Review: Having launched in fine style with the crazed Moodymann meets Dance Mania genius of Bakey USTL, Firecracker's Unthank offshoot keeps the focus squarely on Eastern Europe with some equally fine productions from a more celebrated entity. If this year is going to be dedicated to anyone, Ukraine's favourite son must surely be on the list - treating our ears and your hips to a veritable bounty of expert releases on numerous labels of high repute - Dekmantel, 3rd Strike and Ethereal Sounds to name but three. Anyone who has indulged in just one of the aforementioned releases should need no prompting to check this ten inch - with Vakula drawing on a surfeit of influences such as AFX, Claro Intelecto and DBX across the three untitled tracks. The A Side is where the deepness lies whilst the flip contains an expansive deviation into subaqueous, stripped down, hypnotic minimalism. Don't be expecting "A Tender Place" Mk2 but do expect to be seriously impressed.

Andre Lodemann - "Piece Of Mind"
Iron Curtis - "That Day"
Kink - "Don't Stop"
Ethyl & Flori - "Coney Island Boppers"
Review: For the third part in the We Get By With A Little Help series, Kolour Recordings organization House Is The Cure welcome aboard four new artists. Andre Lodemann is up first with "Piece Of Mind"; a deep, plunging record that's groove ridden in its depth yet dreamy in its emotion. Touches of delicate bells and drawn out chords build up into cascading luscious breaks that see-saw magically with the underlying beats - Juno's favorite! Iron Curtis's "That Day" also sticks to quality deep house with a rough yet elegant analogue charm. KiNK's "Don't Stop" gets techier with determined kicks, crunchy drum taps and an old school vocal edge. Lastly, Ethyl & Flori drop "Coney Island Boppers" and maintain the pure class to round off this release. Chanting vocals, smooth synths, crisp drum patterns; it's got it all. If the musical quality isn't enough to make you want this, here's an extra reason - House Is The Cure offers their digital releases with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to charities chosen by the artist! Juno Salute you House Is The Cure!

A Man Called Adam - "Que Tal America" (Mericana mix)
Chuggles - "Thank You"
Chez & Trent - "Don't Try It"
Chez & Trent - "The Meaning"
Review: The third in Prescription's From the Vaults series is perhaps the most crucial to date, delivering a clutch of veritable classics from the label's archives. Proceeding kick off with the timeless Latin house swing of the Mericana remix of A Man Called Adam's "Que Tal America" from all the way back in 96 - check that sax! Alongside it is Chuggles aka UK house don Ralph Lawson's collaborative effort with Chez Damier brings the searing Chicago emotion via the chord heavy bump of "Thankyou". Mr Damier owns the B Side too, in conjunction with fellow house icon Ron Trent with two of their finest works - "The Meaning" in particular is worthy of purchase alone.

Velvet Hammer - "Party Down" (Revenge Rework)
Velvet Hammer - "Party Down" (Revenge Rework)
Sargeant & Malone - "Love Message" (Revenge Reworked unreleased dub)
The Joneses - "Summer Groove" (Revenge Rework)
Review: Graeme Clark is best known for his edits - his reworks of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye (in The Revenge and 6th Borough Project mode respectively) linger long in the memory - and here he serves up the second round of tweaks that featured on his recent Reekin'structions long player for the Z imprint. Those seeking the trademark deft house touch will delight in Clark's slow build take on of Velvet Hammer's "Party Down" whilst there is added incentive in the shape of a previously unreleased dub version of the same track which is just as good, if not even better! On the flip the Glaswegian showcases his cutting skills with a bumping refix of Sargeant & Malone's "Love Message" and a take on The Joneses "Summer Groove" that works its way from the depths of the machine into a frenzy of drums and funked out guitar riffs with expertise.

Bindlestiff
Nkisi
Review: Spectator's WT imprint have in their relatively short life span specialised in introducing the house and techno world to some illuminating and relatively unknown talents, most notably Juno favourite Hunee. At the core of their latest release is another bright young hope in the shape of Detroit based producer Alex Israel who drops a quartet of productions that display an utterly captivating talent for Motor City Soul. The title track is perhaps the most immediately gratifying, unveiling a grasp of rasping percussion and warm, bassy undertones that lay the foundation for some utopian synth work. Alongside it "Gaz" is a more hurried affair with stripped down rhythms letting the liquid pulses take the lead, whilst the B Side opens in fine style with the drunken mutant disco funk of "Bindlestiff". This enlightening release finishes with aplomb via the glorious 90s house sounds that permeate the lower reaches of "Nikisi". There's a real delight as to how the catchy vocal hook dances in tandem with the rippling acid swing.

7am
Review: The seventh release on Leipzig based label Mikrodisko comes from hometown hero Kassem Mosse, with the Musical Generics 7". Mosse has close ties to the imprint, having released his debut record on Mikrodisko back in 2006 - indeed it was this label that first released the shimmering analogue beauty of "578", which was subsequently picked up and remixed by Detroit don Omar S on FXHE. Musical Generics marks his sixth appearance on the label, which has maintained an admirable focus on the deeper side of house and techno. The two tracks on offer, namely "7pm" and "7am", showcase two very different aspects to the German producer's arsenal, with the former touching on the deeply melodic end of techno, while the latter offers a tense, growling wigout in the manner of DJ Koze's epic "Mrs Bojangles". Essential.

Superstition (Daniel Kyo Total remake)
Thinking About Your Love (Koko Garito re-edit)
Review: The Scandinavian team behind the long running and hugely popular GAMM label present Basic Fingers, a newly minted offshoot dedicated to more house and disco based manoeuvres. It gets off to a fine start with two of the Spanish house mafia at the controls. Any DJ worth their salt has probably fielded a hundred plus requests for Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" and you might just find yourself actively playing Daniel Kyo's version. Proper basement vibes on this one, slowly building the tension before introducing the familiar vocal refrain. It's when the keys drop in and the emotive strings emerge that this version attains must play status. The flip sees Skipworth & Taylor's 80s jam "Thinking About Your Love" get looped, diced, delayed and dubbed by Koko Garito - more commonly known as the highly regarded Kiko Navarro. It's more of an edit than the reimagination on the A Side but brings the funk regardless.

Review: The brilliantly monikered Big Strick - familial elder to Omar S and responsible for the odd killer release on his younger cousin's FXHE imprint - belatedly sates the appetite of record collectors keen to indulge in his recent album Detroit Heat with a six track selection of the choicest cuts spread across this twelve inch. Seemingly drawing influence from a myriad of Motor City influences, Detroit Heat impressively flits between murky deep house, tracky techno and hypnotic jack-tracks. Like many of his contemporaries, Strick is a sucker for 'cement mixer' production - that distinctly Detroitian sound where every beat, groove or bassline sounds like the master tapes have been marinated in grit. That trademark sound, alongside a solid selection of floor-friendly grooves, makes Detroit Heat an excellent addition to the Motor City house canon. The rubbery spinal atmospherics of "Under Tone" and the Tony Coates vocally assisted jack of "Maybe 1 Day" are particular highlights!

Acid Mondays - "Fomo"
Sean Thomas - "Fantasizer"
DJ Ali - "Park Your Mind"
Garry Todd - "Dice Me Up"
Review: You know when a vinyl arrives with dizzying artwork, artist names like Acid Mondays and track titles like "Dice Me Up" that you've simply gotta give it a listen. And so it proves here, with the debut release on Illusion Recordings. First up Acid Mondays - aka Dan Ward - drops "Fomo", which effortlessly weaves beefy club drums, piston-pumping chords, cleverly arranged vocal snippets and a bulging bassline for house jam that winks knowingly towards the old school. This shares the A-Side with Sean Thomas's "Fantasizer", with the Philly producer locking in a groove that wallows in the deep end. DJ Ali and Garry Todd share the honours on the flip, with the former opting for a crisp tech house flex while the latter goes for an 80s e-funk tip, utilising a killer disco sample along the way. A nice debut for Illusion - more of the same please!

Review: Having finally unleashed that EP of dystopian techno brilliance from Steve More last month, Long Island Electrical Systems waste little time in following it up with something equally special! Willie Burns is the latest alias of Brooklyn's William Burnett, a producer with labels such as Supersoul and Disco Capablanca in his armoury. Across five tracks Burns delights in a disjointed approach to house rhythms perfectly typified by the opening swirls of glowering analogues that run through "Fantasy MD". Elsewhere raw piano stabs cascade brilliantly around your senses on "Key Horizon", a track which wouldn't seem out of place on Mathematics! On the flip the jerked out simmering electro heat of "Dr Monkey" is a highlight amongst three further examples of rough round the edges machine funk brilliance. Fans of the aforementioned label run by Jamal Moss or the esoteric sounds of Future Times should be all over this!

Fantasy Check
Diane's Love
Review: If Dutch duo Morning Factory served notice of their potential on releases for Yore and 20:20 Vision last year, their invitation to the Clone stable has seen them truly blossom! The duo follows a recent remix of Reggie Dokes with a full release on the Royal Oak offshoot that is the starkest demonstration to date of their innate ability to craft house music that sounds both contemporary and respectful of its forebearers. There's a multitude of ways to describe "Fantasy Check" though it's the swathes of piano flourishes that lend the track a winning sheen of loveliness. On the flip, "Diane's Love" implements a cheeky vocal sample - which you should be able to work out from the title - amidst a shuffling house groove that constantly twists inside out. We defy you not to be impressed by this!
