African Man (Ricardo Vilalobos & Max Loderbauer remix) (12:12)
Go Back (feat Damon Albarn - Fort Romeau Absolut remix) (5:50)
Review: Tony Allen's most recent long player, Film Of Life, is revisited here with both Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer, and rising house producer Fort Romeau tasked with remixing the Nigerian drummer's work. Vilod, as they are preferring to be called these days, sit up top with a typically long form take on "African Man" which reconstitutes the blaring horn funk of Allen's original piece into a subtle 12 minute reduction of electronic house music. On the flip Ghostly artist Fort Romeau reimagines the Damon Albarn featuring "Go Back" as whispy, deep house with some charming analogue synth flourishes.

Kime Ne (23:54)
Kime Ne (Ricardo Villalobos version 1) (16:34)
Kime Ne (Ricardo Villalobos version 2) (16:04)
Review: Using the Turkish psychedelic project Insanlar as a jump off point, Honest Jon's have enlisted Ricardo Villalobos to turn out one of his grandiose remix projects that gels so naturally with more exotic sound sources. The original of "Kime Ne" is already an enchanting, Moog-infused groover rich with traditional vocals, and then Mr Villalobos locks the ingredients in for a typically cosmic ride into stripped and hypnotic house territory, letting the lutes intertwine with dusty reams of percussion using that alchemists touch that could only come the man himself. The remix spreads itself over two sides of wax, leaving one side of the double pack free for a fetching etching as well.

Superlate Check In (11:59)
Verniana (7:29)
Minem Monem (7:32)
Review: Barac Nicolae aka Barac hails from Bucharest in Romania and makes utterly effective minimal tech-house for the dancefloor. His latest EP comes courtesy of Pressure Traxx and we can safely say that these are certified head nodders, the lot of them! "Superlate Check In" is stomping, headstrong and full of hypnotic charisma on the A-side, but "Vermiana" is more stepping, broken in its structure and boasting an eerie collection of sounds. Last but not least, "Minem Monem" contains a well-placed break in its beat and makes for the EP's best and most original moment. Tip!

36th New St (7:31)
Track 4 (Locked Groove) (1:00)
Review: A byword for quality house fare, the Djebali label has proved liberating for Paris fixture Medhi Djebali and popular with vinyl selectors. After handing Hold Youth the keys to his monstrous track "Only Time Will Tell" for the most recent Reworks 12", Djebali is back on the original productions flex here with a 12" that pairs up two classy cuts with two locked grooves. You know what the latter do so let's focus on the full productions from Djebali with "This Thing For Wil" a fluttering groove that will ease into any DJ set whilst the flip "36th New St" sees the Parisian opt for a classic New York garage flavour.

Seraphim (Frank & Tony Breakaway remix) (5:55)
Worship (feat Qzen - Dana Ruh remix) (7:17)
Feel Free (Dorisburg remix) (6:45)
Worship (feat Qzen - Alan Doe remix) (6:34)
Review: Following the release of their debut LP, 'Keep Up Appearances' on their new label Modelmaker, Dan Berkson and James What draft in Frank & Tony, Dana Ruh, Dorisburg and Alan Doe for remixes.
Berkson & What have chalked up many releases on Poker Flat and Crosstown Rebels over the years whilst most recently turning heads outside of their own Modelmaker imprint via singles for Dogmatik and Seth Troxler's Play it Say It. The duo's LP, released in January, marked a new chapter in their production history and has seen support from Josh Wink, Mr G and Skream over the past few months.
'Keep Up Appearances - Remixes' opens with Anthony Collins and Francis Harris' superb Frank & Tony alias taking on 'Seraphim' which results in a tense but understated piece of layered, classic sounding house music while Dana Ruh, fresh from her excellent debut LP on Underground Quality last year, drops an eerie recreation of 'Worship' that draws on spacey synths and unsettling ambience.
Dorisburg, known for outstanding material on Sweden's Aniara amongst others, continues a sterling run of form with a rendition of 'Feel Free' which employs soaring chords to fashion a luscious and elevating take on the original. Rounding off the package is Berlin producer Alan Doe, an artist who debuted on Rue De Plaisance in 2014. Doe's 'Worship' remix is squarely dancefloor-aimed with punchy kicks, smokey effects and teasing keys.

Northern Lights (11:02)
Drawn From The Side Of Crime (12:49)
Review: It's been a while since we heard from the Cobblestone Jazz boys and given their massive influence over contemporary house and techno, it's always a pleasure to listen to their truly singular take on dance music. The Matthew Jonson-led outfit return with an EP for the Itiswhatitis label, the original birthplace of Jonson's beats. "Northern Lights" is classic Cobblestone, where an ultra compressed kick meanders amidst calculated drips of sound pouring mathematically from every angle. "Drawn From The Side Of Crime" is a little more chirpy, its sounds bleeping away with greater intensity and freedom. It's a must have for fans of the group, recommended!

Review: Given the reception to 2012 Innervisions hit "Howling", it's no surprise the label's co-founder Frank 'Ame' Wiedemann has been persuaded to further explore his creative relationship with singer Ry X. Now operating as Howling, Sacred Ground arrives through Monkeytown and Counter Records and sees the Australian singer and Wiedemann expand on the template set by that Innervisions hit over 12 tracks. Think a subtle and alluring blend of strings, organs, synths, field recordings, and of course Ry X's voice - no sign of their Nirvana cover though sadly. Expect to hear this a lot over the coming months.

Acid Sunday (7:50)
Rhythmico (6:49)
Justa (10:24)
Review: Romanian label Metereze may not be as prolific as some of its peers but you can't argue with the quality of music they've issued since first surfacing roughly two years ago. A fourth release introduces a new face in Melodie who's Echo Rhythm EP veers away from Metereze's previous house focus into more techno flavoured territory and it's a good look. As you might expect from the title, "Acid Sunday" is rife with lysergic tweakery, and it's augmented by an overall deep feel which seeps into the next cut "Rhythmico" which gives off the sensation of steam rising superbly. B side hogger "Justa" is a melodic techno number in a similar vein to Gui Boratto.

Spider Feel
Review: Last year's Ballad of the Ice LP for I'm A Cliche seemed to open quite a few doors for Tel Aviv pair Dori Sadovnik & Niv Arzi with Red Axes appearances on Kompakt, Highlife, and Relish. The commencement of a new Shem series of records brings the Red Axes back to Cosmo Vitelli's label with a remit being tracks geared towards the dancefloor but always retaining the one-of-a-kind approach that it distils in all its productions. The four tracks on Volume 1 set the tone nicely, be it the Delia Derbyshire does cavernous acid house vibes of "Na Da" or the spectral "Balma" which features the Portuguese crooner Abrao. Best of all however is the effervescent jack track "Nu" which really exemplifies the talent of Red Axes to make club-ready tracks out of organic elements.

The Jungle (Frask) (10:54)
Review: Hold Youth man Seuil maintains his fairly regular appearance rate on his own Eklo with the Chocolate Gangster EP, arriving soon after he shared sides with Rene Audiard on a 12" for the label. The two A-side cuts find the Frenchman paying homage to the micro house sound that dominated the previous decade, so both "Capote" and "Do The Left Thing (Tribute to TM)" revolve around fluid basslines, swinging 909 rhythms, hypnotic chords and odd samples. Of the two it's "Do the Left Thing" that really hits the spot, whilst B-side track "The Jungle (Frask)" finds Seuil veering off into trippier territory.

Lazy Boy (6:20)
Review: Ivan Smagghe's Les Disques De La Mort label has thrown up plenty of excellent music for the jobbing selectors in the 12 months since it launched, with all manner of classy talent contributing either original material or remixes. This latest platter introduces a new project from Paranoid London vocalist Mutado Pintado called Sworn Virgins and the two original tracks are augmented by some excellent remixes. Opening cut "Michelle (Dub)" fizzes brilliantly with unpredictable synthetic energy and is the sort of track you unleash deep into the night to send a crowd down the wormhole, whilst "Lazy Boy" is the best Hieroglyphic Being remix Liasions Dangereuses you've never heard. The accompanying remix from Fabrizio Mammarella reigns in some of the madness for a more focused club cut, whilst the superb Acid Arab do their thing to "Michelle", completely rewiring the track's DNA. A superb 12"!

Signs (Rodhad remix) (7:53)
Signs (Kalabrese remix) (8:35)
Signs (Radioslave & Thomas Gandey/Last Communication remix) (11:12)
Review: The collaborative project from Ry X and Frank Wiedemann has already a splash in its original form, and now this set of remixes brought to you jointly by Monkeytown and Counter has its sights on the floor. Rodhad has been taking the techno scene by storm recently, and he brings a delicate touch to "Signs" that comes on like a pagan mantra as much as a contemporary dance track. Kalabrese meanwhile drops a delicate and shimmering slice of laconic, jazzy acid mixed in that unusual manner which he has always brought to his own productions, and then Radioslave and Thomas Gandley activate their Last Communication for an equally melancholic piano-led revision.

Review: Moscow label BodyParts Records has become a byword for quality minimal fare since its emergence a few years back and this latest offering is their most comprehensive yet. V3 pairs up six producers across two slabs of vinyl and will probably become one of those double packs that doesn't leave your box. The future tribalism of Nu Zau's "Noise" stands out here, as does the bristling abstract grooves of Anrilov & Bvoice collaboration "Budet". The chiming beauty and simple beats of "Rose Bleue" by Clovis might just be our favourite contribution here however.

Review: You could say Robag Wruhme has been around the block a few times, thanks to a storied career that's seen him release music with Sonar Kollektiv, Circus Company and the many extensions of the Kompakt family. This latest release for Pampa is his second appearance on DJ Koze's label and he delivers a varied EP of sounds, ranging from the sewer techno of "Cybekks" to the crackly, John Beltran-like ambience of "Anton I". "Volta Cobby" is a sizzling cut for the summer festival stage (good timing Pampa) while "Anton II" is another ambient session, this time a little more animated thanks to chimes similar to what's heard in Pantha Du Prince's music. A record for the festival or the chilled out lounge room.

Review: Lazy Hartz Club member Evan Baggs delivers a sultry three-tracker on behalf of the Tokyo-based party crew Cabaret Recordings, and it's quality deep house vibes from start to finish. "Not A Story" flexes its muscle to and fro with a whooshing bassline and intricate atmospheric patters, while on the flip, "Blossom" takes a more jacking approach to work around the growling low-end beneath, and "Ziegensicher" rattles its percussion with a distinct freneticism to complete a solid, pulsating thirty minutes of sound.

Review: Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier, two kingpins of the contemporary French house scene, team up for a collaborative EP on their native Adult Only label, specializing in deep, funky beats since the late 1990's. The duo serve up title track "Just A Sin" as an appetizer, a seriously pounding and head-first house banger tailor-made for the club, followed the main dish "The 2nd Degree", a deeper, more subtle DJ tool boasting a mean percussive edge. The dessert comes in the form of a remix of "Just A Sin", whipped up by Diego Krause in what the Germans would describe as being "effectively waxed". Powerful tools for the powerful deejay.

Review: After the adventures in Meditations from Thomas Melchior, Perlon's latest release of an impressive 2015 so far finds the label turn to a lesser known artist in Bihn. The production alias of Berlin based Germann Nguyen, BIHN emerged last year with a pair of low key 12"s as well as working with Onur Ozer as Treatment. What Nguyen lacks in profile he makes up for in punchy Perlon-worthy productions skills on the basis of his two tracks here with opener "Visio" a quite haunting cut where stripped back drum programming allows a neat bassline and detailed synth work to shine. Complementing this, it feels like "Ruski" is Nguyen letting his more urgent desires reign free and is likely to become a B side many selectors cherish.
