MIDI converters & accessories

For any hardware studio, MIDI accessories are essential to help connect all your synths, drum machines and other gear. Brands like Kenton and MIDI Solutions offer a range of thru boxes, mergers and patchbays to help keep everything connected and in sync. Simple MIDI thru boxes split one incoming signal into multiple outputs, while mergers mix multiple incoming signals. More advanced patchbays allow you to route signals around multiple inputs and outputs, switching routings at the touch of a button. You’ll also find MIDI clock generators from E-RM, offering rock-solid timing when used as the main clock to control all your MIDI gear.

Audiowerkstatt Trigger 2 MIDI 2 Trigger Converter v2
Cat: 691664 Rel: 31 May 18

Converts analog trigger clock signals to MIDI clock signals & vice versa
Notes: The Audiowerkstatt trigger2midi2trigger v2 has all functions of the classic version 1, but comes in a powder-coated steel-enclosure and stores its settings.

If used as trigger-clock-to-MIDI-clock-converter or MIDI-clock-to-trigger-clock-converter, there is always a MIDI-clock-signal (incl. start/stop) sent at the "midi out"-jack. At the tip of the "clock"-phone-jack, an analog trigger-clock-signal (v-trigger: 0v/5v, s-trigger "open"/"closed") is sent. The tip of the "start/stop"-phone-jack is 5v while the masterclock is running and 0v while the masterclock is paused for v-trigger and "closed" while the masterclock is running and "open" while the masterclock is paused, if s-trigger is used.

A clock-source can be connected to the "midi in"-jack or to the ring of the "clock"- and "start/stop"-phone-jack.

Normal insert-cables can be used to connect the analog inputs/outputs. If only the analog outputs are used, normal phone-jack-cables (mono or stereo) can be used.

The following parameters can be adjusted:

1. Clock-source (MIDI-clock or analog trigger-clock).
2. Trigger-type of the analog input (s-trigger or v-trigger).
3. Trigger-type of the analog output (s-trigger or v-trigger).
4. Clock-divider of the incoming analog trigger-clock (1/4, 1/8. 1/16 or 1/32).
5. Clock-divider of the outgoing analog trigger-clock (1/4, 1/8. 1/16 or 1/32).
6. Pulse-length of the outgoing analog trigger-clock (adjustable in 6 steps, the pulse-length is calculated dependent on clock-divider and clock-frequency).

In addition to the clock-signal, start-/stop-signals from the masterclock are detected and processed, but it is also possible to send start-/stop-signals manual.

The settings for the analog output (trigger.type out, clock.divider out and pulse.length) can be changed without losing synchronisation, while the masterclock is running.

The Audiowerkstatt trigger2midi2trigger v2 can also be used as a tool for analog-trigger-signals, if it isn't used as a converter.

The following uses are possible:

a) "S-trigger" to "V-trigger" converter
b) "V-trigger" to "S-trigger" converter
c) Analog clock-divider
d) Analog clock-multiplier
e) Gate to trigger converter
f) Trigger to gate converter with adjustable gate-length

Conductive Labs MRCC MIDI Router Control Centre
Cat: 857264 Rel: 24 Jan 22

Reinventing the classic MIDI router
Notes: Serious control power with this unique MIDI router. A total of 11 MIDI inputs and 17 outputs plus two thru ports allows you to connect a wealth of MIDI gear, filter, map, merge and route with huge flexibility.

Supplier's Notes:
Following on from the NDLR, an innovative Multi-part Polyphonic Arpeggiator, Conductive Labs have set out to reinvent the MIDI Router. Why? Because there's nothing like it!

It's super deluxe: featuring one button routing for each physical input and output, RGB LEDs, and OLED graphical display, everything can be easily setup without a PC. Unlike devices with front and rear facing connectors, MRCC's vertical ports are designed to have the smallest footprint, saving your desk space for more synths!

Massive MIDI I/O: 11 inputs and 17 outputs, including 5 PIN DINs, 3.5MM MIDI jacks in both flavours, 4 USB host ports, and a USB client (PC, Mac or tablet) connection with 12 MIDI ports. With automatic merging, MIDI master clock with CV clock out, filtering and MIDI effects, and MIDI message monitoring.

Expand and extend your outputs up to 50' away with the MRCC Remote 7. Need even more? Connect 2 MRCC's together with a single cable for remote routing up to 32' (10m) apart. MRCC is Rack mountable too, with the available 2U Rack Ears.

User Centered Design
All MIDI cables plug vertically into the top panel which frees up valuable table space. The top panel graphics connect each button-jack pair so you know exactly which device you are routing or filtering.

Routing MIDI paths and configuring MIDI filters is easy with the full colour LEDs and the one button per input / one button per output front panel layout.

Modern Connectivity
11 inputs and 17 outputs, including 5 PIN DINs, 3.5MM MIDI jacks (in both type A and type B flavours), 4 USB host ports (with 4 virtual USB MIDI input ports each), and a USB client (PC) connection with 12 virtual USB MIDI ports. Everything you could want for connecting MIDI gear in your studio.

Advanced Functionality
For more advanced tasks use the graphical interface on the sharp colour OLED display. Using the tabs and folders style UI with the cursor buttons and encoder makes navigation simple. Once the MRCC is configured, save it to memory for recall later. All this with no confusing PC app.

Expandable
The optional MRCC Remote provides a convenient, clean solution for getting MIDI outputs to a remote location, such as into a 19" rack or to your keyboard stand. The Remote is connected to MRCC with a single shielded Ethernet cable, eliminating a bundle of long MIDI cables.
If you need even more ports, connect two MRCCs together!

Accessories
Expand the MRCC with the MRCC Remote 7. It adds 5x routable 5 pin DIN connectors, with 2 shared 3.5MM TRS (in both A and B flavours). It comes with a 10 meter (32') Ethernet cable to get MIDI outputs to where you need them, without a bunch of long MIDI cables.

Conductive Labs MRCC Remote 7 MIDI Output Expander For MRCC
Cat: 904532 Rel: 24 Jan 23

Cleanly and conveniently extend the MRCC’s MIDI outputs with the Remote 7!
Notes: Cleanly and conveniently extend the MRCC's MIDI outputs with the Remote 7! Adds five routable 5 Pin DINs, plus two shared 3.5MM TRS MIDI jacks (one MIDI TRS standard type A, and one type B) over a shielded Ethernet cable. A 10-metre (32 ft.) Ethernet cable is included and automatically added to your order.

This requires the MRCC, which is sold separately. Only one Remote 7 can be connected to an MRCC. If you are connecting 2 MRCC together, you will need a custom RJ45 splitter (coming soon) to use the Remote 7. See the forum for details.

Order the MRCC Remote 7 for delivery with MRCC when ordered from Conductivelabs.com shop.

The orders ship from Conductive Labs' Hong Kong based fulfillment warehouse partner.

Included with the Remote 7 is a 10 meter (32') Ethernet cable* to connect Remote 7 to MRCC.

*If you want to use your own Ethernet cable, it must have shielded connectors that are connected to each other via a drain wire in the cable. CAT6a (or better) Ethernet cables with shielded connectors (metal shrouds over the connectors) are typically connected in this way.

The connections from the RJ45 on MRCC to the Remote 7 are MIDI, and those signals are not actively repeated. In theory you should subtract the length of the Ethernet cable from the max length coming out of the Remote 7. That is, if you have a 30' Ethernet cable from MRCC to Remote 7, subtract 30 from 50 for the max cable length from a Remote 7 output. In practice, when using good quality MIDI cables you can probably use a 50' cable to the Remote 7, and 6' MIDI cables from the Remote 7 to your gear. YMMV.

The 2 TRS jacks on the Remote 7 are hard wired to 2 of the 5 pin DINs. When using the shared DIN and TRS output at the same time, the voltage will be lowered, kind of like using a headphone splitter. A maximum 6 foot TRS cable length is advised, though the MIDI.ORG does not specify a TRS to TRS cable, only a TRS to MIDI adapter with a maximum 6" length. There have been no noticeable problems using short (36") dollar store TRS cables.

Like MRCC outputs 7-12, Remote 7 outputs do not currently pass SysEx data.

Conductive Labs MRCC XpandR 4x1 MIDI DIN Expander For MRCC
Cat: 904543 Rel: 24 Jan 23

MRCC XpandR is an 4x1 MIDI DIN expander accessory for MRCC. It’s also a computer MIDI interface, and stand-alone MIDI merger.
Notes: MRCC XpandR 4×1 - a DIN Expander for MRCC and USB MIDI Interface

A DIN Expander for MRCC
A USB MIDI Interface
A stand-alone MIDI Merger

Need More MIDI Inputs?

When MRCC's 6 routable DIN and TRS inputs just aren't enough, the MRCC XpandR 4×1 adds 4x DIN Inputs (and a shared 3.5mm TRS), and 1x DIN Output (plus 3.5mm TRS thru).

Up to four XpandRs can be attached to the MRCC's USB host ports. Inputs and the Output are routed the same way as MRCC's USB host MIDI virtual ports. So it's quick and easy to route XpandR's ports; it's like they were built-in to MRCC.

The XpandR is also a 4x Input, 1x Output USB class compliant MIDI interface for your PC, Mac, tablet, or what have you.

Or, use the Mode button to switch XpandR to a stand-alone 4 into 1 USB powered MIDI merger. In MIDI merger mode, the USB connector is only used to power the XpandR.

A two-colour indicator shows Power, Merge mode, MIDI Input and MIDI Output activity.

The MRCC XpandR 4×1 comes housed in a robust and beautiful anodized aluminium enclosure with hand-silk screened user interface, like the MRCC. A USB cable and User Guide are included.

Remote 7 vs XpandR 4×1

Q: What's the difference in I/O between MRCC Remote 7 and MRCC XpandR 4×1?
A: The MRCC Remote 7 adds 5 additional routable outputs to MRCC. These outputs are already built into MRCC. One Remote 7 per MRCC.
XpandR adds 4x DIN inputs, and one DIN output at the expense of an MRCC USB MIDI host port. Up to four XpandR's per MRCC, using MRCC's available USB host ports.

Q: How far away can Remote 7 and XpandR be from MRCC?
A: The Remote 7 comes with a 10M (33 foot) long Ethernet cable. The maximum cable length is about 50 feet (using short MIDI cables).
The XpandR comes with a 2M (6 foot) USB cable. The max supported USB cable length for USB 2.0 is 5M (16.5) feet.

Q: How is each device routed?
A: Remote 7 is routed with the MRCC "remote routing" button. Hold the remote routing button, then select the outputs to route to.
XpandR is routed using the MRCC USB host routing buttons. Select one of the four inputs, then select outputs.
Remote 7 is great for getting MIDI outputs to where you need them. And XpandR is best when you need more MIDI DIN inputs, with the additional utility of a MIDI interface and MIDI merger. Feel free to use both!

Doepfer MSY2 MIDI To SYNC Clock Converter Interface
Cat: 627281 Rel: 23 Jan 17

MIDI clock/sync interface for converting MIDI realtime events into SYNC standard
Notes: MSY2 is an interface that converts the MIDI realtime events Clock, Start and Stop into the corresponding signals Clock and Start/Stop of the SYNC standard. This standard was used e.g. in the Roland devices TB303 bass line or TR808 rhythm composer.

MSY2 is equipped with 2 SYNC DIN sockets (switched in parallel), a Clock miniature jack socket (3.5mm), MIDI-in and MIDI-Thru. SYNC-CLOCK is a periodic signal (0/+5V) representing the tempo. SYNC-START/STOP is a signal that indicates one of the 2 possible states: START = +5V, STOP = 0V. The Clock pin of the SYNC standard is additionally available from a miniature jack socket e.g. for synchronizing the arpeggio input of an analog synthesizer with MIDI.

MSY2 enables the 1:1 conversion of MIDI CLOCK into SYNC CLOCK (i.e. 1 MIDI clock triggers 1 SYNC clock pulse), as well as the reduction of the tempo by dividing the incoming MIDI clock frequency by an integer factor. The factor can be set to any value between 1 and 16 with a DIP switch at the bottom of the MSY2. This corresponds to 96...6 ppm or 24...1,5 ppq (ppm = pulses per measure / ppq = pulses per quarter note). Factor 1 corresponds to the 1:1 conversion. In this case the pulse width of the clock output is fixed to about 4 milliseconds. 16 is the maximum of frequency reduction, i.e. after 16 MIDI clocks 1 SYNC clock appears. For all dividing factors beyond 1 the pulsewidth of the clock signal corresponds to the selected dividing factor.

With two other switches the Start/Stop polarity and the Clock polarity can be changed for special applications not following the SYNC standard.

ERM Midiclock+ MIDI Master Clock (black)
Cat: 531918 Rel: 02 Sep 14

Jitter-free MIDI masterclock for hardware gear or synchronisation with DAWs
Notes: Sync all your sequencers with ease and control the BPM - that's what we designed the midiclock for!

It's an ultra-stable hardware MIDI-Masterclock generator & has a great knob to give you full control over the tempo of your performances.

The midiclock generates incredibly accurate MIDI Clock messages.

It has two DIN MIDI outputs to connect to your gear. The clock signal can be distributed to more than two slaves by using MIDI Thru and you can start and stop everything with a single button.

Simply attach all devices that have MIDI Clock slave capabilities: Sequencers, synthesizers, drummachines and software like 'Live' from Ableton.

How to actually set the current BPM depends on the operating mode:

While using 'Live' mode, the BPM change immediately by turning the knob. You can use this mode if you want to make smooth tempo changes in your performance and are aware, that every turn of the knob changes the BPM.

In the 'Normal' mode, the changed value must be confirmed with a single click of the knob. This mode is perfect if you want to set your tempo once and simply need a stable clock signal. Accidental turning of the knob doesn't affect your BPM.

Cat: 600727 Rel: 12 Feb 16

Professional conversion box for syncing multiple hardware devices
Notes: Professional Sync:
The multiclock solves your sync issues in the studio and on stage once and for all.
Synchronisation of the multiclock to a DAW relies on a sample accurate audio clock stream, which in consequence guarantees absolutely tight clock signals with i1 sample of jitter.
Moreover, you can use it as a standalone generator or hook it up to follow other MIDI, DIN or analog master clocks.

Shift & Shuffle:
To compensate for any time lag of connected gear, you can shift each output channel individually and in realtime back and forth relative to the master clock.
The shift range is completely configurable and has a maximum of i400ms, the resolution is 20us.
If you have set your machines up to be on the spot, start playing with shuffle. Again, individually for each channel and in realtime.

Midi, Din, Modular & LFO:
Each channel can be set to either emit MIDI Clock, DIN sync (sync24) or analog clock.
Analog clock signals are configurable in polarity, start/reset behaviour and feature a flexible clock divider. An analog LFO is available with various waveforms and a range of 0-5V.
If you got them configured, channel settings can always be named and saved as a preset for later recall. Just in case you have a lot of gear.

USB Add-On
If you want, you can have your multiclock with an extra class-compliant USB Midi Add-On.
This enables you to send any MIDI commands from a DAW to your connected slaves while syncing to audio clock.
There is one virtual MIDI output for each channel and all commands are priority-merged with the accurate clock.

Floatingpoint Instruments Multiclock Desktop Sync Clock Device With USB
Cat: 960588 Rel: 06 Sep 23

Professionally sync all your electronic instruments and software.
Notes: The continuation of the ultra-precise E-RM Multiclock, from one of its co-inventors. Rock solid clock generation to sync your hardware, DAW and other software.

Supplier's Notes:
Professionally sync all your electronic Instruments and Software.

Any clock input

The multiclock can be the main clock generator or synced to external MIDI, DIN sync and Analogue clocks. Synchronization of the multiclock to a DAW relies on a sample accurate audio clock, which allows for rock solid sync signals.

Custom outputs

The multiclock has four outputs. Each channel can be set to either emit MIDI, DIN sync or analogue clock. Analogue clock signals are configurable in polarity and start/reset behavior and individual clock dividers are available.

Shift & shuffle

To compensate for any time lag of your connected gear, you can shift each of the four output channels individually and in realtime back and forth relative to the reference clock. If you then have found the sweet spot, you can add a bit of shuffle.

MIDI router

To become the central connection hub of your setup, a powerful MIDI Router is available. It allows you to route and merge other MIDI data from four USB MIDI ports and the onboard MIDI In with the accurate clock signals.

Professional DAW integration

VST, AU & AAX plugins
Synchronization of the multiclock to a DAW relies on a sample accurate audio clock stream, which in consequence guarantees absolutely tight clock signals with i1 sample of jitter. No drifting involved, everything on the grid. VST, AU and AAX plugins for all major DAWs are provided, or you create your own sync loop with our sample.

Plenty of modular features

Clocks, Dividers, Triggers and LFO

You can configure the modular clock output mode in every possible way: choose the polarities of the signals, select the start or reset behaviour for each channel individually and set clock dividers. There is also an analogue LFO available with various waveforms and optional frequency quantization to connect to the Eurorack world.

Sync your (vintage) gear...

MIDI, DIN Sync & Tape

Sync all your drummachines, grooveboxes, sequencers, arpeggiators and effects with a stable MIDI Clock or DIN sync/sync24 signal. But also your tape machine can be back in the game: simply record a 24ppq loop of our sync sample to one track, connect the tape machine to the multiclock Audio In and be in sync!

Kenton MIDI USB Host mk3 USB Host To MIDI Converter
Cat: 884863 Rel: 22 Jun 22

USB Host to MIDI converter for ‘Class Compliant’ USB MIDI Devices
Notes: Your USB device is plugged into the MIDI USB Host mk3 instead of into a computer. It provides MIDI In & Out sockets for USB MIDI keyboards and controllers which have only a USB B type socket. For example, used with a USB-Solo, it allows the USB-Solo to be used in a standard MIDI setup, just like a Pro-Solo. It has a USB Host port (USB A type socket), a MIDI In and a MIDI Out (both 5 pin DIN).

The MIDI USB Host mk3 now has additional features. In addition to the standard operating mode, there are now two further modes.

Standard mode (LED Green):
MIDI data received at the MIDI In socket is sent to the USB device and MID data from the USB device is sent to the MIDI Out socket.

Merge 1 mode (LED Amber):
MIDI IN does not go to USB device but instead is merged with MIDI data coming from the USB device which is then sent to the MIDI Out socket.

Merge 2 mode (LED Red):
MIDI IN data is sent to the USB device & is also merged with MIDI data from the USB device which is then sent to the MIDI Out socket.

The modes are selected sequentially by pressing the recessed push button - the LED colour indicating which mode is current.

The attached USB MIDI device MUST be 'Class Compliant'.

The MIDI USB HOST is powered by a regulated 5V mains adaptor (supplied), and can supply up to 1 Amp of buss power to the attached USB device. This product is supplied with a multi-region power supply suitable for use in most countries.

Attractively finished in brushed aluminium with black screen print

Dimensions: 110mm x 55mm x 32mm

Connecting
You can connect one "Class Compliant" USB device directly into the MIDI USB Host. If your host has the latest firmware already installed then you can plug in a powered USB hub and up to four USB devices can then be connected. Earlier MIDI USB Host mkIIs can be updated with a free download which is available from the support section of our website. Serial numbers N6-2421 already have the hub compatible firmware. Serial numbers N3-0541and upward can be updated.

It is recommended that you attach your USB device to the MIDI USB Host before applying power. Then plug-in and power the power adaptor. The active LED should be lit up. If you apply power with nothing plugged into the MIDI USB Host, the Active LED will flash steadily; this is to indicate that it is waiting for a suitable device to be attached. If it is still flashing when you have attached your device, then it is possible that your device is not class compliant, however you could try turning off the power and start again.

Some USB MIDI devices have two modes of operation and can be set to operate in Class Compliant mode even if this is not the default. The Class Compliant mode might be called "generic driver", the other mode may be called something like "advanced driver". Consult the device manual to see if the mode can be set for Class Compliant.

If you unplug then re-plug the USB cable while it is powered the device might reconnect, but it is not certain.

Power

It is essential to use only the supplied 5V regulated power adaptor. Applying a voltage higher than 5V to the MIDI USB Host will probably not damage the MIDI USB Host itself, but it could damage any attached USB device as the 5V is passed on to the attached USB device for buss power. There is protection circuitry inside the MIDI USB Host to protect against reverse polarity and over-voltage, but these should be treated as a last resort and are not guaranteed to prevent damage to an attached USB device in the event of over-voltage as the USB buss voltage could rise to 6.5V before being clamped.

Care should be taken to ensure that power adaptors for other pieces of equipment are not accidentally plugged into the MIDI USB Host.

If the input voltage rises above 6.5 volts then power will be shut off. The LED will go out and the unit will not operate again until power has been removed for at least 60 seconds. This allows time for the thermal fuse to reset.

The following Yamaha keyboards ar known to be class compliant and therefore should work OK:

PSR-E353, PSR-E443
PSR-S670, PSR-S770, PSR-S970, PSR-A3000, TYROS-5
NP-12, NP-32
DGX-650, DGX-660
P-105, P-115, P-255

The following keyboards are known to incorporate a USB hub and therefore will only work with firmware v2005 or later (s/n N6-2421 and above) for the MIDI USB Host:

Korg Microkey 61
Korg Microkey 49
Korg Microkey 37

Power: 90mA, USB mini-B socket - leaving 910 mA available for the attached USB device
Dimensions: 110 x 55 x 32 mm
Weight: 100g (excluding power supply)
MIDI: 1x IN, 1x OUT - both 5 pin DIN
Power Supply: 5V DC / 1 Amp regulated - (never use an unregulated supply as unregulated supplies typically give a higher output voltage than shown).

This product is supplied with a multi-region power supply which is suitable for use in the UK, EU, US/Canada and AUS/NZ.

MIDI Solutions Breath Controller
Cat: 524243 Rel: 14 Mar 14

Compact MIDI unit for generating MIDI data from Yamaha BC3A and older BC2 Breath Controller
Notes: * Note that Yamaha has discontinued the BC3A, however we will continue to produce this product in the near term for customers that have previously purchased the BC3A.

The MIDI Solutions Breath Controller is a breath to MIDI converter for use with the Yamaha BC3A Breath Controller (TM). The Breath Controller accepts the BC3A as input and generates continuous MIDI data corresponding to the amount of breath pressure applied to it. The Breath Controller will also accept older Yamaha BC2 units.

The Breath Controller can be programmed to send:

Aftertouch

Pitch Bend

Control Change

System Exclusive

The Breath Controller has a MIDI Echo parameter that is selectable on/off.

Another unique feature of the Breath Controller is its ability to add a variable amount of curvature to the response of the applied pressure of the BC3A. This allows you to correct for a nonlinear response, or to add greater response at one end of the breath range compared to the other.

The Breath Controller is programmed by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages (see FAQs - Programming). Once programmed, its settings are retained even after power is removed. The Breath Controller can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed. The Breath Controller's factory default settings are for it to send CC #7 (volume) on MIDI channel 1, with the Echo parameter set to ON.

The Breath Controller is MIDI-powered, and requires no batteries or power supply to operate with most MIDI products (see FAQs - Power and FAQs - LED for more information). A MIDI indicator LED lights up when the product is powered and flashes when MIDI data passes through it.
