Studio Headphone Amplifiers

Notes: Sometimes floor monitors are a problem. There isn't enough room for them onstage or someone sits in and can't hear the monitors or the drummer can't hear them well enough. Or perhaps it's a pick-up gig or a rehearsal and you didn't have enough time to set them up. In any case, sometimes it would be preferable just to put on headphones and somehow connect them to the PA. That's where a headphone tap comes in. This is a passive device with an input to connect the PA or monitor amplifier and an output to connect the headphones. A volume control regulates the headphone level and internal resistors keep the unit's impedance high enough to protect the headphones. It also protects the amplifier from encountering too low a load impedance while powering tap units, the speaker system or several tap units by themselves.

The HeadTAP will also work with a stereo headphone amplifier for use in recording situations when you want to add headphones for additional performers.

Notes: A performer needs to hear him/herself through headphones exclusively or mixed with the output of a mixer, CD player, tape deck, or other stereo line level source. Only the mic signal, however, should be going to the main mixer.

Connect the MyMONITOR between the mic and line source, and the mixer. The mic and line monitor levels can then be adjusted for mix and volume through the headphones. Only the mic signal will go to the board. And since the MyMONITOR can be AC or battery powered, the unit can be used on a large stage or wherever there is no AC outlet nearby. Dynamic or condenser mics can be used since phantom power would come through the mic thru jack from the mixer or other source.

Notes: The HM-2 is more than a simple dual channel headphone amplifier. It allows you to independently mix the level of your microphone with a stereo source making it an ideal unit for personal monitoring, either on stage or in the studio.

To set up your HM2, make sure all the knobs are turned all the way down. Connect the supplied DC adapter to the 20V DC POWER INPUT on the rear panel and then plug the adapter into any standard AC outlet.

Connect your microphone to the HM2 MIC INPUT using a standard balanced XLR microphone cable. Then use a second standard microphone cable to connect the MIC THRU output to the input on your main mixer.

Check Your Phase:
Before bouncing your mix, you should always check to ensure that it's compatible with mono speaker systems.
