Groove Culture Jams Vol 2
Dutchican Soul - "Raise It Up" (feat Karmina Dai & Mr V - Micky More & Andy Tee remix) (6:03)
Serge Funk - "Do It Again" (6:30)
Reverendos Of Soul - "Glory" (Micky More & Andy Tee mix) (6:24)
Soulista - "Symphomaniac" (feat Karmina Dai) (6:16)
Review: More good time, disco-fired fun from Italy's most positive musical duo, as Groove Culture founders Micky More and Andy Tee offer up four more reasons to be cheerful on one action-packed 12". They kick things off with their own musically expansive, soul-flecked, peak-time ready remix of Dutchican Soul's hybrid disco/hip-house workout 'Raise It Up', before offering us a chance to giddily dance along to Serge Funk's piano-heavy, house style disco workout 'Do It Again'. Flip the 12" for their stomping, organ-heavy gospel house tweak of 'Glory' by Reverendos of Soul, and the piano-powered, string-laden disco-house cheeriness that is Soulista's 'Symphomaniac'.

Kato - "Disco-Tech" (Soulphiction Pause Tape edit) (5:17)
Rhano Burrell - "When Can I Call You" (feat Lisa Lee - Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon edit) (5:21)
Review: The second volume of edits of classic outings on Nu Groove records, assembling modern house heroes such as Dam Swindle, Phil Weeks, and Honey Dijon to re-fix tunes by the legendary Equation and The Burrell Brothers among others. Highlights include Dam Swindle's misty eyed extension of Equation's 'I'll Say A Prayer 4 U'- a perfect rainy day house anthem, and the paranoid phonk of Rhano Burrell's 'When Can I Call You' as remapped by Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon. Surefire party starters all round.

Running Out (5:51)
Devotion (5:51)
Review: Dominik Marz and Radial Gaze are known groove driven sounds embellished with smart percussion, and that is just what they serve up here for Urge To Dance. Their collaborative 'Shintu' EP opens with 'Shintu', a party starter thanks to its ever more wild synth leads and chunky drum loops. 'Arkao' is another mix of bright synth theatrics with tightly sequenced arpeggios, subtle acid lines and elastic drums. Things get more freaky and acid-centric on the wonky 'Running Out' and 'Devotion' shuts down with another body-popping rhythm led by insistent stabs that never quit.

Modula - "Luna D'Argento" (4:12)
Review: Vacanze di Natale! Four party jams by Alberto Melloni, Luca Bacchetti, Modula feat. Carmen Lubrano from Italy, and Red Woodchuck, the Dutch cherry on top. With flavours of Italo and Balearic music brought together under the sonic infrastructure of house, choice cuts here include the mallety-echoic 'La Femme D'a Cote' and the AOR-tinged 'Luna D'Argento', both of which round off the record like year-end fireworks. Each record comes with a different sticker sleeve.

Review: For years, Purple Disco Machine has been igniting dancefloors worldwide and his momentum shows no signs of waning here. His latest single, 'Higher Ground,' is a collaboration with German artist Roosevelt and is a track that channels the vibrant energy of the 80s to deliver a club banger with an infectious synth loop that keeps dancers sweating on the dance floor. With its retro-inspired sound and undeniable groove, 'Higher Ground' is poised to become another standout hit for Purple Disco Machine and Roosevelt.

Have You Seen My Lady (6:37)
Yom Yom (dub) (7:16)
Adjinu (6:19)
Review: Razor-N-Tape looks to Israeli producers Eyal Rob and Ronen Sabo for this latest tasty trip. The duo serves up fine disco, funk, and afro fusions that take you from the terrace to the back room and then outside once more when the sun comes up. 'Yom Yom' (feat Soma Idrissu) is the warm and feel-good party starter, then 'Have You Seen My Lady' is more rooted to the floor with its heavy kicks, chants, and claps. There's a fun and playful 'Yom Yom' dub to kick off the flip side, then 'Adjinu' gets more freaky, with a wandering bassline and plump loops getting peppered with organic percussion.

Blind (5:17)
If U Wanna (7:02)
Te Siento Dentro (6:12)
Vice (5:02)
Review: The fifth entry on the M.A.D. Records series comes from Rakim Under, following up on their first appearance with the 'Lady J' re-fix on M.A.D. EDITS 003. Once again the label holds true to its dedication to the dancefloor by platforming these fast and furious hip-hop breakin' house jams, which roll from the dexterous drum funk of 'Blind' to the rolling, jazzy and Loom-bird toting 'If U Wanna'. The good-times vibe maintains on the B-side as a sweatier jack emerges around 'Te Siento Dentro', a faithful revision of a prototypical house joint, and then we're treated to the uptempo Latino rap throwdown of 'Vice'. If you want to set a party alight, every one of these tunes has all you need to get some heat generating out on the floor.

Angel'o - "Angelo" (5:19)
All Trouvee - "Darling" (3:50)
Angel - "Tomorrow Night" (3:53)
Eggs Time - "Feeling Action" (4:12)
Review: Leng Records' 59th release is something a little different: a very personal collection of largely obscure and hard-to-find gems, mostly created by European pop producers in the late '70s and early '80s, from artist and record collector Paul Beckett. Firmly Balearic and sun-soaked in tone, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. For proof, first check Ray & John's 'Day By Day (Instrumental), which sounds like Please-era Pet Shop Boys reclining at a pool party in Rimini, before admiring the space rock/synth-pop fusion of 'Angelo' by Angel'o. Over on the flip, Beckett offers up three more slices of glassy-eyed goodness, with the loved-up deep synth pop of Angel and the fretless bass-sporting wooziness of Eggs Time standing out.

Gold Dust Woman (5:09)
Amigo (6:49)
Review: Rayko is back with a much anticipated second volume of the Vadillo Vice series on Rare Wiri and again it is timeless disco and house for fans of the likes of Tiger & Woods. 'Rain' is slow and rugged with fleshy arps and tinny percussion before an iconic via sample lights up the groove. 'Mercy' is another unhurried but soul drenched sound with low slung drums and claps and airy pads up top. 'Gold Dust Woman' ups the ante a little with extra pace but no less emotion and heartfelt vocals while 'Amigo' closes down with a lovely Spanish twist.

Classy Dance Orchestra - "New York Strut" (6:35)
Captain Dax - "Dr Beezar" (2:43)
Review: The legend of Ron Hardy will always live on - the pioneering selector changed the way dance music was played and consumed in clubs. His own edits were the backbone of his often intensely emotional and celebratory sound and this Ray label has long been putting out the best of them. Number 53 in the series kicks off with the cosmic synths and soothing vocal harmonies of 'Atmosphere Strut' before 'Classy Dance Orchestra' gets all elegant and sophisticated in its approach to disco. Captain Dax's 'Dr Beezar' is the last cut and another direct line to the sound of Paradise Garage in the 70s.

Review: Armed with a hard drive full of multi-track parts to a wide array of disco, rock, boogie and pop classics, the Reflex has spent the last decade offering up unique "Revisions" that often differ greatly to their source material despite using the same basic instrumental and vocal tracks. He's at it again here, offering up sneaky revisions of two dancefloor soul classics. On the A-side he handles "Dance To The Music", frequently stripping the track back to little more than a stomping groove, delay-laden vocals and wild organ lines. On the flip he turns his attention to "Pusherman", gently beefing up the groove while showcasing the attractive sweetness of the original track's fluid horn parts and bulging bassline.

BD LCK (8:28)
Review: While his source material tends towards the well known, there's no denying the quality of The Reflex's "revisions". Their genius likes in his ability to source and utilize stems and master tapes, allowing him to remix and re-edit killer disco jams in the same manner as original masters such as Tom Moulton. It means that he can craft new instrumental breakdowns, stretch out portions that were originally overlooked, and generally breathe new life into otherwise all-too-familiar anthems. The two revisions featured here are typically impressing, with the impassioned, driving, heavily rearranged Philadelphia Soul flipside ("BD LCK") just nudging out anthem like A-side "Ansun" (a brilliantly teased-out version of one of the most familiar disco records of all time).

Review: For his latest trick, cheeky scamp The Reflex has turned his attention to the Herbie Hancock tune that inspired countless 1980s kids to don a tracksuit, grab a pair of Adidas Shelltoes and hurl themselves around like the Crazy Legs crew. Naturally, his version of 'Rockit' is a body-popping treat that subtly extends and rearranges sections - especially those containing Hancock's jammed-out synth parts - and adds a few tasty breakdowns before unleashing the now familiar melody. Over on the flip the French producer takes his scalpel to the Isley Brothers, providing a fine multi-track edit and extension of the group's much-loved, guitar-solo sporting proto-disco soul number 'That Lady'.

Review: The Reflex never fails to serve up dazzling edits and now he is back on Revision with another super tidy two tracker. Up first is 'Hpyflng,' a gloriously feel good tune with big soul vocals, hints of 60s funk in the grooves and muffled crowd noises to add extra atmosphere, and that's all before some mad xylophone work comes in to really take things to the next level. On the flipside, 'Strtgy' slows down and sinks into a more deep cut and fat bottomed gooey propped up by some rich funk bass. The hip swinging claps and breezy guitars really flesh out this stylish and seductive sound.

The Fall (3:41)
Review: Maurice Fulton has delivered countless killer remixes over the last two and a half decades, including plenty that for one reason or another remain hard-to-find. This remix of LA r&b/indie-pop fusionists Rhye - first released 11 years ago - fits in that category. Fulton's version, showcased on side A, is a typically atmospheric, spaced-out affair rich in trademark crunchy disco drums, fluid and wayward electronic synth-bass reminiscent of his Syclops project, elastic bass guitar, effects aplenty and tactile female lead vocals. As the B-side original mix - a piano-laden downtempo pop number that swims in similar sonic waters to Sebastien Tellier's 'La Ritournelle' - shows, Fulton's mix is a genuinely radical re-build that exemplifies the very best of remix culture.

Review: The small but already well formed Demon Singles Club has a couple of pearlers for you this month. This one from Jersey City, New Jersey disco and soul group Rhyze is an early 1980s classic that has become wroth a few quid over the years. The A-side tune 'Just How Sweet Is Your Love' is lush disco funk with gloriously golden grooves and silky chord work next to timeless hip-swinging disco drums and some lush Philly strong stabs. Love In Space (U-Key Deep Monday dub) (4:39)
Review: If you're a dusty-fingered disco digger with a fondness for intergalactic-themed, over-the-top brilliance, you may well already be aware of Love in Space, the sole, sought-after album from Rene Riche & Her Cosmic Band. Arguably the album's best moment is the driving, soaring, camp-as-Christmas title track, which here gets re-edited and remixed. T-Groove wisely sticks closely to the original on the A-side re-edit, retaining Riche and company's vocals while extending and rearranging some of the track's sublime instrumental sections. In contrast, the flipside U Key Monday dub mix craftily re-casts the track as a bouncy, delay-laden slab of disco-house hedonism full of rubbery slap bass, descending strings and boisterous Clavinet stabs.

Review: Italy's Groove Culture has really done a fine job of winning us over since it started out and this 14th EP is another one that is sure to slide into your affections. It's a quartet of disco-tinged house cuts from Right to Life, Micky More and Andy Tee that kicks off with the hip swinging and lush feels of 'Subway'. Review: Two years ago, Demi Riquisimo invited friends and like-minded producers to rework tracks he'd released on his own Semi Delicious label. Now he's decided to repeat the exercise on a belated, if welcome, sequel. Bristol-based Manami steps up first, brilliantly re-imagining 'Mirage Over' as a trippy, mind-mangling, sun-fresh slab of progressive techno goodness rich in bubbly electronics, all-action bass and deep space chords, before Gallegos re-frames 'Point 1'as an acid-fired, cowbell-powered fusion of kaleidoscopic nu-disco, slick house and Italo-disco revivalism. Over on the flip, Gina Breeze delivers a throbbing, trance-inducing tweak of 'Sanitise', while Asa Tate reaches for synthesised pan pipes, dream house piano stabs and sunrise electronics on a pulsating, glassy-eyed take on 'Anxious Elephants'.

Review: Here's a cool double pack 7" drop on Act Of Sedition which serves up some snappy edits of heady grooves from the broad church of funk and soul. A-side cut 'Condition' is a much-loved anthem these days thanks to Ken Rogers' original tune soundtracking the most psychedelic bowling sequence ever set to celluloid in The Big Lebowski, and this 'V Jagged Sky' version has some choice zippy effect to only enhance the trippiness. Lup Ino's 'I've Been Working' is a soulful disco house strutter, while DJ Steef's rework of Belenou's 'Sove Te-A' is a mesmerising slice of Afro groove with a rhythm section that'll hook you in hard. Bully Boy's 'Pasteurised' sits pretty on Side D in a subtly pumped up slice of high life goodness to lift the party's collective spirits in no uncertain terms.

His classics "Love Brought Me Back" and "Love You Forever" are remastered and reissued here on South Street's new disco reissue arm. Review: Milan based crew Rollover DJs tap into the spirit of Balearic here with the brilliant new EP 'Change My Mind' on their own label. They also hosts their own party in the city and this is exactly what you would here there - opener 'What Do You Live For?' has elongated groovers detailed with neat guitar riffs and some fine, bendy bass guitar while gentle cosmic synth twinkling up top and a hooky indie vocal unfurls in the middle. 'Change My Mind' picks up the pace and 'Never Found The Way' then brings it down to a more dubbed out space disco cruiser that might well be the EP highlight.

The tracks it consists of were shelved for more than ten years, said to have floated between a handful of DJs after its first confidant, Andrea Confrancesco, chose a different path in his creative career by becoming a professional illustrator. "Still In Love" and "Best Love", both of which were featured on 1982 album "Stronger Than Ever", fit into this category. A-side "Still In Love" is undoubtedly one of the band's most anthem-like cuts, with powerful female vocals rising above a hybrid disco-boogie groove and sumptuous orchestration. "Best Love", meanwhile, is a synth-powered boogie master class rich in passionate-emotion-rich vocals and the kind of tasty electronic backing track that recalls contemporaneous releases from labels such as Solar System and Prelude.

Its neon glow and diffuse light capture the vibes of the synths on the opening cut 'C'est Party' perfectly. It's a melodically rich tech house cut with rubbery bass and great spoken words from a world disco dancing competition. Occibel's 'Give 'Em Some Rest' is busy and dense with whirring sci-fi synths, funky Prince riffs, thudding house beats and plenty of colour. What Am I Gonna Do? (dub version) (3:54)
Review: Ilija Rudman has made some magical music over the years, with the Croatian producer frequently blurring the boundaries between dusty synth-disco, Balearic nu-disco and colourful downtempo synth-funk. On 'What Am I Gonna Do', he investigates the lo-fi and Street Soul-soaked end of the boogie spectrum, laying Tafuri's sweet lead vocals over unfussy drum machine beats, elastic synth-bass, tactile chords and chiming synthesiser lead lines. Over on side B, Rudman strips out most of Tafuri's vocals on a more skeletal but no less impactful 'dub' mix. It's good, but the superb full vocal version is our pick of a predictably strong pair of tracks.

Review: On its initial release in 1983, 'Dolce Vita' - the debut singe from Fabio Roscioli under the Anglicised Ryan Paris alias - sold five million copies in Europe, briefly turning the Italian artist into a colossal star. This 40th anniversary reissue naturally features both versions from the original 12" - the glossy, mid-tempo cheeriness of the Italo-disco-goes-synth-pop flex of the 'Extended Mix' - and the similar sounding instrumental. Over on side B, we get the obligatory remixes. Italo-disco specialist Flemming Dalum delivers a sparkling Italo-disco take that's arguably even better than the 83 original, while Van Edelsteyn beefs up the original and adds a touch of 21st century dancefloor throb with added early Warp Records style bleeps.

Rainy Cinderella (radio edit) (4:28)
Review: Not long after a lovely 7" from Ryusenkei in the form of 'Spring Rain', CMT is back with more beguiling and beautiful sounds from the Japanese artists. As always she mixes up elements of jazz funk, city pop, disco and more next to swooning instrumentals while her delicate voice soars. 'Timemachine Love' has a nice upbeat disco feel and rolling bass that never lets up on on the flip of this special sealer vinyl is 'Rainy Cinderella (radio edit) which is a more slow and sentimental soul sound that has poised bass and melancholic horns.

Tokyo Sniper (4:36)
Review: CMT hits its tenth release and serves up a super sweet 7" featuring a fascinating fusion of sounds from Ryusenkei. The A-side here, 'Spring Rain' is a mix of jazz funk, city pop, disco and plenty more, with lush instrumentals and her own delicate vocals sung in Japanese, though she appears to sing the title in English. On the flip is 'Tokyo Sniper' which is a more slow and sentiment soul sound with neat keys and riffs, lush arps and plenty of rich pianos that frame the vocals - which pair off Ryusenkei with a male response - perfectly.

Tropical Disco Records Vol 22
Vagabundo Club Social - "Costero" (6:49)
Monsieur Van Pratt - "Jazz Player" (5:04)
Infradisco - "Aungasana!" (6:27)
Roland & Brother Rich - "Roger Moore's Living Room" (6:23)
Review: Tropical Disco have now served up an impressive 22 volumes of timeless and wonderfully seductive disco tunes. These are sounds that will brightened up your life and make it sunny even if the real weather is awful, as it is now at the end of October while we write this. Vagabundo Club Social bring Latin vibes to their big, horn lead opener 'Costero.' Monsieur Van Pratt's 'Jazz Player' then leads with a more seductive horn sound and slide guitars that get you grooving. Infradisco's 'Aungasana!' layers up steamy 80s sax lines with neon chords and bulky disco house beats and Roland & Brother Rich close out with a deep and jazzy house groove straight from a Detroit basement.

Review: Dropping some 22 years after their debut single appeared in stores, Reel People's Love 2 album - their first full-length for five years - could well be their most assured, confident and polished set of songs to date. In keeping with their soulful blueprint, the music enthusiastically blurs the boundaries between house, nu-disco, 80s soul, jazz-funk and boogie, with a string of guest vocalists (Eric Roberson, Jill Rock Jones and Paula included) swinging by to showcase their undoubted talents. Our picks of an extremely strong bunch include the dreamy, head-nodding Balearic soul of 'Dance In Her Eyes', the synth-soaked goodness of 'Save A Lil Love', the Latin-flecked deep house warmth of 'Something New' and the effortlessly summery brilliance of 'Vibe'.

Review: The electrifying Rheinzand and is back with another superb full length that will get fans more than excited. Based in Ghent, Belgium it is a joint venture between multi-instrumentalist and producer Reinhard Vanbergen, Charlotte Caluwaerts of Tundra fame and Mo Disko who you will know from electronic pair The Glimmers. For the title track, Stephane Misseghers (from dEUS) joins them on drums and Bruno Coussee plays bass and it makes for a standout single "about drugs and good times, but also about hangovers, loneliness, and a twist of identity crisis." It is backed up by plenty of other innovative tunes.

Review: In the midst of disco's golden era, The Ritchie Family released their vibrant second album, 'Arabian Nights' a captivating fusion of disco and Broadway showmanship. The track, 'The Best Disco in Town', exudes an infectious energy, featuring elements of funk and disco that ignite the dance floor. Another standout track, 'Baby I'm on Fire', embodies the excess and drama of the disco scene. Its sultry lyrics and pulsating beats evoke a theatrical ambiance. The album's mesmerising anthem, 'Istanbul' combines disco rhythms with dramatic crescendos, creating an unforgettable musical experience. With its diverse range of tracks, from energetic to sensual, Arabian Nights captures the spirit of the disco era.

Review: Cold Blow has a strong track record when it comes to reissues and retrospectives, though previously they've tended to focus on obscure electro, techno and IDM. Here the London-based label flips the script, offering up a new edition of Andy Romano's 2010 single 'Everytime I Feel Alright', which was inspired by the producer's love of vintage Italo-disco. The title track is pleasingly authentic-sounding, with Romano's effects-laden vocals and bleeping synthesiser lead lines and Harold Faltermeyer-esque stabs dancing atop a Bobby Orlando style bassline and unfussy machine drums. An instrumental mix is included, alongside two original B-sides: the Fairlight stab-sporting deep electro/Italo-disco fusion of 'L'Amour Robotique' and the vocoder-sporting KOTO tribute, 'Sayonara Robot'.
