Hangin' On A String
Cat: SOUTH 008. Rel: 12 Jan 21
  1. Hangin' On A String (Frankie Knuckles club mix) (6:26)
  2. Hangin' On A String (Frankie Knuckles Classic club reprise) (6:07)
  3. Hangin' On A String (12" mix) (5:58)
Review: Put simply, Loose Ends' 1985 hit 'Hangin' On A String' is not only a peerless UK soul classic, but also one of the greatest boogie-era dancefloor cuts full stop. You should really already own a copy, but if you don't, then this South Side reissue should be on your shopping list. Not only does it contain the band's brilliant original extended mix (B2) - a sing-along gem rich in hazy organ sounds, jazzy guitar solos and bustling electro-era beats - but also two celebrated 1992 remixes from Frankie Knuckles. Both are amongst the late, great DJ/producer's finest remixes, with the more instrumental and impeccably loved-up 'Reprise' version, in which Knuckles builds gently before eventually unleashing chorus vocals, being our pick of an incredibly strong pair.

  3. One Plus One (Dave Lee reprise) (5:35)
Review: Now going by his given name of Dave Lee rather than his obviously problematic previous alias Joey Negro, the Z Records boss has not showed any dip in form since the switch. Here he serves up three of his legendary mixes, this time tackling an unearthed and unreleased Leroy Burgess tape that was recorded in the same sessions as 'Heartbreaker'. 'One Plus One' is the sound of an artist in his prime, with lush backing singers adding buttery warmth to the lead vocals, big instrumentals filing your soul with joy and noodling bass driving things along. All three mixes are superb and subtle in equal measure.

Review: Dirty Burner Personify dusts off his scalpel for the first time this year with two beautiful, floor-aimed edits of two late 70s soul funk bangers.Soul On Your Side' takes the lead with its belting vocals and even juicier bassline. Meanwhile on the flip You Can Be Star' gets a little tweak in the kick department, a slight extension and a disco bubbled boost for modern floors. Take it personally.

Review: Sacred Rhythm founder Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell is a master of his own musical universe. It is spiritual, deep, and wrapped up in the sort of palpable feelings most producers can't ever dream of conveying. His trademark sound is here in all its glory on this new pair of remixes of 'Walpole Days' for Claremont 556. His Sacred Rhythm mix is all subtle pads and organic perc, majestic cosmic leads and classy chords that ooze a late night soul. Flip it over and you'll find a Sacred Cosmic Arts Jam that is only slightly different, with extra space given to the leads.

  1. Got To Get Your Love (Muro Diguma edit) (5:21)
  2. Got To Get Your Love (Muro Diguma edit - instrumental) (4:15)
Review: The latest set of Diguma Edits sees dusty-fingered Japanese digger-turned-re-editor DJ Muro take his scalpel to 'Got to Get Your Love' by Clyde Alexander & Sanction, a suspenseful and action-packed 1980 number from producers Peter Brown and Gary Davis. Muro first cuts down and compresses the ten-minute vocal version, making merry with the track's unusual combination of classic disco grooves, showtunes-style orchestration and eccentric vocals. Over on the flip he does a similar job on the slightly different instrumental take, in turns showcasing the track's crunchy guitars, warming electric pianos, spacey synths and grandiose orchestration.

  2. Sound Of Joy - "Can't Fake The Feeling - feat Virag (Souxsoul remix)" (7:03)
  3. Vertigini - "We Never Part" (6:05)
  4. HP Vince - "Sexy Music (Danny's Disco reprise)" (9:20)
Review: Cruise Music present some crowd-pleasing, feel good funky house re-rubs will go down well with everyone from seasoned heads to happy-go-lucky party people. Diana Ross sounds funky as anything on Mark Funk & Danny Cruz's 'It's My House', while the Souxsoul remix of Sound Of Joy's 'Can't Fake The Feeling' keeps Virag's vocal front and centre and teases out the tension until a sweet disco release. Vertigini gets busy with the filter on the bumping, sunkissed 'We Never Part', and HP Vince's 'Sexy Music' gets revisited by Danny Disco for a perfectly poignant set-ending 'moment' piece with sentimentality to match its groove.

  1. Emancipacao (5:05)
  2. 50 Anos Em 5 (4:37)
Review: Diogo Strausz has previously released on Razor-N-Tape as part of the duo Balako but now steps up as a solo artist to kick off the label's 2021. A Sao Paulista now living in Paris, he brings plenty of musicality to the slick 7", firstly with 'Emancipacao,' which is awash with melancholic keys and rich bass but also plenty of fantastic leads from both synths and sax. It's splashy and splashy and colourful disco. '50 Anos Em 5' then gets playful and funky with a Latin twist as the salsa beats an squelchy bass all make you want to spin on your heels.

Review:  Party days can't be that far away now, and Cardiology continue to have you covered with some of the choicest slabs in the edit game. This time it's C Da Afro on the buttons, shining bright after a massively productive 2020 in which he slipped out no less than five records. He's clearly not short on material to get busy on the slice and dice with, given the quality of the gear he's presenting on this new 12". As you'd expect for Cardiology the tracks aren't that easily trainspotted, ranging from the insanely catchy disco delights of 'Hustle' to the housed-up funk of 'Hold Up'. It's serious music for serious heads, but with that universal party starting appeal that any self-respecting disco edit should have.

Review: Krewcial is a master of clever cut up and paste and edit jobs. He tackles a big range of old soul and disco sounds that many will know and love and he does it on labels like Gamm, Riot, We Play House and now Vinylators. 'Extended Girl' is a shoe cold classic with big trumpets and drawn out breaks all making the original that bit more club ready. 'Piano Girl' is another edit of the same tune but here with more pianos laced in - no prizes for guessing that one - and Dub Girl is a final version of the same tune that pairs things back to the bare essentials.

  2. I Was Born This Way (Moplen dub #2) (7:26)
Review: The irrepressible West End has long been a bastion of the global disco scene with their tireless issues of golden grooves old and new. Now they cast it back to 1977 when Carl Bean first recorded for the Motown label. It has since been reissued a number of times and this occasion includes two differing dubs. A-side 'I Was Born This Way' (Moplen dub #1) features plenty of well sampled sounds as a driving disco beat, all finished off with a great vocal. Then the second dub strips it back to a more fleshy and funky groove.

Review: Cardiology get serious yet again on their fourth outing with The Owl taking a break from his self-titled label to follow up February's Universal Funk with some further sizzling edits. First up is a twist on Mad Dog Fire Department's classic party starter "Cosmic Funk", which gets a tasteful house thump to amp up the dancefloor impact of the track. "Ms Brown" is a big singalong belter with a beat to match, while "We Do It" smooths things out with a slinky vibe that translates well to another forthright 4/4 bump. "Fresh Groove" finishes the record off in a steamy, hazy groove that will take the dancers deeper in, without a doubt.

  1. Darkness Falls (7:56)
  2. Cascade (5:21)
  3. For Your Love (6:13)
  4. Bala (5:57)
Review: Misiu kicks off the Heads High label in style, building on a style first hinted at on an edit 12" for Razor N Tape back in 2016. The mood on 'Darkness Falls' is swooning and romantic, steeped in stirring string refrains, earworm analogue leads and a sweet, disco-licked groove. 'Cascade' has a more bumping house feel to it, replete with diva vocal hooks and a nagging organ line. 'For Your Love' is the peak time, sun down anthem of the record, dropping in some treasured vocal hooks and tasteful peaks and troughs of energy. The record rolls out on the lilting charms of 'Bala', which uses a more eclectic palette to deliver a very different feel to the other three tracks and leave the possibilities wide open for Misiu's next move.

  1. Beastie Boys Vs MFSB - "Check It Out People" (4:19)
  2. MFSB - "People All Over The World" (dub) (4:08)
Review: The latest edition in DJ Soopasoul's "Soopastole Edits" series looks like it may fly off the shelves, and with good reason. The lead cut is not an edit per se, but rather a crafty, clever and expertly produced mash-up that places selected rap flows from the acapella version of Beastie Boys classic "Ch-Check It Out" over a tightened up and fattened up rearrangement of MFSB's disco-era jam "People All Over The World". Sometimes these kinds of mash-ups can be messy, but this genuinely isn't, with the Beasties' vocals fitting the backing track like a glove. Over on side B Soopasoul shares his tweak of the MFSB track, which is entirely instrumental bar periodic use of the band's female backing vocals. In a word: ace!

Time Of The Season (Record Store Day Black Friday 2020)
  1. Time Of The Season (edit by Mr K) (7:41)
  2. Theme From Great Cities (edit by Mr K) (9:35)
Review: Reaching deep into the earliest foundations of his voluminous collection, Danny Krivit presents a psychedelic pop classic rearranged for today's sound systems and setlists. Recorded in the Beatles' Abbey Road studio at the height of the Summer Of Love, the Zombies' "Time Of The Season" is firmly linked in pop culture to the late '60s and the Vietnam era, although it almost never made it out to a wider audience. Ignored on its initial release, it was given a second chance by the label as the last gasp from a band that had officially split up a year before. This time around the song steadily gained fans and word-of-mouth plays in the U.S. and by the summer of 1969, two years after it had been recorded, "Time Of The Season" was ubiquitous and well on its way to being firmly enshrined as an emblem of the era.

Krivit's edit highlights the parade of lush sonic textures that ornament the hip composition, from the iconic, exquisitely echoed bass-clap-exhale riff that opens the song to the cascading Hammond organ solos of Rod Argent. Naturally, this MEU issue keeps the audio quality at its highest level, the better to appreciate these nuances. "It's a song from my childhood that really struck a chord," Danny says. "Over the years I often played a rough edit which always seemed to go over great. The song seemed to get better and better, and age like fine wine." We agree!

From flowers and incense, we move to glass and steel. "Theme For Great Cities" envelops us in a soaring, intense groove, as emblematic of the post-punk no wave style of 1981 as "Time of the Season" was to its own era. Produced by Gong's Steve Hillage, this futuristic instrumental is a bit like Bowie's wordless works with Eno, with an added downtown edge. "The original really struck me," Danny recalls, "especially at Roxy in the early '80s hip hop nights, on that Richard Long sound system... It really blew me away with its atmosphere!"

Danny's edit combines the lean and mean original with a trackier remixed version, cleanly lifting off on an epic ride that clocks in at nearly ten minutes. With the revised rhythm section and its quick-punched low end sandwiching the meat of the original's punishing drums and aggressive, picked bass line, Mr. K gives us the best of the expanded sonics of the remix without losing the atmospherics of the original take.

  2. C-Pull - "Soulmate (John Beltran remix)" (6:10)
  3. John Beltran - "Summer Storm (Nigel Hayes remix)" (6:56)
Review: The pointedly deep Astrolife label, run by Nigel Hayes and Vincent Inc, is taking things way, way down with this stunning 12" from John Beltran. It's a varied affair that leads in with the sumptuous, percussive house pattering of Beltran's remix of Hayes and Rachel Berg's 'Take Me To The Sea'. It's the kind of track that will transport you to dreamy, sun-soaked terraces in a flash. Beltran's version of C-Pull's 'Soulmate' is a very different affair - a peppy broken beat groover that wouldn't sound out of place being worked by the likes of Kaidi Thatham or Dego. Then Hayes is back, this time remixing Beltran's 'Summer Storm' and giving it a chunky rhythm section to carry the hazy melodics into peak time.

For this one he takes two classics from the jazz-disco world and adds his own distinctive spins. Review: The Gooey Editz label quickly follows up its first soon to sell out missive with this new serving of today disco edits. It's the Frankfurt producer Siggatunez who is behind this one once again and opens up with 'Rain', a smooth and soulful groove with nice tight drumming and a rich vocal. 'If It Ain't' is a slower more, sensual groove with big horns and 'A Star' then brings the funky, noodling jazz with plenty of freeform expression. 'Fun' closes out with a shimmering and deep beat that gets right under the skin and layers up lush chords.

Review: On his previous 12" singles for Joe's Bakery and People Must Jam, Sebastian Graetz AKA Basso has proved adept at crafting really rather good, Balearic-minded re-edits out of odd, obscure and overlooked records he's found on record shopping trips. He's at it again on Drum Chums Volume One, flitting between chiming, sun-kissed, synth-laden mid-80s jazz-funk-fusion ('Do Stay For Breakfast'), delightfully camp and borderline cheesy disco ('Soft Choppers'), sparse and delay-laden synth-pop eccentricity (the hard-to-describe but rather brilliant 'Simple Stroll'), and the kind of cosmic, otherworldly synthesizer fare that arguably sounds way more inspired now than it did when it was originally released (the early '80s Tangerine Dream style fizz of 'Breaking Bread').

Now they launch a label loaded with smoking hot edits that very much speak to the vibe of their parties - rich, warm 70s grooves that spring from the staple sounds of disco into cool, slick and psychedelic spheres. First up is Joi La Frique with the French flair of 'Family Rally', while Beard In Dust lays down some heavy slapping, cowbell toting funk with 'Calypso Boy'. Review: Gary's Gang - 'Let's Lovedance Tonight' originally came in 1979 and is the source of a well known, international dance music hit. It's a gloriously upbeat bit of disco that got an edit from the master that is Danny Krivt back in 207. He took that monster break, and cleverly extended and looped it for nearly six superb minutes, and the result is infectious as the organic perc and rumbling drums constantly make you move. The third volume of veritable Glitterbox Jams is another dazzling one with Melvo Baptiste opening up on a nice smoochy and smooth groove with sleek bass and vocals that immediately pull you in. Review: Serious disco business here from Felix Bastedos. He may not have been born in wedlock but he sure knows his way around an edit. Two pretty obscure cuts here get Bastedized: on the A we have 'Anywhere You Want To Go', a big old heavy disco funk groove with plenty of switches and surprises along the way. Meanwhile on the B things step up a notch or two tempo wise as the almost country-styled vocal takes the lead as we pray for the night to never end. Keep on dancing.

Mysterious newcomer producer Demi Riquisimo takes care of the opener with a remix of Elia y Elizabeth's signature hit 'Alegria' that is brilliantly tropical and new age. Review: There's no secret to the success of Late Nite Tuff Guy's long-running Tuff Cuts series. Buyers have simply responded to the consistency of the Australian producer's approach, and the quality of loopy, house-friendly re-edits. This eighth volume features more party-starting fare, from the glassy-eyed extended breakdown of "Go For That" (yep, a Hall & Oates rework) and soft-touch house take on Marvin Gaye ("Heard It"), to the end-of-night bliss of "Dreams", a decidedly warm and rolling rearrangement of the famous Fleetwood Mac cut of the same name. As if that wasn't enough bangers in one place, he finishes with a triumphant rework of disco-era Michael Jackson ("Starting Something").

Further proof of this assertion can be found on RWY, the third 12" on the producer's own Revision Records imprint. The title track sees him once again take his scalpel to a track by Michael Jackson, subtly building layering up and extending "Rock With You" (a feat made possible by his ability to get hold of multi-track parts to the material he re-edits). On the flip, he successfully tampers with Lionel Richie's end-of-night classic "All Night Long". Brilliantly, he removes much of the percussion during key vocal passages, which in turn gives subsequent choruses extra dancefloor oomph. Bravo, Sir.

Review: Is there a more iconic modern disco duo that Lindstom and Prins Thomas? The superb Scandic-pair link up here to great effect on a six track record for Smalltown Supersound. As ever the references are far and wide, from world music to deep house, cosmic ambience to synth music. The tracks are stuffed with subtle details and a rich overarching musicality that makes them as good for focussed headphone listening as it does an early evening dance. 'Oranges' is achingly gorgeous, 'Harmonia' is awash in lush arps and 'Small Stream' is dreamy bliss. Once again these maestros have come through with the goods.

  3. Be Funky (4:23)
  4. It Ain't What You Got (5:00)
Review: The Owl is back on his own young but impressive label after an outing on Burnski's Cardiology Records that got plenty of props. Here the artist is back to serving up chunky disco and house fusions that have had high profile support already on BBC 6Music. Chunky blues stomper 'In The Right Place' kicks off with long legged and super heavy drums, 'Fair' then takes it back with old school funk breaks and 'Be Funky' stretches its legs with little guitar riffs and muffled bass all designed to work the floor into a lather. 'It Ain't What You Got' then roads out with the most strident and pumping groove of them all.

Music For Us (reissue) (incl Danilo Braca remix)
Cat: HM 1006. Rel: 29 Dec 20
  1. Music For Us
  2. Music For Us (instrumental)
  3. Music For Us (Danilo Braca Re-built mix)
Review: Blackway & Helene released 'Music For Us' in 1982, creating a hit in the process. The plush Italo vibes positively pour out of the track with stylish aplomb - it's no wonder the track has been picked up for reissue by House Of Music. The A side is given over to the original vocal and instrumental versions of the track, both of which feature a veritable army of synths to get down to, all held together with a pleasingly loose vibe. Marking this release out in particular though is the remix on the flip from Danilo Braca - a true Italian underground hero with just the right ear to take the track into a whole new dimension without losing sight of the original vibe.

Review: Emotional Rescue are turning their attention to King & City, a label that dealt in the UK-rooted take on reggae, lovers rock, at the turn of the '80s. First up is this sublime cover of William DeVaughn's evergreen, much-covered soul classic 'Be Thankful For What You Got'. This take is breezy and hopeful, but still shot through with a certain sense of longing in the tight riddim backing up the sweet vocals. On the flip, Emotional draft in one of their favourite remixers, the mighty Lexx, to deliver a disco mix that teases out the original and amps up the dub-outs for maximum groove satisfaction.

  1. Hit It N Quit It (Cratebug & Jamie 3:26 edit remix) (7:33)
Review: Chicago stalwarts Cratebug and Jamie 3:26 were relatively little-known when they joined forces to create this killer rework of Loleatta Holloway's Salsoul classic "Hit 'N' Run" way back in 2011. The interpretation, which laces choice passages of Holloway's impassioned vocal over a loopy and driving house groove reminiscent of Paperclip People's "Throw", first appeared on vinyl as part of Lumberjacks In Hell's now impossible-to-find Chicago Service compilation four years ago. Happily, Salsoul has decided to reissue it on this must-have, single-sided 12". It's more of a remix than a re-edit, and is guaranteed to get things going at peak-time. Basically, it's a banger, and you need it in your box.

Hills Of Katmandu (Patrick Cowley & Jurgen Kopper remixes)
Cat: MS 501. Rel: 13 Jan 21
  1. Hills Of Katmandu (Patrick Cowley Underground mix) (13:33)
  2. Hills Of Katmandu (Hans-Jurgen Koppers re-edit) (15:52)
Review: Bologna born Italo Disco legend Celso Valli's 'Tantra' project had one aim; to push the boundaries of disco! Released in 1979 in the vein of Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder, 'Hills of Katmandu' is a unique, progressive slice of classic Italo Disco. The pulsating 'Moroder-on-steroids bassline', menacing female vocal and warbling synths take you on a trippy disco journey. The track became a huge dancefloor anthem at legendary clubs such as The Loft and The Saint in New York and Baia Degli Angeli in Rimini. Originally available on vinyl in 1982 on San Francisco's "Hot Classics" DJ Service", Patrick Cowley's "Original Underground Mix" is a work of pure genius that unleashes his skills on the synths and somehow manages to surpass the original. High Fashion Music have enrolled Ben Liebrand to restore all the original remix-tapes, managing to re-edit and adjust each and every nuance to perfection, taking away any and all flaws which appeared in the original and it's acetates, so that it is now steady preserving the original Hi NRG sound. This is the first time this restored and upgraded version has been released. On the flip-side, there is the original 16'20 minutes version of the Jurgen Koppers mix, an extended re-edit of the original Celso Valli version, which appeared first on Disconet in 1979, and in the following year on the US (Importe/12) release of the "Tantra - the Double Album" longplayer.

Review: Red Greg is a superlative crate digger, funk and soul expert and fine producer. He has a wealth of knowledge that always informs his music and now Finnish label Kojak Giant Sounds welcomes him for two timeless disco classics. 'Do It' is a busy tune, a bustling groover with punchy kicks and squalling synth leads all sprinkled with cosmic dust. The excellent 'Peace' is then a more warm and organic vocal gem with a male lead backed by lush vocal harmonies as organs, keys and percussion all hustle for your attention in the background.

Review: Given the quality of Session Victim's 2012 debut album, Haunted House of House, expectations are naturally high for this follow-up. Like its' predecessor, See You When You Get There takes a widescreen approach to deep house, with the German duo drawing on a myriad of influences, from jazz ("Hey Stranger"), soundtracks ("Crystal Maze") and evocative downtempo beats (the impeccable title track), to Atmosfear-ish jazz-funk ("The Most Beautiful Divorce In The World") and, most notably, classic Balearica (see the druggy pop of "Hyuwee" and deliciously slow "EOS Place". Best of all, though, is "Never Forget", a glorious blues-house epic laden with smoky vocal samples and thrilling piano motifs.

  2. I Can't Turn Around (7" edit By Mr K) (5:24)
Review: The tunes on this 7" have legendary status and are hard to find in original format. But Mr K serves up a couple subtle but essential reworks here that mean you don't need to look any further. Opening up the a-side is 'Love Is The Message', a perfect soul drenched and funky groove train that never lets up, with big sax lines and chunky drum breaks carrying you as far as you want to go. The flip side 'I Can't Turn Around' is a mainstay of the early house scene and has classic status to this day with its broad horns and tender male vocal.

  3. Hypnotized (Loods remix) (5:11)
Review: German nu-disco don Purple Disco Machine has been phenomenally successful in recent years, and there's every chance that this single - a collaboration with little-known British indie band Sophie & The Giants - will raise his profile even more. "Hypnotized" certainly sounds like it has serious crossover potential. In its original "Extended Mix Form", the track is an attractive chunk of radio-friendly mid-tempo nu-disco/80s AM radio synth-pop fusion that comes complete with a catchy, sing-along chorus. Roosevelt smartly gives the track a little more organic disco warmth whilst retaining the prettiness of Purple Disco Machine's original synths, while Loods aims for hands-in-the-air peak-time bliss on a cheery retro-futurist big room house take.

Proof of that comes from this new compendium on the influential West End Records which pulls together the great DJ's Remixes Made Famous At The Legendary Paradise Garage, which is of course where he had one of the most famous residences of them all. Many of these are fairly well known such as the ecstatic disco of Tanja Gardener's 'Heartbeat' or iconic Loose Joints - 'Is It All Over My Face,' but are very much still worth having.

  1. Lift Off (45 edit) (4:05)
  2. Lift Off (U-Key Deep Space edit) (4:40)
Review: For some reason, South Africa was a hotbed of over-the-top, sometimes synth-laden space disco in the late 1970s. Recently Ultra Vybe re-edited and remixed one of the most famous examples, 'Love in Space' by Rene Riche and Her Cosmic Band, and here give another sought-after South African gem the same treatment. Blush's 'Lift Off' first appeared in 1980 and features two female singers banging out suitably cosmic lyrics atop driving drums, twisted synthesizer lines and clipped guitar riffs. It's undeniably catchy and over-the-top in the best possible way, as a quick listen to the A-side "45 Edit" will prove. Over on the flip, U Key fiddles with some filters and provides bumping new drums, thus transforming the track into a disco-house treat.

Review: Here's something that should excite all those who love disco, boogie and quality house: a brand-new single from living legend Melba Moore, produced and mixed by long-serving Chicago producer Terry Hunter. The latter sets the tone with a pleasingly sunny, up-beat and soulful 'Club Mix' that adds early '80s, Latin disco style horns, drowsy guitars, heady electric piano motifs and Moore's superb vocals to a loose-limbed Philly Soul style dancefloor groove that reminded us of classic MFSB productions. Over on the flip Hunter offers up a quick-fix radio edit and a rather wonderful club instrumental, in which his dazzling Rhodes solos and punchy horn arrangements rightly take centre stage. In a word: superb.

  4. Sean McCabe - "Reach Out" (feat Hannah Khemoh - Atjazz remix - Joey Negro edit) (6:47)
Review: To celebrate 30 years of his influential Z Records imprint, Dave Lee AKA Joey Negro has put together an epic, digital-only compilation of label highlights, plus a string of vinyl samplers featuring some suitably sought-after remixes. There's naturally much mouth-watering fare on offer on sampler one, from the classic disco celebration of Lee's string-laden, multi-track rework of Patrice Rushen classic "Haven't You Heard" (a mix as strong as any by Tom Moulton), to the modern deep house-soul flex of Lee's edit of Atjazz's terrific rework of overlooked Sean McCabe classic "Reach Out". Sandwiched in between you'll find a smooth, peak-time ready tweak of Akabu's "Another World" by Andre Lodemann, as well as the squelchy disco-boogie brilliance that is Hot Toddy's P-funk re-make of the Sunbrust Band's "Taste The Groove".

  4. Ayee Morshume Be Reham Duniya (15:37)
Review: Rupa Biswas' 1982 debut Disco Jazz has long been a favourite of dusty-fingered diggers with a healthy bank balance and a penchant for the quirky. All four tracks are cheery, charming and superior to many "Bollywood disco" records produced in the same period. The sunny disco-boogie of 'Moja Bhari Moja' is followed on side A by the delightfully eccentric, bass-powered AOR-disco/funk-rock fusion of "East West Shuffle" and the effortlessly Balearic cheeriness of 'Aaj Shanibar'. Best of all, though, is the exotic and intoxicating flipside cut 'Ayee Morshume Be-Reham Duniya' which expertly joins the dots between cosmic rock and Balearic disco grooves for 16 spellbinding minutes.

Review: Late Nite Tuff Guy bursts through RSD 2016 with a hot selection of disco-flavoured house chuggers, and we'd been waiting on a comeback from both the dude and label - all boxes ticked from our side. "Hold Tite" is the perfect summer blazer, all luscious vocals and dripping beats, and "I Don't Like Acid" takes that same soulful spirit but strips the groove right down to a bopping little rhythm that is likely to be enjoyed by both hip-hop and house fans alike. The flip's "One Night In A Disco" is a sample-heavy, string-infused floor-melter, whereas "Shelter Me" goes all balearic and feet-up - the perfect lounge cut.
