Never Gonna Let You Go
Never Gonna Let You Go (12") (1 per customer)

  1. Never Gonna Let You Go (Theo Parrish Ugly edit) (10:04)
  2. Never Gonna Let You Go (5:10)
Review: For the best part of 17 years, Theo Parrish's legendary re-edit of Made In USA's "Never Gonna Let You Go" was available only to those willing to pay serious sums for a copy of his first "Ugly Edits" release. Thankfully De-Lite has done the admirable thing and made it available to all via this essential new edition of the 1977 jam. It allows those who've never heard Made In USA's heartfelt and surprisingly laidback original to compare the two versions, which only highlights the brilliance of Parrish's re-edit. His ten-minute take speeds up the track, adding choppy edits effects to increase energy before rolling into the most righteous and celebratory bits of the original version. In our opinion, it's one of the greatest re-edits of all time.

Cat: KON 004. Rel: 13 Sep 19
  1. I Want To Thank You (KON Shine Your Light remix) (7:54)
  2. I Want To Thank You (KON dub) (7:49)
Review: Having previously breathed new life into classic cuts from L.T.D, George Duke and Sylvester, Kon has now turned his attention to another all-time favourite: Alicia Myers' 1981 stunner "I Want To Thank You", a disco-era gospel-soul favourite that remains one of the era's most timeless club records. Working from the multi-track tapes, Kon teases out Myers' killer vocal - drenched in just the right amount of reverb and delay - atop a slightly stripped-back groove before giving it the full kitchen sink treatment. Just as good is the flipside Dub, which flits between beat-free sections and the track's killer groove in the manner of disco dubs from the early 1980s. The song itself may not have needed tampering with, but Kon's versions are genuinely superb.

  1. Don't Stop (Ray Mang Special extended mix) (9:21)
  2. Kano Line Dance (6:08)
  3. Don't Stop (5:39)
Review: The Andromeda Orchestra project was last seen on Faze Action last year, when "Get Up & Dance" got the remix treatment by Nick The Record. This time around the project gets a serious disco treatment from Ray Mang, who stretches "Don't Stop" out across the A side for a nine minute pleasure ride that's heavy on the funk. "Kano Line Dance" kicks off the B side in another loose and nasty party jam, before the original Philly string busting brilliance of "Don't Stop" completes the set in fabulous fashion.

Happiness (12")
Cat: MXMRK 2026. Rel: 16 Sep 19
  1. Happiness (Mr K edit) (8:20)
  2. As (Mr K edit) (7:41)
Review: Once again here edit king Mr. K turns his attention to one of the many hits penned by New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint. This time it's a 1978 tune from The Pointer Sisters that they still use as a concert opener whenever they play, despite the fact it didn't chart that well on release. That didn't stop it becoming a dance floor hit though, here the synths are polished up and drawn out with an added acappella and the whole thing dazzles. On the flip is an excellent edit of Gene Harris' cover of Stevie Wonder's transcendent "As", fine-tuned for 2019 and beyond with emphasized percussion and a sinewy extension that cuts the bulk of the lyrical intro and lets Harris's electric piano and the all-star choir shine.

  3. Dirtydrum 01 (5:43)
Review: Dirty Channels have thrown down heated house cuts for the past decade on labels like Ovum, Abstract Theory and Athens Of The North. Now they've been tapped up by Dan Shake to deliver three seriously powerful house cuts loaded with the sample-loving soul sound you'd expect from Shake's label. "Catch Me" is a fiery number that places the diva front and centre, rides the EQ and gets busy with the loops like it ain't no thing. "Can't Stop This Groove" rides a relentless lick and jacks it up with sharp drum machine hats, and "Dirtydrum 01" gets the 909 thump out front for a fierce and fabulous DJ tool.

  1. Funk Is On (vocal) (6:44)
  2. Funk Is On (instrumental) (5:10)
Review: Best just keep coming with the Italo heat, once again tapping into that golden year of 1984. Funky Family was a one-shot studio project that left a much-vaunted record in its wake. The visionary nature of "Funk Is On" is impossible to ignore - from the noirish mood to the physical thrust of the arpeggios, the diva vocals and tough 4/4 groove, this is house music in all but name. Whether you want the vocal cut or the instrumental, Best have you covered - either is going to set the dancefloor alight.

  2. Barbara Mason - "Another Man" (Dr Packer rework) (5:46)
  3. Shirley Lites - "Heat You Up Melt You Down" (Dr Packer rework) (6:55)
Review: The latest contemporary mix-master to get his hands on the West End catalogue is Dr Packer, an Aussie re-editor-turned-producer whose recent outings on Glitterbox have made him an in-demand artist. He kicks things off by delivering a "multi-track" mix of Raw Silk boogie classic "Do It To The Music" that offers a superb mix of beefed-up synth-bass, echoing vocal snippets, stripped-down breakdowns and New York proto-house style production trickery. Over on side B he tightens up and funks up Barbara Mason's similarly synth-heavy electrofunk classic "Another Man" - a song about a woman losing her man to, you guessed it, another fella - before subtly tooling up and extending Shirley Lites' peerless "Heat You Up (Melt You Down)".

  1. Gold Wave (11:09)
Review: Dinky-Di is a modern disco ensemble conducted by Waq Takahashi with just a few key releases spread out across the past 15 years. Now Million Dollar Disco main man Al Kent has cherry picked one of the hottest jams from their oeuvre and given it a special rub down - the kind of treatment that warrants a single-sided 12" no less. In Al's hands, 2005 track "Gold Wave" becomes a sizzling party monster that romps along for more than 10 minutes. With scintillating peaks, heavyweight drum breakdowns and sumptuous musicianship throughout, this is how an epic disco bomb should sound in 2019.

  1. Music Colours (part 1, 2, Break, reprise) (6:49)
  2. Music Colours (part 3) (7:56)
Review: Cellophane was a cult project from Alessandro Novaga, an Italo producer who created tracks with a huge influence on the development of Chicago house. Besides his other production credits, Cellophane is an especially visionary venture that favours expansive, psychedelic suites of electronic disco over traditional song structures - just the kind of rare, oddball curiosity Best do such a good job of reissuing. While the A side is excellent in its own right, "Music Colours (Part 3)" on the B-side is the bomb here. Stomping, trippy and utterly addictive - from the Music Box to your record bag this kind of music just doesn't age.

  4. Hey George! (4:30)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Roberto Lodola has a rich legacy in Italian music, not least as a DJ and at the helm of early 90s outfit Rhythm Factory. Recognising the cult status of his first single, the 1986 12" Marimba Do Mar, Best Records have done the right thing in remastering this sun soaked classic with both original mixes and two previously unheard studio outtakes. The "Fusion Version" of the title track is a rich, sensual jam festooned with cascading pianos and tumbling percussion, while the "Vocal Version" brings a beautiful female vocal front and centre in the mix. "Feeling Of The Sun" is a delightfully spaced out lo-fi take on the original, and then "Hey George!" strips the music away and leaves you with a gorgeous beat track perfect for extended mixing potential.

Cat: MEL 17. Rel: 16 Aug 19
  1. Just Can't Stay Away (Stereo) (3:23)
  2. Just Can't Stay Away (mono) (3:24)
Review: Surprisingly, Don Blackman originally wrote and recorded "Just Can't Stay Away" to play as the recorded message on his girlfriend's answering machine. He later included it - tweaked and turned into a mid-80s style boogie banger reminiscent of his work during that decade - on his second and final album, 2002's CD-only "Listen". Here it finally gets a vinyl release thanks to reissue specialists Melodies International. If you're a fan of boogie, electrofunk and synth-soul it should be an essential purchase, not least because it's every bit as good as more celebrated Blackman productions made earlier in his career. There are "Stereo" and "Mono" mixes to enjoy, with the former naturally offering a more refined and intoxicating listening experience.

Review: Cannon & Mirrorball may not be the disco edit scene's answer to moustache-sporting 1970s/80s comedy heroes Cannon and Ball, but they certainly serve up tracks that will put a big goofy smile on your face. Their latest Disco Bits adventure begins via "Black Rhythm Rap", a chunky, hip-hop friendly rework of an obscure, late 1970s disco-rap bomb rich in funky guitar licks, cut-glass strings and party-starting MC flows. On the flip they get even cheekier, placing Loleatta Holloway's incredible "Love Sensation" vocal over a stomping, Blaxploitation-era disco-funk backing track and all manner of familiar soul and funk samples. Purists will no doubt sneer, but they really shouldn't: this is tastefully produced disco heat of the highest order.

Review: Some serious no-nonsense house grooves for all true-school DJs to cop, dug out from the annals of club music history. Things kick off good and proper with Joey Negro's insanely powerful "Dub Groove" mix of Lenny Fontana's "A Place Called Heaven". Negro's on the buttons once again with the classic, pumping "Rhodes Dub" of "You Make Me Whole" by Jay Denes and Ada Dyer. On the flip, Julian Sanza drops the squelchy boogie inflected "To Love" before the record ends on a serious bang with the dream team of Frankie Knuckles, Satoshi Tomiie and Andrea Mendez's "Bring Me Love (Eventual Dub)". This is as actual house as actual house can get - the real deal, crystalised in four evergreen gems pressed on one handy record.

Review: Sartorial and Moodena's Tropical Disco imprint has become a go-to label for discerning house and disco lovers around the world to devour. On their label's 12th edition, main man Sartorial kicks things off with the thumping, Latin-inflected summer scorcher "Fat Freddy's Party", co-head Moodena takes charge of the second track, bringing a softer sound palette full of '80s energy, blessed keys, signature feisty horns and nifty filter sweeps on "No More Sushi". "Track One" takes an upbeat Joe Cuba classic and slows it down to let us really chew into the warm, pumping groove. Trust us, one listen to this and you'll never want to go back to Georgia either! 3. The Salsoul Orchestra - "Ohh I Love It (Love Break)" (Moplen remix) (7:44)
Review: Plenty of the old classics can benefit from a little modern touch up, and that's the story on this latest offering from Salsoul, who once again open their vaults. Italian maestro Moplen is given free rein and turns his hand to Skyy - "Here's To You", firstly with a boogie driven rework that is all about an irresistibly knotted bassline. The dub version places even more focus on it, and on the flip The Salsoul Orchestra - "Ohh I Love It (Love Break)" gets teased out to perfection. The classic vocal is left in place while the sensuous bass, gliding hits and rousing strings will make their way deep into your affections.

  1. Mizik Bel (5:13)
  2. Mizik Bel (Africaine 808 remix) (8:17)
Review: A while back, Africaine 808's DJ Nomad contacted Favorite Recordings' chief Pascal Rioux about a killer track he'd been given some years back - an obscure, previously CD-R only fusion of modern Gwo-ka and Zouk by Esnard Boisdur entitled "Mizik Bel". Rioux was excited by what he heard and agreed that the track should come out on vinyl, accompanied by a fresh rework by Nomad and Dirk Leyers as Africaine 808. Boisdur's original version (side A) is rhythmically dense but also cheery and life affirming, with celebratory chorus vocals and 80s zouk style synth lines subtly rising above a busy, all-action groove. Arguably even better is the sub-heavy Africaine 808 mix, which brilliantly re-imagines the track as a tasty chunk of tropical house/disco-zouk fusion.

Review: Fledgling label Daje Funk is sure to turn heads with their second sizzling offering of edits, with Rome's Massimo Berardi and Mexico's The Funk District both stepping up to the buttons. Truckin' Company's "Got The Feeling" is a loopy and rolling funk gem that keeps the energy up as strings soar to the skies and a squelchy bassline keeps you locked. The Funk District takes care of the flip with a top tweak of Izk Eyes's "Ton Of Groove", which is an appropriate title: big brass sections to shake your booty, a buttery male vocal and busy guitar licks all drive it forward through big breaks and killer drops.

Review: More good value goodness from the Editorial label, one of the few re-edit focused outfits that manage to retain a high level of consistency. The Funk District kicks things off with a fine re-arrangement of an organ and electric piano-focused chunk of sweaty dancefloor soul ("An Evening With El Diablo"), before Matt Hughes gets busy with some elastic slap bass on flash-fried disco-funk revision "Get Down". Elsewhere, Label regulars Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee dip the tempo on the slow and seductive "Slippin", the Owl stomps his way through the P-funk style heaviness of "Funky Feelin" and Cody Currie offers up a hazy sample-house cut rich in jazzy flourishes and warm electric piano chords.

Jaunty, free-footed, laced with an intoxicating eastern riff and a springy 80s bassline, it has hips slinking from 0-60 in less than seconds. There are lots of top-notch edits to enjoy on the Brazilian producer's first Razor-N-Tape outing, from the sax-powered, solo smothered disco-funk cheeriness of "C'est La Douceur", to the low-slung South American disco grunt of "Fragil" and the jazz-funk tinged carnival goodness of superb closing cut "Besos Libres". Like its predecessor, the series' latest volume boasts cuts from highlife legends Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas. The former's punchy, breezy and trumpet-laden highlife-jazz cut "Peace On Earth" can be found on side A, alongside a dreamy Monsieur Scott version that drags the track further towards leisurely jazz-house territory. The Pat Thomas track showcased on side B is "We Are Coming Home", a righteous highlife/funk fusion effort rich in dense percussion and eyes-closed rock guitar solos. The accompanying 2 Paris Septembre Re-Edit brilliantly re-invents it as a bustling broken beat affair laden in shimmering synths and squelchy electronic bass.

  3. Youkounkoun - "Cosmic Yoyo" (5:55)
  4. Asa Moto - "When The Funk Is On" (4:50)
Review: If you're in the mood for some cosmic grooves, wayward disco and pagan psychedelia, Multi-Culti's Cult Edits series is always worth checking. The imprint's latest offering is packed to the rafters with mind-altering goodness. Inigo Voltier sets the tone with "Ti Amo", a Fairlight-powered bounce through post-Italo oddball electro territory with added mix-80s power-pop guitars, before Angelina Amor reworks a sludgy slab of European industrial/new wave fusion. Youkounkoun's throbbing "Cosmic Yoyo" sounds like post-apocalyptic Italo-disco after a fist full of downers, while Asa Moto's "When The Funk Is On" is a funky but undeniably weird electro-industrial cut rich in delay-laden vocal snippets and metallic percussion hits.

Monsieur Business
Cat: PEPITE 06. Rel: 09 Sep 19
  1. Monsieur Business (3:04)
  2. Monsieur Business (Aroop Roy rework) (4:17)
Review: In 1976, French band Edition Speciale released their debut album, "Allee Des Tilleuls". While much of the album saw them explore progressive rock and jazz-rock territory, it did contain one suitably groovy and life-affirming trip into jazz-funk territory, surprise LP standout "Mr Business". Here that cut gets a single release for the very first time courtesy of the dusty-fingered diggers at Pepite. You'll find the little-known band's languid, Clavinet and synthesizer-heavy original version on side A, with Aroop Roy's tidy contemporary rework on the B. Aroop sticks a rocket up the track's bottom end, underpinning the original song with peak-time-ready drums while wisely emphasizing his own killer bassline and catchy vocals.

South Asian Edits
South Asian Edits (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SPICE 1. Rel: 05 Aug 19
  1. Mast Qalandar (Raheel Khan edit) (6:36)
  2. Sansani (Adesi edit) (5:29)
  3. Nah Nah Nah (Adesi edit) (3:33)
  4. Kammata (Adesi edit) (4:36)
  5. Kuchi Kuchi (Adesi edit) (4:51)
Review: Exploring the sounds emanating from South Asia, Masaala is a new label with a fresh outlook. The first release features Manchester-based producers Raheel Khan and Adesi turning in some powerful edits that will appeal to anyone seeking invigorating sounds from further afield. Khan's twist on "Mast Qalandar" sounds like a striking version of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's "Mustt Mustt". Adesi offers up the lions share of the edits though, channeling South Asian sounds through grooves ranging from the fierce disco stomp of "Sansani" to the low slung funk groove of "Nah Nah Nah". "Kammata" has a more dense rhythmic complexity at its heart, and "Kuchi Kuchi" collides traditional sounds with contemporary broken beat to brilliant effect.

Don't You Want My Love: Remixes
Cat: GLITS 011R. Rel: 06 Sep 19
  1. Don't You Want My Love (Joe Claussell 1986 Reel To Reel edit) (8:54)
  2. Don't You Want My Love (Cratebug More Love remix) (9:06)
Review: Defected's fabulous Glitterbox off-shoot has thankfully repressed these two fist pumping disco remixes of Debbie Jacobs' classic "Don't You Want My Love". Stepping up on the a-side is the master of the mix, EQer extraordinaire and founder of the legendary Body & Soul party, Joe Claussell. His remix is perfect for said New York party with its loose percussion, big string stabs and relentless disco drums. Cratebug strips things back to a more functional and contemporary club track that builds in layers, with subtle filters bringing the tension until finally he lets the groove drop, no doubt to devastating scenes on the dance floor.

  1. Express Lane (6:35)
  2. Libyan Sun (5:20)
  3. Don't Oho (6:11)
  4. Move Your Body (6:26)
Review: Since 2012, Munich duo COEO has served up a swathe of sample heavy, disco influenced house EPs for such labels as Let's Play House, Toy Tonics, Lagaffe Tales and Razor-N-Tape Reserve. Here they pop up on Razor-N-Tape's main edit label with something different: a quartet of traditional scalpel works from their personal stash. First up is the elastic, horn heavy disco-funk of "Express Lane", which is quickly followed by the skewed Arabic boogie-funk brilliance of "Libyan Sun". Over on side B, "Don't Oho" is a breezy revision of a sun-kissed Afro-disco workout that sounds like it would be capable of causing a commotion in the club, while "Move Your Body" makes merry with a warm, rich and intoxicating early '80s boogie-soul jam of unknown origin.

Under Cover Lover
Cat: KALITA 12010. Rel: 06 Sep 19
  1. Under Cover Lover (4:58)
  2. Under Cover Lover (instrumental) (4:59)
Review: Kalita Records has thus far proved adept at sniffing out obscure, overlooked classics and reissuing them. Their latest "flip" is as rare, little known and hard-to-find as they come: a one-shot 1985 Caribbean boogie cut from Bahamian musicians Stirling March (now a minister and gospel singer) and bassist Rocky Rolle. "Under Cover Lover" is bright, breezy and sun-kissed, with jaunty synthesizer lead lines and hammered-out piano parts dancing above a tasty groove that fully showcases Rolle's boogie bass skills. Stirling March's lead vocal is superb too, with the Bahamian slickly delivering the loved-up lyrics with aplomb. The flipside "Instrumental" version is typical of New York style boogie dubs of the period, with more attention on the drums, bassline and ricocheting vocal snippets.

  12. Brian Tatcher - "Hot Love" (instrumental dub version) (6:48)
  13. Preludio - "Mysterious Nights" (4:46)
Review: Ilan Pdahtzur is as obsessive a record digger as any of his more visible peers. His particular niche is early to mid-eighties club music, and now he gets a platform to show off his skills thanks to the Spacetalk label. "Night City Life" is about music to match that exact setting - nocturnal urban metropolises with glowing neon lights shimmering in the darkness. There's a lot to love across four sides of vinyl here, from Italo disco to steamy boogie cuts and iridescent synth jams. It will make you nostalgic for a time and place you've never experienced (at least not as perfectly as this) and no doubt get plenty of dance floors on their feet.

Cat: BELP 006. Rel: 11 Sep 19
  1. Vieni Con Me (8:05)
  2. 20 Secoli Di Favole (7:36)
Review: The sneaky scalpel fiends behind the Belpaese Edits imprint are back with more inspired reworks of obscure, little known and overlooked European - and mostly Italian - gems from the 1970s and '80s. First up is "Vieni Con Mi", a wonderfully overblown chunk of loose-limbed jazz-rock/disco-soul fusion blessed with breathy female vocals, mazy flutes, wah-wah guitars, heavy bass and drumming so wild it may well be capable of raising cadavers from their graves. Flipside "20 Secoli Di Favole" is similarly minded, if a little closer to Baldelli "cosmic rock" territory - all ragged rock riffs, manic female vocals, groovy bass and intergalactic analogue synthesizer lines.

  2. Mix & Fairbanks - "Shergar's Revenge" (5:58)
  3. Shee - "Me, You, Us" (6:53)
  4. Purple Ice - "Adeus" (7:02)
Review: According to the hype sheet we have to hand, the "Home Turf EP" is House of Disco's first multi-artist extravaganza for two years. There's plenty to get the juices flowing throughout, from the bounding bounciness of LPM's rap-sampling disco-house cut "Get With It", to the impeccably warm and sun-kissed jazz-house vibes of Purple Ice's "Adeus". In between you'll find the rolling, synth-heavy warmth of Mix & Fairbanks' deliciously loved-up "Shergar's Revenge" and "Me, You, Us" by Shee, a chunky sample-house number full of swirling strings, looped guitar riffs, hazy chords and righteous spoken word samples.

Let's Funk Tonight (Faze Action mix)
Cat: BST X063. Rel: 12 Aug 19
  1. Let's Funk Tonight (Full extended version) (9:56)
  2. Let's Funk Tonight (Faze Action dub) (5:43)
Review: Blue Feather were a truly blue-eyed funk outfit from the Netherlands who had a prolific run in the 80s with two albums and a string of club singles to their name. "Let's Funk Tonight" was surely one of their bigger hits, and it sounds resplendent with a fresh master and the full extended version spread out across the A side here. Offering something new for the modern market, Best call upon Faze Action to flesh out this reissue with a killer dub of the track that treads softly but funks deep, just like a good dub should.
