The Tropical EP
The Tropical EP (double 7" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: AOS 010. Rel: 30 Jun 21
Aceedo Domingo - "Corre Riba" (4:25)
Those Guys From Athens - "Na Bola" (3:45)
DJ Laurel - "Peanut Man" (5:08)
Monsieur Van Pratt - "Lose Your Mind" (4:24)
Review: As the title suggests, there's an undeniably humid, sun-kissed and tropical feel to Act of Sedition's latest double-dose of seven-inch re-edits. Accedo Domingo lives up to his name by adding squelchy TB-303 lines and relaxed house beats to a stirring Cape Verde dancefloor jam on "Corre Riba", before Those Guys From Athens deliver a chunky, house-style revision of a turn-of-the-80s MPB classic ("No Bola"). Over on the second "45", DJ Laurel tools up an undeniably funky disco number (the stellar "Peanut Man") before Monsieur Von Pratt makes an already heavy disco-funk number even weightier ("Lose Your Mind").

The Blackbyrds - "Rock Creek Park" (Lego edit) (4:38)
Michael Jackson - "PYT" (Bully Boy Refix) (4:40)
Review: Another double dose of seven-inch action from the Art of Sedition crew, who once again offer up a quartet of floor-focused re-edits stretched across two dinky slabs of wax. Mighty Mouse's punchy instrumental dub of Don Ray's "Got To Have Nothing" also hits the spot. On the second disc, Lego Edit flexes his muscles with a locked in, house style take of the bass-heavy classic "Rock Creek Park", before Bully Boy does his best Reflex impression on what sounds like a ground-up stems revision of MJ classic "PYT".

Attack The Dancefloor Volume Sixteen
Akabu - "Ride The Storm" (feat Linda Clifford - Saison remix) (7:21)
The Love Symphony Orchestra - "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" (Dr Packer remix) (7:31)
Joey Negro Presents The Sunburst Band - "Everyday" (JN Disco Re-Bump remix) (7:28)
Art Of Tones - "Flower Child" (feat Anduze) (7:01)
Review: Like its numerous predecessors, 16th edition of Z Records' long running "Attack The Dancefloor" series is packed to the rafters with tried and tested dancefloor treats, most of which have never appeared on vinyl before. First up, Saison tackles Akabu's 2001 classic "Ride The Storm", turning it into a deep, bouncy and rubbery chunk of lilting, string-drenched house goodness, before Dr Packer delivers a subtly tooled-up take on The Love Symphony Orchestra's grandiose and sexually-charged 1978 disco classic "Let Me Be Your Fantasy". Label head honcho Joey Negro provides a superb deep disco rework of one of his own productions, the Sunburst Band's 2004 summer sing-along "Everyday", while Art of Tones' "Flower Child" is a flash-fried, disco-funk romp laden with superb lead vocals from Anduze.

Cosmic Cherry - "Malibu" (5:20)

Review: Alzaya is a boutique label from Milan that has put out a select few EPs over the last three years from names such as Paula Tape. Now it kicks off a new Various Artist series with five quality tunes. Akasha System's 'Midnight Tide' is a nice neon-lit future tech cut with bubbling, soft focus melodies. Tape Hiss offers the old school piano laced joy of 'Scirocco' and Manuel Darquart slips into deep cosmic house lushness with 'Low Tide.' The mellifluous melodies keep on coming with Cosmic Cherry and Nicodemo who offer a pair of sleek and stylish sounds.

Bumpin' Soul EP

Alkalino - "Body & Soul" (6:35)
Love Drop - "Pull Up" (7:23)
Terrence Pearce - "Ushukela" (5:58)
Alex Zuiev - "Afro Magic" (6:31)
Review: There's no complex concept behind the latest four-track EP from the reliable Whiskey Disco camp, just a quartet of killer re-edits crying out for peak-time plays. Highlights wise, we're particularly enjoying the hard-spun Afro-disco grooves and well-placed dub delays of Alex Zuiev's "Afro Magic", though Alkalino's quirky opener - a thrillingly dubbed-out take on a tongue-in-cheek, left-of-centre disco treat - is also superb. Elsewhere, Love Drop sticks heavy new house beats underneath a stone cold classic (listen to the clips and you'll be able to identify the source material in seconds), while Terrence Pearce crafts a space-disco epic out of undulating Afro-disco grooves, bleeping synth melodies and some seriously cosmic effects.

Sanctify (4:03)
Sanctify (T Groove Smooth mix) (4:14)
Review: Love Touch Records has a devilishly simple game plan: to release brand-new revivalist boogie, electrofunk and synth-powered soul songs on seven-inch singles. Here, the label's very first release from late 2019- which, incredibly, sold out simply through social media hype - finally gets a wider release. It's well worth checking, because it's a terrific slab of smooth, spacey, talk box-sporting slab of synth-soul from vocalist Amalia, label regulars The Precious Lo's and modern boogie wizard Brian Ellis, who provides a killer synth solo rich in wavy, LFO-trigger action. Over on the flip T-Groove provides a "Smooth Mix" - a more thickset take built around warm chords and one of the most squelchy synthesizer basslines we've ever hard.

Frankie Knuckles Edits: Disco Queen #3819
Steve Arrington - "Dancin' In The Key Of Life" (Frankie Knuckles edit) (9:07)
The Trammps - "Disco Party" (Frankie Knuckles edit) (7:42)
Review: Disco Queen just keep on pumping out the good stuff with two more divine edits from house music's spiritual and dearly missed father Frankie Knuckles. Two sides for two different peaks of the nights; Steve Arrington's "Dancin' In The Key Of Life" is that classic 11pm feel good warm up that's layered with clever momentum while The Trammps' "Disco Party" lives up to its name with incredible energy and soul and a dynamic drop into the original midway. Rest in peace Frankie.

Two Thou - "Group Technology" (with Alberto Collodel)
Autre - "Cosmic Roots"
Two Thou - "SOL"
Autre - "Futura"
Review: The Fields & Forest label has so far aligned itself with the stellar Russian label Udacha, featuring Dices, A5 and Cuisine Dub, but things are taking a turn into new territory with the inclusion of Autre and Two Thou with two tracks a piece on this new slab of wax. Two Thou's "Group Technology" is a snappily shaped, 80s influenced groover with some interesting timbres falling into a dynamic groove, while "SOL" shows another side to the artist with a snaking slice of jazz funk infused experimental techno. Autre's "Cosmic Roots" is a more esoteric, new age gilded slice of ambient house while "Futura" ramps up the saucy synths for a silk-tongued charmer of a warm-up jam.

Dominic Balchin - "Nothing Is The Same" (6:57)
Da Lukas - "Get Disco Vibes" (6:36)
Moodena - "Who Got The Keys?" (5:42)
Toby O'Connor - "Low & Slow" (4:53)
Review: Tropical Disco Records rolls out more of their sun kissed goodness on an impressive 21st volume of their self-titled series. As always there is a devious selection of disco dons taking charge of the course cuts, with Dominic Balchin getting the party started with big trumpet stabs and soul train grooves. Da Lukas slows things down and goes for a more deep, swinging cut with his 'Get Disco Vibes' and then scene veteran Moodena's 'Who Got The Keys?' gets more jazzy, with some fantastic keys and funky bass. Toby O'Connor closes out with a steamy and romantic slow jam, and in doing so rounds out an EP packed with the sort of positive vibes we all need right now.

Beard In Dust - "At The Dawn"
Tales Of Voodoo - "Sharky"
Esen Gunduz - "Deve Gucu"
Review: When it comes to exotic, off-kilter edits, you'll struggle to find a stronger series than Jonny Rock's Disco Hamam. This fifth volume is every bit as essential as its predecessors. Beards In Dust claims the A-side with "At The Dawn", a tidy revision of a druggy and "chuggy" version of a blue-eyed psychedelic funk-rock roller that comes complete with some serious sing-along sections. The heady world of Turkish music - a constant source of inspiration at the Disco Hamam HQ - comes to the fore on the B-side. Tales Of Voodoo's "Sharky" is a deliciously percussive, dancefloor-friendly fusion of Middle Eastern exoticism, funk-rock guitars and heavy disco percussion, while Esen Gunduz's "Deve Gucu" is an even sweatier, Italo Disco-era stomper that sounds like something you'd have heard in Istanbul clubs circa 1985.

Teddy Pendergrass - "I Don't Love You Anymore" (A Tom Moulton mix) (8:46)
Lou Rawls - "See You When I Git There" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:39)
Review: During the latter stages of the "Philly Soul" era, New York remixer Tom Moulton delivered a string of inspired, DJ friendly reworks for the Philadelphia International label. For proof, check this fine selection of classic Moulton mixes for the storied imprint. Check first his version of Archie Bell and the Drells' "Where Will You Go When The Party's Over", which he brilliantly teases out and increases in intensity over nine spellbinding minutes. The funkier flex of People's Choice's "Jam, Jam, Jam (All Night Long)" is a sweaty, low-down treat, while the Teddy Pendergrass rework is a soaring disco classic in the Philly Soul style. Best of all, though, is the string-drenched disco celebration that is his mix of Lou Rawls' "See You When I Git There".

Boryn - "Byles Ze Mna"
Expo 2000 - "Fantazja"
Review: The Very Polish Cut-Outs Sampler series continues to represent the party-focused arm of one of the most switched-on labels in Polish house music. On the tenth volume of the edit series we get no less than seven upfront joint to sink our teeth into, as Justyna S dices up dusty drums and funky guitar licks for the seriously infectious 'Oka Za Oko' and Zenit brings some big-room disco sass to bear on 'Dzisiaj Jutro'. The flip side sidles into deeper territory with the low-slung delights of Niko's smoky version of 'Na Jezykach' by Ka-ya-h. By the time we reach the final track - EXPO 2000's dreamy downtempo joint 'Fantazja', the pitch has slid down even lower and we're positively kicking back in the backroom with distinctive styles unique to this most esteemed of labels.

Alexny - "Not Bad" (5:36)
Review: The Moiss Music label seems to like to drop their EPs two at a time. They did it in February and they're doing it again in May. This eighth outing collects four more lively disco cuts, each with their own subtle influences. Berobreo's 'White Rabbit' for instance has funky undertones with loopy guitar riffs and nice breaks. The Magic Track's 'Jamming With Mom' meanwhile is more sensuous and deep, with late-night synth work and seductive vocals. Oldchap's 'I Want To Show You' has an expressive soul vocal with more low-slung grooves and Alexny's 'Not Bad' then gets quick, clipped and loopy for its lip-pouting disco thrills.

Review: Cult Edits are specialists in pushing a certain kind of heater, working in a mode landing something between edit and original. Six producers - Mario Bianco, Tomoo Hata, Roe Deers, Radial Gaze, A Tweed and Oltrefuturo - lay down a blend of sampledelic, ecstatic, multi-tempo'd tribal moods. Bits & Pieces - "Don't Stop The Music"
The Staple Singers - "Slippery People"
Eric's Friends - "Discocaine"
Brian Briggs - "AEO" (parts 1 & 2)
Review: Having released quality disco music since 2006, the Balerica imprint continues to dig deep to give its listeners more unearthed jams on Balearica 8. Bits & Pieces' "Don't Stop The music" opens with fat, synthesisers acting as the basis for this funk-laden freakout. "Slippery People" by The Staple Singers moves you with sharp pads, a shoulder-twitching beat and soulful vocal licks. Eric's Friends' "Discocaine" gives us a more traditional disco flavour, borrowing the lead line from Muddy Water's "Smoke on The Water" and laying it on top of a moving beat. Brian Briggs' "AEO" (parts 1 & 2) closes the record with an ocean-dipped jam, soaked in oriental flavour and served in an African wonderland. Highly recommended.

Be Strong
My Life (Sir Stephen remix)
Review: If you're a keen follower of 100% Silk you may have already heard the chunky, electro flavoured house of "My Life" on last years Silkmix Volume 1. It's a dope track that works around a chugging bottom end and the titular vocal hook from Trevon to create a steamy floor-smasher. "Be Strong" is a touch lighter in its demeanour, employing some thoroughly European bleeps and bongos in the classic house template. Sir Stephen meanwhile feeds a driving, dubby undercarriage and melodramatic piano chords into his remix of "My Life" with strong results.

6000 Ft (5:40)
Review: Simon 'Bonobo' Green launches his own label Outlier, operating under the umbrella of Ninja Tune, the label - along with Tru Thoughts - that he's been most closely associated with. To kick things off, he's cooked up something suitably sizable with pal Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Lead cut 'Heartbreak' is an absolute beast and sounds like a future anthem in the making. Supposedly intended as a tribute to NYC disco but arguably nothing of the sort, it sees the pair pepper a bustling, bass-heavy, rave-style breakbeat groove with organ stabs, sparkling synth sounds and choice vocal snippets from Classic Action classic 'Weekend'. They explore far deeper, drowsier territory on the atmospheric, melody-driven flipside, '6000 Ft', once again opting to employ waves of colourful electronics and chunky low-end sounds.

Borrowed Identity & Mechanical Soul Brother - "Love For The Gang"
Borrowed Identity - "Boogie Down"
Simba - "Three Kays"
Tanzlife - "I Can't Help Myself"
Review: The Chicago based Stripped & Chewed label release their fifth EP with tracks from Borrowed Identity and Mechanical Soul Brother, as well as Simba and Tanzlife. Borrowed Identity and Mechanical Soul Brother's woozy synth lines of "Love For The Gang" glides through filtered hats, rhythmic percussion and seemingly a rocking house party, while Borrowed Identity, this time on his own produces "Boogie Down", a track where drooling acid smothers a stomping beat and air light chords. Simba supplies some late night city funk with "Three Kays", a perfect soundtrack for the Vegas strip, while Tanzlife keeps things balearic with a disco tinged and deep house gem with added bass licks and James Brown "urgh" vocal snippets.

Song For Ehi (Bosq Disco dub) (7:03)
Review: You'd expect a collaboration between Columbia-based fusionist Bosq, Ibibio Sound System's horn section and vocalist Kaleta to be pretty darn good, and 'Song For Ehi' most certainly is. Inspired by a combination of classic Edo-funk, Afro-disco and reggae disco, the A-side original version delivers a near perfect mix of timbales-sporting dub disco grooves, reverb-laden lead vocals, Afro-funk guitar licks, Afrobeat-esque organ licks and punchy horns. The track's inherent dubbiness is further explored on the flipside revision, which adds extra layers of percussion and the kind of breathless dancefloor weight that marks out the greatest dub disco workouts. In a word: essential!

New Religion (original)
New Religion (Pete Herbert dub)
New Religion (Marcus Marr mix)
Review: 2010 has been good to Venetian producer Bottin with releases on Eskimo, Bear Funk, Gomma and Perseo to complement remixes for the likes of Sally Shapiro, Telonius and Ali Love as well as a mix CD for Nang Records. It's the latter who dig into the Bottin archives (nee hard drives) and release this, the first fruits of an old collaborative project with Swiss vocalist Joy Frempong under the name Tinpong. "New Religion" is a skippy 140 BPM cover of the early 80s Duran Duran standard which improves on the original by the simple virtue of Frempong's breathy vocal delivery which is preferable to Simon Le Bon's. Brixtonite Marcus Marr rips apart the original and reassembles the parts as a truly impressive late night disco number, replete with a wonderfully broad sounding bassline. Not to be outdone, L.S.B. don and general UK disco standard Pete Herbert steps up with a delightful dub version that sets a dancefloor pace and leaves the most lasting effect.

Diggin' Side
Review: The good ship Nang navigates back towards the prosperous musical archives snappily known as Tinpong for a second round of musical excellence from Venetian Bottin and Swiss vocalist Joy Frempong. Last seen giving a Duran Duran classic a high BPM makeover, the Jabberwock release is the first original material culled from the duo's studio antics recorded over a three year period from 2003 onwards. The title track itself is a low slung 80s leaning vocal disco slinkathon very much in the vein of Tom Tom Club, and comes accompanied by a near unrecognisable remix from Rudy's Midnight Machine (aka Robin Faze Action) which discards with the niceties for a full on jackin' dancefloor excursion. Elsewhere tracks such as "Cut Up" and "Diggin' Side" hint at a real versatility to be found in the remainder of the Tinpong archives.

Avanti - "Bright Mezcal" (4:35)
Review: If you're going to launch a new re-edit series, it's probably wise to get some big hitters on board. That's certainly what the people behind Theme From Kaffe have done for their debut offering. Italian heavyweights Bottin lead the way with "Ora La So", a lo-slung, Clavinet-heavy chunk of dirty Balearica blessed with sleazy, whispered vocals. Sleazy McQueen continues the eccentric theme with the chugging reggae-disco bounce of "Back To Hell", before Albion ups the tempo on the dusty, vocoder-laden wonky disco chug of "Experimento". An excellent EP concludes with the sprawling soundtrack disco of Ivory Boy's "Mare" and "Bright Mezcal" by Avanti, a curiously bumpin chunk of dub disco weirdness blessed with alien synths and a brilliantly rubbery bassline.

February alone has at least three new 45rpms dropping and this might be the best: Homegrown Syndrome were a band that ended up in LA but giggled all round Memphis. Some members had played with an earlier band but they all came good on these previously unleashed tunes that have been found in the attic of Jerry Jones. 'Got The Love' is a chunky funky stepper with swirling synths and disco energy. 'Party Vibes' then takes off once more on hip swig claps, big arching chords and strident drums.

They often played together and some of the sessions gave rise to the two hard to find tracks offered up here. 'Dreamworld Fantasie' is a first release of an unissued 1977 disco and soul gem that muses on how we'd all like our lives to be - and right now such escapist vibes have never been more in need. Review: As the record's rather matter-or-fact titles makes clear, this four-tracker from Golden Soul Records gathers together some of the best remixes they've released digitally on vinyl for the very first time. First up, label founder James Rod delivers a wonderfully dark, sleazy and druggy disco-chug revision of Javier Busto's 'Robot in Mars', before Aleito opts for a more pulsating nu-disco sound on his melodic and all-action rework of From Beyond's 'Body Resonance'. Arguably even better is Azaria's foreboding, percussive and acid-flecked revision of Tempo Del Maldad's 'Disco Gold', while Jarle B's re-make of Aleito's 'Always Here' is an organ-laden disco-tech treat.

Review: In recent times, Gomma Dance Tracks has been very good at releasing tracks that nestle in the grey area between disco-punk, nu-disco, post-punk industrial and off-kilter Balearica. This collaboration between Capablanca is a great example. "Acido" is spooky and trippy, yes, with a raw, punk funk bassline. But it's also surprisingly sweet and melodic, perhaps even rush-inducing. "Tropanado", on the other hand, is delightfully dubbed out - like the Idjuts jamming with Fist of Facts, or Todd Terje producing A Certain Ratio. A formidable package is rounded off by Name In Lights' acid-flecked deep house/nu-disco rework of "Acido". It's good, but lacks the raw oddness of the excellent original.

Masaaki Ohmura - "A Touch Of Temptation" (4:56)
Review: The above board Balearica stable come through with their 20th episode of the series and drop four 'new' artist additions on their ever-impressive and ever-growing catalogue. The term 'balearic' should be obvious by now, so we're not talking genres here but simply aesthetic and mood. "Il Veliero" by The Chaplin Band is an Italian 70's gem with some seriously funky vocal work, while The Double Brother's "Flying Cloud" is slower, moodier but irresistibly seductive. On the flip, Boule Noire drop the boogy-tastic and ultra-deep "Aimer D'Amour", and "A Touch Of Temptation" by Masaaki Ohmura ties things off in a meditative lo-fi mood thanks to its starry synths and lazy beats. Quality as per usual.

Review: Oh my - it's number 35 in the RDY edits series, and that means an instant purchase, peeps! These never stick around for very long, and especially when they're as bad-ass as this latest one. So, quick recap, just in case you weren't aware, this series aims to recollect of all legend Ron Hardy's edits; these are the tunes that made house music famous at the infamous Musik Box in Chicago. Italian disco sensations Chaplin Band feature with a subtle edit of "Il Veliero", a melancholic yet charging disco oddity, and the flip quickly heads down more electronic territories with a touch-up of "She Don't Knw I Am Alive" by Willie Colon. Tony Cook & The Party People's "On The Floor" is given a good makeover with that solid, 4/4 beat that contains the dubbiest of drums around. Ya can't miss this...

Review: Hole In The Sky is an independent record label based in Australia that is dedicated to releasing material that pushes the boundaries of popular music. Digging reggae, soul, rock, jazz, disco and everything psychedelic, each and every release stands alone as a unique transmission from the inner soul of the label. On this, the first release from the label, producer/drummer Fred Cherry drops some low slung discoid dub on "Busride To The Zoo" with live instruments, samplers and analogue reel to reel tape machines all colliding to create a psychedelic, percussive work-out sounding like The Stooges crossed with Liquid Liquid!

Move Groove (Warehouse mix)
Move Groove (Dr Dunks remix)
Move Groove (Vermin's Blackout remix)
Review: Chicken Lips main man Dean Meredith presents the first fruits of his new Rhythm Odyssey project and if you like bottom heavy throwback flexors that sound like they're lifted straight from a late eighties warehouse party in Chicago, then you want to be checking this. Meredith's own Warehouse Mix of "Move Groove" hogs the A Side, gradually teasing out an energetic piano melody that hugs the heavy analogue bass tightly, whilst a thumping jack groove aided by subtle flecks of cowbell and drum machine fills provides the requisite sweat inducing thrust. This is backed with a remix from Dr Dunks that slows the pace, ramps up the bass frequency and adds a delightfully reverberant beat to proceedings for a hypnotically narcotic version which reacquaints the piano melody with the depths of the mix before being thrust into your attention on a brilliant drop. Newcomer Vermin opts for a Model 500 meets Vibert perma retro electro reimagination that goes overboard on the 808 kicks and acid squiggles.

The Gospelaires Of Dayton, O - "God Helps Those Who Help Themselves" (JC edits & Overdubs instrumental) (6:49)
Review: While it initially started as a compilation and DJ mix series, Joe Claussell's gospel-focused Praise project has now spawned a string of EPs featuring rare tracks and new 'edits and overdubs' reworks by the Sacred Rhythm founder. The latest instalment begins with a wickedly percussive, predictably righteous live recording of a gospel slammer by Bishop Jeff Banks and the Revival Temple Mass Choir, which Claussell then turns into a 14-minute epic. He builds from a sparse, twinkling, piano-heavy start, before introducing weighty house drums and wild organ solos as the track progresses. Over on the flip it's all about 'God Helps Those Who Help Themselves', a turn-of-the-80s gospel disco slammer which Claussell successfully extends (the 'Edits and Overdubs Main' mix) and then dubs out (the accompanying instrumental).

Review: No one works a mixing board quite like Joe Clasusell, and his latest project is another high water mark in a career full of them: his Claussell Edits & Overdubs version of Crowns of Glory's 'Lord Look at Your People' is getting put out on a series of 12"s, with this third one being another winner. Review: REPRESS ALERT: Little do people know that Coober Pedy is an opal rich town buried deep within the red and arid outback of South Australia. Lewie Day (aka Tornado Wallace) and Tom Moore may be from Melbourne, but the duo make up the Coober Pedy University Band, coining the term "Krautback" to describe this Moon Plain EP. Drawing upon italo synths and mid-tempo Balearica as inspiration, the first release comes in 12" form via Soft Rocks' Kinfolk label. The reverb washed Australian crooner Chet Faker appears on the title track "Moon Plain" alongside heavy struck piano chords, while "Sentenced Beyond The Seas" is a flow of groggy atmospheres and downtempo beats. "Oblong" is the the EPs stand out italo track with short bass arpeggios a highlight, while Soft Rocks "Acperience" mix of "Moon Plain" takes on an acidic and space western theme.

Review: Danish-German production duo Cool Million (Frank Ryle, Robert 'Rob' Hardt) are specialists in nu-disco and neo-boogie. Until late, they've flaunted this expertise via their renditions of old funk standouts, be that from the likes of Donald Byrd or James Brown. Here, however, the pair team up with Tomas Thordarson for a front-and-centre G-funker of the squeeziest quality, 'My Life', whose lyrics match its form via mentions of 'cutting like a knife' rhymed, of course, with 'paradise'. The instrumental dub is just as glassy and arid, its standout element being the huge, zesty, quivering chords marking out the phrase transitions.

Review: Given that Hard Fist's first two releases hit home hard, hopes are naturally high for the imprint's third 12". Whereas releases one and two were solo EPs, Princes of Abzu is something of an all-star affair. Label founders Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Rai join forces for the excellent, Acid Arab-esque opener "Place Du Pont", while Jakam's superb "Tribes" brilliantly joins the dots between Afro-house, Middle Eastern exotica and, most thrillingly of all, spiritual jazz. Elsewhere, Shadi Khries' "Semsemeh" is a dark and atmospheric chunk of psychedelic acid-jack and Timothy Clerkin's fuzzy and aggressive "Akama" is a mid-altering analogue chugger.

Scandi-disco don Ray Man opens up with typically lush cosmic melodies and loose-limed nu-disco beats with more than a hint of funk. Tigerbalm then heads into a tropical oasis with 'Cosmic Union' (feat Joy Tyson) which has Afro rhythms and steamy vocals bringing the heat. Ruf Dug shows his multi-genre chops again with 'Vape Quarter Rhythm' which is part proto-house cut and part dreamy Italo bliss out with rave whistles and hands-in-the-air chords. Ibiza's Tuccillo closes out with one of his signature Balearic gems in 'Siroco', which is as breezy and carefree as cocktails by the sea at sundown.

Review: Multi Culti's Cult Edits series returns to bring you some saucy, sizzling surrealism from the outer reaches of the groove. Nicola Cruz is up first with the humid beatdown and transcendental acid undertones of "Cartomante". Asa Moto keeps things clammy but driving with the African pulse of "Safari Glove" while Balam takes things in a more wigged-out synthwave direction on "Carnaval Acido". Tyu's "Negra" turns the heat up higher with a massive low end throb and plenty of chuggy pressure for ultimate dancefloor escapism. Akimbo completes the package with the feverish carnival atmosphere of "Batucada", which of course piles on Latin drums and plenty more besides.

Review: Z Records' compilation style "Attack The Dancefloor" EPs rarely fail to deliver, with big cheese Dave Lee (AKA Joey Negro) collecting together floor-friendly treats with the label's vast catalogue. There's plenty to set the pulse racing on this 12th volume, starting with Negro's organ-heavy revision of Bobby D'Ambrosio and Michelle Weeks' classic '90s house cover of Inner Life disco classic "Moment of My Life". Purist disco thrills are provided by Lee's tidy Doug Willis re-edit of Carlos Romanos' boogie-era disco-funk bumper "121", as well as his vintage cover of MFSB classic "K-Jee". Arguably best of all, though, is Lee's sparkling, synth-heavy "Future Boogie" mix of The APX's revivalist electrofunk jam, "Lose Yourself To The Groove".

Review: Throughout the 1960s and'70s, producer and A&R man Carl Davis was one of the pivotal figures on the Chicago soul scene. Yet despite producing hundreds of records, he only ever released a few under his own name, the highlight of which was undoubtedly 1976's "Windy City Theme". Released on his own Chi-Sound label and backed by the orchestra he used on recordings by such artists as the Chi-Lites, the track is a musically detailed chunk of distinctive mid-tempo disco rich in mazy sax solos, sweet female backing vocals, and seriously undulating grooves. On this timely reissue, the track is naturally backed by its' original B-side, a sugary chunk of polished, richly orchestrated soul called "Show Me The Way To Love".

Few in his field managed to cook up the sort of delicious disco brilliance that he manages and this new 12" on the fledgling Discolidays isn't going to change that perception. The Hurt
Sunshine
Review: Yes! A brilliant induction into the Neroli annals of fame for Mr Dego and his 200 Black crew; joining the likes of Domu and Nubian Mindz in adding some classic bruk boogie perspective to Volcov's long running label. There's numerous reasons to check this triple hitting Find A Way plate, not least the title cut where Dego teams up with Akwasi and Kaidi Taiham, with the latter offering up a rare turn on vocals as opposed to manning the keys; the results are sublime and soul enriched boogie which offers a nice contrast with the deeper, rolling bump of "The Hurt". The amazing Bembe Segue turns up on "Sunshine" with Dego and crew wisely taking a step back to let her take centre stage.

He teams up with Den Ishu on the emotive late night mood music of 'Disco Dust' on the A side, while over on the flip Monsieur Van Pratt serves up the sweltering disco funk of 'Just Groove With Us' featuring a killer brass section. Review: Endless Flight has done us all a favour by shining a light on the little-known work of French zouk maestro Jacob F Deviscaux. Here, they round of their retrospective series of "anthology" releases with another red-hot three-tracker. Side-one begins with "Rifyx", a wonderfully summery, horn-laden concoction from the musician's 1985 album Oh Madina that somehow joins the dots between jazz-funk, zouk and disco, before continuing with Deviscaux's 1982 Afro-funk/synth-boogie/electro-zouk production for vocalist Tala. Best of all, though, is Kuniyuki's stupendously celebratory flipside re-edit of "Rifyx", which turns the all-too-short original into an eight-minute slab of audio sunshine.

Review: "Understood by few; mysterious or secret." is the dictionary definition of arcane. The term is also the name for the new label venture from Edg4r, a key member of the boogie and disco loving Miami Players Club crew. The debut 12" comes from Diamond Jackson, aka Superior Elevation boss man Tom Noble and Edg4r in producer and executive producer role respectively, and features a trio of fuzzed out, disco-boogie-house crossovers. If you've been a fan of Noble's work to date, you will definitely be seduced by these three cuts which all feel redolent of a byegone era but benefit from contemporary production methods - the bassline on "Maybe So" is particularly heavy! A fine start for the Arcane crew!

Hectic, percussion heavy and charged with jazzy, sunkissed samba flavours it's the perfect unity of The Jazzinvaders live spirit and Diesler's heavier dancefloor swing. For balance, Neil Cowley takes us deep into the realms of psychedelic house with his remix of Asterion's "I See". With rusty Rhodes and a bassline that morphs into an utter beast, it's the perfect foil to the crazy fusion of the main A-side.
