cat: 590425 Rel: 09 Nov 15

Percussion synthesiser module with the original TR-808's analog cow bell sound generator - 4HP wide
Notes: The CB808 is the TR-808's analog cow bell sound generator in Eurorack format. It's a low-cost module that brings back that classic cow bell tone and continues to expand your Tiptop Audio modular drum machine.

Just like the other drums in this series, adapting the circuit to the modular format has allowed us to add some special features like pitch modulation, LFO (with control over rate and depth), independent accent Levels, a high-powered gain stage, and a dual-input pulse-shaper - all without compromising the signature sound of the TR-808's spacey cow wow.

The CB808 sound is generated by two square wave oscillators that go through band pass filtering and then get mixed together. It's a simple analog circuit with a very cool output What makes the 808 cow bell sound so well known is that it doesn't feel constant, but rather slightly spacey. The internal pitch-modulating LFO that we added takes this effect even further, but stays within the bounds of the 808 sound, keeping it very musical and easy to play with.

Compatible with all the other drums in this series, the CB808 includes a high-powered output gain stage capable of producing hot signals that can be easily distorted if desired. On the inputs, we have designed a dual-input pulse-shaper circuit so you can trigger the CB808 with trigger/gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This eliminates the need to shape pulses sent to the module and ensures the same stable sound at peak power, regardless of your pulse source. All these unique features make integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular synth easy, unleashing the power of real analog drums.

Tiptop Audio Chorus ZDSP Cartridge
Cat: 618524 Rel: 03 Aug 16

Chorus effect cartridge for Z=DSP module
Notes: Chorus effects for the ZDSP thicken incoming sound and create animation within the sound's harmonic structure. In addition, they provide an excellent tool for mono to stereo processing of any incoming sound, or even a whole mix, producing a stereo widening effect.

The card contains eight digital algorithms inspired by a set of the most classic analog Chorus effects ever to be made like the Dimension D, Solina ensemble and some very rare devices as well. True to the modular spirit, the control parameters offer a wide range from subtle and smooth, to fast LFO modulation sea sick wobbles, with a lot of sweet spots in between.

Using the Z-DSP's own stereo analog feedback path to apply feedback to the effects results in beautifully lush and organic animated drones. Using those feedback inputs as an additional 2 input channels of direct injection into the DSP chip, the ZDSP can take up to 4 external sources for generating impressive stereo drones with a classic Chorus touch. The end result is a great tool for the design of atmospheric sounds completely in the modular environment.

Tiptop Audio Clocked Delays ZDSP Cartridge
Cat: 618520 Rel: 03 Aug 16

Beat sync delay effects for Z-DSP module
Notes: Clocked Delays are a collection of eight stereo delay programs that let you sync delay time to an external clock applied to CV input two of the Z-DSP.

With a quick setup, the clock input easily and exactly synchronizes the delay repeats to external rhythms generated by the Trigger Riot, Circadian Rhythms or other clock sources. A Divide parameter is included with each program to switch between different divisions or stereo ratios creating a spatial audio clock divider which automatically matches the repeats to a playing beat. Feeding the clock input with odd clock divisions like from the Trigger Riot has the interesting effect moving the repeats in relation to the playing beat.

When it comes to their sound some of the programs feature a pristine classic delay lines, while other programs insert a coloured band pass, low pass or high pass filter in the feedback loop, imparting a beautiful harmonic transition to the repeats as they feedback through the filter and slowly decay away. Using the Z-DSP's analog feedback path adds additional voltage controlled stereo feedback hick can slightly drift the repeats out of their tight sync to the incoming clock, due to the DSP chip latency, and also extend the delay Mil intensity up to self-oscillation. Controlling the Z-DSP's DSP chip speed externally via the Clock jack can devolve everything into glitchy out of sync binary chaos.

TipTop Audio MIXZ Dual Audio/CV/Gate Mixer Module With MixBus (black)
Cat: 914511 Rel: 13 Dec 22

Dual audio, CV and gate mixer module with TipTop MixBus - 10HP
Notes: MIXZ is a multi-channel mixing module for mixing audio, CV, and gate signals with excellent linear response and low noise. Balancing a clear visual layout and multiple mixers in a small footprint makes the MIXZ easy to use in a variety of configurations within a modular synth. Its high-quality analog mixing circuitry makes for a great sounding mixer with plenty of headroom, providing a smooth, organic merge of dynamics and excellent separation of mixing sections and channels. MIXZ has three sections:

Mixer A: a low-noise, 4-channel mixer with independent gain control for each channel.
Mixer B: a low- noise, 4-channel mixer with master gain control.
MixBus: a multi-channel mixer that mixes signals from modules utilizing the Tiptop MixBus.

Mixer A and B can be configured as either two independent, 4-channel mixers or as a single 8-channel mixer. If the output of Mixer A is not in use, then Mixer A will be routed internally to Mixer B forming the 8-channel mixer.

Tiptop MixBus is a new method we have developed to mix audio signals through the Eurorack power bus board without patch cables. A little bit of magic, eh? Although this technique is not ideal for a low-noise mix, we found it to be useful for some applications, including mixing our drum modules, which all have a MixBus-enabled output. The result is that your drum modules are always available and mixed on the master out of the MIXZ with a flip of a switch. This will save you time and frees up cables for repatching sound again and again, while keeping the channels of MIXZ free to bring other signals into the mix.

Combining the MixBus with Mixer A and B, the MIXZ sums dozens of channels in only 10HP.

Tiptop Audio RS808 Analogue Rimshot & Claves Drum Generator Module (light grey)
Cat: 590426 Rel: 09 Nov 15

Percussion synthesiser module - TR-808's analog Rimshot and Claves sound generator in Eurorack format - 4HP wide
Notes: The RS808 is the TR-808's analog Rimshot and Claves sound generator in Eurorack format. It's a low-cost module that brings back that classic sound, but with even more variation and control, continuing to expand your Tiptop Audio modular drum machine.

The RS808 comes with two switches that give a total of 4 different positions: two are the classic Rimshot and Clays sounds as found on the original, and two are unique to the RS808 module adding a range of snappy "click" sounds the circuit is capable of producing. Two control knobs were added, each have different effect for the selected sound. In general, these controls can be categorized as Pitch and Snap as they control the frequency of the oscillator and decay of the envelope generator. The RS808 is an exact reproduction of the original circuit which sounds like a fresh machine coming off the assembly line back in the 80's.

Compatible with all the other drums in this series, the RS808 includes a hot modular level output gain stage capable of producing signals that can be easily distorted if desired. On the inputs, we have designed a dual-input pulse-shaper circuit so you can trigger the RS808 with trigger/gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This eliminates the need to shape pulses sent to the module ensuring the same stable sound at peak power, regardless of your pulse source. These distinctive features make integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular synth easy, unleashing the power of real analog drums.

Tiptop Audio Spring Waves ZDSP Cartridge
Cat: 618525 Rel: 03 Aug 16

Cartridge for the Z-DSP module
Notes: Spring Waves brings a set of Physical behaviour modelling algorithms to the Z-DSP. It dives deep into the experimental digital sound design techniques known as Waveguide Synthesis: a 1998 patent of Stanford University developed by Julius 0. Smith III and a step forward from Karplus-Strong techniques. In addition to that are two Spring models space synthesis making real Newtonian physics calculation at sample rate.

The principle behind these algorithms is basically a mathematical feedback formula excited by external signals which self oscillates as a damped tone. The type and harmonic content of the external signals these algorithms can react to is extremely wide and so are the tones that they can impart to a sound.

The card contains six Karplus- Strong and two Spring models. When fed with an external pulse or bursts of noise they self-oscillate creating synthetic sounds similar to glass, spring, bell and variety of string tones. When structured sounds like high pitched FM tones, drones, drum sounds and vocals pass through they get a harmonized type effect, many times in an unexpected way. his card is anything but standard as it takes the natural 'springy' artefact of digital audio, and, instead of fighting to eliminate it, actually makes use of it as a new source of sound inside the modular.

FX expansion card bundle for ZDSP digital effects processor
Notes: The Time Domain Bundle is all about rich delay effects. The package consists of three Z-DSP cards with eight algorithms each. Modulated Delays specializes in animated echo programs, which can be used to create, for instance, diffusion, chorus or pan effects. Hydra provides multi-tap algorithms. These can be used to generate rhythmical delays. Spiral combines a pitch shifter and a multi-tap echo to create atmospheric to slightly psychedelic effects.

Mod Delay:

Modulated Delays brings various forms of animation to the delay lines. These types of algorithms further extend the signal path of delay effects with extra processing and routing of the audio signal. The sonic results put the Mod Delay effects in a category of their own.

Each program adds different processing like diffusion, chorus, panning and other modulation to the basic mono or dual delay line structure. The two Modulator programs are intended for use with external CV - opening up vast modulation possibilities of the modular synthesiser. Each card comes loaded with 8 presets.

Hydra:

Hydra is the multi-armed DSP creature tapping its tentacles into a buffered delay line and creating a range of multi-tap delay rhythmic and spatial effects. The Spread parameter sweeping through rhythmic variations allowing some of the programs bridge the gap between single delays and reverbs by using diffusion while others use taps to create rhythmic patterns.

The basic Hydra algorithm sums the inputs to mono and writes the signal to a single delay line. Multiple output taps are taken from the delay line and spread across the stereo outputs. Each program adds additional features like panning, filtering, pitch shifting and/or diffusion to create a unique Z-DSP Hydra experience. The last two programs add external Clock input for more precise sync to the beat.

Spirals:

Spirals is a pitch and multi-tap delay card for the Z-DSP. This card uses numerous multi-tap delay techniques in combination with dual pitch shifters to create a wide range of harmonizing choruses, echo and harmonic reverb sounds. Programs on this card derive from the complex algorithms found on high-end studio effects processors, which, while powerful, have a complex editing process. On the Z-DSP all of the power of the internal code is controlled by three simple adjustments for sculpting the sound - making the experience more about performance and live tweaking rather than navigating through dozens of menu pages.

Tiptop Audio Valhalla Shimmer Reverb ZDSP Cartridge
Cat: 601462 Rel: 05 Apr 16

Reverb cartridge for TipTop Audio Z-DSP with 8 original algorithms
Notes: The Z-DSP Shimmer cartridge has 8 original algorithms, designed to combine lush reverberation with multiple voices of pitch shifting, to create ethereal pads, rich chordal textures, dissonant clouds of sound, and a variety of other sounds that are perfect for electronic music. The algorithms are customized to work with the Tiptop Audio Z-DSP Eurorack module.

There are 6 reverb algorithms in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart, arranged in order of complexity:
- Fast Shimmer: A modulated reverb that quickly decays away into an endlessly pitch shifting tail. The shift interval can be set between +/- 12 semitones. Perfect for that classic "octave up" shimmer sound.
- Slow Shimmer: Similar to Fast Shimmer, but with a much slower attack.
- Dual Shimmer: Two pitch shifted voices, embedded within a larger modulated reverb network, shifting the reverb decay in both positive and negative directions. Try slowly sweeping the Shift control in this mode for ridiculously cinematic sounds.
- Triple Shimmer: Two pitch shifted voices embedded within the reverb decay network, plus a third voice external to the network. This allows the user to have a reverb with +12 and -12 semitones of feedback, plus a stable +7 semitones voice without feedback.
- Quad Shimmer: Four pitch shifted voices feeding into a lush modulated reverb. This allows for a variety of dissonant and consonant chordal textures, with the max Shift setting corresponding to a rich major chord.
- ClusterVerb: Four pitch shifted voices embedded within the feedback network of a modulated reverb. The result quickly becomes dissonant or metallic. Perfect for insta-Ligeti, or Penderecki In A Box.

In addition, the Z-DSP Shimmer cart features 2 special effects algorithms:
- Quad Detune: 4 short pitch shifted delays, feeding back on each other. A variety of chorus, detuned, and dissonant effects can be obtained through this mode. Turn up the Feedback for maximum fun.
- PitchEcho: A single pitch shifting voice, combined with a tape echo emulation = sound mangling joy. Turn up the feedback for barberpole self-oscillation, and sweep the decay time for all sorts of swoopy glitches.

Tiptop Audio VCA Voltage Controlled Amplifier Module
Cat: 717728 Rel: 25 Jan 19

Precision calibrated analogue VCA - 4HP
Notes: The Tiptop Audio VCA is a full featured, precision calibrated, analogue Voltage Controlled Amplifier. At its heart is a novel design of a control circuitry - a function that lets you sweep continuously through three different response curves: Logarithmic, Linear, Exponential - giving you all three shapes in a single module. This special control circuitry design by Mr. Osamu Hoshuyama was adopted into the VCA module to make it a great sounding synthesizer VCA with flexibility to address all duties: level control for both audio and CV modulation, gating audio into silence, and amplitude modulation effects.

A VCA, Voltage Controlled Amplifier, sometimes referred to as an audio gate, is an essential module to any Eurorack and no system is complete without one. The concept is an input, an output and a control that sets how much of the input signal passes through to the output.

A great VCA means minimum feedthrough of the control signal bleeding into the passing signal and minimum distortion applied to the passing signal. An excellent audio gate means minimal leakage of signal from IN to OUT when the control tells the VCA to fully close. These are the most critical conditions for a good sounding, good responding VCA and are what the Tiptop Audio design carefully addresses. 2 LED peak indicator lights on the front panel light up with incoming CV or audio signals. While a clipping indicator for audio is expected, clipping of CV is often overlooked and it's included here to visually maintain the full dynamic range of an envelope driving the VCA.

The Tiptop Audio VCA lets you concentrate on creative uses rather than figuring out the module's anomalies. The result is an excellent sounding synthesizer VCA that's a joy to use and pleasing to hear.
