Review: For the latest missive on their reissue-focused Attic Salt Discs imprint, Dusty-fingered duo Colin Volvert and Otto Kraanen have snapped up the rights to a sought-after 1984 cut from Belgian new wave band 1000 Ohm. You'll find their original vocal and instrumental versions on the A-side, with both sounding like a delightful cross between bubbly Italo-disco, Bobby 'O' style Hi-NRG and the imperial synth-pop of the Pet Shop Boys. Arguably even better than both original mixes is Vanzetti and Sacco's more dancefloor-focused flipside edit. While this does make use of 1000 Ohm's Heaven 17/ABC style vocals and cheery melodies, there's far more focus on the druggy arpeggio groove and chunky drum machine beats.
Review: Emotional Rescue again delves in the world of private pressings, with a reissue of British electronic pop meets proto-House duo 4AM. With copies of their self titled album now highly sought after, this timely reissue presents two of their songs as a stand alone 7".
Consisting of multi-instrumentalist Steve Kirby - piano, guitar, bass, programming - and vocalist Kevin Finch, 4AM came together after youths filled with a love of music. Following a string of band attempts, Steve dived in to the world of midi, allowing him to build a studio set up and play solo. A meeting with new work colleague Kevin quickly developed to joining forces to expand on his early demos.
Their melodic, dance-influenced pop draws on a love of Japan, OMD and The The, but also ECM jazz and a touch of "white boy soul". The TR-808 drum and hi-hats, string stabs and random acid squelches - although no TR-303 was used - highlights the influence the nascent House sounds emanating from the "second summer of love" of 1988 / 89 had in their music melting pot.
Over this, personal lyrics flow, full of honest emotions and a touch of youthful naivety thrown in - of relationships, love, sex and passions. Intended as a personal artifact, the original album was released in 1990 with no promotion or live shows and has taken until now, some 30 years, to find a cult audience. I want you with a Passion.

Review: As many of you may know, Advance's "Take Me To The Top" is something of a boogie classic; an Italian record from 1982 rich in soulful vocals and squidgy synths that sounds like it was recorded in New York rather than Napoli or Rome. Here, long-serving house producer Michael Gray (he of Full Intention fame) gets his hands on the original and delivers a couple of contemporary updates that are pleasingly reverential to the source material. The A side "Sultra Remix" has a few tasty contemporary touches - looped sections, chunky beats, special effects - but is otherwise fairly faithful to the sun-kissed, synth-laden original mix. While rather good, it's the flipside Dub that really set our pulses racing, not least because it emphasizes the elastic bassline, loved-up chord sequence and colourful electrofunk electronics.
Review: Andromeda Orchestra returns, unearthing "Don't Stop" and employing Ray Mang on remix duties, turning the track into a peak-time disco master class. Strings, Clav's, Piano's, spacey keyboard solo's, sound fx and modern disco drums collide for maximum dance floor connection. It's perfect for the bigger clubs and festival sets and yet still intimate enough for the smaller ones.
B1 see's "Kano Line Dance", finally receiving the vinyl release it deserves. This spacey disco nugget effortlessly combines Rhodes and guitars to create yet another modern, dance floor hit, which is already receiving support from the likes of Horse Meat Disco. Rounding off the EP on B2 is the original of "Don't Stop". The disco original sits perfectly between "Constellation Orchestra" and the more underground disco sound of New York. Perfect for the summer.
Mister Wong (Jura Soundsystem extended Disco dub edit)
Review: In 1972, French producer turned ZE Records founder Michel Esteban released a one-off single as Bella Vista, "Mister Wong". Like many of the records the New York-based entrepreneur worked on, the track gleefully joins the dots between spacey synth-pop, NYC style mutant disco and what these days we'd call sun-kissed Balearic disco. The slow motion, glassy-eyed original version comes accompanied by the original flipside "Disco Dub" - a much sparser affair focused on the killer slap bass, reverb-laden percussion and slivers of guitar and synth - and a brand new "Extended Disco Dub Edit" by Isle of Jura chief Kevin Griffiths as Jura Soundsystem. This extends the oh-too-short Disco Dub for greater dancefloor pleasure while adding some fantastic new percussion.

Review: Camarao Orkestra may be based in Paris, but their hearts are always in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro. The incendiary live band has a new album on the way (their last dropped three years ago) so to get us in the mood Favorite Recordings has served up this suitably steamy workout. In its' A-side original mix form, "Nacao Africa" is a mid-tempo chunk of low-slung Latin boogie rich in drunken trumpet lines, sweet female vocals, Marcos Valle guitar riffs and weighty dub disco bass. Patchworks man Bruno Hovart handles remix duties, first offering up a sweet two-step soul/laidback boogie revision before slamming down a hypnotic, stripped-back and delay-laden "Late Night Dub".

Review: Notorious disco protagonist, DJ and producer, Al Kent returns with his latest dance-floor tour de force. His updated take on 'Gold Wave' is a tasteful reinterpretation of Japanese producer Waq Takahashi's tribute to the soulful roots of vintage disco.
Clocking in at an epic 11+ minutes it's wholesome, uplifting and unsurprisingly reminiscent of a classic Walter Gibbons rework. With incredibly tight musicianship and accomplished production, complimented by soaring orchestration, It's hard to believe this was recorded in Japan in the 21st Century and is not some long lost Vince Montana recording that's been gathering dust in a New York recording studio since 1976!

Review: After the first release by Dirty Channels and huge supports from Palms Trax, The Black Madonna, Annie Mac, Rampa, Disclosure, Tom Trago and many others, Take It Easy is back! The second release of the label connected to the well-know party Take It Easy in Milan, comes from the party and label co-owner DJLMP. For his debut EP, DJLMP shows his eclectic vision of the club music, passing throw disco samples, house music and percussive vibes. "Blow Your Mind" open the EP with an epic and dreamy filtered sample. On a2, DJLMP gives his dancefloor and house vision of "Kachi Kachi" by the brilliant In Flagranti. Edging in a little 80's sauce to meet with tought and gritty dancefloor attentions "Tiger Cat" is a clear highlight on the record. "Angry" close the EP with its disco percussions and trumpets. Perfect tool to cross between house and disco tracks.
Review: Big Love label owner Seamus Haji started the Re-Loved imprint to flaunt his love for boogie / disco / nu disco tracks and has built a strong reputation for delivering the goods. So much so, that now 2 hot names on the nu disco scene have signed this latest single 'Moods Of Music' to the label.
Dr Packer you'll know from his ubiquitous re-works for Salsoul, Glitterbox and Defected Records. Mark Lower you'll also be familiar with in his own right and his work under the Barry & Gibbs moniker, both names topping the Nu Disco charts. On this collab they've come up with an infectious bassline that drives the groove along aided by a hooky rhythm guitar, underpinned by a strong brass section and punctuated by a spoken word vocal discussing the 'Moods Of Music'.

Instantly tom rolling into a neo-electro commodity, 'Voice Inside' undulates with lustrous vocals that stand as the tracks core. Pads cling to bleeps and guitar chunks that evaporate with alternating delays. 'Voice Inside (French)' adds a sensual linguistic twist, although the elements remain the same, they feel so different. 'Voice Inside (Dub)' completes the A, stripping tones back and chopping the duration to find yet another gorgeous avenue.
On the flip, Backwoods Remix adds to the original atmosphere with a face scrunching bass-line and pulsating 4/4 kicks that embraces the not so distant future. Last but by no means least, the mighty Craig Richards' signature 808s pound on the remix to close the B. Pulling darker tones to pitch shifted vocals, this minimalist beat composition is perfectly suited for vigorous floors.
