Vera (6:09)
Savage (5:40)
We De Youth (6:22)
Review: The Light Touches label and production crew brings their magic fingers to another series of hot and lesser known tunes and forgotten classics here, all with something of an Afro tinge. 'Vera' kicks off with a playful and funky disco sound that is riddled with Afro vocals and melodies that make you want to move. There is more energy to the bristling drums and flailing hits of 'Savage' which has plenty of effects and loops bring the energy then the final cut is 'We De Youth'. It's a loose-limbed and percussive workout with big horns leading the way. Glorious stuff.

Cub Lonely (Radically Lonely mix) (4:26)
Review: Chicago house great Lil Louis really nailed it when he wrote 'Cub Lonely' back in 1992 with his group The World. It was taken from their album A Journey With The Lonely and has lead vocals by Joi Cardwell that helped it become an instant club smash. All these years later it always gets a big reaction on the floor which is why it has now been reissued by Epic complete with a series of remixes. The I'm On The Guest List mix is the one with the wonky sax lines and steamy vocals, the instrumental is paired back and more club-ready then DJ Pierre's Afro club mix bringing some big and freewheeling synth energy. The Bellbottoms & Platforms mix is a subtle tweak and then the most raw of the lot is the Radically Lonely mix to close down.

Angel Eyes (Tiga remix) (6:59)
Angel Eyes (7:47)
Angel Eyes (dub mix) (7:55)
Review: Definitely one for the collectors, Lime was Canadian duo (then husband and wife) Denis and Denyse LePage, and 'Angel Eyes' was originally the second single from their third studio album, 1983's Lime III. Almost 40 years later, the track has returned as a short form release, offering the original synth pop anthem, and a clubbier dub mix.

For many, though, not least Unidisc Canada, the label carrying this re-release, the major selling point is a remix - and something of a remodelling - courtesy of Turbo Recordings boss and dance music icon Tiga. Forsaking the rather smiley and bouncy original work, in favour of something grittier and altogether more dystopian, it's a masterclass of rough, gnarly broken electro, reworking and chopping vocals into disorientating loops, before finally introducing a kind of warehouse synth pop sound.

Review: Numbers hold the key to unlock the universe. So, a six-pack can either consist of six bottles of beer, very well developed stomach muscles or in our case: a string of smash hits. To take it even further, it's exactly six tracks for the sixth part of the VA-series that is One Swallow Doesn't Make A Summer. Hit men include friends new and old: Llewellyn, Stereocalypse, Zillas On Acid, Storken & Hammer, Ede, SeNor Chugger & Count Van Delicious. The pace is cool and hot at the same time. Rave signals by Ede foil the nouveau disco by Stereocalypse or Storken & Hammer, Llewellyn does a classic house piano hop, Zilles On Acid deliver mid-tempo acid, and last, but not least, SeNor Chugger & Count Van Delicious strike a delicious pose.

Western Dreams
Half-Life
Science Fiction Man
Review: Minimal Wave presents an exquisite 7" EP release by Martin Lloyd entitled "L'Amant Electronique". Martin is mainly known for his Oppenheimer Analysis (Minimal Wave) and Analysis (Survival Records) projects, yet through the years he recorded over two dozen tracks on his own, most of which never saw the light of day. The four selected tracks were recorded between 1980 and 1984 in his own "Feedback Studios" in Battersea , London. Martin Lloyd delivers vocals via the vocoder and carefully layers synth melodies which range from upbeat and danceable, to what could be the soundtrack to a 1981 post-apocalyptic science fiction film. The record is pressed on white vinyl with a heavy black jacket (spot gloss) and is limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.

Calling Out (Floorplan Revival mix) (9:23)
Review: Given that copies of the original 7" release flew off the shelves in record time, it's heartening to see that Classic has decided to give Sophie Lloyd's brilliant "Calling Out" a proper 12" release. Her fantastic original version - a jaunty, floor-friendly gospel treat that sits somewhere between house and disco - is this time accompanied by two fresh rubs from Robert and Lyric Hood's Floorplan project. Naturally, both mixes move further towards sing-along gospel house territory with the fantastic Revival Mix - all crunchy Chicago drums, wild organs, jaunty pianos and relentless chorus - hitting home particularly hard. It's very rare that we describe an EP as being "flawless", but this is as close to perfection as you'll find.

Angels By My Side

Angels By My Side (3:40)
Angels By My Side (instrumental) (3:39)
Review: Whether she likes it or not, Sophie Lloyd will always be known for the unfeasibly uplifting gospel disco-meets-gospel-house anthem 'Calling Out'. That was released five years ago and ever since, she's struggled to embrace it's shadow. With 'Angels By My Side', Lloyd seems to have embraced this, delivering another fine gospel-powered number that inhabits a similar sonic space while being different enough to avoid accusations of treading water. It's genuinely good, too, with Pauline Taylor delivering superb lead vocals over a hybrid gospel disco/stomping gospel sound hybrid full of Hammond organ licks, booming bass guitar, piano house riffs and stirring orchestration. In other words, it's another anthem in waiting.

Review: The crew behind that monumental Ilo edit which you will have heard if you stepped in a club any time over the past year come through with a new label called Lo Fi Edits, with this debut offering brandishing five super spacey disco edits for the price of a ten bag. During the trip expect to be plucked from reality with the same tight guitar string picks of Kikroko's "Man This Is My Girl", look forward to some serious robotic struts on the Italo classic "Takin' It Straight", prepare for a savvy string massage on "Space Sentry", anticipate a sloppy bass kiss upside your chops on "Boogieasy" and be sure to receive the loopy, filtered funk finale that is the "Makin Love To The Music" sucker punch. Review: Rocksteady Disco has pressed up another tasty little hand-stamped 7" and it offers up another fine brace of Edits From Detroit on this third volume in the series. Eddie Logix is the man behind the buttons and he kicks off with 'BOSS' which has low-slung guitar sleaze and slow-motion groove rotations topped with sprinklings of percussion, angular rock riffs and guttural vocals. Flip it over and things get more smooth and seductive with 'FMPM' which has a dubbed-out disco feel, subtle cosmic chord work and bouncing bass that will keep any 'floor moving. Another great little 45.

Review: Summer is coming, which means so are the big outdoor house tunes we all love to hear with a few beers in us and the rays on our face. These are likely to have an even more explosive impact this summer when people have been stopped from dancing so long, especially when they're as pure and joyous as this one from Loods. The singable melody soars ever higher over punchy 909 drums. Disco elements and filtered French loops add extra bite and make this another epic win from the Australian producer.

Straight From The Heart (Moplen extended remix) (8:42)
Straight From The Heart (Moplen reprise) (6:31)
Review: Loose Change released their hit single 'Straight From The Heart' in 1979. The track was something of a sleeper hit, but its enduring legacy has been bolstered by its many remixes, not least one by Joey Negro. This EP keeps the fire lit in the form of two remixes by Italian producer Moplen, who just as much as Negro holds the song near and dear. Trading in the original's light-footed essence for a weightier driver, this is a jam-packed and bustingly exciting take on the song.

Hangin' On A String (12" mix) (5:58)
Review: Put simply, Loose Ends' 1985 hit 'Hangin' On A String' is not only a peerless UK soul classic, but also one of the greatest boogie-era dancefloor cuts full stop. You should really already own a copy, but if you don't, then this South Side reissue should be on your shopping list. Not only does it contain the band's brilliant original extended mix (B2) - a sing-along gem rich in hazy organ sounds, jazzy guitar solos and bustling electro-era beats - but also two celebrated 1992 remixes from Frankie Knuckles. Both are amongst the late, great DJ/producer's finest remixes, with the more instrumental and impeccably loved-up 'Reprise' version, in which Knuckles builds gently before eventually unleashing chorus vocals, being our pick of an incredibly strong pair.

The Sweetest Dub (6:16)
Review: Soundway Records' marketing team recently described Lord Echo's hook-up with Mara TK, "Sweetest Meditation", as a "high-rolling summertime opus". It's certainly rather good and well worthy of a dedicated 12" single release. The wonderful, jazz-flecked, vibraphone-heavy, dub-disco style original version is featured alongside a brand new Black Ark style instrumental dub (appropriately titled "The Sweetest Dub") which is almost worth the entrance money on its own. There are two fresh remixes, too, from old pal Julien Dyrne and the Lord himself. His "Club Mix", completed on a recent European tour, pushes it further towards leisurely vocal deep house territory whilst retaining many of the elements that made the original version such a sun-kissed summer treat.

Neve A Maggio (Deep88 remix) (4:54)
Review: Limited edition 12" dedicated to the Neve A Maggio song flavoured with four remixes. Three from Mushrooms Project and one with a 90's house style by Deep88. Wrapped in elegant electronics and an international flavour, Sara's voice recounts the unusual in these days characterized by strong anomalies and cold solitude. Like when it snows in May, like when you want to pick a rose and instead find yourself blinded by a white reflection, completely out of place. Yet there is life, under that white; breath, pulsation, a rhythm that presses and makes you dance: a song that drags you away from a daily life troubled by extraordinary events, which become intimate and confidential, but still unique, like every single snowflake.

Archeo Recordings is a reissue record label that regenerates old, lost, obscure and forgotten rare gems of mostly Italian music but also all over the world of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
All releases are licensed audio tracks re-mastered in their original form with sleeves recreated for today but all based on the original images. Archeo would like to make the music available to a wider audience of collectors, DJs, music lovers of a forgotten time.

Oye Como Va (3:26)
Review: This one has got an unlikely anthem written all over it from the Los Disco Duro. It features a pair of covers and the weird and wonderful A-side jam 'La Inconforme' is a steamy samba shuffler but with plenty of digital production touches and a roboticized vocal that is sure to hook in any sort of dance floor. After that newer opener which is well known in sonidero circles, comes the Tito Puente composition 'Oye Como Va' which has been popularised by Carlos Santa amongst others. It is another hot Latin American vibe packed with retro-futurism.

Hello Love (The Really Wild edit) (6:44)
Review: We're into mysterious new disco imprints popping up out of nowhere, so this new slab of wax by the unknown Lost Property collective is right up our alley. There's not much we can say about the artist or label given the lack of information, so here we go: "Opal Skies" is a fast-paced disco melter dipped in all that '70s glitter, whereas "Vester" heads into proto-house territories in the same vein as early Larry Levan edits. On the flip, "Broken Walls" offers some much needed balearic charm, and the Really Wild edit of "Hello Love" breaks out the boogie thanks to a storming synth bassline and those inimitable electronic bump from the 80s golden years. HOT.

Review: It would be fair to say that post-disco outfit Unlimited Touch's 1980 single "I Hear Music In the Streets" is one of the greatest boogie/electrofunk records of all time. Louie Vega clearly agrees, because late last year he decided to gather together the remaining members of Unlimited Touch and record a fresh 2020 version. The A-side "Touch Mix" is the bomb. It features a more organic-sounding disco-boogie groove than the 1980 original, with delicious guitars, bass and electric piano/organ underpinning seriously good group vocals from the sometime Prelude-signed outfit. Over on the flip, Vega serves up an electric piano solo-laden dub mix, as well as a "Classic Boogie" take that naturally sounds very similar to the band's much-loved original version.

"Electric Lady" soothes with an 80s synth soul style where singer Tucker really shines in the forefront with his honeyed dulcets. Review: The Gamm label has seemingly been around forever. It is known mostly for its run of edits and hip-hop but has recently got back to its roots with more Latin and disco sounds. Love Drop is a frequent player on the label who now comes back with another sizzling two-tracker. Up first is the bright and house-tinged disco stomper 'Journey Into You' which is a great reinterpretation of the Leon Ware classic. On the other side is his take on a Roy Ayers number that is mad infectious - 'Boogie Down' has restless drum funk and big horn energy with a great vocal hook.

Review: What differentiates Loveface's De Mixes series from its re-edit and rework rivals is a willingness to embrace synth-heavy 1980s soul and the mid-80s proto-house sound of New York City. That glossy, colourful sound once again comes to the fore on this sixth instalment in the series. After first reworking a classic, mid-80s sing-along ('That You Are'), the mysterious production crew pays tribute to loved-up, hands-in-the-air Italo-house on 'Love Fantasy'. Over on the flip, 'Pablo's Theme' is a shimmering chunk of neo-boogie/electrofunk fusion rich in rubbery synth-bass and kaleidoscopic melodies, while 'Give It To You' is another tactile and gorgeous slab of '80s soul given a subtle dancefloor makeover.

The Lovetempo EP features chilled-out vocal tracks moving between laidback disco, modern bossa nova, and Sade-esque grown-n-sexy jazz grooves. Hitting notes of both melancholy and positivity, Mattie's plaintiff vocals wind through all four of the original songs, delivering catchy and singable hooks. Yuksek's remix of the most uplifting tune takes it to joyous hands-in-the-air territory. In between you'll find the rolling, synth-heavy warmth of Mix & Fairbanks' deliciously loved-up "Shergar's Revenge" and "Me, You, Us" by Shee, a chunky sample-house number full of swirling strings, looped guitar riffs, hazy chords and righteous spoken word samples.

Black Mighty Wax - "Pull Down" (LTJ Xperience remix) (7:25)
Papik & Sarah Jane Morris - "Jericho" (LTJ Xperience edit) (5:55)
Review: Luca LTJ Trevisi is LTJ Xperience and he began his DJ and producer career in the 80s. He was a resident at two of Italy's most acclaimed clubs and sure knows how to craft a tune. As well as his own originals he is a master of the remix and someone who can rework any cut to be even more potent not he floor. He proves that here with four new versions that span deep and dreamy and cosmic disco. He tackles Vasquez, Black Mighty Wax, Soultrend Orchestra and Papik & Sarah Jane Morris and turns each into gold.

Review: Lucca Leeloo makes a big and bold and brilliant return here with a new remix album, 'Prosperous' featuring new versions of tracks from his latest long player. It is an adventurous and epic mix of cosmic, indie dance, Italo and nu-disco that has all got the club firmly in mind. And you would expect as much given that the producer has this time enlisted cornerstones of those scenes such as Shubostar, Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi, Luca dell'Orso, Endrik Schroeder, David Van Bylen, Hard Ton, Boys' Shorts and Phunkadelica.

Review: Luciano FM is founder of Funky Floor and Lounge Floor Records, as well as manager of Dafunk and member of the Neapolitan outfits Bhoo and Mall Aka Funk based in Capri. His latest comes courtesy of Sardinia's Sound Exhibitions titled 'Fly Guy'' which is a perfect lo-slung disco loop in the vein of classic DJ Sneak or MCDE's Raw Cuts series. Over on the flip, he treats you to another slo-mo dancefloor heater in the form of 'My Girl' featuring a ripping strings section, soulful vox and creamy Rhodes lines underpinned by a stompin' rhythm section.

Review: Josh Ludlow shows that he knows a thing or two about crafting superb arps and lush prog house records with this new outing on Nocturne Music. 'Mindways' is a brilliantly colourful opener with neon lines and bubbling sequences over fleshy drums. 'Touch' channels a bit of Metro Area style nu-disco production with its cowbells, textured bassline and late-night allure, and 'A Little Love' then gets more deep cut and steamy with some sensuous vocals and vast, pillowy kicks. Last of all is the more textural and raw tech-disco stepper 'Diska Tek!' to complete the package.
