Goldfinger (4:53)
Silverware (6:08)
Review: Long time mates but first time collaborators, Ago and Boofy link up for this exception doublet on Innamind. Two sides, two very different vibes; 'Goldfinger' is all about that spacious dubby stalk and prowl. Laced with all manner of trippy textures, it's already been a major missile at Innamind's recent bashes with System. Flip for something more of a post UKG flavour; the rattling upbeat 'Silverware'. Brash skippy drums and heaving emotions - this is already a massive tune. Grab it while you can!

BAR Theme (Wolf Muller remix) (5:56)
Anjali Reverse (Pharaohs remix) (5:59)
Dexy's Alrobe (Orson remix) (5:36)
Adios (Diva remix) (7:12)
Review: Italic has been representing the electronic scene in Cologne and surrounding areas since before the turn of the century, playing house to stylistically ambiguous outfits such as Kreidler, Stabil Elite and the many different projects of Stefan Schwander. Last year saw Italic usher in the BAR project of Stabil Elite's Lucas Croon and Christina Irrgang, with their self-titled LP turning out a sharply informed blend of new wave, synth pop and the finest in German kosmische traditions. To accompany the album, Italic have called on a cast of artists specifically split between Dusseldorf and Los Angeles to remix BAR. Pharoahs take "Anjali Reverse" and turn it into a gently lilting Balearic vignette, while noted German dubstepper Orson nudges "Dexy's Alrobe" into a spacious half-step chiller. Diva Dompe, daughter of Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins no less, creates a bewitching version of "Adios" that sounds beamed straight out of Sunday morning, but for pure flair and unmistakable groove Wolf Muller's take on "BAR Theme" has us especially excited!

Rollercoasters Of The Heart
So Cruel
Review: After seriously impressing with the debut sounds of Andy Mac last time round, Bristol imprint Punch Drunk step it up a notch further with this monumental release from Bass Clef. The local hero turned Hackney import graces our shelves with his first release in 2011 and it's totally been worth the wait, unveiling the rather glorious sounds of "Rollercoasters Of The Heart". There's an undeniably throwback nod to the euphoric days of rave gone by thanks to the swirls of lysergia tinged stabs and stretched out vox, but it's how Bass Clef marries them to a crisp groove of rolling sub bass and crisp off kilter house drums that has us hooked. Complementing this, "So Cruel" brings the mood down markedly, revolving around a half time swagger and bouncing subs dipped in purple menace which are the perfect foil for the requisite looped up chanteuse. It's the searing synth flourishes that jettison through the track without announcement that lift "So Cruel" to somewhere near the title track in our affections.

Jetliner
Review: Having already graced Copenhagen's TEAL imprint twice before with their deep, hybrid sound of dubstep and minimal D&B, the producer returns with a sampler offering a taste of what to expect from their debut album Fictitious Nostalgia. "Wait For Me" sees a collaboration with singer Alia Fresco, its soulful textures are reminiscent of the producer's debut release "Syncopy", seeing half stepping rhythms joined with lush acoustic textures. The track is joined by two tracks exclusive to the compilation; "UL90" employs a darker tone, with Autonomic-style D&B rhythms joined by deep, tunnelling subs, while "Jetliner" sees gaseous synth textures joined by some thick bass stabs and weighty organic drums. As with previous Beastie Respond releases, it's an impressive collection of forward thinking dubstep.

Review: Bengal Sound is a rising star in the Bristol bass scene and now he makes another mighty fine statement with this two tracker on Wych, the increasingly essential label run by K-LONE. This one comes after his various standout tunes from self-released cassettes fusing dusty old Bollywood samples to red hot club bangers. 'Solace' is the opener and is heavy on the rubbing and cavernous bass with icy leads and on the flip is 'On My Mind' which is just as atmospheric.

Review: Fresh in the chem trails of his Bandulu release, the inimitable Bengal Sound crash lands back into our psyches with his disarming, not-of-this-world take on 140 music. "Young Skeleton" arrives just in time for Halloween, scaring the dickens out of us with its warped humanised tones, dusty atmospheres and distant chimes. "Coroners" takes us from the graveyard to the morgue... But with these hazy arpeggiated trinkles and eerie shimmers are we stepping towards the light or simply waking up? That's for you to work out.

The Core
The Prey
Review: While the cover artwork may make Benton look like a moody former member of an R&B boy band, the music contained on Reflections is as robustly underground as you'd expect. Moving from Burial-ish paranoid atmospherics to deep dubstep-soul via a series of sparse, moody and emotion-rich soundscapes, it portrays the London-based producer as a man for whom the simple pleasures of form and function are just not enough. Along the way, there are growling, murky floorfillers (check the hissing "Herman's Hideout" and "Defect Mind"), dubwise steppers ("20/20 VIP") and occasional blasts of piano-laden beauty (the intricate "We're Both Lost").

BBS Madness
Review: **REPRESS** Kicking off a self-motivated label as a vessel for his up-to-the-minute beats, Benton follows up releases for Box Clever and Black Box with this razor-sharp distillation of old skool rave touches and tight modern production. "The Callin" works around a tense break triggered at a teasing angle to keep the groove limber at all times, although unafraid to melt away into blissed out chords at the appropriate juncture. "Airtight" rides on a similar rhythmic roll, although the atmospherics spell this one out as an overall darker concern. "BBS Madness" lets a little techno bleed into the frame with an even more taut deployment of forthright drum hooks that cross neatly through a multitude of styles in what should make for a prime crossover cut.

Review: German producer Bhed takes charge of the ninth EP on the vital Trusik label. His mastery of ambient, dub, techno depths and bass weight are all present and correct here, never more so than on the fantastic opener "Eighteenhundred". Taking up the whole of one side of wax, it is more than deserving of that indulgence as it slowly trips through floating pads, icy hi hats and supple rhythms that soothe the mind, body and soul. "Apatheia" is a more edgy track which is just as cavernous but has you looking over your shoulder, and closing cut "East" is a pure and dreamy dub beauty.

Review: Patrick Holt aka Biome returns to Dubstep For Deep Heads with a raucous three-tracker! Although categorised as a dubstep producer, Biome is really much more than that and his tracks contain a distinctive air of tribalism, where percolating percussion meets prophetic chanting. "Constant", for example, sees the producer blending waves of acoustic instruments together with broken beats, while "Hold On" takes a 4 Hero kinda beat and spins it around gorgeous atmospherics and stripped-down low-ends. Review: Manchester-based producer Biome has been cultivating his own distinct brand of pummelling, stripped-back minimalist dubstep for over six years now, gaining plaudits and accolades for his 12" output on labels such as Osiris, Black Box and Macabre Unit. The Cromos EP represents Biome's label debut for the mighty Tempa and brandishes a triptet of tracks that really showcase the full range of the producer's sound. Final track "Delta" is an undoubted highlight, a real vicious exercise in achieving the maximum pressure from the minimum of elements with little more than hard, brusque and broken rhythms and deadly bass utilised.

Review: It's becoming more and more apparent throughout 2012 that Biome isn't human. He's a blooming machine! There's not been a month this year when he hasn't delivered at least one deep, pensive slice of darkness, be it on Macabre Unit, Smokin Sessions, Osiris or New Moon. Back on the ever-reliable Blackbox he's served up something of a bumper package. Five tracks in total, his balance of stark atmospherics and gruff subs is in full effect. The delicate shades of piano and synth-laced light of "Inner Mind", the subtle croaks and groans of the EP's title track "Two Way", the intricate tribal drum patterns and woozy pads of "First Light"... Biome's production line is running more efficiently than ever. Machine music has never sounded so good.

Review: Biome's at the top of his game with this new EP on Deep, Dark & Dangerous, which is the label's first of the year. It's a masterclass in dark dubstep wizardry that is expertly put together across four compelling tunes. Opener 'The Joker' is a haunting tune with a whispered vocal and cavernous grooves. The icy hits are to die for and the low end wobble is irresistible. 'Boxed' then gets heavy with more crashing hits and fizzing, dystopian synths. There is plenty of weight in 'Monster' and its poised drums and big drops and last of all 'Never Listen' is a fine example of tension and release that keeps you locked.

"Aurora Borealis" twinkles with every bit of space-gazing charm as you'd hope while "The Perfect Knowledge" is a defiant march into the unknown driven by a persistent slo-mo techno riff and Clockwork Orange synth orchestral dramatics. "Magnetic Field VIP" is an industrial strength update on his 2013 Paradise Lost cut while "Impedance" brings the story full circle with tumbling organic-feeling drums and a house-like bassline that bounces relentlessly. Bussing up the groove into something much chunkier, rolling and heavyweight, Compa celebrates the elements of the original by bringing them into the fore over a deep rumbling groove that ploughs with modern dub momentum and opens into the vocal with precision timing. Review: Recent releases have shown DFA to be as unexpected as they've always been when selecting remixers; Factory Floor saw their work ripped apart and put back together again by Helena Hauff whilst Paul Woolford was invited to work his magic on label mainstay Shit Robot. This latest DFA 12" pulls together two previously digi only singles from new signing Dan Bodan for the vinyl hungry label completists out there. To the uninitiated, Bodan is a highly tipped Berlin-based singer, songwriter whose productions sound like Arthur Russell doing modern R&B. Of most interest here is the remix of "Anonymous" from White Material co-founder DJ Richard which is similarly sparse, reducing the vocals to mere whispers and coating everything in brooding industrial textures. Do check the flipside Stadium Mix, which is according to DFA is "common shorthand for an amazing producer/remixer we are not allowed to mention for some reason".

Sir Spyro has some filthy bass at the forefront of his playful reworking of "Silo Pass", while the horns get teased in the appropriate places to great effect. Bulbous, in fact, thanks to its array of obese subs that wriggle and worm beneath the stark, spiked out string stabs, each one overlapping each other with menace. "Banshee" is even fatter again as we're treated to a whole series of basses, each one shouting loudly, eager for our attention as more dagger-like drums heave and weave amidst the dynamic. Here he's inaugurating Higher Level with some absolute dance slayers, kicking off with the mammoth pitched-down drum funk and gut-wrenching bass of "Razor" before switching stance for the dreamier but no less rowdy "Predators." This ninth outing is no less desirable, coming from the in house production team in collaboration with Breakfake. 'Life In Stereo' hits a perfect note between kinetic drums and soulful, jazzy chords deigned to melt the heart. "Freakshow" matches the leering delivery of Danny Brown with the sinister croon of King Midas Sound's Kiki Hitomi over a horn-laden trap swagger to devastating effect. Nevertheless, it's home to Bukkha, a producer whose floor-friendly dubstep releases are shot through with high-grade dub reggae influences. "Ruling Sound", featuring the slick and soulful vocals of Junior Dread, is a perfect example. It's effectively a dubstep/steppers reggae fusion, and a very good one at that. The producer's love of original dub can be heard loud and clear on the accompanying "Ruling Dub", which beefs up the sub-bass whilst ramping up the reverb, delay and tape echo. The flipside TMSV Remix, which boasts crunchier, jungle-influenced breakbeats and even weightier sub-bass, is also pretty nifty.

Come Down To Us
Review: After a decidedly silent 2013 Burial is back on Hyperdub with a new single that points to pastures new for the stealthy producer. "Rival Dealer" is sure to polarize opinion as it takes a positively unexpected route into hardcore breaks, static interference, all manner of oddball speech samples, diversions and switches in dynamics, and a willfully grainy production finish that borders on punk. Depending on where you choose to dive into the ten-minute track the experience could be very different; experiencing it in full is nothing short of a rollercoaster. "Hiders" too is full of surprises, more indebted to pop balladry than anything remotely garage related, and the emotive croon and swooning piano is only magnified by a Yazoo-esque drum stomp at the midway point. "Come Down To Us" is equally heartfelt, all slow release vocals and languid chords yet constantly fractured at the edges, with yet more surprising turns of bombast waiting in the wings over thirteen minutes.

Rough Sleeper
Review: *Burial Repress* The double header of Truant/Rough Sleeper is the second EP from Burial in 2012, and arrives with as little fanfare as the superb Kindred EP did early this year. Unlike that more dancefloor focused record however, this EP harks back to the producer's earlier sound. Of course, being two longform compositions clocking in at 12 and 14 minutes respectively, they're hardly conventional works; each utilises the same liberal use of spectral atmospheres, emotive vocal samples, hollow 2-step beats and nods to jungle as we've come to expect from the producer, but with complex structures that come across more like two sides of an old mixtape recorded from a pair of decrepit turntables. Of course being a mixtape from Burial, this is special stuff indeed - consider it an early Christmas present to yourself.

Superfly (remix) (3:31)
Review: The rise of trap and grime onto the world stage has feedback into the dubstep world and made the once dead scene fertile once more. Proof of that should you need it comes in the form of this powerful new one track offering from Burst. 'Superfly' is all skittish drum hits, wubbing low ends and tripped out melodies that refract like a pin ball machine. Spoken words vocals add the grime element up top and then on the flip comes a remix. This one is built on drilling bass and future chords.

Chad Dubz - "Nilaari" (4:26)
Chad Dubz & Biome - "455" (DJ Madd remix) (4:40)
Review: For the latest volume in FatKidOnFire's vinyl series, boss man Will Benton has handed over the reins to Foundation Audio founder Chad Smit AKA Chad Dubz, a producer who can usually be relied on the deliver the sub-heavy goods. He begins by joining forces with Biome on '455', a laidback but weighty slab of punishing dubstep creepiness, before uniting with Eddy Seven on a fine fusion of bassline style warped bass and crunchy post-dubstep beats ('Strictly'). He goes solo on 'Nilaari', an aggressive and angry slab of dancefloor dubstep peppered with 8-bit electronics, before DJ Madd delivers a sparse, stripped-back and insanely sub-heavy re-wire of '455'.

Review: It's now five up for the Pearly Whites crew and their self titled series of on going various artist's collections. This one kicks off with the slow and heavy sounds of Deseplate's 'One Day' before the flute laced, jazz-tinged and stoner delights of Boss Mischief's 'Ice Cold.' There are more fuel good and heady sounds with lush flues from Invader Spade then Drone gets more dark and gritty on 'Lil Jug.' Lemzly Dale and BR3 close out this superb mix of trap, grime and dubstep.

Various Beats From Sublime Artists Vol I

Derivate - "All My Homies Clappin'"
Beto Narme - "Let's Get In On"
Gantz - "Soul Is A Lie"
Stiver - "Bergamo"
Review: Istanbul's Sublime Porte describe themselves as a team of creative individuals, and what began initially as a net label back in 2008 has latterly blossomed into the physical realm. Sublime Porte's output has been inspired by various strands of electronic music, but it's the hardcore continuum that dominates proceedings on the split release Various Beats From Sublime Artists Vol.I 12". Derivate opens proceedings with "All My Homies Clappin," an effervescent exercise in Bass music that has the sort of musicality you would find on an Eglo B Side, whilst the spirit of Marvin Gaye is mixed up with murky basslines and swung rhythms on Beto Narme's contribution. Face down "Soul Is A Lie" finds Gantz in introspective mood and Stiver's final cut "Bergamo" has a touch of the Autonomics about it.

Dusk - "Focus" (Blackdown VIP)
Ex-Swing
Review: It's been a long time since Dusk & Blackdown committed themselves to a release proper, and they're doing so now on their own Keysound imprint. Kicking off with "High Road", which features a guest contribution from Burial, the atmosphere is a spooky one that employs smatterings of mournful vocal over a pacey rhythm and an immersive tapestry of sounds and samples that keep the track dynamic and ever-engaging despite its surface minimalism. "Focus VIP" is a more forthright affair, still drenched in drama but with a propulsive groove and lashings of strings, rousing details and a mean Reese bass line. That leaves it "Ex-Swing" to chuck the beat out of leftfield in a snappy 2-step reduction that maximizes on stop-start impact at the end of each bar.

Hal Grover - "Carlotta's Dream" (Orbit mix) (8:01)
B+A+D - "Moon, Sea & Waves" (8:10)
Review: Thew newly minted Newmont label makes a bold statement of intent here with a pair of no nonsense tracks. Hal Grover's 'Carlotta's Dream' comes as an Orbit mix - which may or may not be a reference to the seminal Morley techno night of the same name - and it voyages to outer space on tightly woven breaks, with smeared pads and a melancholic bassline ON the flip side, things slow right down in the hands of B+A+D -for their 'Moon, Sea & Waves.' It's spacious, heavyweight and eerie with coarse hits and far sighted pads.

Kromestar - "Another Day" (4:14)

Biome - "Night Flight" (4:18)
Josh Vishnu - "Truth" (4:55)
Review: The Deep Heads crew comes through with a first sampler from their third volume of Deep Heads Dubstep cuts. It's another one all about heavy bass and heady atmospheres and another one that proves that dubstep can still be a vital sound when done right. Kromestar opens with 'Another Day' and its dreamy space synths, then 'Congi' cooks up lurching beats and lunging chords for a lovely late night vibe. Biome's 'Night Flight' is an exquisitely programmed drum work out that floats in mid-air and Josh Vishnu closes down this fine EP with the darker mood and cavernous bass of 'Truth'.

Lostlojic & Bisweed - "Will Be"
Review: After much delay (and anticipation here at Juno) the excellent Millions of Moment label finally unveils its UK leaning offshoot - cunningly titled Millions Of Moments UK - with the first of two twelves of music from Eastern Europe that are clearly influenced by the post Burial swing. Estonian Bisweed shares the billing with Ukrainian Lostlojic, and it's the latter's "Emptiness" which kicks off proceedings via a remix from the Russian artist Rush'd - there's an undeniable quality to the way the clipped rhythms float into silence and back. Bisweed's "Falling" is a worthy A Side companion, as rigid bass hits roll out with aplomb to a backdrop of ethereal keys and chimed atmospherics, and it's the subtle twists in direction that really impress upon repeat listen. The flip sees Lostlojic and Bisweed contribute two collaborations that sit perfectly alongside the sound of UK talent such as Koreless - with "The Overworld" showing a particular skill for deviating between shimmering melodic light and richly crafted darkness, whilst the dramatised orchestrations of title track "Will Be" are wrapped around a percussive flex reminiscent of Untold.

Review: Dub maestro Mala joins forces with prominent British writer, dub poet and Rastafarian Benjamin Zephaniah and Natty for this heavy hitting, hand-stamped 12". "I'm a bad man anyway, this is my sound" says Zephaniah with real passion as spaced out pads and delicate chords soften his battle cry, and his musings on the black man's struggle, righteousness and Rastafarianism play out in absorbing fashion. Best believe this one is going to become a real cult favourite, not least because of the exceptional sound design and sense of space inherent in any Mala tune.

Bouncy vibes rule the roost on the A Side original cut as Brother Culture lets rip with a heartfelt sermon with his distinctive gruff melodicism. Need to up the ante? Flip for the dub remix from HOT and submerse yourself in sea of timeless jungle. Heaving with amen action, it's testament to HOT's breadth and badness. Keep the fire burning!
