Midnight Riot Volume 9
Cat: MRV 011. Rel: 23 Sep 15
Aashton - "Pride" (6:13)
Peza - "Black Gold" (6:23)
Fabiolous Barker - "The Paradise" (6:37)
Rayko - "The Jam" (5:55)
Review: Yam Who?'s Midnight Riot is back with another volume of funky, party starting edits, so come and get your fix. Aashton's "Pride" samples the diva vocals of you know who on this smooth and soulful number. Peza's "Black Gold" is pure classic disco, reminiscent of Salsoul, possibly? Fabiolous Barker's "The Paradise" has that retro and Balearic vibe that fans of labels like Love On The Rocks and Efficient Space will certainly dig. "The Jam" by Rayko is a re-edit of you guessed it: Technotronic's "Pump Up The Jam".

Ostia 1982 (5:54)
Traffic Jam (4:09)
Foresta (4:17)
Review: Ad Bourke and Rotla are Italy's answer to Floating Points and the rest of the nu-school, nu-jazz crew. The two Roman beat soldiers are a constant presence on our radars, always keeping things fresh and in flux. They land head-high on the young and vibrant Really Swing label with these naughty three cuts, spread across two sides of 10" wax - our favourite format. "Ostia 1982" makes reference to Rome's decadent riviera and the italo-disco movement, where its 4/4 disco licks dominate the A-side with pride and mystique. "Traffic Jam" is a wonky boogie chiller with liquid-like electro bass tones, and "Foresta" heads down the jazzy pastures that these two usually like to indulge in; the tune is a magnificent excursion into a deep and chimerical world of percussion and ethereal sonics. Bliss.

South Asian Edits (140 gram vinyl 12")

Mast Qalandar (Raheel Khan edit) (6:36)
Sansani (Adesi edit) (5:29)
Nah Nah Nah (Adesi edit) (3:33)
Kammata (Adesi edit) (4:36)
Kuchi Kuchi (Adesi edit) (4:51)
Review: Exploring the sounds emanating from South Asia, Masaala is a new label with a fresh outlook. The first release features Manchester-based producers Raheel Khan and Adesi turning in some powerful edits that will appeal to anyone seeking invigorating sounds from further afield. Khan's twist on "Mast Qalandar" sounds like a striking version of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's "Mustt Mustt". Adesi offers up the lions share of the edits though, channeling South Asian sounds through grooves ranging from the fierce disco stomp of "Sansani" to the low slung funk groove of "Nah Nah Nah". "Kammata" has a more dense rhythmic complexity at its heart, and "Kuchi Kuchi" collides traditional sounds with contemporary broken beat to brilliant effect.

Trax 25 vs DJ History Vol 3: Trax Re Edited
Cat: HURTLP 098-3. Rel: 04 Feb 11
Adonis - "Down The House" (Toby Tobias & Hardway Bros remix)
Willie Wonka - "What Is House" (Andy Blake edit)
Ron Hardy - "Sensation" (Richard Sen edit)
Mr Lee - "Pump Up Chicago" (JD Twitch edit)
Review: Whilst all the vinyl samplers for this DJ History curated Trax Re-edit compilation are worth investigating, it's perhaps this third volume that screams essential the most by virtue of the presence of JD Twitch, Andy Blake, Richard Sen, Toby Tobias and Hardway Bros as the resident re-editors. Nor do they disappoint either as Hardway Bros team up with Rekids type Tobias and introduce some driving energetic synth patterns into Adonis' "We're Rocking Down This House" as well as embellishing the bottom end for a modern day warehouse thumper. Equally good is Cave Painter Andy Blake teasing out the rubbery off kilter undertones to Willy Wonka's spoken word drum machine thriller "What Is House" whilst retaining the raw, stuttering core. On the flip, Richard Sen goes deep on the signature synth stabs to Ron Hardy's "Sensation" which will destroy the more discerning dancefloors out there. Finally JD Twitch strips Mr. Lee's "Pump Up Chicago" of its really quite silly overtones and twists the track into a brilliantly hypnotic and menacing acid tinged late night jacker

Spacer Woman From Mars
Cat: LOEB 007. Rel: 11 Mar 08
Johan Agebjorn/Sally Shapiro - "Spacer Woman From Mars"
Johan Agebjorn/Sally Shapiro/Rude 66 - "Deeper Space Woman"
Johan Agebjorn/Sally Shapiro/Elitechnique - "Outer Space Woman" (parts 1 & 2)
Johan Agebjorn - "Mega Man II"
Review: Taken from the recent, highly acclaimed 'Milky Disco' compilation on Lo Recordings, 'Spacer Woman' is a scintillating slab of hi-octane,
Italo space-disco. Created by Johan Agebjörn, who was responsible for all the production on Sally Shapiro's 'Disco Romance' album, the
12" includes remixes by Rude 66 and Elitechnique which take it even deeper into space and onto nu-disco dancefloors. Dutch electro
artist Rude 66, with releases on labels like Viewlexx, Bunker and Crème Organization, previously remixed Sally's hit 'I'll Be By Your Side',
receiving plenty of club play from DJs like The Hacker and Tiga. His take on this 12", titled 'Deeper Space Woman', is a slow and deep,
dubby trip which will work well as a start-up for slower DJ sets. Dutch duo Elitechnique, with releases on Clone and Radius and earlier
remixes for Black Devil Disco Club and Alden Tyrell, take the track into a nu-disco dancefloor monster called 'Outer Space Woman' with
additional backing vocals by the Dutch actress Loes. The 12" ends with a wicked sidechain dance version of a computer game track,
'Mega Man II re-mix' by Johan Agebjörn, here without Sally's vocals but with vintage 8bit sounds. Sally Shapiro's debut album 'Disco
Romance' was released in 2007 and received excellent reviews from magazines like Pitchfork Media, Vice, Der Spiegel and XLR8R. It
was recently nominated as 'electronic/dance album of the year' by U.S. Plug Awards and Sally was nominated as 'female artist of the year'.
'Spacer Woman From Mars' was originally intended for 'Disco Romance', but was taken out because of its space rather than love theme.

Unlimited Love #11
Aggression - "Tag" (7:50)
Robbie Cee - "Beautiful People" (instrumental) (4:43)
Ron Richardson - "Ooh Wee Babe" (7:40)
Sophisticated Ladies - "This Ain't Really Love" (4:14)
Review: Much sought after represses from the Unlimited Love camp, now up to their eleventh edition. On the A side, there's some seriously soulful and raw funk in the form of Aggression's "Tag" from 1981. It's anyone's guess when Robbie Cee's "Beautiful People" (instrumental) is from, but this sexy electronic disco number is timeless and said to be played out by the likes of Hunee and other top selectors. On the flip, Ron Richardson's boogie down joint from 1983 "Ooh Wee Babe" was admittedly our absolute favourite of the bunch. but, honourable mention also to the quite familiar sounding soul power of Sophisticated Ladies - "This Ain't Really Love" (1980).

Rydim - "Fomo" (Johannes Albert remix) (6:46)
Leon Revol - "Acid Is Rolling" (Johannes Albert remix) (6:48)
Review: Frank Music look to main man Johannes Albert for the second volume of their Rarities series and he covers plenty of musical ground in the process. First up, Benjamin Frohlich's 'Tivoli' gets a super upbeat and summery 4/4 disco re-treatment to kick things off, before Albert steps up again to tackle Kayroy's 'Identification Unknown' with future-facing disco synths. The version of 'Fomo' he serves up is more dirty and danceable, with acid lines and twinkling arps. Last of all, Albert's remix of Leon Revol - 'Acid Is Rolling' is an undulating cut with muscular beats and crispy snares.

Downtown Sounds Classics Volume 4

Aleem - "Release Yourself" (Pablo & Shoey Re-jig) (11:37)
Mary Clark - "Take Me I'm Yours" (Pablo & Shoey Re-jig) (8:05)
Rena - "Dance It Off" (Pablo & Shoey Re-jig) (8:53)
Review: Mancunian scalpel fiends Pablo & Shoey have been rather quiet of late. Surprisingly, this is the first EP in their popular Downtown Sounds Classics series for almost two years. In a nod to Manchester's once-thriving electro scene, the A-side is given over to a tasty, on-point rearrangement of Aleem's 1984 breakdance classic "Release Yourself", which once helped inspire a generation of future dance music producers. On the flip, Mary Clark's recently reissued 1980 disco classic "Take Me I'm Yours" goes under the knife, before they finish with a high-octane chunk of obscure disco silliness: Rena's ludicrously hard to find "Dance It Off". Their edit is fairly reverential, sticking to the loose and sweaty feel of the original.

Karol Aleksander - "Ja" (6:08)
Radar & Unitrax - "Diamentowa Kula" (6:51)
Selvy - "Piec Minut Lez" (6:35)
Review: Very Polish Cut-Outs boss Zambon recently announced that the in-demand series would soon come to an end. Before then, though, there are a few more 12" singles due, starting with this fourth sampler. Karol Aleksander handles side A, opening with the slightly housed-up rolling disco of "Witajcie W Moim Swieciel" (think cut-glass strings, bouncy grooves, spacey synthesizers and heavy filters). "Ja"is a keys-laden, progressive disco-house roller, while Radar & Unitrax join forces on the strobe-lit, surprisingly exotic disco smasher "Diamentowa Kula". Another superb volume is rounded off by regular contributor Selvy, whose "Plec Minut Lez" is a Ptaki style Balearic-meets-AOR disco gem.

Review: It's straight back to church for Rahaan's 2nd release on LDF! Combining forces once again with Angel-A on vocals, the bluesy guitar and organ marry perfectly to bring a laid-back gospel vibe straight from the heart. On The Prowl Presents OTP Party Breaks #3
Freak (Andy Ash edit)
Timmy (Andy Ash edit)
D-Time (Runaway edit)
Review: More tipsy disco and house cocktail spillage from the On The Prowl camp. The third instalment of the OTP Party Breaks series opens with Andy Ash's edit of "Freak", a reworking of De De's "S&M". Ash certainly brings Jack to the party on this one, with a thudding kick drum punctuated by a funk-laden riff and expertly chopped vocal refrains. Next up Ash turns Timmy Thomas' "Why Can't We All Live Together" into a serious chugger, eeking the most out of the beefy club drums and working the organ sounds to smile inducing effect. Runaway, aka OTP chiefs Jacques Renault and Marcos Cabral, pluck "D-Time" from their seemingly bottomless pit of choice edits for more dancefloor heat on the flip.

Rabo & Snob - "Darling" (7:15)
JP Source - "Rollergirl Return" (7:04)
Review: Whisky Disco invite a trio of fresh faces to their ever-growing talent troupe for the Disco Darling EP. Andy Ash takes the lead with a loopy, strutting slice of sample-laced house that wouldn't go amiss in a Mark Farina set while Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul lower the tempo, invite us on a Balearic picnic and insist we gobble up huge chunks of Sade's "Cherry Pie". Deeper into the EP we find firm label friends Rabo & Snob laying down a velvet bed of Rhodes and vocal harmonies before the final label newcomer JP Source plays a slo-mo game of sample patty-cake with loopy disco mischief.

Mehmet Asian - "Adimiz Miskinder"
Red Axes - "Chew The Gun"
Review: The Highlife Edits series from the Huntleys & Palmers crew has proved a rip-roaring success so far with Auntie Flo, ESA, Alma Negra and Mehmet Aslan all dipping into their personal collections for some dancefloor weapons for the more adventurous selectors out there. The Berlin based Aslan returns for this fourth volume, sharing sides with I'm A Cliche's Tel Aviv correspondents Red Axes and the results are sublime. "Adimiz Miskinder" sees Aslan look to his Turkish roots, treating a a psychedelic folk cut to some hefty delay effects and beefing up the bottom end, but as good as it is the track is fairly overshadowed by the B Side beast from Red Axes. If you've been digging their efforts for I'm A Cliche's Edit Service you will love the midtempo industrial madness that is "Chew The Gun".

Riva Starr - "How It Feels" (5:44)
Shakedown & Bootsy Collins - "Funky & You Know It" (Shakedown Work That Mother mix) (5:34)
Review: Defected's colourful and diverse Glitterbox party has been a real success story in recent years and the label embodies that with a great representation of the sorts of sounds you will hear at the party. It's all about full throttle, emotionally intense house, soul and disco and that is exactly the case on Melvo Baptiste's opener 'Gonna Be Alright' (feat Jamie 3:26 & Annette Bowen) with its big diva vocals, piano stabs and hand claps. Mousse T keeps it silky and funky on the feel good 'Take It Back' and Riva Starr brings the swing to 'How It Feels'. Shakedown & Bootsy Collins's 'Funky & You Know It' (Shakedown Work That Mother mix) is a nice sleazy ass-shaker to close.

I Just Wanna Boogie (5:21)
Supermann (7:06)
Review: Felix Dickinson's long running Bastedos disco edit label comes back from a couple of years out with some certified heaters to get the party cooking just right, and he's not doing it on his own. Dickinson does take the reins for the A side, which finds "I Just Wanna Boogie" roaring out of the stocks on an uptempo, borderline Hi-NRG tip. This is definitely one to push the dancers to the limit. Meanwhile Scandinavian nu-disco legend Rune Lindbaek takes on the B side with a remix of "Supermann" that takes a much smoother, low slung route through disco funk.

Boryn - "Byles Ze Mna"
Expo 2000 - "Fantazja"
Review: The Very Polish Cut-Outs Sampler series continues to represent the party-focused arm of one of the most switched-on labels in Polish house music. On the tenth volume of the edit series we get no less than seven upfront joint to sink our teeth into, as Justyna S dices up dusty drums and funky guitar licks for the seriously infectious 'Oka Za Oko' and Zenit brings some big-room disco sass to bear on 'Dzisiaj Jutro'. The flip side sidles into deeper territory with the low-slung delights of Niko's smoky version of 'Na Jezykach' by Ka-ya-h. By the time we reach the final track - EXPO 2000's dreamy downtempo joint 'Fantazja', the pitch has slid down even lower and we're positively kicking back in the backroom with distinctive styles unique to this most esteemed of labels.

Review: Continuing their forays into the world of yesteryear grooves unabated, those pesky hell-dwelling Lumberjacks are at it again, this time drafting in O Boogie and Red Greg for some disco funk finesse for the smoothest get-downs. O Boogie lords it over the first side, leaning heavy on a rich piano hook that hammers lower register chords over an incessant disco tick, while evergreen track "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" gets re-versioned in such a floor-burning fashion you'll need asbestos boots just to get out alive. "Parody" is a slinky, liquid-like synth dream that weaves a cosmic spell while "Progresso" is a reflection of every warehouse shindig that ever took place in Chicago during the mid '80s. Joutro Mundo - "Vem Obata" (5:34)
Review: The latest drop of 'coffee shots' from Italian imprint Caffe Cornetto is another impressive affair showcasing re-edits and reworks by a quintet of artists. Label regulars BPlan and Fab-O join forces on opener 'Miscela Segrata', a lightly beefed-up and subtly quantized tweak of a heavyweight disco-funk jam, before rising star Reece Johnson slaps down 'Groove Espresso', a percussion-rich, all-action take on what sounds like a West African Afro-disco smasher from the mid-to-late 1970s. Over on side B, Shamarko offers-up an expert rearrangement of a low-slung, flute-sporting disco workout rich in gritty, funk-fuelled low-end heaviness, while Brazilian favourite Joutro Mundo lowers the tempo on the sun-baked, synth-sporting early evening gorgeousness of languid boogie jam 'Vem Obata'.

Review: The second sampler celebrating Full Pupp's 10 years in the business of releasing records kicks off with Andrea Bratten's "Every Fourth Bar", a veritable Scando-disco stomper which puts us in mind of some of the label's most classic output. The other tracks aren't too bad either: Randaberg Ego Ensemble's "You Can't Do It Right" provides a heavy percussive jam for those who like things free flowing and stripped back, the shameless vocal house of Blackbelt Andersen's "Langniappe" and one of Prins Thomas's trademark Diskomiks versions of Mental Overdrive's "Spoks", which takes things into expectedly cosmic territory.

Review: When deciding on tracks to release on '45' for the first time, the Dynamite Cuts team seems to mine a mixture of sought-after sets, familiar favourites and overlooked obscurities. This single falls int the latter category, featuring as it does two killer cuts from Funk In Hell, a 1976 album by library music collective-turned-instrumental funk outfit Button Down Brass (a band founded by trumpeter and arranger Ray Davies). A-side 'Superstition' is simply superb: a down-low cover of Stevie Wonder classic 'Superstition' that sits somewhere between down-low library funk and Blaxploitation movie soundtracks, with a dash of big band funk thrown in. Instrumental flipside 'Shades of Hades' is equally as vibrant, with elongated electric guitar notes, heady hand percussion and spacey synth sounds combining superbly with spy-funk horns and weighty bass.As played by DJ Muro from Japan

Buzz Compass - "Take Me"
Riccio - "We Have Been Waiting"
Funkyjaws - "Picnic"
Petr Serkin - "Spinning Time"
Review: Vinyl-only, 250 copies, no repress... Freedom Sessions certainly know us how to get excited. They've got the vibes to back up their air of exclusivity, too. Each of these four cuts are well-polished deep house cuts the shimmer and shake with the perfect balance of jazz, soul and disco. Native content for the Russian label comes from Buzz Compass (bubbling bass, dreamy chord swoops and a killer loop) and Petr Serkin (filtered bliss that builds and builds). Flying further afield, Italian Riccio dusts off his meanest slap bass while Belarus's Funkyjaws lays down an ultimately timeless lesson in jazz-licked filtered dynamism. Limited and lush... All boxes ticked here.

Moqueca (4:04)
Moqueca (instrumental) (3:55)
Review: Captain Planet is a globe trotting DJ and producer who mixes up worldly roots music with his own fresh take on hip-hop and dancehall. For this one he joined up with Zuzuka Poderosa & Raphael Futura for a brilliant Brazilian disco and funk song that harks back to the 70s and 80s with influences like Tim Maia, Sandra Da Sa & Gilberto Gil. 'Moqueca' though also has some nice dance floor weight to it as well as the richly tropical percussion, steamy horns and seductive chords. On the flip is an instrumental and the good news is this is a taster of a full album to come.

Review: A mighty fine collaboration is facilitated by Kill The DJ here as Tel Aviv duo Red Axes team up with Chloe 'C.A.R.' Raunet for the suitably titled Car Axes 12" - we hope this is the start of a beautiful and long-lasting musical relationship! The three original tracks here were seemingly laid down in various locations in Tel Aviv and London, but what unifies them is the ease with which Red Axes and Raunet evidently feel working together. Modern cold wave is hard to pull off but this trio achieve it with a degree of nonchalance that would impress the genre's early 80s pioneers! Il Est Vilaine and Horrors man Tom Furse contribute fine revisions of "Incognito" with the latter's Cosmic Dub particularly rewarding in it's widescreen panorama.

Rune Lindbaek - "Ratsastic Empress" (4:50)
Khidja - "Chuncho" (11:08)
Review: The sixth helping from Duca Bianco is a big disco offering that kicks off with a first track from Casinoboy in a decade. His 'On My Mind' is a corrugated jam with knotted bass and deadpan 80s vocals then some a secret unknown weapon that layers angular, slapping drums with rave sirens and a dark disco beat. Contemporary disco legend Rune Lindbaek then comes good with a sci-fi trip and gauzy synth lines of 'Ratsastic Empress.' Last of all, Khidja rounds out on 'Chuncho', a smooth groove with far-sighted pads that get you in the zone. Pressed on nice heavy 140g wax, this is another tidy 12" from Duca Bianco.

Review: Slick synth disco vibes abound as Pole Jam reach their third release (and first this year) in the company of Cassara, Monsoon Season, Eclectic Sound and label regulars Deep Sound Express. As with previous drops there's a great sense of silky sonic consistency throughout that allays any fears you may have regarding various artist releases. From the cinematic late 70s illustriousness of Criss Cassara's "La Vela" to the deep heavy nodding Raha-fronted emotion session "Closer" via the sand-in-toes, fuzzy guitar-plucking title track, Pole Jam move forever closer to that all important 'essential label' status. Stay tuned.

Review: They don't call him the Stevie Wonder of house music for nothing: Kerri Chandler brings musicality and unbridled joy to everything he does. For this one, there is even more of a celebratory and raptors feeling than normal because of the appearance of Rev F. L. Brown. His impassioned, gravelly toned sermons are cut up and dropped into one of Kerri's timeless house beats, and the results are exceptional. HIs famous kicks punk as heavily as always, the chords are simple but effective, and the whole thing is sure to become a classic that can always be reached for to make a dance floor erupt. Vidal Benjamin Presente Disco Sympathie Edith Sampler
Marc Chantereau - "Gibraltar" (Jeff Gets A Single Room! edit)
Raymonde Et Les Moutards - "Y'en A Marre" (Jean Marc Misere Pure Beat edit)
Review: In October, Gilbr's Vesatile imprint will release a collection of obscure French disco, boogie and synth wave jams put together by renowned Parisian crate digger Vidal Benjamin. Here, the label presents a second sampler, featuring re-edits of cuts on the comp. The real killer is Jean Marc Misere's Pure Beat Edit of Raymond Et Les Moutards' "Y'en A Marre", which turns the original into a locked-in chunk of dancefloor-friendly boogie underpinned by a superbly rubbery bassline. The A-side edit of "Gibraltar" by Marc Chantereau is pretty tasty, too, with the eccentric original - all whoops, loose disco and zany vocals - being given a well-judged dancefloor tweak.

David Last - "All That's Left" (feat Lavender - dance mix) (5:51)
Review: Besides its inimitable name, Hobo Camp has had a pretty unbeatable first few years in the game, switching up the electro sound with shades of loopy house and techno. These guys have released over two dozen EPs since 2016, and are showing no signs of stopping if this new collaborative release is anything to by! Pumping the vibes through with utter ease, Run The Length Of Your Wilderness is a daring, rip-roaring amalgamation of tech-driven sounds that span just about every quality corner of the game. "The Industrial City", from Cherushii, moans and weeps with a fragile acid bassline over broken percussion beats, while Nackt's "Next" floats at a house tempo, driven forwards by a winding bass from the darkest corners of the 4/4 game. On the flip, Roche's "One For Cherushii" bigs up his counterpart with a deep, aqueous house chugger, and David Last's "All That's Left" drops a clean, sparkly prog house groover for the lovers.

Review: Only 300 of these puppies are being pressed with no intention of digital trips or represses. Sitting sexily between disco and deep house, each of these cuts wriggles and writhes with summer intentions. "Soy Beans" is a straight-up Chicago groove, all house proud and loopy, "You Got It Goin On" is driven by a Moodyman style jazz loop, "808 Pleasure" starts with classic warehouse intentions before dropping into a groove so beautiful Mr Fingers would snap his digits. Finally we take a skinny dip in the oceanic synths and fathomless depths of "You Keep Me Waiting". We didn't think it was possible, but long weekends just got even better!

20/20 Vision and Crazy P continue their long and fruitful relationship with a fourth volume of carefully curated and super-fresh new cuts as part of this fine ongoing series. Scandi-disco don Ray Man opens up with typically lush cosmic melodies and loose-limed nu-disco beats with more than a hint of funk. Tigerbalm then heads into a tropical oasis with 'Cosmic Union' (feat Joy Tyson) which has Afro rhythms and steamy vocals bringing the heat. Ruf Dug shows his multi-genre chops again with 'Vape Quarter Rhythm' which is part proto-house cut and part dreamy Italo bliss out with rave whistles and hands-in-the-air chords. Ibiza's Tuccillo closes out with one of his signature Balearic gems in 'Siroco', which is as breezy and carefree as cocktails by the sea at sundown.

Review: A decade has now passed since Crossroads released their debut. The Italian duo has not released all that much in between, which is a shame since 'If You're In Need' - a cover of a disco-era soul staple made famous by Lenny Williams' soaring 1979 version - is genuinely terrific. Their take on the classic song is arguably best enjoyed in its 'Extended Mix' form, which blends authentic, 1970s style disco instrumentation (including sultry strings and the prominent piano stabs from Williams' version) with subtly beefed-up grooves, jazzy horn solos and subtle nu-disco flourishes. The remix is package is great, with a sublime, beat-free, full vocal version (the 'Acoustic' mix) being joined by a sublime, synth-sporting Young Pulse remix (another winner from the Parisian re-edit hero) and the groovy, effects-laden 'Call Me Dub'.

Review: La dame Noir is a Marseille-based label who first crept onto vinyl with a crucial various artists release back in 2016. Now they're back with more of that noirish modern disco deviance that made them an exciting proposition first time around. "Take The Shock Away" is a bittersweet groover by Dawad and label co-founder Relatif Yann, with pitch-perfect vocals by Mounissa which sounds strong on its own. The label however has drafted in a list of big hitters to deliver remixes, from Vox Low's synthwave laced trip to Pete Herbert's punchy electro-disco burner. Whichever version you plump for, the quality is undeniable on this surefooted 12".

Rainbow Perch (Emile Strunz remix)
Review: US label Wonder Stories follow up strong turns from Macaulay, Joe Morris and Jac The Disco with this hemisphere-spanning collaboration between Aussie producer Dawn Again and UK stalwart Rothmans. The mood on the record is squarely aimed at psychedelic strains of house music for adventurous, smooth grooving souls, whether it's the originals or the remixes you came for. "Timeless Odyssey" matches fuzzy bass with swirling pads and peppy rhythms, which Timothy J Fairplay dutifully jacks up with a wavey sensibility and plenty of dancefloor heft. "Rainbow Perch" is a synth-rich party ballad loaded with heart to match its infectious grooves. Emile Strunz delivers a remix that builds on the original's yearning qualities with a journeying spirit that would make for some great outdoors listening / partying.

Review:  The legendary disco master Dimitri From Paris made the lead a-side remix here back in 1992. His version of Claudia Philips's 'Donne Moi Du Feu' makes use of a sample from Carl Bean's 'I Was Born This Way' and is a gloriously sunny tune with New York house drums, finger clicks and s silky vocal as well as rap bass and rich organ sounds. Three other perfectly Balearic house tunes also make the cut with a super cool, jazz laced Philly mix of 'Soledad', slow and sun kissed vibes from Atlantique and more jazz stylings on the downtempo disco bliss of 'Ou Trover Les Violons.'

'I'm In Love Dancin' takes source sounds from Arthur Russell's classic 'Is It All Over My Face' and repurposes them with gangling percussive lives, sunny flutes and mad horns to make for something that will shake your body loose.
