  2. Rumba Tierna (Tenderlonious remix) (4:01)
  3. Rumba (version - Al Dobson Jr remix) (4:13)
  4. Yuka Music (Mo Kolours remix) (4:25)
Review: The fourth and final instalment of Peterson's Havana Club Rumba Sessions, here we find him recruiting the currently unmatchable 22a family for some of the most exciting remixes of the series. Reginald slows the vibe down and strips out the instrumentation to let the vocal really sparkle. Tenderlonious explores the frenetic dynamic of the drums and teases with their relentless energy. Al Dobson gets all loopy and funky while Mo Kolours breaks down "Yuka Music" and rebuilds it under his own terms; all whoops, hollers and spacey percussion, it's another stone cold Kolours killer.

Review: Last time we heard from Cleon and Jazzy Pidjay, otherwise known as Last Bongo In Paris, was back in 2013 on EDR...and here they are back on the same label, and out the bottom of a hat. Similarly to last time, "Bahia Swing" manages to conjure the right balance between jazz, funk and something a little more tropical, a sound and panache that is carried through to the following four cuts of juice. Our favourites are "Ritmo Loco" for its Latin energy, and the delightfully broken "Jarumba". If you're looking for something a little jazzy and saucy, but that pushes beyond the genre's natural confinements, this is it.

  10. Noo Bap - "Variegate" (5:13)
  11. Aloka - "Wait" (3:04)
Review: Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz Recordings is one of the only NY labels left that's waving the funk flag high and mighty. Their Tempo Dreams series is now on its fourth instalment and, once again, we're presented with a full-bodied compilation of new and funky rhythms at the cutting-edge of nu jazz. Out of the eleven cuts on offer here, we're pretty much mesmerised by the whole lot, and it's safe to say that the label have truly come through with an interesting and diverse range of street-conscious music. Geotheory throws down some gospel broken beat on the opener ""Gran Truismo", FVLCRVM throw down a sort of ode to the Madlib-Dilla continuum with "Too Attached", Promo's "Blue Soda (Part 1" is a delightful house scorcher, while other favourites include the fuzzy, bass-heavy low-ends of "Variegate" by Noo Bap, and the sensual, deep waves of the placid "Wait" by Aloka.

Review: Given that Nina Simone's 1958 debut album, Little Girl Blue, is something of a stone cold classic, it would be fair to say that DJ Maestro was taking a huge risk when he decided to get it remixed by contemporary artists. Thankfully, most involved have done a fine job, balancing the need to put their own spin on things, while paying due reverence to the source material. Highlights include a slick Reflex edit of perennial favourite "My Baby Just Cares For Me", a fast-paced, jazz-dance flavoured interpretation of "Love Me Or Leave", a sumptuous deep house take on "I Loves You Porgy" by Medd Dierdrop, and, best of all, a fantastic Latin house rework of "African Mailman" by Opolopo.

Review: One for the Sam Shepherd completists here; the 2015 debut Floating Points LP, Elaeina, now available in US import edition via David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. We've been waiting on this one since "J&W Beat" six years ago; there's something about Floating Points sound that instantly lends itself to full-length album immersion. It's clear he feels this way too; using the album to delve deeper into electronic deconstructions and delicate ensemble arrangements. At its most adventurous and contemporary classical "Argente" is up there with Frahm, at is dreamiest and jazz-influenced "For Marmish" is a deeply cosmic affair with disparate chords making more sense than they perhaps should. At its most traditional Floating Points we hit the finale "Perotation Six" where the brushed drums are buried under layers of sound and elements in a way that's not dissimilar to Radiohead. Well worth the wait.

  3. Wu15 - "The Anthem" (5:04)
  4. Henry Wu - "Shahada" (2:53)
Review: It was only a matter of time before Henry Wu and K15 would link up with London's Eglo, and their respective prior releases for the likes of Wild Oats, Rhythm Section and 22a have earned them a spot in one of the finest house and broken beat labels around. "Love's Gambit" is a perfect example of the latter genre, a sublime blend of jazzy percussion swings and smooth melodic drifts, followed by the even more soulful bounces of the gentle "Space & Time" - one for the jazz fusion heads! "The Anthem" heads towards more housey spheres thanks to its stable beat pattern - it-s an absolute peach of a tune, by the way - but it's "Shahada" that governs the dancefloor with its rough MPC drum programming and finger-licking synth rotations. A beautiful and fitting addition to the catalogue.
