  1. Track 1 (8:00)
  2. Track 2 (6:21)
  3. Track 3 (5:21)
Review: Ever a tease with their releases, Italojohnson makes his first appearance in a year with this three tracker, as ever appearing on their own self-titled imprint. There is always a pleasing consistency to the Italojohnson sound, where neatly shaped drum machine pressure meets with playful synth tones to make for some forthright party-starting material. On this occasion, "Track 1" brings the light and airy vibes with swooning strings sitting comfortably over a steady house groove, while "Track 2" delves into a more edgy construction complete with nasty bass and distorted vocal snippets. "Track 3" edges into more electro-inspired territory with its cheeky synth lines and wobbly low end trickery, but it's no less built for the floor.

Review: Esteemed deep house producers Glen Astro and Max Graef have much in common musically, not least a shared love of crusty chords, fuzzy textures and dusty, soul-flecked samples. It's good to see the pair joining forces, not only in the studio, but also to launch the Money Sex label. This first collaborative EP (for both artists and label) is packed full of warm-but-distorted, immersive deep house, with a few curveballs thrown in for good measure. That's certainly how we'd describe the eccentric "Caribbean Screwdriver" (all loose, densely layered percussion, distant vocal samples and tactile electric pianos) and "Echoed Gehema", a tipsy chunk of enveloping deep house built around a shuffling but locked-in MPC style groove.

Review: East Berlin's Beste Modus clan return with the fifth instalment of the series and it's another whopper! Cinthie lays down "Ghetto Bastard", a head-strong and kick-fuelled jerker reminiscent of Dance Mania's early output and "Jaaam", a deeper house joint with a subtle garage swing. On the flip, "Cityscape" by Ed Herbst is a spaced-out deep house cake with plenty of delay and a psychedelic touch, whereas "When I'm In The Elevator is bumpier and more club-ready. Another tight little EP from this crew!

  1. Day One (8:02)
  2. Day One (Telephones club dub) (7:13)
Review: The notion of Jose Padilla releasing an album on International Feel makes perfect sense, the two go together like Bogart and Bacall. Last year the Cafe Del Mar legend appeared on Mark Barrott's label with Solito and this set the wheels in motion for an album by Padilla that remains under wraps for now. A taste of what is to come arrives in the shape of Day One, a 12" that sees Padilla working with Norwegian producer Telephones (a man who has his own LP due on Running Back) and it has set opener written indeliably into it's DNA. Few other tracks this week pack as much vivid detail and colour into them as the eight minutes of "Day One" do and Telephones achieves similar levels of magic on his accompanying Club Dub.

Review: It's a total joy every time the Workshop label releases a new EP. After all, they've only released the likes of Kassem Mosse, Lowtec and Even Tuell, among others, in their fine catalogue. This time, however, they've decided to spice things up and put out four tunes by lesser known but rising talents in the house-techno-electronic sphere. The mysterious Willow drops "Feel Me", a hazy, heads-down house joint; London's digi star Tapes comes through with a rather epic jam that is "Somebody's Baby" - Hard Wax themselves have branded it as 'special' - "Villager" by The Horn is a downtempo drum machine flex with moody pads, and meandyou's Herron drops the "Lost Track", a winding, chuggy dub-house cut that'll go down a storm in Manchester's Soop Kitchen! Another winner, quality guaranteed.

  1. Jealousy (house mix) (8:45)
  2. Jealousy (disco mix) (11:38)
Review: Roisin Murphy has a good track record when it comes to making slightly sleazy dance music, as her "Simulation" single on Permanent Vacation a few years back proved. Even so, it's still a surprise to see her popping up on Crosstown Rebels with "Jealousy", a track produced by regular sparring partner DJ Parrot (better known these days for his Crooked Man material). While most will naturally focus on the A-side House Mix - think fuzzy organs, sleazy, low-slung acid bass and a typically big vocal from the talented Murphy - it's the grandiose, 132 BPM Disco Mix on the flip that's the real deal. 12 minutes of rubbery bass, clipped, Nile Rodgers style guitars, loose drums and Murphy's brilliant vocal, it sounds like a disco classic in the making.

Review: Daze's 2014 debut for Lobster Theremin's occasional white label series was something of a measured success, with the mysterious Australian producer gleefully joining the dots between a myriad of old and new house, techno and hardcore influences. Here he pops up on the label proper, with another EP that tries hard to defy categorization. The title track is deep, woozy and dreamy, with reverb-laden techno handclaps and kicks underpinning picturesque chords and lucid textures. The acid-peppered "Death Whirl" is darker and more basement friendly, while closer "Compton" impressively melds immersive deep house chords and swift vocal stabs with house-tempo rave breakbeats.

Review: By his own prolific standards, veteran deep house/techno producer Ramon Lisandro Quezada - better known since 2005 as DJ Qu - has been rather quiet of late. Having released just one single in 2014, he returns in early 2015 with one of his strongest EPs for some time. Several bases are covered on the Redtones EP. Contrast, for example, the drifting, sci-fi chords and dense, deep house goes tribal rhythms of the title track, with the picturesque pianos and crackly samples of downtempo bonus "Sadness In The Static". Best of all, though, is "Sweaty", a formidably wonky fusion of psychedelic electronics, trippy effects and throbbing, grime encrusted house beats.

Review: If you indulged in Ryan Elliot's benchmark Panorama Bar mix (in terms of format at least) you will be familiar with about 30 seconds of "House Music", the A side to this latest Karvolak 12" from Swedish pair Mr. Tophat & Art Alfie. Which leaves around 14 minutes and 10 seconds left to acquaint yourselves with, in which time they engage "blow your socks" mode with a simple yet very effective DJ tool that slips and slides around the place, whilst setting off some bomb like disco samples. "The Glitch" is shorter at 11 minutes and finds the two getting busy with the delay.

Review: It's already been a strong year for Diego Krause, with releases on Apollonia and Made Fresh Daily picking up nicely where last year left off. This latest release finds Krause back on home turf with the third chapter in the Unison Wax story, providing an ideal platform for exploring all the different shades of groove the Berlin producer loves turning his hand to. "Track 1" marches forth with an uptempo house purpose that sports a perfect balance of deep melodic tones and punchy beats, while "Track 2" gets into a downtempo groove that would sound right at home on Mo Wax. "Track 3" slips back into the upbeat thrust of the dance without losing that wistful lilt in the keys, and then "Track 4" heads into sublime dubbed out house territory.

Review: Little seems to be known about Detroit native Marc King, whose introduction to most listeners came via Rick Wilhite's 2010 compilation, Vibes: New & Rare, on Rush Hour. King is something of a veteran, and had previously released 12" singles under a variety of pseudonyms during the mid to late 1990s. Here he pops up on Omar-S's FXHE imprint with a belated debut single under his given name. There's a classic house feel about opener "Equality", which boasts bold organs, synth strings and twinkling piano solos riding a vintage groove. There's a similar mid-to-late-90s feel to the deep, bass-heavy and intoxicating "Loquious", while "Water Of Life" sees King move further towards gnarled techno territory whilst retaining his trademark melodious warmth.

Review: Djebali has been on particularly prolific form of late, flying out records on his own imprint with gusto. This new Reda Dare project offers up four tracks that should appeal to existing Djebali fans, dealing as it does in smartly appointed European house music with a kink in the groove and plenty of soul. "Owl's Bass" is the kind of lean and mean jam to get every head in the room bobbing approvingly, while "Lux Eaterna" lets some dubby touches smooth out the bumping drums for a deeper kind of mood. "Dualizm" plies a techy trade in drum patterns, even if the hits themselves are softer to match the calm and spiritual synth tones, before House Of Warez brings an edgier electro thump to the track by way of a remix.

  3. Oh Momma (Rhythm&Soul Mood mix)
Review: We have the pleasure to include in our catalogue a grooveless track by the outstanding house head, Da Sunlounge. One of the most prolific UK's House artist of the last 15 years having release music in labels like Detour, 2020Vision, Tango or Double Down.

Oh Momma was originally released on GoodFamilly records almost 10 years ago. We have been playing it for years now so we decided to release again this catchy house track including some fresh remixes.

The original track has been remastered and refreshed by Da Sunlounge for this release. A groovy track with catchy vocals and jazzy piano samples that drives you back to the early 2000's House sound.

On the B side The Groove Brothers (Jef K and Rhythm&Soul) and Rhythm&Soul made two reworks. The first one takes the original track into an hypnotic side with a huge basse line. B1, keeps the jazzy side with another piano sample and a strong groove. Both reworking the original cut by keeping the groovy and moody sound of Da Sunlounge's track.

Review: only 200 copies pressed. With a career spanning over twenty-five years and releases across Strictly Rhythm, Kingstreet Records and Real Tone to name a few, Tommy Bones' new 'Black Concept' EP brings two tracks that give a modern edge to the classic soulful house sound. 'Black Concept' has a soothing, almost serene sound with the use of jazz influenced instrumental sample but also a beat that allows it to remain predominantly house track. Review: A Day In The Life, last year's album on Mule Musiq from Peter 'Lawrence' Kersten may well have seen the Hamburg producer indulge his interest in ambient sounds fully, but he's back to the distinctly European flavour of deep house he's renowned for here. Issued through his own Smallville label, Manhattan presents three Lawrence productions that all feel quite understated but will invariably weave their way into your affections the more you play around with them in sets. The closing number "Dark & Stormy" is the most immediate, thanks to that three bar loop and crisp, focused drums whilst "Nowhere Is A Place" seems to be the perfect set opener. Classy as usual from Lawrence.

They stay faithful to the vibes of the first two.
On the A side, two tracks of Ka One & St-Sene:
A1. "Disorder Tones" goes in the raw and the dark side of the deepness, it's a melt between beautiful pads, aggressive chords and strong beat.

B1. "Abstrakt 9" is the first techno track of the "Cycles" series.
The track evolves in a dark atmosphere with a powerful beat, a lead with industrial and space sounds and an aggressive and hypnotic acid line.
The second part of the track evolves in a deep atmosphere with a beautiful pad.

That's certainly what he delivers on Simple Pleasures, the latest 12" for his 7 Days Entertainment imprint, and his first outing of 2015. There's a lovely warmth and sun-kissed fluidity to bongo-laden opener "Ghetto Man", whose enduring appeal is partly based on the delicious melodiousness of Strick's hazy electronic pianos. "Don't Wait Up" successfully riffs on a similar theme, before "48 Hours" displays the veteran Detroiter's skills with dense percussion and ocean-deep chords. Best of all, though, is the dreamy beatdown of "Illuminated", whose thicket drum machine beats and glassy-eyed pads are particularly memorable.

This double pack release celebrates what has been achieved in two years of operations with a diverse selection that ranges from the dubby tones of Kicks' "Pipeline" to the even dubbier tones of Ortella's "Heartbeat", and then on to the bassy simmer of John Jastszebski's "Downtown" or the garage bump and calming tones of MArotti's "Pressure". Here he debuts a new solo alias, Goshawk. Naturally, From The Woods is impeccably produced, and features a trio of delicious deep house gems. The wonderfully named Rarely Pure, Never Simple adds to Wolf Music's growing artist album profile following long players from main men Medlar and Greymatter and further develops the all encompassing production style Wentink has displayed so eloquently for Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings and others.
