Korg Volca Drum Digital Percussion Synthesiser (drum machine/percussion synthesiser)
Cat: 715951 Rel: 21 Mar 19

Drum machine with 16-step sequencer, 6 dual-layer drum parts, MIDI input & sync I/O
Notes: Welcome to an infinitely expanding world of sound-design. Joining volca kick and beats as the third, and most unique, drum synth in the volca lineup. The volca series is all about unique sound. Whether it's analogue, PCM, or FM, the volca series puts unique sounds into an accessible platform. And now, the series is joined by a new rhythm machine that brings yet another sonic character. It's the volca drum digital percussion synthesizer. Based on a simple trigger waveform, wave folder and overdrive are used to add overtones and distortion, and then a waveguide resonator effect brings the sound to life. The six-part DSP synth engine was designed with a completely different philosophy than conventional drum machines, and generates a wide range of unexpectedly different sounds. And of course, you can play those sounds from the volca-style sequencer.

Adding these distinctive sounds to your rhythms will revolutionarily transform your performances and productions.

Digital percussion synth with a 6-part x 2-layer structure:

The term "digital" typically brings to mind sounds that are based on PCM-sampled bass drum, snare drum, or cymbal, but the volca drum creates its drum sounds by DSP-powered analogue modelling. Oscillator waveforms such as sine wave, sawtooth wave, and noise are provided. By applying various changes to these waveforms, you can create a wide variety of percussion sounds that range from realistic to idiosyncratic, and are not limited only to drums.

The six parts each have two layers, and do not impose any rules or restrictions such as specifying which parts must be used for the bass drum or for the cymbal; all parts have the same specifications. You can freely assign your new sounds to these six parts without being limited by the conventions of a drum set. A kit consists of the six parts that you've assigned plus the waveguide resonator effect settings, and 16 such kits can be stored in memory (the factory settings contain 10 preload kits).

Distinctive sound from a newly developed DSP engine:

Each part consists of two layers. For each layer, users choose one of five types of oscillator waveform including sine wave, sawtooth wave, and HPF noise, and also choose from three types of pitch modulator and amp EG, each optimized for drum sounds. Layer parameters can be edited either individually or simultaneously, and users can also use the two layers to produce the same sound for additional thickness.

Waveguide resonator adds rich resonances:

The effect section features a waveguide resonator that's based on physical modelling, and which adds sympathetic resonances to the sound. You can choose from two types of waveguide: "tube" which adds the resonance of a cylindrical object such as a drum body or a long pipe, or "strings" which adds the metallic resonance of a string. The three knobs located in the centre of the panel let you specify the DECAY (amount of attenuation), BODY (sonic character), and TUNE (pitch). Setting TUNE to a lower value will produce a delay-like behaviour. You can take advantage of these knobs not only for sound design but also in your live performances.

16-step sequencer with a wide range of parameter automation:

The 16-step sequencer is excellent for improvisation. You can easily create patterns using the 16 buttons, each corresponding to one of the 16 steps. In addition to step recording, the sequencer also supports realtime recording in which you can construct a pattern while looping the playback. The pattern chain function lets you play multiple sequence patterns successively, so you can successively play back desired patterns of consecutive numbers. Up to 16 sequences can be connected to construct patterns with 256 steps.

Polyrhythmic drum module featuring raw analogue drum sound
Notes: - 3 x external audio out
- 1 x audio out
- 3 x cassation bass drum
- With clock
- Internal or external
- Trigger in
- Click out

The MULTI CASSA is an electronic Eurorack module for percussion sound and special FX. Created by LEP Laboratories, the MULTI CASSA module takes inspiration from the Leploop synth. MULTI CASSA is a combination of two modules with different pitch settings, the first maintains the original pitch, the second increases the pitch to recreate the sound off high tom or snare drum.

TRIG MIX: The rhythm played by the MULTI CASSA is the sum of the two trig IN1 and IN2. The trig mix pot adjusts the mix between the two trig input, which is great for creating polyrhythms.

FREQUENCY: Adjusts the pitch of the sound, also effects the resonance.

RESONANCE: Adjust the resonance, i.e. the damping time of the case. Beyond a certain level the MULTI CASSA can go into permanent oscillation. The level at which the oscillation begins varies with frequency.

DISTORTION: Adjusts the level of signal distortion.

analogue drumcomputer
Notes: What's your fave 70s German analogue drum machine? Probably this one. MFB reboot the basic vintage model, adding new features like a step sequencer, drum tuning and MIDI to bring it up to date.

Supplier notes:
The MFB-301 Pro drum computer is a modern version of our classic MFB-301. It offers eight analog drum- and percussion-instruments which are based upon the original circuits being used in the MFB-301 and the clap-module MFB-401. However, the circuits have been further refined for the Pro-version.
The MFB-301 Pro offers a sequencer with up to 16 steps, capable of storing 108 patterns and 36 songs. By chaining two patterns it allows creating beats with 32 steps. A global shuffle mode with five graduations will make your beats swing. Programming can be carried out in real time or step by step.
All instruments can be adjusted in three sound parameters and in level. The sound parameters pitch, note length and attack can individually be set per step. In addition, the values may also be controlled by MIDI CC commands and recorded into the sequence in real time. All instrument levels can be adjusted separately and being programmed per track. The MFB-301 Pro can be synchronized to a MIDI clock or an analog clock signal. Available are stereo outputs as well an an adjustable headphones output.
Power supply comes from the included USB-power adapter. The unit can be updated via its USB port, but only Windows PC's.
MFB-301 Pro is the ideal expansion for MFB Tanzmaus. Combined, all instruments of the MFB Tanzbar 1 are available. Also, the MFB-301 Pro can be controlled and even be programmed from MFB Tanzmaus via MIDI.

Hybrid analogue & sample based drum machine
Notes: The Tanzbar 2 is a further development of the successful Tanzbar with a slightly different concept. Here, in addition to the LCD display, emphasis was placed on a hybrid structure, which allows the sounds to be selected more versatile, and the bass voice has also been upgraded to a fully-fledged synthesizer.

The drum machine features 7 analogue percussion instruments, an analogue bass synthesizer, 3 digital sample voices with analogue multifilters and 10 sample instruments, of which 2 instruments share a sample voice. The samples can be exchanged via a free tool offered on our website and allow everyone to have their own personal drum sound. The sample memory contains around 300 seconds for 208 samples.

Also noteworthy is that each instrument has its own LFO (replaces the "Bend function in the predecessor Tanzbar) and thus does not stand in the way of diverse modulations. The sequencer has chase programming and can store 100 patterns. The patterns can be chained via "CHAIN" and have up to 64 steps (A / B / C / D). Furthermore, 16 different Flames can be programmed, multiple triggers are a breeze. The plumb line can be adjusted individually for each instrument, making it easy to realize polymetric grooves. 32th, 16th or 16th / 8th triplet is adjustable as a metric.

There are 4 different Accente available by instrument. The sound parameters can be recorded by step recording. Two tracks appeal to external Midi instruments, practically, no external sequencer needed! The shuffle can be individually or globally regulated in strength. Step programming also sends Midi Out and of course can control other sound sources.

The drum computer can be synchronized via USB or MIDI via Midi Clock. In addition to a master volume, each instrument has its own volume slider (except for four sample voices where this is controlled via the endless dial) and the mute button mutes the individual instruments. There are 12 single outputs (mini jack) and a stereo output (large stereo jack) available.
