Shapes EP (140 gram vinyl 12")

  3. Up There
Review: Following a journey of releases via Morocco, Uganda and Kenya, Banana Hill look close to home for their fifth release and present an accomplished debut from Manchester-based producer Clay. Sounds of the city run through this record, from the ethereal synths, scattered percussion and driving low end of 'Up There' to the broken beat swing of 'People Floating' and the title track 'Shapes' that sounds like it was crafted for a specific moment at 5am in a Salford club.

  3. Off The Man (5:10)
Review: After a very limited release to a handful of stores in 2018, Adesse Versions makes another small pressing of Walrus Edits available. Featuring vinyl-only cuts of a true Los Angeles funk pioneer, often overlooked due to his infamous love songs. Starting with the electronic boogie of 'Passion', one of the tightest and most under-rated funk gems of the 1980s. This was made specially for Adesse's last Boiler Room show and became his most requested and sought after edit. The B-side takes things in a completely different direction, with the raw deep-house grime of 'Rivers' and the orchestral almost Philip Glass-esque 'Off The Man'.

Review: Serenity Records is a new not-for-profit record label, aimed at raising essential awareness on the growing epidemic of mental health within the music industry, whilst also donating all proceeds of its project to various mental health charities. One of the key features of the project is to allow the artists commissioned for each EP to have the opportunity to select the particular charity that their work will support. So for 001, John Shima & Mihail P's EP will support the work of Music Minds Matter - a charity unquestionably leading the way in making a difference to mental health issues in the music industry. The inaugural EP beautifully intertwines between floaty synth work and hypnotic percussion - adequately serving its purpose as a resource for music lovers looking to seek refuge away from whatever problems they may face.

Review: No Fuss presents Saison for their 5th vinyl release. A collection of some of the duo's finest work. A1 is Saison's take on French artist N-You-Up's Vibin' which has been a huge track for the label. A2 is Saison's original "One Day" which has been a favourite of Chicago legend Chez Damier and a stable in all of his sets over the past year. B1 is another Saison rework from N-You-Up with jazzy riffs and jacking swinging drums. Finally B2 is a classic Saison sound in full effect. Sazerac is a Jazz fuelled driving track that has all the elements that's given Saison the sound they are known for.

Review: D-Knox (Donnell Knox) returns to his own Sonic Mind label for the start of a new collaboration with Mark Hawkins, otherwise known as Marquis Hawkes.

Knox is a living legend who's been making music for over 25 years since growing up in Michigan's Kalamazoo (a city halfway between Detroit and Chicago). The man from Kalamazoo who now resides in Warsaw (Poland) has forged a career of intense quality, which began with releases on the likes of Jay Denham's Black Nation and Elypsia before he launched his own Sonic Mind label in the mid-90s.

Many will know the Marquis Hawkes name for his releases on labels like Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Clone, Aus Music and Houndstooth. What may not be as well known are his origins in the UK, cutting his teeth DJing (whilst living as a New Age traveller) at illegal events in the mid-90s before launching as a producer under his real name, Mark Hawkins on the likes of Djax-Up-Beats.

  4. Brad P - "Time Machine" (Derek Carr remix)
Review: Chubby's third volume of split EP goodness welcomes two seasoned veterans of the deep to spin some yarns, with a couple of equally sagely remixers on board too. Vincent Floyd takes up the A side with the beautifully lilting house haze of "Meditation". Deep88 takes the original and gives it a more forthright set of drums - a more visceral jack for those who love the mellow moods but want some bite for the floor. Brad P's "Time Machine" is a typically refined trip into the undergrowth with gorgeous techno synth lines flitting around a warm and easygoing groove made all the sweeter by a little broken beat kink.

This third drop comes from label owners Dirty Channels, Bugsy and DJLMP with the addition of the historical italian dj and Paradise Pizza's label owner Memoryman aka Uovo. After their big success "Watchin Out" and "Catch Me", Dirty Channels open the EP with an Afro-influeced sample stomper followed up by an afrobeat vocal tool by DJLMP. "I Wonder" open the B side with some crackly Detroit atmosphere by Memoryman aka Uovo. "Pomiri Dan" completes the set, percussive sample stomper by Bugsy on his first appearance on the label.

  3. Saint Paul - "You're The One"
  4. Castle Queenside - "Day Old Data"
Review: The debut vinyl release from See-Saw, featuring four disco infused flavours for your listening pleasure.
First up at the A1 spot is Doin' My Thang by Gledd, a full-on funk phenomenon of catchy guitar licks, brass and strings straight out of Studio 54! This is a floor filler in the making and one to watch this springtime.
Following this is Everybody On The Floor by Monsieur Van Pratt, a pounding disco belter with an irrepressible vocal hook and a beat that'll have the crowd clapping their hands faster than you can say smoke machine.
Flipping over onto the B side, at the B1 spot is You're The One by Saint Paul. If the groove on this sucker doesn't drag you onto the dance floor, the disco vocals and monumental riffs will!
Finally, at the B2 spot is Day Old Data by Castle Queenside. Guitar riffs, EP licks, epic key changes and a bassline that'll get any party moving, Day Old Data is the perfect end to this debut release and a worthy addition to any DJs secret weapons.

  1. Late Night Cruising

  4. Chicago Lights
Review: Soul Central responsible for the anthemic house version of 'Strings of Life' needs no introduction. Their latest Pimp Life EP is a limited edition four-track vinyl that fluidly introduces the Electric Shrine imprint. The EP features a mix of gritty, jazzy, soulful and funk-filled cuts that are interplayed with raw interviews from behind bars. Soul Central keeps it deep and sleazy whilst delivering the real deal. 'Late Night Cruising' chronicles the journey of a Bluesman, departing with the funkiest of grooves and solid sub-bass becoming the final destination.
'Just A Man' embeds the confessions from a convicted pimp dispersed with classic keys and dripped in Soul. Turning in a modern take on the deeper side of Disco. 'Bring It Home' is haze fuelled & reminiscent of the early US House scene. 'Chicago Lights' fuses 4/4, low slung Funk driven by a deeper dub vehicle.

Review: It's been a while since his last EP, but this one sounds like he's nailed it again. Focused strictly on deep house with an atmospheric vibe, Brad P's new break from his earlier projects (which he put on pause after 2015), certainly shows us he is still driving in the deep house lane with first-rate keybord playing on top of his usual chord & bass-lined grooves. Previously found on labels such as Moods and Grooves, Seventh Sign, Altered Moods and Black Key, he is back as he gears up to release more of his music through his own imprint Inner Shift. All mid and slow tempo deep house lovers, get onto this.

The 2xLP album is the result of an unceasing and steadily research of one of the Italian music innovators, who doesn't just make house, but he's just as adept making hip-hop, downtempo, technoish and ethereal stuff deeply rooted into Chicago and Detroit history that starts with mellow atmospheres to then go up and down, skillfully juggling among samples, hardwares and artistry, showing his abilities with the sole purpose of calling out all the music heads, regardless of their taste, and unite 'em under one only message. Simply something for everyone!

Review: After the strong debut outing with Canada's finest Nick Holder, the Selections imprint return with this latest exploration from Rough Recordings founder Tobi Danton. Starting things of "That's right" combines low thumping bass grooves with delicate pads to form a beautiful representation of peak time energy. This theme then continues on the a2 with "1988", a cut which would fit perfectly booming out of the once legendary Chicago warehouses. B1 once again ingrains that Chicago influence, with a deep Knuckles esc cut that is sure to evoke emotions at the end of the night. Finally, Kevin Over takes on the remix duties on the B2 with a warping dub fuelled rework which does not hold back on the low end.

Review: Ju/Na is a collaborative project between Juri Corrado and Nathan Dawidowicz and was borne in Berlin where both of them live. It's a conjunction of free verse and analog soundscapes - which could be described as 'analog poetry'

This debut album 'Haiku' is an exploration of contemporary narcisism which unfolds against a backdrop of different facets of contemporary life in imaginary/imagined or concrete urban spaces. Each side of the record contains three tracks - reflecting the three phrases of Japanese Haiku poetry. With a surreal language and quotes from mythology, the opus potrays the dreamy delirium of the Ego, from Love to disenchantment.

The EP is a musical delight formed by three club ready deep house cuts that Ron hs on lockdown. RAW 3 EP

Club of Jacks come correct with the third and final installment of their RAW EP series - serving up another vinyl 4 tracker of essential House & Garage grooves primed for the dancefloor.

Track 1 'Memories' opens the EP with creamy Rhodes pads leading into a pulsing deep house groove flecked with soulful vocal lines, jazzy piano arps and filtered sax riffs.

The second track 'All I Think About' is a soulful groove built around an emotive vocal hook and chugging analog pads for that end of the night vibe.

On the flip side, 'Pressure Sound' switches style to a bassline roller with vintage reggae vocals, swinging garage drums and dub fx combining into a bouncy party starter.

Finishing off the EP is 'Bug-a-Do', a tough and bumpy hybrid acid-garage-house banger. Filtered synth pads merge with a 303 and M1 piano line - a hands in the air new school / old school workout.

All tracks are produced and mixed by Club of Jacks and made to be played loud wherever you like to jack your body!

"Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

"Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. "Do Re Me" features plenty of tripped out FX sweeps and swishy pads that give this roller a dubbed out flavour perfect for the after hours. Review: Back once again we have the long anticipated 2nd release from Hearlucinate . Based around a party in London where each guest DJ is asked to collaborate on an EP with the Hearlucinogenic host and resident Tristan da Cunha . This time round we have the uber talented Ron Obvious laying down two killer cuts aimed straight at the dance floor . UK attitude mixes with New Jersey style organs , breaks , bass and a bad ass beats... Giving us two tracks that have an old school flavour but super fresh with a modern aesthetic. Once again showcasing his ability to produce timeless , tasteful grooves that make you move . Next up is TdC with his bass driven hypnotic hybrid sound . Picking up where from the last ep with heavy bottom end , driving beats , a spooky groove , all topped off with a dash of sleaze. To Finish the EP we welcome back Freakenstein with his electro funk monster taking no booty prisoner. Dance floor dynamite as always from this exciting new artist . As always it comes dressed to impress with heavy weight 180g vinyl and artwork from the workshop of Atelier Superplus.

Review: Moiss Music is pleased to announce it's first vinyl release, VA - 'Strawberry Jam', with four tracks of disco & funk goodness.

Kicking off the A side is The Funk District - 'Play The Game', what a way to kick start this vinyl release with its hooky vocal, funky chords and driving disco vibe perfect for the dancefloor.

Next up is Munky Fike - 'Oh Disco Baby' the title says it all... Bringing back that old disco vibe, beautiful keys and percussion with a vocal which flows through the track to give you that disco lift feeling with a catchy baseline.

Flipping over onto the B side we have C. Da Afro - 'Groove Definitio', funky guitar riff to get your feet stomping with a pulsating baseline groove and a guitar solo to fall in love to.
