Review: Starting 2020 like they mean to go on, West London's 2000 Black crew serves up an essential four-tracker created during jam sessions between regular collaborators Kaidi Tatham, Akwasi Mensah, Matt Lord and Dennis "Dego" McFarlane (Ranks). As with their previous collaborative releases, its' four tracks variously join the dots between deep house, bruk, jazz-funk and mellower flavours. As usual, the beats are tight and weighty, the musicianship exceptional (Kaidi's keys-playing being a particular highlight), the chords deep and the lead lines memorable. While all four tracks are excellent, our picks are the rubbery bruk-up bliss of "Return of Pastor Shadrach" and the sun-kissed broken house warmth of "Life After Subway".

Review: There is a very loveable retro soul feel to this new package of trad house sounds from Steal Vybe & Lamone. It takes the form of a The Heatwave classic that has been all remade and flipped into a slightly more contemporary cut but one that will still make a big mark on the old school crew. The instrumental is a real gem but it's the soaring vocals and funky baselines of the original that are sure to get plenty of hammer under the sun this summer, especially the irresistible boogie mix. Review: Let There Be House welcome Queen B and Lee Wilson for a big and soulful new single here that spans all eras of house music. The six-minute 'Nobody Else,' is built on a knotted bassline that never lets up. The silky drums call to mind Kings of Tomorrow and the timeless diva vocal up top is never going to age. Review: Z Records' ongoing 'Attack The Dancefloor 'series of compilation style vinyl EPs has long been a reliable source of disco-fired excellence, and this 21st edition is another high-quality affair. We're first treated to a superb Jimpster revision of recent Mistura single 'Want Me Back', where Jemini's spoken word vocal, jazzy keys and spacey synth sounds rise above loose-limbed deep house beats and wiggly TB-303 lines, before Birdee drops a genuinely joyous, organic-sounding disco-house take on 1991 classic 'Do What You Feel' (now credited to Joey Montenegro, rather than his now retired Joey Negro alias). Elsewhere, Lee's own rework of Lakeshore Commission's Bluey collaboration 'In The Light' is a smooth, soulful, string-drenched delight and the veteran producer's 'Destination Boogie' tweak of Destiny II's 'Play To Win' is a revivalist '80s electrofunk delight.

Review: After the first pressing sold out in quick time back in August, LA producer Luxury has done the right thing and opted to repress this collection of reworks. So, if you're after a touch of dancefloor opulence, this series in which he breathes new life into everything from yacht disco gems to platinum-selling rock anthems could be for you. The producer is in good form on volume five, variously offering up a swirling, gently dubbed-out and pleasingly Balearic take on a pop rock favourite ('Into The Future'), a throbbing revision of a poodle perm-sporting synth-pop/soft rock anthem ('Burn Burn Burn') and a chunky, tactile, disco-tinged, soft-focus re-imagining of the George Michael-esque ('Tonight'). Naturally, all are tastefully executed and add more than enough low-end weight to please contemporary dancefloors.

The Special Character Peaky Renip remix is a chord-heavy take on the original, while the original 2010 Secret version is a more electro-oriented interpretation. This reissue, then, is long overdue. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the deep and chunky groves, tight organ stabs and eyes-closed spoken word snippets of 'Instrumorgan 1 (Doc J Club Mix)', and the deeper, crunchier and more bass-heavy throb of 'Instrumorgan 2 (Fede's Mix)', to the jacking, drum machine-driven looseness of 'Instrumorgan 3 (Chicaho Mix)', where a lo-fi synth-sax motif adds an extra dose of late-night energy.

Review: Hardrock Striker's Stay Underground, It Pays label may be more intermittent these days, but when they drop a record it really counts for something. This latest drop comes from Luise, a resident DJ at Hannover club Weltspiele, who knows a thing or two about legit deep house for the heads. Her tracks have a timeless quality which shows she's schooled in the trade, knowing exactly the kind of understated flair to make a dancefloor track truly pop. Lucious' far-sighted blend of soulful house, new jack swing and what us Brits would call street soul comes to the fore on opener "Let The Feelin' - Turn You Out", a stripped-back, synth-heavy chunk of deep house-soul, and on the much more upbeat club cut "What Does It Take". It can also be heard, too, on delicious flipside opener "I Like It", where Lucious' layered vocals ride a tactile, lo-fi deep house groove. Our pick of the bunch though is sumptuously slow closing cut "Try My Love", which is much closer in tone to street soul.

Review: Lu-Fuki has dipped into his vaults to dig for treasure and boy has he found it. This lush EP draws together some brilliantly dusty deep house and seductively lo-fi hip hop onto one crucial 12" that is limited to just 100 copies. The nagging chords and melancholic bass of 'Cameron' sinks you into a reflective mood from the off then 'Hum' explores Theo Parrish-style realness and rawness. 'Untitled' is a short and sketchy skit and 'November' seduces with its busted beats. 'Fast Action' is all off-gird hits and daubs of synth and then there is romance in the air on 'Ta Teasha Love'.

Review: The always-smiling Soichi Terada is a master of Japanese house music as well as being a fine video game soundtrack designer who brings unbridled synth and piano-laced joy to his sounds. His collab with Manabu Nagayama, 'Low Tension', is the subject of the A-side here with deep house don Jimpster remixing first with all the joyous synth energy of a new spring day and then with a Beatless Reprise that allows you to marvel at the magnificent keys. On the flip, Nick Holder's In The Six remix brings some smoky depths to Luyo's 'Shanee' while a KEENE Venao 7am remix of 'Celestial' is the exact tune you want to hear at sun up.

"Want You In My Soul" is a mix of old and new, where disco percussion and cosmic synths nestle alongside a mid tempo house groove with plenty of warmth.
