  1. Melchester Acid (part 3)

  3. Emotinium
  4. Home Game Acid (edit)
  5. Away Game Acid (edit)
Review: After long lust, Roy's mega anthem Emotinium finally gets re-released into the wild, following its original inclusion on the lo-fi Acid Waxa cassette classic 2 Late 4 Love + the much sought after 12" EP version released in 2016. This time however, Emo finds itself playing up-front alongside the previously unreleased Melchester Acid Pt. 3 + two wonderful raw studio jams (Home & Away Game Acid) If Emotinium is the cute & cuddly festival fave played by the likes of Aphex Twin & Feel My Bicep et al, then Shirley this bonus disc of mutant acids are the evil Gremlin offspring, fed & watered after midnight; bubbling, fizzing, hissing and multiplying. 'It's been a rough night for Rockin' Ricky, but he's still on the air!'

Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Cat: RSO 01. Rel: 01 Aug 21

Review: Throughout his lengthy career, Steve O'Sullivan has proved adept at delivering "proper techno" tracks that are a cut above those of his contemporaries. He's at it again here on a pleasingly uncomplicated and on-point three-tracker for Rawax. A-side "Off Message" sets the tone, with O'Sullivan layering deep space chords and gentle intergalactic melodies atop a tough-but-rubbery beat. The sweatier and sleazier "Night Nurse" boasts fizzing, fill-happy drum machine percussion and deep space chords that recall the early years of Detroit techno, while "Porcupine Grove" is a snappy, pitched-up romp rich in crunchy TR-909 beats, faintly foreboding background chords and tight melodic loops.

Review: Head honcho of Thule Records and an originator of the Icelandic techno scene Thor joins forces with Matt Thibideau, one of Canada's finest. The result is a masterfully crafted atmospheric glacial dub techno journey from beginning to the end. Transparent Thoughts EP includes, apart from the original, an astonishing home-brewed remixes by Matt Thibideau's project Altitude and by Thor himself. Altitude mix is deep, and has some serious dub treatment but still packing nice punch for the dance floor. Thor brings his signature sound to his rework; full of heavy dub-techno influences and a mix of techno and deep house beats. Essential for the serious vinyl-jockey. Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musicians

Review: The 2nd release for Verdant in 2020 'Limbic Resonance' is a double A side 12 sharing the hearts and minds of 2 talented producers. The imprint once again provides a stage for a nascent artist; Nesa Azadikhah from Iran is a key voice for the underground scene in Tehran. Her unique style of music assimilates her culture and personal experiences with a worldly and studious appreciation of deep techno. Alison Marks, an established producer from London has an enviable catalogue of releases as herself, Lumina and as a member of Wallflower with Leah Floyeurs. Notably heard on Rebirth and Dogmatik her music is typically filled with warmth and soul.

INNATE 004
  1. Aroy Dee - "Leegte"
  2. Gilbert - "Furthest Planet"
  3. Jonski - "Venusian Surface"
  4. DJ Guy - "Aphelion Orbit"
Review: The fourth multi-artist EP from blog-turned-record label Innate takes the imprint's inherently warm and far-sighted sound into new intergalactic directions. Offering a quartet of cuts from established producers and rising stars, all inspired by dreams of cross-cosmic travel and the alluring weightlessness of deep space. 004 explores the love of stargazing electronics in much greater deapth.

The A-side is all about melodious and spacey electro with Dutch legend Aroy Dee making a rare appearance away from his acclaimed M>O>S Recordings label. "Leegte" A1 is impressively immersive, cloaking a jaunty bassline and lo-fi beats in sumptuous aural textures and glassy-eyed chords. Accompanied by Innate label regular Gilbert, "Furthest Planet" A2 is a deep roller whose lilting lead lines, shimmering electronics and tumbling acid lines are little less than life-affirming.

On side B, the sound subtly shifts towards the multi-coloured, sci-fi shimmer of techno. Newcomer Jonski, (aka Bristol electro producer Zobol) drops "Venusian Surface" B1 - a classic interstellar jam full of vivid chords, echoing synth squiggles and alluring leads that rise above a classic tech-funk bassline. Last but not least, effervescent Welshman DJ Guy (Unthank/Other World Music) slams down an energetic techno stomper in "Aphelion Orbit": boasting brilliantly breathless drum programming, illuminated by the celestial shimmer of accompanying chords. A perfect conclusion to Innate's most action-packed release to date.

Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

Review: A shared album from two acid mavericks. Listen in as they share all of their experience in brewing and consuming beverages (hic)...[Review by Pietro @ Igloo Magazine] "A double album from two acid mavericks Roy of the Ravers and Myoptik...85-minutes of acid-drenched braindance mayhem that is disjointedly playful.Myoptik's side of the platter stirs a myriad of distorted found sounds, vocodered samples, broken techno, and electro fragments into a proverbial sonic soup while Roy of the Ravers delves into early-era rave-infused acid techno and crackling breaks (as would be expected), only to balance each other out as a whole.Such a plethora of experimental and movement-based nostalgic electronics makes for an energy-packed collection that traverses a historical backdrop of early 90s warehouse raves.Listen in as these two musicians share all of their experience in brewing and consuming beverages, while somehow managing to record the results."

Review: Mixing Engineer, DJ and producer Yossi Amoyal is the man behind Sushitech Records. The label turned 15 years old in 2020 and to celebrate this milestone Yossi has compiled Fluere across four discs (plus an extended Part V - Fatum). The compilation shares some of his story through the records that inspired him and continue to do so. The tracks mark more than two decades of buying records. Starting in a time when new music had to be actively sought out and ending with the abundance of new releases available online today. Fluere marks the end of a chapter and is a very personal collection featuring forgotten tracks remastered for today next to exclusive and unreleased music. As the name Fluere would suggest, the tracks it contains are the glue that hold a set together. They are special, hypnotic, mood setters from artists who specialise in subtlety, from Two Lone Swordsmen and Baby Ford to Steve O Sullivan and Mathew Jonson. Each part of the compilation tells its own story, both through the music on offer and with an exclusive insert written by Yossi himself. The tracks themselves represent over three decades of moving dance floors. Starting with Mark Broom's Gira first released in 1995 and right up to Brawther's Serpent, produced in 2020, Fluere creates its own unique journey through this period of dance music history.

Review: Malin Genie is back with the second instalment in his immersive 12" project, Vixere. This edition kicks off with an instantly tougher demeanour compared to the supremely chilled first one, as witnessed by the straight-up tech thump of "Troglodyte Party". "Drek" teases things back down to a heady murmur with some squashed and subliminal minimal house for the back room crowd, while "Mastodon" brings back some of those vibrant industrial textures that stood out on "Duppy" from Vixere I/II. "The Foolish & The Senseless Alike" is a more chirpy, synth rich groover and "Bodie" closes this quality project out with a richly rendered ambient sound bath.

Review: A new philosophy as time enters a radical history of our evolution. Being and nothingness in one, creatures of habit, the angels of nature, we can herald a new humanity.

DJN4 enters in homage. Optimus Yarnspinner. Edification through music bends, but does not break the untameable lost voices. This dissolution of ego, where culture exemplifies the principle of innovation through excess, the nocturnal brain sees only what it seeks.

The order of time is more than a conspiracy of the people, this enforced interlude does not mean culture's end. Our culture, music's culture, acts as a genome, a graffiti of society.

The psy, the rave, the sounds, the species, the food of the gods. Alpha Juno, Cyclon 303, mutable instruments and ideas collated, N4's modern mysticism to harness the Earth as a being of sound. This occult features an anarchism, offering us a collective immortality, allowing us, showing us, how to be more humane.

Across eight tracks, our DJ weaves a journey to the inner and outer digi sphere, a two-year search, in to steppas, out of dub, evoking legitimate synthesis and sensibility. Look beyond Zamonia. The lost Chord. An alien dreamtime. Tales of Z.

Einerlei has an unrivaled ability to create long revolving landscapes of techno, which over the course of the track take you on a journey, adding subtle elements as you listen, but retaining the core rif. Lee Renacre has been delivering distinctive club tracks with an ear-snagging kink since the early '90s, and he's sounding as inspired as ever on this new release. "Jive" skips and swings with urgency, but the synths soar like the loftiest Motor City anthems. "Honkey (Crazy Hats)" is a more obscure affair that uses subtle inflections of rhythm and texture to create an immersive trip anchored to a steady kick. "Ochos" is a dreamier cut that places the emphasis on melody and atmospherics rather than straight up beats, creating a beautiful slice of machine soul in the process.

"Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. Review: Following on from a sell-out first release, Serenity Records returns with a four track double-header from Thoma Bulwer & Anna Wall. In alignment with the label's policy of allowing the artists commissioned to choose a mental-health charity of their choice, 002 dedicates all its proceeds to Centrepoint - an organisation which seeks to combat the ever-growing problem of homelessness. The EP spans across the full spectrum of Techno, with the cuts varying from soft melodic textures, floaty synth work and a B1 that wouldn't stand at all out of place in a peak-time club setting - a nice surprise from this exciting new not-for-profit label...

Glacial Valley is a proper dub techno track that keep inspiring many producers and DJ's even 10 years after it was released. It's simply one of those tracks that sound big and balanced on any sound system. On the flip, Clearings is another highlight!! 15th Anniversary reissue - white vinyl collectors edition.

Review: When cult Canadian Akufen (which is, fact fans, a phonetic spelling of acouphene, the French word for tinnitus) releases music, it doesn't hang around long. And it has been that way for decades now. This new one on Ourway will surely keep up that long tradition, offering as it does more timeless house minimalists and studio trickery. 'The Arising Of The Phoenix (In Memory Of Mark Bartissol)' is a deep house groove with heavenly melodic loops that cast your mind free from this world. 'Running Out Of Thyme' offers a wonky, jerking beat to make you move your feet and the pixelated pads of 'Hey, Rube!' bring scintillating texture, while 'Picked Beats' is a darker, dubbier closer.

Review: The very talented Citty , is the responsible for "Final Hope", the 5th Alpengluhen vinyl.
The live modular techno project founded by Martini Vodecka offers us 4 tracks that fit perfectly with the sound of the label.

The subliminal and oscillating melodies, the percussions with reverbs from outer worlds and the hypnotic and deep sounds created by Citty go directly to our minds and feet. The optimism and the emotional vibes make us dance unavoidably with a smile in the face. The dynamic range control and the masterful mixdown create fluctuating layers and above all, deepness. Subtle acid lines merge perfectly with profound and progressive pads generating tension and again, depth.
If "Emotional" was the word that best defined Edit Select's Habitual ep, "Deepness" would be the right one for this "Final Hope"ep.
Only 200 copies pressed.

Cat: 89GHOST 015. Rel: 09 Nov 20
  1. DBSDUB2

  3. HOTARU
  4. BAUCH3
Review: When he dons his Smoke cloak, Neil 'Nail' Tolliday assumes a mysterious, dubbed out persona which amps up the reverb and delay for some truly somnambulant deep house trips. It's been a good few years since we last heard from the project, but now it makes a welcome return on 89:Ghost with just the kind of sweet and spaced-out house we like. 'DBSDUB2' may be drenched in dub techno melancholy, but it's the pairing of the soulful undertones and rock solid rhythm section that make it a hit. 'BAQDUB' takes things deeper down into meditative but still rolling territory, while 'HOTARU' strips back the gaseous pads to make for a Maurizio-flavoured cut. 'BAUCH3' finishes the set with a classy micro dub excursion to properly melt into - the perfect end to an aesthetically watertight record.

Cat: WSR 003. Rel: 23 Nov 20
  1. Echo Chamber
  2. Set Point
  3. Soft Focus
  4. Soft Focus (Gasometric Run remix)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Well Street have been mightily impressive with their first two releases, presenting relatively unknown artists exploring some fertile liminal zones between deep techno, broken beat, ambient and many other shards of on point electronic music. Robert Fleck is now drafted in for the third release, making a debut appearance with a sound that further shapes out the vision of the label. "Echo Chamber" unsurprisingly deals in dubby textures, taking classic dub techno chords and matching them with delicate, crafty percussive flex outs. "Set Point" follows a similar path, but with a more delineated 4/4 backbone to the track that emphasies Fleck's techno tendencies. "Soft Focus" heads in a more UK-minded direction, using ample space and snagging beats with poised touches of Reese-ish sub bass without ever over-cooking the broth. Gasometric Run then comes on board to remix "Soft Focus," channeling Rhythm & Sound loud and proud to create a wonderful slice of ambient dub techno.

Review: Popping The Cherry of 2020's latest modern-contemporary record label; Step Ball Chain, is Roza Terenzi with "Stylish Tantrum". Suggestive title to set the tone; the 5 track EP insisting sharp, sassy, high-tempered bombs with full bodied bounce. Unexpected tempo and timing variations, flared-up bpms, half time drum cuts and slicked modular flourishes, Terenzi's signature cheek ramps up to an extra twisted club climate, atmospheric and evocative in texture as always. Featuring collaborations with D. Tiffany and Saoirse, the release covers extended dancefloor territory, assertive anthems delivering femme finesse, choreographed to perfection.

  2. Jazz Carnival (Space Jazz mix - Global Communication remix) (11:15)
Review: We hear on the grapevine that there could be some seriously desirable Global Communication vinyl reissues on the way in 2020. To tide us over until then, Far Out has decided to reissue one of the legendary West Country duo's most celebrated and sought-after remixes: their 1996 "Space Jazz" remix of Azymuth classic "Jazz Carnival". Pritchard and Middleton's version is a spacey deep house epic of intergalactic proportions, with subtle elements of the Brazilian band's loose and languid '90s re-recording of the track (the B-side "LP Mix") weaving in and out of a warm, rich and hypnotic groove. It's one of the most dancefloor-friendly of all Global Communication remixes - many were straight ambient or downtempo rubs - but also one of Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton's finest.

Synthesizing bass music traditions and experimentalism from their home continent, the Americas, Africa, and the Caribbean, the Munich duo are sound system staples, with a relentless (pre-covid) touring schedule and a long-running residency on the 60,000-watt Elemental Wave rig at their legendary Blurred Vision night. Absolutely no one makes omnivorous hybrid rave-club-dub-tech like the boys from Munich, and after the universal love received for their first ZamZam, "Dun Dem" b/w "Soundbad" we couldn't wait to get into a next chapter.

  4. Holy Motor$
Review: Moscow duo Odopt debut on the label with an EP of discordant, darkroom bangers for the end of days. Following acclaimed releases for Born Free, Discos Capablanca and Hivern. Ivan & Grisha - former residents of the infamous Denis Simachev Bar who glided aboard the Salon des Amateurs, Sameheads, Opium, Golden Pudel, 20:44 caravan with ease - present a 4 tracker of propulsive techno-house chamber music for these modern times.

Starting with A14 their nefarious, sonic industrial funk is on max. Samples reverberate around a dystopian shell, before playful tonalities swirl you higher. As hands to the sky as Odopt will ever witness. There is true beauty in the night.

A dense atmosphere prevails Keylat, it's darker EBM variations jack the master; voices scattering over schematic, metallic melodies before percussion is tamed, fading to a soporiphic realism.

Rolling, squelchy, acid, we embrace Sample Commerce Shot. Bending, growling, dive-bombing limbs and minds, its sleazy pursuit hard to resist as cavernous flashes lung from neo arpeggios to lock you in the groove.

Holy Motor$ the perfect finale. Brooding, virulent, hulking. A monage of momentum, menace, machine music; its haunting nervy bass for the slaughter. Take my hand. Let's walk. Most likely we'll laugh in the next life.

'Voice Modulation' is slower, heavier and steadier, built around a shuddering b-line that anyone with a pulse will find hard to resist. 'Mad Scientist' the track, meanwhile, is faster and, with its vocoder-ed vocal delivery from Tucker, gives a good flavour of what makes the Michigan pair a vital live act as well as a legendary studio prospect.

Review: We kick start the return of Wigflex records with a brand new release from first time flexer and Nottingham's biggest blades fan... Son of Philip.

Inspired by the story of how Cans drummer Jaki Liebezeit was once told to "play monotonous" during the LSD-induced ramblings of a fan; and the experimentation into repetition which followed.

We first heard Rubber Stamp during a wonky walk around Dam in the early hours of the morning, it made perfect sense then and still makes perfect sense now.

King of hazy, crystallised electronics Actress steps things up a notch and takes the ep away from a Hoffman-esque bicycle ride and onto the dance floor.
