Review: Scott Ferguson's highly collectable and mysterious concept was a seriously hot ticket with total anonymity running through the early releases. This ensured the full focus was on the vibes, grooves and dancefloor. Now, three years after the second EP 3, he gives the project one final hoorah with a signature range of physical late night styles. Ranging from smoky, slo-mo hypnotically plodding soul of "Track One" to all-out acid frazzles of "Track Three", it's a fittingly broad and on-point way to end a great concept series.

Review: Kerri Chandler has history with Watergate, having previously contributed to their acclaimed mix series back in 2014. "Checkmate" is his first 12" for the imprint since, and sees him deliver a cheery chunk of synthesizer-heavy positivity that may remind some listeners of the more sparkling end of Italian dream house. Certainly, the baggy piano riffs and jaunty synth bassline reminded us of all-time classic "Sueno Latino", and "Checkmate" is no doubt capable of soliciting the same kind of boisterous response when dropped at the right time. Cinthie delivers the first remix, opting for a polished but groovy deep house interpretation, before Steve Rachmad places Chandler's bold piano riffs atop a crunchy techno rhythm track with predictably impressive results.

Review: There's been a fair bit of hype surrounding Cody Currie's first appearance on Secret Reels, and it's not hard to see why. Like the producer's previous EPs on Pusic, Better Listen and Razor 'N' Tape reserve, Peach Fuzz is full of languid, sun-kissed, heart-warming deep house goodness. We're particularly enjoying the bustling thrust of "Prologue", where wild jazz-funk style synth solos wrap themselves around a driving jazz-house groove, though the funk-driven, sample-heavy warmth of "Woman" and bouncy, flute-laden disco-house shuffler "Urlaub Kommt" both push it close. Speaking of disco-house, title track "Peach Fuzz" has "future peak-time anthem" written all over it.

  3. Woman For A Day (Clandestino Dessert Trance remix)
Review: We have been patiently waiting for Pele to crop up on a release from the footy mad Rothmans, and what a time to play that card! Rothmans is back once again with his Aussie teammate Dawn Again, supported by a first appearance from Leeds legends Clandestino. EP opener 'Cobblejam' is nothing short of first class, a worthy and chugging Italo powerhouse that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. The B-side finds us with the strangely named 'Woman For A Day', though there's nothing strange about the track itself, a deep and dark cut that slowly drives forward into the abyss. Finishing off the record is an excellent remix from the lads over at Clandestino, their 'Dessert Trance' vibe brings the record together as sweetly as Pele brought together that 1970 World Cup Winning team.

Review: Since the launch of their 17 Steps label in 2015, the Dusky releases have come thick and fast. Able to put out whatever they want, whenever they want, the experienced duo has delivered a series of well-received EPs packed with original productions and/or headline grabbing remixes. In truth, as good as these were, few were quite as big as this sizeable three-tracker. A-side cut "Square Miso" - a peak-time anthem in the making full of thunderous drums, thrusting analogue bass, cut-up female vocal samples and life-affirming piano riffs - is particularly notable, while the "Reprise" of the same cut strips back some of the drums and emphasizes the wide-eyed piano riffs for extra dancefloor pleasure.

Review: Debuts all round as young Swiss producer Ecar makes his bow on the freshly minted Royalties Rates Recordings label. It's an EP that not only shows great promise, but also contains a string of club-ready jams. He's in re-edit mode on the A-side, putting a house rocket underneath and woozy, synth-laden disco jam ("Diana", whose cascading synth solos are sublime), before delivering a throbbing, pitched-up version of a Quincy Jones produced electrofunk slammer. On the flip, you'll find more bustling, synth-heavy peak-time fare in the shape of acid-flecked stomper "Untitled Wave" and a wide-eyed, piano-sporting anthem seemingly inspired by rave-era warehouse jams.

Review: Marlon Hoffstadt is a Berlin based producer who's sure come a long way since his debut on local labels Stil Vor Talent and Keno; he now heads up the Retrograde and Midnight Themes imprints. For the new label of UK music website Ransom Note, he presents some lush retro referencing house on the Observing The Known EP. Starting off with the classic acid house vibe of "Floating" which is reminiscent of 808 State, we've then got the bouncy neon-lit sound of "ARP+" which gets a very Jamal Moss sounding remix on the flip by London based Scott Fraser (Crimes Of The Future). The balearic/tropical vibe continues on the sun-kissed and blissed out "Batavus" and we particularly enjoyed that chunky Juno bassline throughout.

Review: When the admirable Jazz & Milk label launched its 12" Jams series last month, it was with an EP that brought together label boss Dusty and long-time pal Sam IRL. For volume two, the latter has gone solo. In many ways, "You Don't Feel Enough" is an echo from the past, featuring as it does skipping, West London style broken beats, raw analogue bass and some killer jazz-funk instrumentation. Yet that style has been making a comeback in recent times, and the track has a similar vibe to recent EPs from Kaidi Tatham, Dego and the rest of the 2000 Black crew. On the flipside, German heavyweights Session Victim deliver their interpretation, which re-casts the track as a drowsy and jazzy chunk of wavy deep house.

Review: One could argue that Joe, the enigmatic producer from London (we think!), has been partly responsible for Hessle Audio's continues success but, most importantly, for the label's off-kilter approach. This latter point has meant that Hessle Audio has never stuck too closely to one genre and, instead, appealed to the wider electronic gamut, from the bass-heads to the house-jockies. He's back with an impenetrable two-tracker coloured in lime green; "Tail Lift" dominates the A-side with a strong, full-bodied house groove that's been filtered with all sorts of jungle sounds and tribal influences while, on the flipside, "MPH" is Joe focussing on our pure experimentation - broken jungle breaks, oddball synth bleeps and classic piano house keys merge to create something truly unexpected. It's Joe. On Hessle.

Review: Norway b2b Canada part three: LNS and Wania boss Sotofett collaborate for the third time this year with the mystical odyssey that is "Missed Connection". Long-breath pads, snake-like FX and a deep breeze atmosphere wrap around the steady kicks lapping persistently to create a wave-like sensation, it's a great landing from the dizzying highs of their last collaborative composition "Jugando Con Fuego". For a more hypnotic experience, flip for the tribal mix where a tightly-weaved percussive roll provides more of a mesmerising sense of momentum. Connection made.

Review: Having spent the last 12 months sharpening his disco credentials via a variety of re-edit EPs and sample-heavy "secret weapons", Medlar is back on Wolf doing what he does best. In this case, that means sparse, drum machine driven electro/proto house fusion ("Cascinari"), delay-heavy, stripped-back analogue house blessed with dreamy chords and grime style lo-fi synth-strings ("Nisantasi") and Ruf Dug style dancefloor sweetness seemingly created using forgotten old synthesizers, dusty drum machines and a solitary TB-303 ("Priet"). Excitingly, the EP's final track - a bustling fusion of beatbox electro rhythms, layered breakbeats, heavy bass and yearning chords - is a studio hook-up with similarly well-regarded producer FYI Chris.

And everything Baaz's Berlin-based label puts out has a great deal of detail invested in it and always requires attention. This is no exception as the mysterious vibe maestro takes us from warm, jazz-tinged chugging deep house to cascading aquatic ambience that bubbles and pops dreamily via fuzzy, springy downtempo. Who knows who's behind this masterpiece? Maybe One Day we'll find out...

Review: The third volume in the Dance 2017 series is notable for featuring the first collaborative production from Giles Smith and James Priestley under the Secretsundaze moniker. Given that they delivered their first combined mix CD some ten years ago, "Motorway" has been a long time coming. It's also rather good, offering a hypnotic and wide-eyed blend of urgent, 128 BPM percussion, car horn style synth stabs, heavy bass and swirling string loops. It's not exactly Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" for the tech-house generation, but we sense the Robots would approve. Less surprising is Palm Trax's "Outflight", a positive and melodious chunk of synthesizer-heavy deep house goodness full of new age melodies, darting synth-bass and crunchy drum machine hits.

Review: Having been impressed by his fine EPs on In Paris and Renascence, Lobster Theremin has invited Pepe to join the family. Lemon Fanta, his debut for the lauded London imprint, could well be his musically adventurous and hard-to-pigeonhole 12" to date. Check, for example, A-side "Rainfall (Part I & II)", a wonderfully luscious and loved-up deep house epic full of rush-inducing piano notes, swirling electronics, xylophone style melodies and loose, off-kilter hand percussion. The deliciously sweet and sugary title track sounds like a tooled-up contemporary take on dream house classic "Sueno Latino", while "Benzine Electronics" is a dewy-eyed drift through deep house/electro fusion with more than a few nods towards hazy Balearica.

Side B "Good Groove" is a black & white track, It has the feel of the early Bouge & Shuffle track that came out on Olivier's Straight Up label, deep & groovy elements, 16 bit samples & keeping it four to the floor. Good Groove is sure to be a classic, one for the true heads & the P4TC collective.

Review: It has been a long time between drinks for former Soul Jazz Records regular Secondo. Shakin appears almost five years to the day since his last outing on Whataboutnow, the low profile label he established in 2011. On the A-side, he reaches for the synths and glistening guitar solos on a loopy house jam that sounds like it was built out of loops taken from an obscure and overlooked mid-80s Balearic pop B-side. B-side "9 Toms" inhabits similar sonic territory, with the Swiss producer seemingly crafting more sunny, dewy-eyed, loop-house gold out of discarded bits of a 1980s blue-eyed soul song. If Tiger and Woods dug for soft focus sample fare rather than synth-laden electrofunk, it would probably sound like this.

Review: Everything is pointed in the right direction for UK duo Senzala. Championed by Richie Ahmed and recently affiliated with Catz N Dogz Pets crew, here we find them touching down on exciting new wax-only German stable Downhill with a hefty shimmering slice of deep dubby house. Timeless, textured and lucid in its variation and development it's another sterling, understated cut from the duo. "Skyline" is a touched more restrained again; warm and persistent with organs, the real groove is found in the creeping, rising pads that build subtly throughout. Remix-wise Paolo Rocco ups the drum presence on "Bau" while DJ Honesty adds a little classic Jersey swing to "Skyline". Grab it while it's hot.

Retreat label boss Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling of Giegling fame have been at it as Session Victim for the better part of 10 years and they're still in fine form. The third instalment of Listen To Your Heart features four splendid journeys into the deep. Starting off with the lo-slung disco loops of "Almost Midnight" on the A side, which is followed up by the sun-kissed/slo-mo balearica of "Castle For Sale". On the flip, they pick up the pace once again with "Almost Midnight" which showcases the classic SV sound: deep house from a hip-hop production style of technique which no doubt influenced a new generation of German producers such as Glenn Astro & Max Graef. Finally, recline, relax and light one up to the dubbed out ambient journey that is "Thermal Explorer".

Review:  A year after he helped launch the label via the brilliant "The Fatal Flaw In Disco" 12", Mark Seven returns to Ari Goldman's World Building label. As you might expect, he's once again in a retro-futurist frame of mind, laying down a series of house tracks inspired by the style's glory days of the late '80s and early '90s. He first doffs a cap towards bouncy New Jersey deep house from the turn of the '90s ("Chapter II: Enter This House"), before wrapping Chicago style analogue bass and fluid electronics around a sweaty, Kenny Dope inspired rhythm track. "Chapter VII: Salvation" is a smooth and loved-up tribute to the Burrell Brothers and Dream II Science, while closer "Helping Hand" is pleasingly deep and dreamy.

The record is inspired by several trips to dope parties in the District of Columbia, home of the quickly rising label Better Listen Records. Starting off with the the lo-slung disco deepness of "Sweetiez Fresh", it's a dusty and looped up jam that will appeal to fans of the Robsoul sound. On the flip, things take a well funkier and more soulful turn with that familiar vocal on "The Assassinator" and finally things end on a groovy and sun kissed note with the slo-mo/hip-hop inspired boogie of "XDC". Real name Scott Moncrieff, he's appeared previously on a who's who of labels such as Delusions Of Grandeur, Kolour LTD and Classic in recent times.

Review: Soulful hip-hop beat-maker Waajeed's transformation into a Detroit deep house star continues apace, with the former Slum Village man's second EP for Dirt Tech Reck in as many months. He begins by doffing a cap to Theo and Moodymann on "Get Down", a shuffling, warm and dreamy workout full of rich disco bass, twinkling electric piano keys, gentle vocal samples and layered hand percussion. Confirmed summer jam "Through it All" is a breezy, string-laden bastion of piano-heavy positivity complete with bustling analogue bass and "Strings of Life" style solos, while B-side "Kingdom" sits somewhere between crunchy Chicago house, gospel and lilting Motor City deepness. Yes, please!

Review: If you were judging Kieran Hebden's 11th Four Tet studio album merely on the way it's presented, you'd immediately think he'd spent the last two years immersed in early '90s ambient house albums. While it's unlikely he's done that, it's fair to say that New Energy does owe a debt to classic electronica sets from that period. For all the exotic instrumentation and subtle nods to post-dubstep "aquacrunk" experimentalism and chiming, head-in-the-clouds sunrise house, the album feels like a relic of a lost era. That's not meant as a criticism - New Energy is superb - but it is true that his choice of neo-classical strings, gentle new age melodies, sweeping synthesizer chords and disconnected vocal samples would not sound out of place on a Global Communication album.

Review: Prolific Japanese producer Kuniyuki Takahashi has long been renowned as one of house music's most enthusiastic collaborators, so it seems fitting that his latest album is made up entirely of joint productions. It's a blueprint that guarantees a string of successes, from the jammed-out afro-funk of "Groove Chase" (which is also reinvented by co-producer DJ Nature as a broken jazz-funk bomb) and loose, languid jazziness of "Session North No. 1 (Vakula Version)", to the synth-laden jazz-funk brilliance of "Moving Minds" (a hook-up with K15) and the musically rich deep house bliss of Jimpster collaboration "Kalima's Dance". The latter is also given the remix treatment by DJ Sprinkles, whose sublime version is naturally deeper than the Pacific.

Review: Over the last few years, Kele Okereke has balanced his Bloc Party commitments with the pursuit of a solo career. Previously, that has largely meant exploring his love of house and techno via releases on Crosstown Rebels. For debut album Fatherland, he's decided to flip the script, partnering up with Freaks man Justin Harris to deliver a set of beautiful and musically rich songs smothered in strings, acoustic instrumentation and, most notably, the distinctive sound of British brass band music. For the most part it's a delicate and picturesque affair, albeit one that occasionally tips a wink towards gospel, soul, Rotary Connection and "Sgt Pepper"-era Beatles. In other words, it's a very mature and grown-up proposition, full of introspective songs beautifully delivered by Okereke.

Review: Although not as celebrated as many of his Motor City contemporaries, Norm Talley has been a key figure on the Detroit deep house scene for the best part of 25 years. Here he presents his debut album, a set that appears exactly 20 years on from the release of his debut 12". It's a largely warm, rich and inviting affair, with Talley combining samples from classic disco, soul and boogie jams with his own drums, keys and chords. The results are uniformly superb, with highlights including the beatdown style hypnotism of "Dub Station", the disco-house bounce of "Alright", the deep and percussive dreaminess of "Earth Vibrations" and the brilliantly jazzy "Paradise Garage", where Talley cuts-up killer electric piano solos over a sumptuous, jazz-funk inspired house groove.
