Review: Matthew "Bushwacka!" B may not be as high profile a producer as he once was, but it's worth remembering that he was once one of the leading lights of both the early UK tech-house movement and the recently revived breakbeat house sound. The two tracks featured here touch on both styles in a roundabout way, and were first released way back in 1997. "Traffic Jam" is an insatiable, funk-fuelled peak-time workout that sees the London scene mainstay pepper a vintage, electro-influenced breakbeat house groove with UK garage style bass, fizzing scratch sounds, warm deep house chords and selected vocal samples. "Bus Stop" meanwhile is jaunty and melodious, with chiming, ear-pleasing riffs riding crunchy house drums and the kind of booming bassline that was all the rage in London at the time of recording.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Trelik reach into their recent archives with a much needed repress of Whalesong, the label's 2011 debut from UK producer OCH. With a compulsive passion for the dying art of crate-digging combined with a love for modern synthesis techniques the now Sweden based OCH manages to put together a 12" that could easily be described as psychedelic Chicago. "Whalesong" is a pulsating floor work-out which references the US greats whilst building an emotive sub-aqua soundscape. "Blind is The Wind" follows with a sneaky chord driven spoken interlude which creates an air of tension before climaxing into "Last Chance Saloon".

Review: Given the length of his career and the hushed tones he's spoken of within the underground techno community, it's perhaps surprising that Lawrence has never released music on Giegling before. Here he joins the much-admired label following a couple of years spent putting out music on Mule. He expertly sets the tone via the soft-touch cymbals, hypnotic kick-drums and bleeping melodies of "Moonlight", before upping the intensity a little on the sparse, bass-heavy minimal techno throb of "Bonfire". Lawrence once again reaches for the echo-laden computer bleeps on the undeniably trippy, early morning hypnotism of "Intereference", while "Bonfire (Reprise)" is a spaced-out DJ tool built around extended ambient passages, restless sub-bass and loose-limbed broken techno drums.

Review: David Swatten self released the "South EP" under his Planisphere guise out of Australia back in the year 2000. The 4 track 12" of ultra deep tones and smoky piano musings only found its way into a handful of owner's collections. A few copies resurfaced much later in 2017, with Dave himself selling his last few remaining records via email orders gathered through the online treasure trove that is the We're Going Deep Facebook group. For Those That Knoe promptly got in touch with Dave to talk about a potential project and it can now be revealed. This labour of love has come to fruition in the form of a long player that features three cuts from the "South EP" as well as 8 other rare and exclusive previously unreleased recordings.

Review: Alex Attias' Visions Inc imprint has decided to launch a new multi-artist EP series. Happily, the first "Phase" in the "Evolution" series - they've promised three more this year - delivers a suitably strong start. Patrice Scott sets a high benchmark with opener "Rain Dance", a wonderfully warm fusion of elastic deep house beats, spacey electronic motifs and tactile Rhodes chords, before Kai Alce breaks up the beats a little on his effortlessly soulful, jazz-funk influenced revision of "Stay My Way" by Kemetic Just presents Justone. Hanna's flipside opener "Heist" is suitably deep, starry, groovy and soulful, while Reekee's "Let It Make" is a musically rich affair full of jazz-funk bass, fizzing synths, far-sighted chords and bustling beats that sit somewhere between broken beat and breakbeat house.

There is a truly heavy weight selection of artists involved in the project and the first edition 'carbon' leads with contributions from two of the most influential electro producers of all time The Hacker and 214, who both deliver unforgiving hard hitting excursions to future worlds. A2 see's Chicago's Local Options with their trade mark sound of Jackin Deep House. On the flip B1 is Saison's "A Good Thang". Review: The third trip out on Nuances De Nuit brings together another killer selection of ear-snagging club cuts that appeal to the deep-digging community. Kolter's "Don't Kill My Groove" has already been drawing plenty of favourable attention from the likes of Moxie with its deft breaks and electro-funk stylings. T. Jacques' "Control" is a peppy tech house jam with a sleek garage bump that should go down a treat with serious heads and passing trade alike. The real treat here though is Metro's "Here For The Love", a seriously in-demand jam from 1994 finally getting the repress treatment to take it out of the hands of the sharks. Vitess completes the package with "133cc", a dynamic wiggler with enough tripped out elements to take out a tank.

  2. Ge-ology - "Stomp Your Feet" (Ge-ology Re-Flip) (6:43)
Review: Secretsundaze are proud to unleash the first release of a new re-edit series. The duo of James Priestley & Giles Smith offer up their own version of something close to their hearts whilst inviting some of their favourite artists to present a re-work of their choice.

For the first in the series, Secretsundaze head into deep, cosmic, spiritual territory reworking a version of Ghana Nila. Emanating from a Californian ashram towards the end of 2000s and never released on vinyl before, this heavily percussive, jazz organ, powerful choir and lead vocal number gets a subtle, positive, respectful and uplifting rework with just enough oomph for the floor.

NYC's Ge-ology steps up to re-flip a late-70s infectious uptempo party starting disco groover. Killing heavy flute soloing, sick strings and good times vocals get the Geo extended intro and DJ-friendly workout, as only he knows how. Originally a 4 minute album track this is a loving rework aimed purely to Stomp your Feet!

Review: Constant Sound's electro arm, Infiltrate, calls upon the considerable talents and technical heft of London Modular Alliance for a bruising EP of body-popping exploration strapped to a tough n' funky beatdown. "Crack Fox" is as nervy and nimble as the title might suggest, while "Regular Customer" takes things in a hyper-detailed direction compatible with the kind of advanced machine funk you expect from Silicon Scally. "Blinky" follows suit with another artfully woven web of twitchy synth hooks and deftly sequenced drums, and then "Other Worlds" switches things up with some seriously hefty bass pressure pivoting around a dubstep attitude towards space and moodiness.

Review: Since first landing on earth three years ago, Distant Worlds has offered up a slew of suitably intergalactic techno and electro EPs from the likes of John Shima, Derek Carr, Perseus Traxx and Mihail P. Here they add a new name to the roster via a rock solid EP from sometime Lunar Disko regular Cignol. The producer's ability to wrest maximum emotion from his machines is exemplified by opener "Guidance Release", where melancholic pads and twisted, razor-sharp acid lines envelop a deep electro groove. It's there too in the warmer and more positive-sounding melodiousness of "Galactic Neighbourhood" and "Modularity", which sounds like the Junior Boys and Morgan Giest jamming with Gerard Hanson.

Review: After a break of almost two years, Trindadian Deep has decided to re-activate the Native Rebel Music label he founded in 2018. Like its predecessor, "Soca Electric" boasts three tracks of intricately detailed, emotion-rich deep house full of nods towards Caribbean and African musical culture. We highly recommend the luscious and beach-warm title track, where steel pan melodies, fluid synthesizer solos and life-affirming chords stretch out above a percussion-laden, Ron Trent style deep house groove. That said, we've also got a lot of love for the similarly sun-kissed, synth bass-sporting "The Edge" and the more heavily electronic deep house lusciousness of "Future Travels". In fact, all three tracks are glorious.

Review: Enigmatic producer Lost Desert has built has career on collaborative releases, so it's little surprise to see that his second Shanti Radio outing comprises three quietly impressive studio hook-ups. He first joins forces with Gorje Hewek and Izhevski on A-side cut "Yurta", a delightfully loose and rolling fusion of slipped tech-house grooves, meandering electronic motifs, Middle Eastern percussion and drifting Arabic vocals. Over on side B he reunites with regular studio partner Lee Burridge for some deep tech-house warmth influenced by the music of Turkey, before hooking up with Hermanez to wrap gentle, blissful melodies, dreamy chords and toasty bass around another sumptuous, Middle East influenced dancefloor groove.

Review: For Those That Knoe kicks off a series of DJ-selected compilations featuring unearthed gems and tried and trusted belters. The first release in the series is provided by label owner Ben boe. Ben has dug deep into the racks to select two personal record box faves. Slaves Incorporated (Paul Rayner) released a short sequence of raw UK-styled garage music in the mid-ninetees on the label "To Groove To Records" out of the UK midlands. The pick of the bunch, "Baby", a peak time thumper with classic organ stabs and swooping subs graces the A-side. Tom Gillieron, perhaps only known to folk on the London scene has released some sought after tech house classics. Originally featuring on his first solo EP on Reverberations in 1998, "The Fire" is an impeccably produced deep breakbeat track for the heads.

Review: Miles Sagnia has a deep-rooted backstory in the UK underground techno scene. Under his own name and as Miles Atmospheric he's produced consistently compelling techno for labels like Finale Sessions, FireScope, Aesthetic Audio and Applied Rhythmic Technology. Such associations point to the soundworld Sagnia inhabits - a harmonically balanced strain of deep-diving brain food that favours expressive musicality and inventive programming over rigid functionality.

Having previously appeared as Miles Sagnia on Ornate back in 2010, he returns to the label as Miles Atmospheric with three cuts that explore melancholic moods through artful interplay between beautifully rendered synth tones and intricate drum machine excursions. These tracks still move with purpose and presence, but the end goal is more cerebral than physical - a perfect fit for the immersive experiences Ornate has always strived to promote.

Review: This is a suitably sizable start to the year from Gettraum main man and tech-house/techno scene stalwart Romain Reynaud AKA Traumer. Featuring 11 floor-focused tracks stretched across three slabs of wax, "Assembling Pieces" is the producer's first album-length excursion since 2014. After kicking off with the funk-fuelled warmth of "Baud", Reynaud confidently flits through tech-house/dub techno fusion ("Assembling Pieces"), ear-pleasing deep tech-house melodiousness ("Listen", the breezy and peak-time ready "Strap"), analogue-rich intergalactic goodness (the acid-flecked "Square Up" and locked-in late night heaviness ("Tydar"). The set also includes three rather tasty collaborations, with the Steve O'SDullivan and Cristi Cons hook-ups standing out.
